  • Grey Gardens was the unlikely setting for a true-life "riches-to-rags" story, featuring members of first lady Jackie Kennedy's family. Now the restored property is up for sale.

      Same, maybe we will be the current owners' guests some day! Who knows, life can be a box of surprises.. :) And I really hope that who ever bought the house has kept that beautiful, modern portrait of the Beales on the wall, because they were a huge part of that house's History, if not the biggest chunk of it thus far. I would always keep their portrait hung on the wall like that if I bought it, so as to honor them and the fact that they never allowed for the house to be tore down.

      @@selmahare_The new owner Liz Lange, I think hang a painting of 12 y/o Little Edie in the foyer w/a blue animal print wallpaper dedicated to the 2 Edies... there's also in the 2nd floor landing area: a paper mache bust of Edie Jr.

    Beautiful house, lots of character & history. The Beales seemed like lovely ladies. May they Rest In Peace.

    I know from interviews they got rid of the cat smell by ripping up the floors and tearing down the walls, and then installing new everything. I'd still be concerned about what's festering in the studs and support beams. I can't even imaging there isn't some gross hold over lurking somewhere within. And once animals inhabit a place, generations later, their offspring seem to want to try to get back in. I would not be able to feel clean in that house....ever.

    Poor Edie... her life was stolen ( as mine was) ; forced to go nuts in someone else’s horrors.
    I don’t know when She died, but I think of her often.😢♥️

      She didn’t feel that her life was stolen at the end of her life. She finally got to live the way she wanted from age 60 til her death. She even stopped resenting her mother after her mother died. She was free after Grey Gardens and she enjoyed her final season in life.
      I pray that you still don’t feel like your life was taken from you.

      I don't think Big Edie had any other choice other than bringing Little Edie home. LE was 35, had never had a real job, and depended upon her mother for financial support. BE was obviously out of money and couldn't continue to pay for LE's life in NYC. She could barely afford to feed herself. LE said she was about to be discovered, but in actuality she was just given an opportunity to audition for something. Back in the early 1950s, starlets were young--early 20s. Not 35. LE finally got to be a star because she lived at GG. She resented it, but it's what gave her the fame she wanted.

    How much did little Edie get for this house?

    • @wazzup233
      @wazzup233 Год назад +2

      From what something I've read in w/c Little Edie advertised it asking for $500,000 cash: The Grey Gardens Estate had 2 acres, 26 rooms...compact that a person can live comfortably alone. Sally Quinn bought it almost half the price only because the house was not in good condition & I guess she just gave Edie Jr. the land value of it at that time.
