I got my Speedmaster Moonwatch three months ago with the sapphire crystal front and exhibition back and I just couldn't stop staring at the movement when the chronograph was ticking. Absolutely an engineering masterpiece. Now I wear the Speedy everytime when I go out for my daily strolling, both to keep time and to just give myself a reason to press all those lovely buttons of the 3861 movement :)
I could have written this. In March I got the sapphire sandwich and love it. Wearing it daily
Did you get this after the Swatch Moonswatch hype?
No. Got the OG before I ever heard of moonswatch. Too bad that was a fiasco. I waited in line like so many others but walked away empty handed. Still a neat memory tho
@@DWCBOB I bought my Speedmaster Sapphire in 2020. It was a massive mistake not because its a bad watch or anything. I got it a few months before the new release and didn't know I could get a discount on it. When I was paying, I got an automatic 5% discount so I was happy but later heard other people got 10~15% off after a little haggle. This wasn't even an AD. It was a boutique. Still like the watch tho.
It is a glorious movement for the price. Congratulations!
I had one but let it go for a jewellery set for my other half. Happy wife happy life!
Saving up for a 3861 moonwatch as my first luxury watch. Hoping to have it by sometime next year.
I bought my 3861 for my 50th birthday and the level of respect and admiration that I get from Omega every time I come in is so refreshing. I love Omega
Funny title , Rolex response to the speedmaster was the cosmograph ( not selected by nasa ) Daytona which no one cared about until people on Instagram started flexing them
You mean investors started flexing them to make money out of people charging dumb prices
Popular way before Instagram you must be joking
@@bradnorris3811 Yeah, people started flexing with them on Facebook and MySpace, and that was the beginning of the end.
I was able to get my 3861 speedmaster 3 weeks ago after about 9 months of anticipation, and it did not disappoint. I want to add that for me , it went to the moon because it was great, not the other way around. it can stand on its own. Also love the lack of attention from people who dont know it, and the case shape is great for small wrists.
"... now the turns have tabled" - I see what you did there! Classic!
I had to scroll way too far to find this. Thank you, sir.
I love my 3861 speedy. picked one up after the Moonswatch madness began and said "why don't I just get the real thing?" and I can't take it off my wrist.
how old are you brother ?
@@RickyRicon2023 says a DW wearer
3861 is the much needed move to METAS for the whole speedmaster line. The transparency of the testing is what the industry needs more of (looking at you crown).
It's not my intent to pick a fight, but how so? If one can verify that a Rolex does indeed maintain +2/-2 and can at least pass pressure tests commensurate with the watch's stated resistance, what transparency is required? Maison like Rolex, PP, AP, VC, JLC, etc do not publish their internal testing methodology - presumably for tradecraft reasons - but also because their reputation as a brand demands consistency of quality in order to justify their prices. So long as the end result is satisfactory, do we need to know how the sausage is made?
@@dhunter1133 I think absolutely a more educated consumer results in a healthier market. I’m not sure I want to batter my cased up Rolex to prove their claims when METAS would provide me those results directly. Was happy to see Tudor roll a METAS movement out and hope it proliferates more.
@@dhunter1133 tradecraft reasons? You’re so funny. Not.
@@diavalus - Did I say something humorous? Or are you saying that you think any internal processes that true watchmakers may have developed to give them a competitive edge should just be freely communicated to the marketplace? You don't believe that Patek Philippe communicating to the world, "these are the precise tests we perform, how we actually perform them, and what machines we use to conduct those tests" isn't valuable information to a competitor? Now THAT's funny.
@@NicholasCFranklin - Fair enough. Although I must confess, I'm not certain how putting your Rolex on a timegrapher or having your seals checked (which you should be doing annually anyway) would batter the watch.
I've had the 1861 and now have the 3861 movement and I will say the 3861 is so much better. Even the pusher action is better. It's nice and crisp and almost has the feeling of a column wheel. Couple that with better accuracy, antimagnetic and the hacking movement make it worth every penny.
It's amazing how crisp the actuation is on the 3861. I was really surprised when I tried it out on my friends speedy.
I think the pusher action on 3861 is as good as a cam system can get, crisp and solid
Except the bracelet sucks
@@whereRbearsTeeth bracelet is great but the clasp sucks. I switched the clasp with the chronoscope clasp so I get some tool free micro adjust.
@@JamesMaccarone the bracelet is crap, likely made in China. Compare it to a modern Rolex jubilee and you’ll clearly see the huge gap in quality. It’s a shame too, because 20 years ago omega bracelets were far better than Rolex.
Do everybody's favourite workhorse, the Valjoux 7750, next. Nearly 50 years old, and turning up in the most unexpected places.
+1 from me. Would love to see a vid on the 7750.
For a video about the 3861 movement its pretty incredible that all the shots of the watch until the last 15% of the video are from older omegas. The thumbnail isn't even of the 3861 speedy.
Lol
I recently bought a Speedmaster Moonphase in stainless steel/black dial and I have to say that I am absolutely in love with the build quality, the crispness and deepness of the black color and also the accuracy and looks of the 9904 movement.
I have the 3861 Speedmaster sapphire sandwich and it is a beautiful and wonderfully durable watch. I wore it daily for six months and there is barely a mark on it.
More recently I picked up the Speedmaster 57 - blue dial on steel bracelet and I love it.
I also really appreciate the great service and follow through from the Omega boutique. It makes the watch buying experience an absolute pleasure.
I bought my saphire sandwich Speedmaster Moon Watch for my 30th last year. I reckon I have worn it every single day since then. Even if just going to the super market.
I can't stop looking at it, I pinch myself every morning I wind it and get to put it on!
Never gets old.
Maybe a stupid idea, but the ETA 2824 would be interesting I think. Also the difference between finishes etc.
Got my 3861 hesalite delivered yesterday and I'm in LOVE. Only complaint, I wish Omega kept the big box for this new edition and I hope they offer the Hesalite with sapphire case back in the future. The movement is too beautiful to be hidden away. Once mine is due for service I will buy the OEM sapphire caseback and have the solid case back replace.
Good to see this video. I’ve always said that a case and dial can be as pretty as pie, but if the movement is sub par it all means nothing. Hope you do more on this subject. How about the Felsa 693, that is the heart of my Enicar triple date moon phase watch with their patented Bydinator. Would love to see you do a piece on that.
4:00 A romantically powerful visualisation and (I think) 100% true!
What an outstanding presentation of this wonderful piece of history. Sometimes someone just gets it right the first time and with time and a little tweeking a plane races towards 50 years of service. But a watch, a watch movement needs to be spot on in time and place to make a mark in history and this one has done and is doing it still.
7:10 The First and Only Watch Worn on the Moon ( Forgetting the Apollo 14 Rolex GMT-master pilot watch and the Apollo 15 Bulova 8815 chronograph)
If they ever really went to the Moon. I know officially they were there 6 times (Apollo 13 failed) but I've seen some questionable footage about the "Moon landings".
@@norbertk.5328 So have I and always presented by imbeciles
Always learn something watching your pieces. Thank you and made me want to wear my Speedy again!
Great video, well done. I own the 3861 and it's my everyday watch. One of the only pieces that look amazing on the new bracelet, nato (I rotate 4 colours) and leather straps alike. Great purchase and great value
Hey Andrew, I'd love to learn more about the eta 2892/sw300 movement. Specifically, I would like to learn about its invention/inception, various changes in components throughout the years, and how it is different from each other. This movement is in a lot of modern day watches and it's also quite a beautiful movement so i would also love to see some macro shots done by you and your excellent team!
I am convinced there's no better way to start the weekend than a new Watchfinder & Co. video and a cup of coffee. Thanks again for another cracking video.
Why not a cup of urine?🥤
Great video. Really didn’t need to mention “you know who” in the title.
Great video!! I’m hoping to get the speedy very soon if all goes well!!
Can you do a video about the IWC cal 89? It's the one in the watch my father left me and got me interested in the subject. Thanks for doing such great stuff.
Amazing, ever since I grist started to get into and learn about watches the omega speedmaster (moon watch) has been my favourite, my grail watch I said I would one day own. This year I finally made that happen and haven't regretted it a single bit.
Absolutely excellent vid my friend. The best watch orator / narraytpr on YT by far. Perfect. Well done.
Lovely presentation, of course. Still the best. For me a great joy as I put my deposit down on a Hesalite 3861 Moonwatch just yesterday. I won't get to see the 3861 but I know it's there and I like the look on the wrist better.
I poses the FOIS for 5 years on 1861 and it’s gorgeous! Now I’m thinking to purchase the pilot on 8926 movement.
Any opinions about it, what’s the difference between 3861?
I am very interested to learn about the h.moser Streamliner Flybak Chronograth watch and especially in detail about its movement.🙏
Thank you for your work, you have the best videos in all of RUclips.👍
The previous gen sapphire sandwich with the 1863 is the most beautifully finished machine finished movement. The bevels almost look hand done on the bridges.
I have a Tissot with a Lamania 873 Chronograph and have been struggling to find some background on it. You stopped at 863 movement in this video, any similarities to the 873?
Loved this format!
Love my new moonwatch a lot. Having it makes me feel emotionally connected with the greatest history in mankind.
These videos are always killer! I wear my 1861 Speedy almost daily and it never fails to make me smile. A 3861 Speedy would be great but I can't justify the expense when my older watch is still so good.
I’d take an 1861 over the new 3861 all day long. Aesthetically it’s better, not to mention a far better bracelet
I understand your frustration, but unfortunately the caliber 1861 is clearly inferior in every respect, it cannot be compared with the new caliber 3861 which is practically perfect. I also understand that as an owner of 1861 you can feel annoyed but you have to look at the reality and stay in peace and enjoy what you have ^^ Good life
@@zioromesp4991 99.9% of the owner wont see any difference between the 1861 and 3861. Like it or not, the most important factor is the aesthetic of the watch. If you want the more accurate mouvement, buy an Apple Watch :D
@@22Epic I totally disagree, especially taking the reference with sapphire, where you see the movement. I also want to remind you that this latest 3861 movement was the only one to pass all METAS AND COSC tests. the difference is substantial.
@@zioromesp4991 So you like to be able to see the movement, sound like an aesthetic thing to me, so thanks to prove my point I guess :D
Also the 3861 is less accurate than a Apple Watch, so I guess it sucks then ?
A little while back you folks asked what else people would like to see. This is it! Brand and movement history... love it!
I sold my 41060M submariner for a speedmaster 3861 with sapphire. It's incredible, and I paid my mortgage for a few months with the leftover $.
Did you just said, that the turns have tabled? Anyhow I got my 1991 861 Speedmaster Moonwatch as an milestone for an very important and life changing experience in my life and never looked back since. Now I own several Omega watches and do really love them.
3861 My favourite watch and movement! But I’m kinda keen to see the new 1815 A. Lange & Sohne rattrapante…
@@5amarillo5 whoever said anything about a comparison? I said I like the new moonwatch and I’d like to see the new Lange as Andrew asked “which watch would you like to see next” or “which other watch should we show” which one do you own?
Would love to see a feature on Speedmaster 38 co-axial chronograph and the history of Speedmaster reduced!!
I would love to see a video about the Zenith Calibre 135 and it's story. Maybe if you get lucky enough to put your hands on a Zenith x Kari Voutilainen Calibre 135 Observatoire Limited Edition.
Need honest opinions. Classic Omega Speedmaster Moon Watch or Omega speedmaster co-axial ‘57??
Been watching your videos for the wholeday.... Im a big fan..... Pls review seiko sla043.... Would love to hear your thoughts on that one.... Thank you pls keep on uploading... Such a joy to watch.....
Is 9904 caliber in blue moonphase speedmaster worth the money or this movement is better?
Magnificent tribute to a very significant movement and it’s evolution thus far… Also great that I just recently transitioned from the 1861 to the 3861 and I love it…!! 😉
The Valjoux 7750 and its derivatives would be an interesting movement for you to explore. It’s in so many watches it would be interesting to hear your take on its history.
Excellent video, thank you!
Would be really interesting if you talked about the Grand seiko 9SA5 (dual impulse escapement). It's got an 80 hour power reserve at beat of 36000. It's an absolutely insane movement for the price. Great video by the way!
Very beautiful watch, went to a store for this watch, tried it(the old version), the Planet Ocean, the Seamaster, but decided to buy a Tag Heuer Carrera skeleton 3 years ago, still very pleased an it's a stayer. I could not stop thinking about the Moonwatch however. Bought it last month as well. I love it, stylish, sporty, reliable and in my opinion suitable for a suit. I feel proud wearing it, not only because of the beauty and quality but because of the heritage and story.
Carrera skeleton is a magnificent timepiece. Probably my favourite. Speedmaster also a beautiful watch.
I own the 1861. My everyday watch even though I own a few other luxury pieces. I would like a 3861 but can’t justify owning pretty much the same watch. I would however like the new 312 Speedy. The Speedy 312 is more obtainable than a Daytona.
Amazing, Great Work !! the 321 was so powerfull and a little expensive, then they replece for 861 then 1861 and then 3861
My 3861 Hessalite Speedmaster is one of the favourite watches I own.
Whay else is in your collection?
Is it possible to get your hands on a Romain Gauthier Insight Micro Rotor? The macros for those would be insane!!!
Please produce an episode on how complications like the moon phase or perpetual calendar work. What's the math involved? What mechanisms make it happen? How does a watch count the right number of days over a year or years???
Thanks for another very informative and thoroughly enjoyable video.
I have a modern 321 Speedie so appreciate its history. I also have several anniversary 3861 models so also appreciate their improvements on the 321 movement. But I recently acquired a Fortis Cosmonaute Chronograph from 1995 with a Lemania 5100 movement. It's a beauty and of course adds more space history to my space-related collection of watches (like an Bulova Accutron Astronaut and a Seiko Pogue).
I knew Lemania was a respected movement maker and knew it had helped Omega produce what became the 321 in 1957 when first launched in the Speedmaster, but I hadn't realised that the 321 was effectively used by the holy trinity manufacturers too. Of course Lemania is now owned by ETA and hence part of the Swatch group so still connected to Omega. But the 5100 is an amazing movement and has some nicer and more useful complications than the Omega Speedmaster like a central minute and second hand for the chronograph as well as the 24-hour display plus day-date function. I wonder what would have happened had those functions found their way into the Speedie? If you ever use the chronograph on the Speedie the small sub dials (like any similar chronograph) are harder to read depending where the central hour and minute hands are, especially when your eyesight isn't the sharpest!
Now that's appreciating watches as they should be! Not screaming in glee bec Rolex came out with a new bezel color! 😆
Hi! Just curious
Why you have a Pentax MX in your video
What an AWESOME video! Thank you!!
Once again a stellar video. Thanks for the great work.
I would be interested in learning more about the JLC 380 and 182 movements
The Speedy is the thinking mans Daytona, just like an Aston is a thinking mans sports car. The watch you buy when you don't want to follow the crowd, when you don't want to shout 'Look at me. look at me I've got a rolex!!'
I’d love to see a video about the Zenith DeLuca & the Primero movt.
My July 1994 Omega Speedmaster chronograph ran daily without any problems until July 2016 before it needed a service !
3861 might still have a few teething problems ? 🤔
Pls review seiko sla043.... I think it can compete to swiss divers w partial of the cost
Still in love with my Speedmaster 3861. Ofcourse went for the one and only original with hesalite.
Beautiful watch! 👌 Please could you review the new 2022 Aqua Terra?
Could you please explain why my Bowel Movement needs timing?
I don't know if it a "Great" movement, but have you considered covering the Omega cal. 866 ?
Great video. I might be the only watch enthusiast to, while appreciating it, have zero interest in buying a moon watch. There have just been others I solidly like better for the money-just personal preference. You might have changed my mind.
I’ve owned the sapphire sandwich for almost 12 months - great watch, only complaint is the lack of micro adjustable clasp which has been an issue for me during the summer months . Lack of water resistance stops it being a do anything only watch IMO.
Same journey with this watch here!🙋🏻♂️
You could actually change clasps with a chronoscope for that micro adjustment
@@v0llm1lch
Tried ordering the chronoscope clasp and connecting link. Clasp came but Omega couldn’t provide the connecting link . Went back and forward with my AD for weeks with no luck . Hopefully they will update the Speedy clasp and make it available to retrofit.
For that allrounder you can always buy Sub.😉
@@slobodankavukovic5928 as i did😅
Really good story, thank you.
However, for now, being £4k short of the asking price for one of my grails, I'll stick with my basic Sinn 356.
For now...
what grail?
Classic episode Andrew ...really enjoyed it! I guess the next one to explore would be the El Primero...if a bit obvious, but it would make a nice pairing with this one.
I've always thought so, that's why the best 2 calibers are the 321 and the last 3861. The best movement in the world, capable of passing all the various metas and cosc tests, clearly superior to Rolex, my only fear is that will gain more and more value and Omega will also reduce production and will fall into the hands of resellers with stellar / lunar quotations, just think of Snoopy with the same caliber 3861 ^^. That's why despite having the 321 I bought the last moon with the 3861 exhibition back
How often do Omega release new Moonwatch Hesalite models (not limited editions, etc.)?
Firstly, with all the praise it gets, i still think it is underrated. the 1863 is as gorgeous as a non hand finish movement can get, how is a B01 even close? how is an El primero better? And am I wrong or the finish on the 3861 is not on par with the 1863??
so, I guess I`m just one of the very few people who got a faulty movement? The chrono stops and the general time stops as well, happens very often when using it.. I need to sent it back to Omega to get it fixed (free of charge of course, it's still under warranty) but it takes 3-4 months to get it back.. I will still wear it this summer with the 392403 nato straps I've got and will send it in autumn.. Will be sad times :)) I love it otherwise!
My favorite watch. Best watch brand of all.
Love my 3861 sapphire Speedy. I just wish the bracelet tapered less or not at all.
I have a Schumacher Speedmaster with the enlarge “1” numeral.
Please do a video on the OMEGA Caliber 9300/9900!
The movement is a big part of my motivation when considering a watch.
That's why I purchased a Longines Master Chrono Moonphase.
It uses the venerable 7751 Valjoux. It may not be the prettiest or dantiest of movements but (for a reasonable cost) it just does SO much. It's bulletproof, reliable and accurate.
It doesn't lose or gain ANY time over a week or month. I've had two motorbike accidents while wearing it and although I've scuffed the case (and had it polished out) it keeps on going.
😂😂
More importantly, you got to Keep On Going too
@@kenshilcock7198... Yeah, I bounce well!
Sometimes I think I’m so basic because I can’t fully appreciate these magnificent movements. Granted a quartz watch is more accurate but the effort and attention to detail in these mechanical watches are really interesting.
please do a review for the glashutte original panomaticlunar
I just bought my fourth Pagani - the Speedmaster “homage”.
I don’t have a massive office and…. I don’t have a life laboured by debt and children. Neither do I have a desire to spend valuable boat maintenance and running cash to be able to impress others in casual conversation about my expenditure. Although I am prepared to talk boat speed, hull efficiency and thus fuel burn - maybe I can use the chronograph for that?
Wonderful presentation as ever and I give you a view from the same side of the street, but let’s say “with different glasses on…”
Grailwatch. I love my seamaster diver300m but this is the next.
Ah yes, as you say, along came the calibre 863. But what about the calibre 864? Now that was a fitting movement to go in the Speedmaster. How many of these chronometer rated movements were made? Who knows, but they were the best…. but mostly forgotten…..
I bought mine in 1981 ,its never missed a beat , still looks stunning.
I've loved my 1861 hesalite speedy pro since I bought it, but I am very tempted to move it along to pick up a new 3861 sapphire speedy. Tough choice!
Don’t do it
Keep the 1861
Do it and send yours to my house! Think of it you will be so relieved!! You can make 2 people happy for the price of one!
I sold mine a few years ago, as I needed the capital - I believe in 2008 or a little later and purchased in 1974 - always regretted the sale! The only thing I never regretted were the service costs - exorbitant and over-the-top, and never once was it a good service - the price of a good Seiko sport watch - and more than double that now!
Omega Seamaster 300 Classic next plz. The one witht he lollipop secondhand.
I have a sapphire sandwich. it was my first luxury watch purchase. it will never leave my collection.
Man, I want this speedy so goddamn much, it's 100% my next watch!
You won't regret it 😉got my 3861 sapphire sandwich last December and I still wear it 2-3 days a week
‘Now the turns have tabled’
Fantastic
1000% nothing like a Speedy. I have a Hesalite 3861 new model. My favourite watch ever
Curious on your take on MING
Seiko's 4500A or Seiko 6139 I believe both of them have a great story to tell.
I thought that this would be just another Speedmaster video, lucky I decided to watch it anyway, it was quite interesting.
It’d be great if you could tell the story of the Longines 13ZN calibre
Really missed this king of videos. Thank you.
Could you do the zenith defy Chrono skeleton.
