  • Heyo, here's my performance of "Santa Fe" - song #18 - from the RENT (School Edition) book. It is the same as the regular musical book. The video quality isn't great since it was streamed, but I've added the original bass score in the bottom, and for the first time figured out how to edit a moving cursor to follow the music!

I actually only digitized the existing notes, but changed the meter to 12/8 and improved the formatting etc. so it is much easier to sightread. My version is different (& better IMO) than the original chart scrolling in the video above.
It was cool to perform RENT last year right in the neighborhood it was set in. The themes of RENT are pretty applicable to the times we are living in today: "how we gonna pay this year's rent?"; an ominous, underlying plague sweeping NYC / the planet; art flourishing despite it all & without reason; "Wine & beer"; "How about love?", and that a lot can change in 525,600 minutes.
Here are details on that lovely production of "RENT" from last year:
    Kidz Theater presents:
    RENT (School Edition) • July 19-28, 2019
at The Connelly Theater, East Village, NYC
Michael Liepper - MD & Keys
Talia Rubenstein - Guitars 1, Percussion
    Jeremy Pletter - Guitars 2, Keys 2
    me - Bass Guitar
    Chris McWilliams - Drum Set
    LYRICS:
    New York City, uh huh
Center of the universe, sing it girl
    Times are shitty
But I'm pretty sure they can't get worse, I hear that
    It's a comfort to know
When you're singing the hit the road blues
That anywhere else you could possibly go
After New York would be, a pleasure cruise
    Now you're talking
Well, I'm thwarted by a metaphysic puzzle
And I'm sick of grading papers that are low
And I'm shouting in my sleep, I need a muzzle
And all this misery pays no salary, so
Let's open up a restaurant in Santa Fe
Oh, sunny Santa Fe would be nice
We'll open up a restaurant in Santa Fe
And leave this to the roaches and mice
    Oh oh oh
You teach? Yeah, I teach, computer age philosophy
But my students would rather watch TV, America, America
    You're a sensitive aesthete
Brush the sauce onto the meat
You can make the menu sparkle with rhyme
You can drum a gentle drum
I could seat guests as they come
Chatting not about Heidegger but wine
Let's open up a restaurant in Santa Fe
Our labors would reap financial gains
We'll open up a restaurant in Santa Fe
And save from devastation our brains
We'll pack up all our junk and fly so far away
Devote ourselves to projects that sell
We'll open up a restaurant in Santa Fe
    Forget this cold Bohemian Hell
    Oh oh oh
Do you know the way to Santa Fe?
You know, Tumbleweeds, prairie dogs, yeah
