    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    Dante (Brian O'Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson) discuss the ethics of the destruction of the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi where independent contractors must have lost their lives.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    When Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran) is reluctantly put in charge of the Quick Stop market on his day off, he tries, though half-heartedly, to perform his minimum-wage duties as efficiently as possible. This gets tough amidst the on-going fight with his girlfriend, Veronica (Marilyn Ghigliotti), and his attempt to get back together with his ex-girlfriend, Caitlyn Bree (Lisa Spoonhauer). Meanwhile, his friend and alter ego Randall (Jeff Anderson) is working behind the counter of the adjacent video store -- at least when he feels like it. Randall's unabashed disdain of his place of employment, a long with his self-admitted hatred towards its customers is a sharp contrast to Dante's feeble attempts at the niceties of customer service. Much of the film consists of Randall and Dante's criticism of their customers, their lives, and the world in general. Clerks, filmed in black-and-white on a budget of only $27,000, began the career of writer director Kevin Smith, who would go on to make Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001).
    CREDITS:

    Cast: Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Jason Mewes, Thomas Burke
    Director: Kevin Smith

      No it doesn't. It was literally a superweapon that destroys planets. Even if every single person involved in constructing it had no idea what they were working on and was completely innocent, the loss of innocent life involved was completely dwarfed by the lives saved by its destruction. Also knowing the empire, the workers involved likely would have been executed at the end of the building process anyway.

    From what I've read in the old canon, the first Death Star was constructed by enslaved Wookies. Whether that still holds true in today's canon remains unclear, but it seems likely that the Empire would use slave labor Wookies or otherwise to construct both Death Stars. Then the argument gets turned into how many slaves were killed when the second Death Star exploded?

      Can you be brain washed if you started your indoctrination as a kid? Brain washing in its original sense meant to change someone from the way they already were. Ie an adult that say likes Star Wars is changed into hating it. A kid by default cannot be brain washed since his opinions about the world have not yet been formed. A better term is indoctrinated into something. Brain washing can only maybe exist for adults but a kid a person with no clear views about right and wrong cannot be. They can only be indoctrinated into an idea. Otherwise you end up with highly subjective criteria about what is right and wrong. Depending on viewpoints telling a kid there is/isn't a God can count as brain washing. Kids by default cannot be changed from what they were since their views about the world don't yet exist. They can only be introduced and familiarised with certain ideas as being normal.

    The Empire has thousands of planets under their control, most of them presumably having populations into the millions and billions. It would not be a stretch to say that the Empire had at least a hundred million or even a billion people under its direct employ so there would be no shortage of available workers. Granted the original trilogy doesn't really go into that much detail so they couldn't have known in 1994.

Enjoy the time when Solo shot first and his character's entire backstory isn't reduced to a single weekend. Oh you have no idea the level of stupid that lies ahead. 1994, when a slow boring chase was just OJ Simpson fleeing the police and not an entire movie in the saga. When The Force was a mystical power that seemed anyone could learn and not just a biological parasite handed down the family line. Back when the villains actually died when flung down huge heights. A good portion of the workers were slaves and probably didn't have any way off when things got bad. Independent contractors probably brought their own ships and equipment, but even so evacuation was on them. The Empire really didn't prioritize the workers' safety. • @phyarth8082

    "Organisation Todt" in Germany implemented Work for food practice in occupied territories , Normandy Atlantic Wall prototype of "Death Star" been built by "volunteers", theoretically, that all food been taken from occupied territories and been given to war effort many occupied territory citizens volunteer to built railroads and fortifications and work in factories and receive food rations dedicated for war efforts, it can be applied to Empire why workers been a forcefully pressured to work on Death Star. In sense they are innocents victims. In ex-soviet union is very small possibility that contractor who works for gangster house be fairly paid, militia and justice system been more corrupt than gangsters itself, maybe in USA gangsters have "thief codex" not everywhere.

    • @BugVlogs
      @BugVlogs 3 года назад +4

      Well, technically, the Rebels were fighting against a fascist regime

    • @TBustah
      @TBustah 3 года назад +3

      Ryan Grille Fascism does not neatly fall into the left or right. Even its own adherents tend to call it the “third option”. Fascists might be nationalistic (which is not a bad thing in and of itself), but their economic policies are anything but right wing.
