Thanks for sharing this! These are all good tips for less than 1TB and maybe 2 or 3 devices. I'm not a professional photographer, just an enthusiast and a dad, and I'm dealing with about 8TB of photos, regular and raw, from 360 cameras, drone, mobiles, mirrorless camera... This whole thing is doing my head in. :( I even know what has to be done in THEORY, but with this much media it's just too difficult and/or too time consuming and/or too expensive. I've been doing it little by little, but I'm not sure I'll ever catch up.
Yes I feel your pain as I also organise client photos so you can imagine the amount of photos I see. If storage is an issue, I would definitely invest in a NAS. And to get rid of duplicates fast check out some deduplication tools, ruclips.net/video/OeQYx542Dyk/видео.html that will definitely get you on the road to taking control!😊
@amandalittlecott thank you, I'll definitely look into that. It'd have to be a tool that keeps a complete log though, as I'm paranoid with the idea of losing photos in the process i.e. by deleting photos that seem like duplicates aren't actually. For now I do my backups manually using Tera Copy (which I use for any and all file transfer or copy, BTW, and I highly recommend, as it does keep a log. This is from the perspective of a Windows user, not sure how MacOS handles these things).
@andrecoxa yes I totally understand, as I am sorting any photos I always keep my own Trash folder of files that I will eventually delete but keep them there just in case I make a mistake. Then when it is all done and I'm happy, I then delete them. Happy sorting. 😊
