This made me cry. I’m a 1/4 Aleut and have been trying to research my families history and culture. So many dead ends and unknowns

My grandmother was in one of those camps. Sophia Dirks, I really want to learn more about my Aleut heritage, I NEED to make it up to Atka, I NEED to take my children up there and learn our culture 🖤🖤🖤

Good luck to you! I've learned first-hand that the antidote to getting sad about our history is to get involved in our culture.

I’m half Aleut (father’s side) and this made me cry. I don’t know my history because he died when I was a kid and my family doesn’t speak of what happened to my grandmother and the losses my family suffered through. I longed so much to learn my history and it’s videos like this that help.

I just wish culture classes like theirs would be made available to the descendants that don't live on the Aleutians.

I wish we had these programs available in Pilot Point when I was a kid I would've loved to learn

Thank you for sharing. This history is so important for our younger generation to understand what our elders endured on our behalf.

When the Russians went back to Russia their Aleut families happily went too. The Aleuts are still in Russia and remember Aleut languages, stories and dances and families. i believe there more Aleuts in Russia now than are in Alaska. They are still the same.
