We will remember . I lost a childhood friend on the streets of Belfast . He was not political , nor very religious and came from Bewdley Staffordshire . Died very young . Lovely family . Makes me so sad even after decades , always will . Then there were all the others , on all sides , and the underlying problems still exist ?
Many do not realise the troubles were further 'stirred up' by criminal elements , beyond religion really . A book by Martin Dillon tittled 'The Shankill Butchers A case of mass murder ' enlightened me and I recommend that people of all nations read it .
    RIP

1972 Was the worst year for loss of life, both Military and civilian in the long campaign of Operation Banner. My Missus is a Belfast Girl and I have spent the best part of the last Twenty years there. You could not meet nicer people than the ordinary Northern Ireland Native. My Heart goes out to all those Families who have suffered as a result of this madness and my total respect to the people who paid the ultimate price. God bless them all and may peace remain in Northern Ireland.

@Conor Fields The criminals were much, much higher up the ladder. They created the mayhem that occurred. The men and women that were in uniform were there doing a job.

@Conor Fields I know all about collusion, I have read enough on the subject over the years. I recently finished a book called Lethal Allies, By Anne Cadwallader. The Troops did not want to be there, anymore than they were wanted there. The point I was trying to make is that it is the politicians and the people at the very top that create that sort of mayhem, Not your average man in uniform.

Back then, as l remember, there was no “Help for Heroes”, positive stories in the media or walking out in uniform in your own country. We were ignored by the public, vilified by the BBC and forbidden to wear uniform as it brought unwelcome attention.
It was a thankless task in Northern Ireland, pretty much forgotten by most people nowadays. For me, it’s ancient history now, l’m over it but l haven’t forgotten.

People from Northern Ireland, like myself, will never forget the sacrifice made by these young lads. I grew up in that area and had a horrendous childhood in the 70s.

We will remember our boys for fighting out there. They fought they died, true bravery is from a soilder who dies fighting in combat, no matter the things they see they continue to know that they're sacrifice has boosted the others to continue.

Sorry for your loss. Especially at the expense of such an unjustified occupation of Ireland. A United Ireland is coming but we will remember those Welsh brothers sent to their slaughter by HMG.
