I agree. Having a dog in your life is a privilege. Every single one of them is a valuable gift, and they are so often underappreciated, or treated like a nuisance. Human beings - we just don't know what we have.
We rescued a pittie-mix who didn't get along with our dogs initially, she just needed time to decompress, and now she is just fine with our dogs... Just time and patience sometimes pays off... Thank you to Julie for tirelessly sharing these homeless pups!
I feel so sad that poor Kylie has been sitting at the animal shelter for so long, It just breaks my heart, because she's such a pretty dog and she looks so gentle. She would make a wonderful companion for someone. I just adopted a cat from a shelter a couple of months ago, so I wouldn't be able to adopt a dog. I pray that someone will adopt this sweet, innocent soul soon and that she will find her loving, forever home. Hopefully this heartwarming video will help generate some interest for her. This beauty got pregnant, was thrown out, had her babies separated and adopted out, and then found herself sitting in a small kennel for 22 hours a day surrounded by barking dogs she can’t see or interact with. Any dog in that scenario would not be fond of other dogs. She seems like such a fun dog and one that would definitely love hard. Also painful to hear if she was at another shelter she’d be put down. She’s so vibrant and full of life. Has so much hope on her eyes…seems like a glass half full kind of gal.
She didn't get "thrown out." The previous owners couldn't afford the vet bills that came with her having a prolapsed uterus when she had her puppies.So they surrendered her to the shelter so that she could get the surgery she needed and thus her life was saved.
I worked for a vet almost 50 years ago, and sometimes we had to put an animal down because the owners couldn't afford the cost of the surgery to fix the problem. Back then no shelter in our area would take an animal like that as they didn't have a vet on staff. In fact, our shelter used the local veterinarians when they adopted out an animal to have them either spayed or neutered. The new owner paid a nominal fee that then went to the vet in the form of a spay/neuter coupon. All the female dogs were charged a flat fee by the shelter for the spay, no matter how large the dog was. It didn't matter if it was a chihuahua or a Saint Bernard. But the vet's cost was higher with the larger dogs, both in the amount of anesthetic used and the time it took to do the procedure. So on some of the big dogs, we lost money on the spays. The same with the male dogs. The cats were a little cheaper for 2 reasons, one, they were all about the same size and two, because we used a different anesthetic. But the females were still more expensive as they had to have abdominal surgery, while the males did not.
Not all of the ideas of a pet being a part of the family has been common until quite recently. Some people still think of their pets as just that, pets. They will not or cannot spend an exorbitant amount of money on an animal, no matter how much they love them. I'm thankful that there are organizations out there that are willing to find the money and do the work needed to save these animals.
However, if it came down to spending money to save my child or my dog, my child would win every single time.
Sorry - but I’ve rescued dogs for the last 25 years. The reasons people dump their dogs - goes beyond medical costs (which by the way have gotten way out of control!). Yet, my belief has always been if you bring an animal into your life - it MUST BE for the life of that dog!! If you know you will not be able to give a dog the kind of life he/she deserves - if you cannot plan for those emergencies - then do not have an animal. Period!!!! If your human child got sick, you wouldn’t dump your problem on someone else to pick up the pieces! This poor girl had NO business getting pregnant to begin with!! Let’s just start there!
In many places throughout the country, low cost spay/neuter programs exist. If this family who did dump Kylie in her time of need - she may have been able to live her life out with this family. In the end, maybe it was a blessing she’s away from that family and someday, hopefully soon - she will find her FOREVER family!
@@alycewich4472 It's extremely irresponsible to get a dog and not have it spayed/neutered. If someone can't afford the cost of doing this, then don't get the animal in the first place.
@@cyndipalmer8061 I agree with you mostly, though in our area the emergency vet clinics and some of the regular ones have been bought up by venture capitalists. Their prices have exploded, even for routine procedures, and they push HARD getting you on a credit plan. It's extremely exploitive as when you're worried and scared you're in no condition to make good financial choices and could end up losing your house.
Why couldn't her family get her back now that she doesn't need medical care?

This is a perfect dog for the Asher House! I did email them the information and sent them some pictures! I can’t guarantee that they’ll see my email or how many people also try to contact them with similar stories. But I would say reach out to Lee at the Asher House and see if they’re willing to take Kylie! I know he would love her! It’s just the kind of dog he rescues!🙏. Now I just have hope somebody here from the shelter gets this message.!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE GIVE US AN UPDATE WHEN KYLIE GETS ADOPTED. This video broke my heart. Our 2 dogs and 2 cats are shelter dogs. One of our doggies had been attacked by a much bigger dog. He has huge scars, only one eye and no teeth. When we adopted him he had a big sign that read "no one wants me". He is the greatest, most beautiful dog-so cuddly!
I hope Kylie finds her forever home, too.

@@amalekedomite probably because they couldn't even afford basic vet care in the first place otherwise she would have been spayed! And then after the caesarean they would have expected the shelter to pay for the spay too. If you can't afford basic care for your pet then you shouldn't have any.

Oh well, sure the dog was locked in a tiny cage for three years. But at least she didn't have to spend any more time with her owner, who presumably loved her, who was poor. They didn't even want to surgically mutiliate her for their convenience! The monsters!

Never force one animal to like others. This is what starts fights, escalating and inappropriate behaviors, leads to surrendering. So If it is meant to be, it is meant to be. If not, then she has to go to home with NO kids, NO other pets/NO other animals.
You can never make an animal that has been separated from other animals for this long like other animals. You have to have a place to keep this dog separated from the others. First you let the dog get used to you and it's surroundings until it feels safe and secure because what they have been thru is very traumatic. Then slowly over time you let them be closer to the other animals on their terms like a yard separated by a fence and you let time and nature take it's course. Most of the time if done this way the dog will eventually become acclimated and curious about the dog on the other side of the fence and start trying to interact with the other dog. I say most of the time because some never recover from being separated from other dogs for so long. You have to leave it up to them. It's much better for the dog to just be adopted by someone who doesn't have any other pets so that they can give their full attention and love to this one dog so that it knows that it is loved and the center of your attention. They don't have to feel like they need to fight for your attention like many in this situation feel they have to do. Remember that dogs can be very jealous of attention paid to other animals even when they havn't been thru something like this poor dog has. The dog and what's best for it has to be your priority. I rescue dogs and i've been thru this many times with dogs that have been kept in cages for long periods of times. Most of the time i was able to help them come back to a place where they wanted to interact with other dogs and learn to love to be part of a pack again but i've had five cases where after a year it still hadn't happened and i just found them homes where people didn't have pets. Either way they all ended up in good homes with people who loved them and they were happy and that's all that really matters.
If I had been the woman visiting for two years, I would have adopted the dog long ago. At least she still visits the dog. I pray they find a loving home for the poor dog. She seems so sweet.
As she stated, Kylie needs to be an only dog. Her kind visitor already has at least one dog. Still hard to believe that in 3 years they haven't found one person to take sweet Kylie as their one and only. She looks like she would bring so much love and joy into a home.

I rescued an older dog of 7.5 years old and it has been such an amazing journey with him. I would rather get an older dog and not go through crazy the puppy stage .. these dogs are so appreciative when you adopt them and full of love. Take it slow, get to know them and let them unwind from being in the shelter and watch their confidence grow and personality shine. You won’t regret it!

We are seniors and have 2 dogs. We do not want our dogs to outlive us, so when our pups are gone there will be no more family. Wish we were younger, I would adopt her in a heartbeat.

Maybe she should have been given back to her family. They couldn't afford her medical procedure, so they had to surrender her. They weren't abusing her. They tried to do what was in her best interest by giving her up so she could be treated by a vet. How is it better for her to sit in a shelter for 3 years than to be given back to her family? It's sad someone has to handover a family member because of money. So many vets have us emotionally hostage with high prices. Why didn't the shelter give her back to her owners after all he babies went to homes. She made enough money from her babies she deserves to go to the owners. Give her back instead of her being caged for 3 years. Yes these shelters do amazing work for animals. But if her original owners want her back give her back. I don't like talking negative about people helping animals. I'm just so tired of seeing wanted pets surrendered to shelter because they can't afford the emotionally hostage high price tag. That has to stop and these wanted animals that their owners had no choice but to surrender need to go back to their owners

I so love all animals, but I don't understanding spending fortunes to import a dog or cat from the other side of the world when there are so many like this precious creature, waiting locally for someone to give them their 'forever' home.
I dont understand why the shelter will only pay for the emergency medical treatment if the original owners give the dog up. Surely it would have been better to give her back to them? Who benefits from locking her in a cage for three years?
Selfishly I’m happy this lady didn’t become a vet but instead ended up working at this shelter, she seems to be doing such wonderful things for these animals and it brings me joy to know she is there.

You should check with The Asher House and see if they could adopt her. I know they adopt a lot of sweet dogs that are in tough situations. I think they are somewhere in Washington as well. I wish I could have her, she looks so sweet! ❤
She looks just like our puppy Zoey. If she got along with other dogs I would take her home. We live about 45 minutes south of Toledo, OH. They showed one of their local humane society's. Bring on extra foster homes, so no four legged babies will be there for Christmas. It's so even if it's just a few days. The babies have a home for Christmas. It's a great idea.

How about getting her a soft bed to sleep on. If she has to live in a shelter at least make it comfortable for her. A thin blanket is hard to rest on. If I had the means I'd gladly provide for her but sadly I don't. I feel so sad for her and worse, in that area of WA too. Not much hope for her there.
Why keep a dog in a cage for 22 hours as you said? There must be a large area that you could leave them in for most of the day so that they can run around. It’s just cruel to leave them in a cage.
Have you checked with the Asher house? See if they can take her they’re very good with the animals so even though she has to be an only animal, she might find a better set with a pack.
