Folks everything you see in the video is 100% real. The high speed trains are a pleasure to travel around China on. The trains and the stations are modern, clean and comfortable. And SAFE.
I have been to China too and yes I was amazed by the train infrastructure , the speed of the construction of the total train network blew me away. I have to say the 350km/hour does not feel like you are travelling at that speed. The Shanghai city down town at night is amazing too, the Maglev train is the future for trains. Japan and China are building some more to make connections between some cities faster. The full day of travel does take it out of you , yes its hot & sticky for a westerner especially when you are on the underground, I do love Shanghai but I often wonder whats going to happen when sea levels rise. Excellent video brought back some happy memories of China.
With train, you’d cut the taxi ride between airport and city. This type of infrastructure allows economic growth. High speed rail is all electric with no carbon emission, which is another key constraint to economic growth.
Hong Kong is also a city in China that attracted a lot of tourists in the past, but there have been too many violent protests in Hong Kong recently. Tourists are not recommended to stay in Hong Kong. I personally recommend transiting through Hong Kong to Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Guangzhou (cities in Guangdong province). There is a high-speed railway. Tourists can travel from Hong Kong International Airport to Kowloon Station by Airport Express (this is a fast train but not the high-speed railway the media refers to), and then walk along a covered footbridge with good signage to the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, which is the high-speed railway station. There are always sufficient seats on high-speed railway trains, so there is no need to reserve in advance. I recommend travelling by High Speed Rail to Futian Station which is in the CBD of Shenzhen.

@@MrDavidcanet Sorry to hear that. I have been married to my Beijing wife for 18yrs now and we are as happy as we have ever been. We live in Sydney enjoying our retirement.
@@MrDavidcanet The upper part of the wing of the aircraft is a flat surface and the lower part is a curved surface. When the aircraft is taxiing on the runway, the air will be cut, and the air velocity above the wing will be greater than the air velocity below. According to the Bernoulli effect, the higher the flow velocity, the lower the pressure. The pressure under the wing of the aircraft is stronger than the upper one. When the pressure difference is large enough, it can take off. The same is true for trains. Two trains run at high speed, and the airflow in the middle is fast so the pressure becomes smaller, so the train will tilt to the side, which is the suction you feel. But don’t worry, if the train is heavy enough, the two trains will soon separate. The most important thing is that billions of Chinese people take the high-speed rail safely every year. This is the most authoritative security guarantee. This is my sentence using translation software. I hope you can understand and resolve your doubts. Finally, welcome to China and wish you a happy life
I loved my trip in China, we took a bullet train from Shanghai to Guangzhou and it was incredible, super fast and efficient. The one downside of my trip in china was sadly the air quality was really bad and I have asthma so I had to keep my inhaler on me a lot and had quite a few breathing issues. AQI on average was around 150-200 Normal levels are between 20-50 and the worst was close to 500. If they can truly fix their air quality problem I would love to go back because it was a beautiful country with amazing sites.
Hi Danlil, I was impressed that motor bike and moped users were (forced?) to convert to electric vehicles. I couldn't imagine what Beijing and Shanghai were like years ago when the roads were choked with petrol engines.
@@PlanesTrainsEverything I'll tell you. Changsha, Hunan province, November 1998. Very hazy and you could smell the pollution. Blow your nose after being outside for a while, and your snot would come out black. Fast forward 20 years and the pollution, while by no means perfect, seems a lot better. At least in the summer time, it is not a major issue in my experience.
This is the price of developing industry. I guess you came to China between 2000-2015. 320 of China's 365 days in 2022 will be no different from European weather.
I took this train first from Shanghai to Nanjing and explored that interesting city for a couple of days. Then I did the rest of the way to Beijing. I really enjoy doing train trips in both the US and overseas. It's like flying but since you can get up and walk around easier, I like it better.
As travel writer Paul Theroux once said, unlike flying where you are strapped to your seat, on a train, if you don't like the look of the person next to you, you can stand up and go somewhere else.
Recently started watching your videos of China/ Vietnam as we are planning a visit there later this year. Just wanted to thank you for your work, we are loving the videos. Very informative and entertaining. I will be working my way through them over the next few days. Thanks once again, Ken (Inverness).
I took the BJ-SZ train back in 2006 and that took 24 hours (and that was the fast train as the regular one was 32 hours!!). Soon afterwards, China started to build its High Speed Rail (HSR) trains and like you I was able to get to HK on the HSR in under 9 hours a few years later. An amazing experience I must say!
Blimey that train between Beijing and Shanghai was amazing. Bit different to one I rode from Shanghai to Beijing around 1995. Overnight train, doubt it went more than 60mph. First class sleeper compartment felt like it was right out of the 1950's. Lace curtains and little metal fans whirring all night. You don't want to know about the lavatories. Passed several freight trains being hauled by large steam engines. Also passed several farms in the early morning hours where farmers were using water buffalos to work the fields and rice paddies. I didn't see one mechanical tractor. Arriving in Beijing, the plaza outside the station was a sea of several hundred people, including families with children, all camped out on the plaza. They were all migrant workers from rural areas of China coming to seek employment and were often stuck in the plaza for days, weeks on end. I admired their resolve to find a better life. Amazing what they have achieved in the construction of high speed railways all over the country in such a short time.
In 1993 the average railway speed for passanger train is only 30mph in China. Later in 1997, after the first national wide railway speed up program, the fastest train between Beijjng and Shanghai have max 140kph speed and average 90kph speed(at least according to the program's goal),so in 1995 the fastest train between Beijing and shanghai is much slower 60mph
I was their in Shanghai for 4 years, it's a beautiful place. People are amazing, and china is one of the most beautiful country. Completely opposite to what the western media or even my indian media shows.
I found China an absolutely amazing country, the food was fantastic, and the people so friendly. As you say, the media focus so much on politics, which tarnishes people's views of the real China.
Great train video, I was on the Maglev a few times back in 2006, Pudong to Longyang, incedible city and country. Footnote, China used more concrete between 2011 and 2013 than the USA used in 20th century, China used 6.6B Yards and USA used 4.4B Yards.
It is conveniant that city subways go right into the station at both ends. When it first opened the general feeling was that the non-smoking reg would not be observed but it is.
Nice video. I have been in China many times. Both business and holiday. Last time that I was in China, I messed up my ticket for the train from Beijing to Shanghai. I took the train that only did 310 km/ hour. My mistake. Shanghai is an amazing place. I haven't been up on the really tall new building..... Next year :-) Even took a train from Beijing to Urumqi and returned to Shanghai a few years ago. Have a look where Urumqi is. Keep up the good work. :-)

@wikct2: If Trump would exonerate Lyndon LaRouche and then cooperate and collaborate with China, Russia and India to replace this global, collapsed in 2008 financial system, with a New Bretton Woods agreement, all countries on the planet could use the Belt and Road Initiative to develop the world and start our journey into the galaxy and beyond. After all man's future is in the stars. Welcome friends from all over the world to travel to China 。An invitation from a Chinese middle school student.
The full day of travel does take it out of you , yes its hot & sticky for a westerner especially when you are on the underground,
I do love Shanghai but I often wonder whats going to happen when sea levels rise.
Excellent video brought back some happy memories of China.
pasted my hometown, just came back from Chan last month, love the high speed train in China
love my motherland !
Thanks Duncan. It's an amazing place.
With train, you’d cut the taxi ride between airport and city. This type of infrastructure allows economic growth. High speed rail is all electric with no carbon emission, which is another key constraint to economic growth.
IMPRESSIVE
HK citizens are scared of protestors by demanding money. democracy my ass.
I wonder what will happen to Hong Kong after 2047 when the “one country, two systems” policy officially comes to an end. I can't see China tolerating the freedom of speech currently permitted.

I took that route in 2009, before it was fully high-speed the whole route. Took an overnight trip in a bunkbed room. It's amazing how much they've reduced the travel time.
Very nice video. Done this trip a couple of times but I have the golden gift, a Chinese wife born in Shanghai now an Ozzie. With some one who was born in Shanghai, has the accent and goes out of her way to favor me. God must love me yet I don't deserve it. I've been to the tallest buildings, the best restaurants & the honor of meeting the most influential people in Shanghai a great privilege..
Shanghai is definitely on my 'do again' list. I loved the place, and I only scratched the surface.

I took this train first from Shanghai to Nanjing and explored that interesting city for a couple of days. Then I did the rest of the way to Beijing. I really enjoy doing train trips in both the US and overseas. It's like flying but since you can get up and walk around easier, I like it better.
As travel writer Paul Theroux once said, unlike flying where you are strapped to your seat, on a train, if you don't like the look of the person next to you, you can stand up and go somewhere else.

this is the most updated version of the train models
I took it from Guangzhou to Beijing! 10 hours for under $100USD! It was amazing!
That view from the hotel is breathtaking
350kph or 217mph!!! Woah! That’s awesome
It was pretty impressive, especially when you pass a train in the opposite directing - combined speed of over 400mph.
Even the Germans can't race that fast.
Yeah! I have taken this HS rail from Shanghai to Beijing and return twice. Awesomely stable and fast💖
It is conveniant that city subways go right into the station at both ends. When it first opened the general feeling was that the non-smoking reg would not be observed but it is.
I like the vidoes. Great choice of music. The music and visuals make me feel relaxed and want to go places.

Reading some of those not so friendly comments, I really miss the "global village" time in the 80s and 90s. People were much kinder and friendlier to the international travelers back then. The atmosphere around the world has become so political nowadays, even a simple travel vlog expressing appreciation for the marvelous bullet trains would turn into a battleground for these political comments... :(
Hi Elaine and thanks for your comment. There have certainly been some divided opinions on that video about China and what they have achieved regarding high-speed trains.
