I love watching flash meme on people like this, and the best part is its not just a meme. Playing the other two races gives him insight on how they have to respond to threats and pressure, so he can refine his terran play to GIVE them said pressure.
If he can surpass sn0w then no doubt, however right now if Flash and sn0w 1v1'd it would probably be a 3-1 ratio sn0w taking lead, however given time Flash will definitely beat him
Shield Upgrades have some interesting mechanics behind them. Protoss Units Regen 1 shield point per in-game Second (or faster) and if you have a fully upgraded Zealot / Goon with 4 armor and 3 shields... that 1 Shield point negates 4 points of damage... then the armor negates another 4 points of damage... meaning the next incoming hit negates 8 damage. Tempo wise the shield upgrade is bad but otherwise it negates 1 hit worth of damage usually ever 1s in game or so.
Yes the interaction when shield is at 1 point is very beneficial for Protoss, subtracting the shield armor and regular armor from the incoming hit. And just having -3 damage per hit on the full shield is also very good against fast firing units like marines or zerglings. Against bigger units with higher explosive or concussive damage its not that insanely good because shield takes full damage from all damage types, but -3 damage on a hit from a dragoon, vulture or hydra is still pretty good.
It's not 1 shield per second. It's 7/256 shield per frame, so it takes 37 frames to regenerate a full point of shield (and then some). At fastest speed, that's 1.554 seconds. It's still true though that every second and a half or so, the shield armor kicks in again. But regular armor will be applying on every hit at that point. Of course, shield armor also applies to the first few hits of fresh units, while armor does not. So in some cases, shield armor can be better than regular armor. In practice though, regular armor is better for the units it affects, with the exceptions of the archon and dark archon. Of course, it doesn't affect structures or flying units, so if you have a significant air force or a lot of archons, shield armor can be better. But usually it is worse, or at least not enough better to be worth the extra resources. But since lvl 1 shields is much cheaper than lvl 3 armor, it makes sense just for that reason.
Flash showed how applying pressure to slow down zerg tech even on the backfoot shows how you can create a longer window for a chance to take a game before dark swarm arrives. His approach covers the meta, even while behind and is still enough to bleed out his opponent. His execution and delivery shows us how protoss can improve in the early to mid game, even while behijd.
PvZ might actually be the best match up in BW. PvT is the same thing every time, ZvT kinda falls off once dark swarm spam starts. PvZ is so consistently dynamic and fun to watch.

oh damn man ! if flash wasnt impatient with that last engage and would have set up the 9 o clock base first he wouldve been in a much better position... he really catapulted himself out of the race after such an insane and great counter attack prior to it ! really fun game and amazing to see flashs aggressive protoss
As far as I remember, all zerg units doing full damage vs all protoss units? Armor mostly better because you already have armor. Like 2 armor goon means 9 per shot for 2 attack hydra So 3d armor will give you more then 11% damage reduction for 100 health 80 shield unit. And shield could give 1/12th =8.3% * 0.8. Over all it gives 6.6%. If you take goon to comparison
No, hydras do explosive damage (and devourers). This is mostly relevant against zealots, against which they do half as much dmg as vs most other protoss units. So if the opponent is hydra-heavy and you use zealots getting shields helps a lot.

In pvz corsair are the counter to scourge and mutas. Flash needed to keep his Corsair in a tighter group and needed more so that he doesnt lose any air to scourge.
Zerglings & Lurkers always do max damage to targets (I believe), so having a +2 Armor & +1 Shield is like having a +3 Armor vs them. After that Zerg mixed in more Hydras to his comp

I've read on TL a discussion about how Flash's Random run wasn't as impressive as it seemed because he's supposedly getting massive BO advantages due to knowing his matchup every game immediately, while his opponent has to play super safe to avoid instant losing due to BO. What's your read on this? I only casually watch professional BW, despite having done so a long time, so it's difficult to go "yeah, that sounds right" or "nah, this is bullshit" sometimes when I read things.
3-5 Flash games in a row with a short break between makes perfect sense. Keep the Flash coming, until he stops being interesting. If that ever happens.
Heres my take: im just a noob but it seems to me that a lot of the maps are still kinda anti terran. One of terrans big advantages is that its buildings are big and dont need creep or pylons, so you can build them forward and use as mini walls, get in the way of enemy units and mess up pathing. There is so much unbuildable terrain on maps now though that terrans building becomes a disadvantage, the buildings are big and you lack space. There is little opportunity to simcity outside your base. I was fighting a zerg on one of the ladder maps and I knew he was about to lurker all in me so i went to build some bunkers at my nat. I wanted to build 3-4 kinda staggered away from my CC but there was so little buildable terrain, it was insane. If flash plays protoss instead, then maybe the maps will become pro terran or at least terran neutral again. lol. Whats the reason maps are made with so little buildable terrain outside of the main bases? Is it just to make terran harder?
Terran, played at the highest level, has a pretty sizeable statistical lead over the other two races (especially Protoss). That being said, I think the attempts to equalize things between the races a little bit has pushed things into Zerg favor overall. Balancing a game as complex and long lived as Brood War is not easy, especially since the only option to do so is how you build maps, and you do want things to feel fun and fresh. Then there's things like Troy where proxy gateway just wins ovewhelmingly, lol. But I think Troy is such a cool map! It's just too much of a powerful gimmick.
Again shows how stupid the defiler and his cloud is. Absolutely OP for zerg. Without them the fight was i teresting and epic, then it just becomes dark cloud spam and all the other player can do is retreat in chaos. Horrible unit, the defiler. Game breaking.
Is he playing Protoss just to understand better how to play against it? If so, will we see some Flash Zerg, too? I know you're trying to mix in some non-Terran games, but seeing how he plays against Terran could also be really interesting.
Flash just moving everywhere really delayed defiler tech since dark swarm it's less an MVP if the protoss just attacks everywhere. Flash biggest mistakes were not take the 4 and lose his corsairs
I don't think Flash will return to his previous shape. A lot of things changed, the skill at the top is higher then ever. New builds, new meta...new G.O.A.T.S
I kinda agree, but I'd love to see him and Jaedong hit that ro8/ro4 ASL level at least. At least Bisu is in amazing shape, much better than a lot of the other long term pros.

maybe flash play protoss because he want to pvt so he can create a specific scenario he want to test and see how his terran opponent response to it , when your good like flash you dont have to go look at other pro terran replay and try to find the specific scenario you want to see , you can just play protoss and create it

Off the top of my head, Hydralisks do explosive damage so that's 1 situation where their damage is cut significantly against Zealots.

It's true, but he did play very well with Protoss and competently with Zerg. Random has a lot of advantages in super optimized games like BW.
Can you get a replay of Flash vs a drop hacker? I think you could learn a lot from his playstyle in those games.
