Hi Diaz Noel! No. You can use your driver's license (List B) and an *unrestricted* social security card (List C) for your documents. If you use List B, you also have to use something from List C. So, it's List A only, OR List B and List C together. 👍♥️
@@EssaGroup thank your for answering but I used list B and I put my driver license and social security and at the end was asking me for my status which is law permanent resident I pressed that one and below asked me for my USCIS number. I don’t know why if I didn’t use my green card for filling out the form. I did this process using I-9 everywhere.
If you check that you are a "lawful permanent resident", they will ask for the A-number (USCIS number). If you are an "alien authorized to work" then you can provide your Form I-94 admission number or your foreign passport number. *Asylees and refugees* should select "Alien authorized to work" - not lawful permanent resident. Older Green Cards or Those Without Expiration Dates Green cards issued between 1979 and August 1989 do not have expiration dates and do not need to be renewed unless you wish to use Global Entry kiosks at international airports in the U.S. you will have to get a replacement card. GE kiosks cannot read the old format Green cards. If you have a Green card that was issued before 1989 and the photo was taken when you were a child, you may want to renew it even though its not required. If a CBP Officer is unable to identify you from the old photo as the legal owner of the green card, you could be delayed until your identity is verified. If you have a previous version of the alien registration card (e.g., USCIS Form AR-3, Form AR-103 or Form I-151), you must replace it with a current green card. Hi Isauro. So, legally, you are always supposed to have a valid, non-expired green card on you. However, just because your green card is expired, it does not mean that you are not a permanent resident anymore. You are still a legal permanent resident. So, you should not have any problems with an expired green card, however things are getting a little more strict these days. So, please carry your green card AND the receipt for your I-90 (Form I-797C). The I-797C will show that you have applied for your new green card.
USCIS has issued this statement - You must replace your green card if you have a permanent resident card that does not have an expiration date on it. my.uscis.gov/exploremyoptions/renew_green_card

Hi Ragna. That field office is running at a 13.5 to 16 month complete processing time, so it looks like it might still be awhile. You should not have to renew your green card because you are waiting in line and have a valid receipt number and Form I-797 notice. Your receipt letter (Form I-797) should extend your green card by one year. You can call 800-375-5283 with your receipt notice to ask about the extension of your green card. You can also email them through your online account to let them know the situation. egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do Or, you can try to schedule an appointment with Infopass to get an extension stamp in your passport. my.uscis.gov/appointment

Hi i just noticed that form i-90 online version expires on 7/31/2019 but there's no newer version so how can send that form if it's expired on the USCIS website? thanks!
Hi Neemat. Yes, the N-400 is expired as well. USCIS is accepting these expired forms until they release the new version. It is recommended to apply online for your I-90 directly through the USCIS.gov website if possible. It will go faster and is more secure.
Hello!! I'm going on a cruise next week but my green card is expired. I just want to make sure that they will allow me to board with my passport, my expired green card and the I-797 extension letter? is there anything else I should do like getting a stamp on my passport? thanks in advance!
Hi Laura! It will depend on your cruise line and the ports of call. Please contact your cruise line to see what documents they will need for boarding and if your expired green card will be an issue. Please check with them about the I-797 notice. Some cruise ships and airlines are not familiar with the letter. A temporary I-551 passport stamp or sticker on your green card is usually better. You can usually get one through InfoPass at your local field office. You can try to schedule online or you may need to call the 800 number. It depends on your particular field office - my.uscis.gov/en/appointment/v2
Thank you for the informative video. If my green card has expired and I am currently on wait list to be naturalized via citizenship does this mean I cannot attain employment? From my understanding is if I have a valid drivers license and social security number as well as permanent residency status I should be able to. Could you clarify? I'm currently employed but have been meaning to change careers Asap.
Hi Martin. For new employment, you will need to establish identity and employment authorization. Here is what you will need for new employment - www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/130-acceptable-documents-verifying-employment-authorization-and-identity You can use something from List A or use a combination of List B (driver's license) and C (ssn card). You can also use your passport if you got the temporary extension stamp in it Form I-551.
If your green card has expired you will not be able to become a citizen believe that I went through all the steps my card expired too so they told me to apply for my green card this takes up to a year but once you have proof that you applied and payed for it they will give you a temporary card with that you are able to do your interview and tests.Good luck
What about someone how Lost his green card and didn't renew it and traveled overseas after his 10 years card expired and couldn't get back to the States . Left the States in 2014. Stock overseas?
Hi Mustafa. You will need to make an appointment with your closest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Please see here for list - www.usembassy.gov/ There will be a link for lost, stolen, or expired green cards.
Hi! My mother in law live outside united states in more than a year and their greencard expired. If ever they renew the green and go back here in US. Are they still allowed to re entry? Thanks.
Hi Time. This might be a bit of a problem. Usually the US will consider this as an abandonment of permanent resident status. If she does not have a reentry permit and she stayed because of an emergency, she may be able to get a returning resident visa (SB-1) But basically, if you are outside of the United States when the card expires and you have not applied for the renewal card prior to your departure, you should contact the nearest U.S. Consulate, USCIS office, or U.S. port of entry before attempting to file Form I-90 for a renewal green card.
Hi! I applied for a new green card because mine expired. I was given a sticker on my card valid for a year and they told me I could travel with it. I am actually traveling outside the country in 2 weeks. I’m getting a little paranoid though! Can I travel with just the extension sticker on my card? Or do I still need to get a stamp on my passport? Thanks so much in advance!
The stamp on your green card is fine for travel. Just make sure you have enough time and you are not too close to the expiration of the sticker. You may need to point it out to the airlines if you get any questions. Some are not familiar with the sticker. Customs and border patrol should be familiar with the sticker when you return. There is such a backlog of applications right now that many people have extension letters, stamps, and stickers. If you have a receipt for filing for a new green card (I-797C), or a receipt for filing for citizenship (I-797), please bring a copy of the receipt with you as well. That will proves to CBP that you have filed the proper paperwork and are just waiting for your new card or for your interview. :)
My wife and I are traveling to the Philippines soon. She has an expired GC, but USCIS gave her an I-797 Notice that she has an extension for 18months. When we come back to the U.S, would that be enough proof for the CBP that my wife has Permanent Resident status even if her GC is expired? What else would she need to provide?
Hi AlphaOne. Yes, that should be enough for travel outside the country. CBP should know what that is without a problem, but sometimes the airlines get confused. The extension notice and expired green card should work, but it is also helpful and safer to also have either the extension stamp directly in your passport or the extension sticker right on your green card. That usually makes things easier for people not familiar with just the extension notice. You can schedule an Infopass appointment to get the stamp or sticker at your local field office by calling the USCIS Contact Center. Dial 800-375-5283
Hello , after the approved interview, when do i have to get my greencard in the USA? And is it obligated to move to the USA if you have a greencard? If so: in what period do i have to move to the USA when i have a greencard? And how long can i stay out of the USA if so. If not: that would mean that i can always choose if i want to live in the USA or my own country? thank you very much for your answer.
You will need to come to the US before your immigrant Visa expires. Hello I have a question my green card is about to expire in June 16 2019 but have my citizenship interview April 30 the thing is that in the middle of May I will be moving to California from Texas. If I passed my interview am hoping that I do can I get something to proved my immigration status while waiting for the oath ceremony since my green card will expire please help don't know what to do.
Hi Alfredo. If all goes well with your interview and you pass, you can explain to the officer that you will be moving soon. You can request an oath ceremony as soon as possible because of your situation. Sometimes oath ceremonies are very soon after your interview. The form you receive at the end of your interview will prove your status. If there is a problem with your interview, you can ask the officer to please stamp your passport with an I-551 temporary evidence stamp to extend your green card expiration date. Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi Luz. Do you have another form of photo ID that is not expired, such as a passport? You usually need a valid (non-expired) form of photo ID to get through security at the airport. However, On the TSA website, it says that expired licenses will be accepted up to one year after expiration. Please see here under "Expired ID" for more information - www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification I would bring the passport as backup, just in case though. 👍❤️

Hi Luz. You can try renewing your driver's license and get the Real ID, however....you might need a valid, unexpired green card in order to get the new driver's license. It depends on your state requirements for which documents will be accepted. You might need to first renew your green card before you can get the Real ID. Hi Sakine. It depends how long you have been outside the United States. If you have been outside the country for longer than one year, you may have abandoned your permanent resident status. It is also very difficult to come back with an expired green card. Many of the airlines will not even allow you to board the plane. If you get to the U.S., you will most likely be stopped at Customs and Border Protection for traveling with an expired green card. You will be detained at the airport. It may depend how long you have been outside the country. Less than 6 months is best. How long have you been outside the country? If you got stuck outside the country because of COVID, they may just ask you to renew your green card at the border. Basically file the I-90 to renew and pay the fee. You cannot do this outside the country. Many different scenarios here based on your situation. It also depends on the mood of the CBP officer you get tbh - much is left up to the discretion of the officer.
Hi Salinas Pooks. It depends when you filed your N-400. If you filed your N-400 with at least 6 months left on your green card, they may be able to give you the 551 extension stamp at your biometrics appointment. Good morning and thank you for the information. What if you are already working with insurance licenses for a company and the card expires while already employed? Can the expiration cause a red flag to pop up are cause any holds on the licenses?
It should not cause any problems if your green card expires while you are employed. If you green card expires, you are still a legal permanent resident. That does not change. There is no reason your employer should re-verify your green card. If you are working with a work authorization that expires, then that would be different. They may re-verify a work authorization.
My card has expired the beginning of 2017. I renewed it in July and got an appointment for the biometrics in August. Completed that and now waiting for my new card. They temporarily stamped my old card and is valid until August 2018z Does it typically take this long? I am getting married in September and want to have our honeymoon in Hawaii. I know Hawaii is part of the US but will I have issues traveling if I do not get my new card in time?
Hi A May. Go ahead and submit a case inquiry for Case Outside Normal Processing Time here - egov.uscis.gov/e-Request/Intro.do Everything is running way behind and there are tremendous backlogs. You will be fine to travel within the US on an expired card, but it is always better to have an unexpired one just in case. If you don't receive your card by June, I would try to get another extension by making an InfoPass appointment.
Hi A May. I have a question for you, you metioned that they stamped your old card for validation for a year tempararly until you get your new card... does that give you authorization to continue working?
Hi my question is that do I need to renew my green card I think it's a 10 year one or apply for naturalization. I've been living here and working here in is for at least 12 years after I received my green card. My green card expired long time ago.
Hello, I applied for and sent my N-400 form to the immigration center for naturalization but my green card expired at the end of this month. Should I still go ahead and pay the fees to renew my card or will I still be accepted for the testing? I don’t want to renew it if it won’t interfere with anything cause $540 is a lot for me right now.
Hi khai ز. No worries. You should be able to use your N-400 receipt as an extension for your green card. "Effective Dec. 12, 2022, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is updating the USCIS Policy Manual to allow USCIS to automatically extend the validity of Permanent Resident Cards (commonly called Green Cards) for lawful permanent residents who have applied for naturalization." More information here: www.uscis.gov/newsroom/alerts/uscis-updates-policy-to-automatically-extend-green-cards-for-naturalization-applicants Check the language used on your N-400 receipt. It should have the new information as well - "USCIS will update the language on Form N-400 receipt notices to extend Green Cards for up to 24 months for these applicants. The receipt notice can be presented with the expired Green Card as evidence of continued status as well as identity and employment authorization under List A of Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9), if presented before the expiration of the 24-month extension period provided in the notice."
My green card expired last week but idk if I should reapply for a green card or apply for citizenship because my father became a citizen before I was 18 so wouldn’t that automatically make me a citizen?

Hey my green card is about to expire on 5/2020 and I was wondering if I’m able to get my citizenship or renew my green card if I had an expunge case of a marijuana misdemeanor back in late 2017
Hi Yisak. It is best to contact an immigration attorney to review your case before applying for citizenship or renewal. Any type of criminal history during the last five years may be a cause for concern, even if your record was expunged. That said, you would probably have more luck with renewal rather than citizenship at this time. Citizenship would require a full five years of "Good Moral Character" as they call it. Please look here for legal help - www.citizenshipworks.org/findlegalhelp and here - www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/find-help-your-community Let us know if you are in the Washington DC metro area. We can help you.
HI Yisak. If there are citizenship classes in your area, they can usually tell you where to go for free consultations. Any type of marijuana activity on your record, even in states where it is legal, has become a problem now. Make sure it is safe before you send any type of application into USCIS at this time. Your application can be used against you.
Hi Yisak. USCIS just released this statement today about marijuana. So you will definitely need to speak with an immigration lawyer to see if it is safe for you to apply - www.uscis.gov/news/alerts/uscis-issues-policy-guidance-clarifying-how-federal-controlled-substances-law-applies-naturalization-determinations

Hi Vent Des Iles. Yes. If you have a previous version of the Alien Registration Card (for example, USCIS Form AR-3, Form AR-103 or Form I-151, which are no longer valid to prove your immigration status) you should replace it with a current Green Card. www.uscis.gov/forms/explore-my-options/renew-or-replace-my-green-card The current fee to renew is $455, Plus $85 for biometrics if needed. - www.uscis.gov/feecalculator Before you renew your green card, you might like to consider applying for U.S. citizenship instead. You can check here for your citizenship eligibility - www.uscis.gov/citizenship-resource-center/learn-about-citizenship/naturalization-eligibility
Hi Vent. You might also want to consider applying for citizenship instead of renewing your green card. Here is some information about applying for citizenship: You can file USCIS forms yourself, including Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, which can be submitted online. However, some people choose to seek assistance from a lawyer or Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR)-accredited representative. Thank u SO much for all u do. Your videos are VERY helpful. I have a few questions so far and would really appreciate your answers: 1) in one place I saw that one CAN file & pay for n400 ONLINE but in this video u said one can't. Which is correct as of August 2017? 2) if filing by Non-USPS, in one place I saw the Attn.Line reads "Attn: N-400" and in another place it reads "Attn: AOS". Which is correct as of August 2017?
Hi Dalia! Unfortunately you cannot file and pay online for the N400 at this time. For mailing, put "Attn: N-400" Always mark the envelope with your form number. www.uscis.gov/forms-filing-tips
I have a question and hope you can answer. I'm planning to apply for citizenship but I'm not sure if I have ever registered to vote before. How can I check that? I have moved to so many addresses so I cannot confirm now. How does the Uscis verify it? Thank you!
Hi Tristen. USCIS can look in the voter registration database. Check here to see if you've ever registered. Select your state from the dropdown menu - www.nass.org/can-I-vote/voter-registration-status Just be sure you don't actually register. The system (depending on your state) should give you a "not found" or "not registered" answer. Something like that. It might ask you if you want to register. Make sure you don't. If you did accidentally register in the past, you will need to contact the state to get that cleared out.
Hi Essa Group! Thank u for teaching abt info abt expired green card. My card is expired soon. I didn''t know we have to do within 6 month before the card expired. I heard some immigration lawyer on youtube said they will give us 60 days extension & they said some pple got waive interview or biometric waive. Idk if that's mean they don't have to pay $540 or they did have to pay $540 but did not have to go to the interview or biometric cuz the office are closed due to COVID-19 & they can use the old finger print instead. So please let me know asap cuz I need to renew my green card asap but I''m confused whether if they still have the waiving fee or not since my job are closed down due to the virus & they put me off work several month now. :(( Do u think they will deny ur case for waiving fee cuz Trump's new rule? Do u know if u just have to pay $455 & don't have to pay $85 biometric cuz the office are closed now? But I know online they said u have to pay $540 to renew green card. Does pple get foods stamps or unemp.loyment or Medicaid rn count as public charge against them if they want become citizenship now or later? Can u give me a link for reduce the fee? Thank u very much. I appreciated if u can answer me back asap cuz I'm freaking out now & worry abt how to come up w the $ renew my card. :'(
Hi Mai Vu. They are waiving some of the biometrics appointments, but it might depend on how long ago your last fingerprints were taken. If you still have some time left on your green card, you might be able to apply directly for citizenship without renewing first. That would save you some money. You will need to check in with an immigration representative first. There is a good chance they will still want you to renew though - especially in order to receive the extension stamp in your passport or on your green card. We've seen this go both ways depending on the field office. The extension stamp gives you another 18 months on your green card while you wait for a new one. It also allows you to use your expired card for employment and other identification situations. They are waiving some of the actual biometrics appointments, but they are still collecting all the fees. If you want to renew your green card with a fee waiver, you can file the I-90 with the I-912 fee waiver - www.uscis.gov/i-912. You cannot do fee waivers online. There is no option for a reduced fee for the I-90 renewal application. For citizenship - the N-400 application must be sent through the mail with either the I-912 (fee waiver request) or the I-942 (request for reduced fee - www.uscis.gov/i-942). Using public benefits legally should not be a bar for citizenship. The new rule typically only applies to people trying to get their first green card. Essa good afternoon my name is Ana I apply for citizenship at the end of May I have a Mexican passport would they put a green card extension if needed on my passport since my green card expires on July 2020 if there process of my citizenship is not complete by then? Another question is your don't mind can I get a us passport with my green card or it that only for citizens?
Hi Ana. Usually you need to apply for citizenship with at least 6 months left on your green card in order to get the extension. You can ask though. They might give it to you, or they might tell you that you need to apply to renew your green card. Please call the contact center and request to schedule an InfoPass appointment - 1-800-375-5283. The U.S. passport is only for U.S. citizens. You will apply for a U.S. passport after your official naturalization oath ceremony.
@@EssaGroup thanks for the information my green card expires until July 2022, but I'm not sure how behind they are amid covid 19. Like always thank you very much for responding to my question. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. 👍

Essa, I have been a green card holder since the age of about 11. I was born in 1986. My mom was naturalized before I turned 18 years old, and I did not turn 18 until October 11, 2004. Am I correct in thinking that there may be a possibility that I am already a US citizen through the law of derived citizenship? EDIT! - My mom just said that she was not actually naturalized until a couple of months after I turned 18... no hope of me still having derived citizenship right?
Could be, Isco B.!! To determine if you were born a U.S. citizen, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) must look at the law that was in effect at the time of your birth. The current law was enacted on November 14, 1986 and was last amended on February 27, 2001 (Child Citizenship Act). If you were born before November 14, 1986, and believe you may be a U.S. citizen, you should contact USCIS by visiting the USCIS website at www.uscis.gov or calling the USCIS National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283. Hi!! My parents card expired last year and they applied for renewal 6 months before the expiration date. And USCIS gave a letter that allows it to be a legal document along with the expired card, for 12 months after the expiration date. And that is up now. The new cards are still not here.. what can we do?

Hi , I have to renew my green card but I was little confused of my previous information whatever it is on my current green card .How do I copy and paste for renewal?
@laxmanjoshi7332 Hi there! You can renew your green card online by using Form I-90 - www.uscis.gov/i-90 You can also check to see if you are eligible to apply for citizenship.
Hello, My green card expires in october but i want to apply for citizenship. According to the filing wait time it would be 15-19 months in san antonio. Should i just renew my green card first? what can i do? I really dont want to be with an expired document for so long. Thanks!
Hi I got a Question, so I’m in the military and I’m out of the country and my green card might expire before we get back to the us is there a way I can renew it outside the country ?
Hi Noe! Thank you for your service. USCIS has established a toll-free military help line, 877-CIS-4MIL (877-247-4645, TTY 800-877-8339) and e-mail address at militaryinfo@uscis.dhs.gov exclusively for current members of the military and their families, as well as veterans. www.uscis.gov/military/military-help-line If you are a service member or an eligible family member stationed in the U.S. or overseas, you may also access the help line using the toll-free number through their base telephone operator or using the Defense Switched Network (DSN).
I am renewing my expired 10 yr green card this week online...It says I will also be getting an appointment to do the fingerprint and photo again. My question is I am in Northport Florida. Where will they send me to do this ?Will it be Tampa ...Miami ...Fort Myers ?

Hello Maam, I wanted to know if a person has a valid permanent resident green card achieved through family immigration and if that person travels out of US & doesn't visit US for more then 11-months or overstays in his home country for more then 11-months or 1-year does their green card automatically gets cancelled. What options does the people facing such situations have to save their green card and permanent residency status.Remember the green card was renewed in December-2015 for next 10-yrs and this happenned first time that due to sudden and last minute govt decision to demonitize the currency caused tons of problems to citizens back home and govt came with several new laws to put strict restrictions and limits on financial transactions which badly affected many NRIs and Foreign Residents to go back and travel abroad to maintain their legal status and that's one of the main reasons including some immediate property, land and other assets law changed and came into effect due to which my friends brother who went to his home country last time in Dec-2015 after renewing his green card could not come back due to govt emergencies n new laws applied since Oct-Nov-2016 & since he could not return back to US thinking his green card might have got automatically cancelled and he might not be allowed to enter US. Your info and videos are very good and shares really very important information which is very helpful to legal residents.
Hi Ketan. If they have not left yet, they they could obtain a re-entry permit before the trip to allow them to re-enter the US and not lose status. If they are currently in the U.S. after coming back from the trip, they may need to wait five years past the date of the long trip in order to apply for citizenship. If they are still out of the country, they may risk losing their card during re-entry. They may be able to obtain a returning resident visa (SB-1) from a U.S. consulate while abroad though. See here for more information on maintaining permanent residence - www.uscis.gov/green-card/after-green-card-granted/maintaining-permanent-residence#abandoning The best thing to do would be to contact an immigration attorney before proceeding - www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/find-help-your-community
Hi I have a question, due to pandemic my sister wants to go the states with an expired green. Her green card was expired for 1-2 months now. She doesn’t wanna renew it due to the fact that it will take long because of covid. She lives in Guam it’s a US territory. What is the best way to do for her to expedite her wants to be with us in the states.
Hi Blethen Family. Unfortunately, you cannot renew a green card outside of the United States - even in a US territory. If she has been outside the United States for longer than 6 months and has let her green card expire, it is possible that she has abandoned her permanent resident status. She will need to contact the US embassy in Guam - fm.usembassy.gov/ She may be able to request a returning resident visa - fm.usembassy.gov/visas/returning-resident-visa/ If she has been outside the US for less than 6 months, she might be able to fly back (if the airline will allow an expired green card) and renew her green card at customs when she arrives in the US. We advise you to check in with an immigration representative to be sure. Please know that Essa Group is not a law firm, so cannot give legal advice. Please stay safe! I filled the form l-751 in order to remove conditions and get my 10 years permanent resident green card( I did all of this on time... 90 days before my 2 years green card expired) They gave me the letter I-797, Notice of Action, which says I can work and travel while my status is defined. They say If I want to travel I must do it with my expired green card and the letter. My question is how safe is this? I really need to go to my home country and solve some personal issues there, but I'm scared they won't let me in when I try to return.
Hi Monica. The letter is good, but see if they will give you an I-551 stamp in your passport as well. The stamp will extend your green card. Make an appointment here for the stamp - my.uscis.gov/en/appointment/v2
I was in the same situation like you but nothing happen to me. I was in my country with green card expired and the letter I-797 without any problem and i came back to Usa without any problem but depends where you going and what airline you used. I am waiting for my green card 10 months till now and yet i didnt received. I already booked the tickets for Mexico now but to go there i think it’s gotta be tough and i don’t know what to do. I am getting nervous everday...
Hello! Great video, I appreciate the work you put into helping others with issues pertaining to this. I quickly wanted to ask about my own issue if that's okay. So I applied for naturalization and I was denied on the basis that I was already a citizen under my father, who recently gained his citizenship status, months after I turned 18. Now I need a passport and proof of citizenship and I don't know what to do, my green cars is expired, I can't use a foreign birth certificate to prove my heritage to my father, and my twin brother who went through the same process of naturalization was approved perhaps this may even be an error on the other end but I am stuck. Edit: I was 17 at the time he gained citizenship however I do not know how to claim it, since I am 20 now. It is also important to not that my father was not married when I was born overseas.
Hi Sigmund. Sounds like you might be able to file Form N-600 to get your Certificate of Citizenship. If you were under 18 years of age on February 27, 2001, it may be possible to file application N-600 to obtain a Certificate of Citizenship if you meet all of the requirements. www.uscis.gov/n-600 The law is a little tricky, so check in with an immigration attorney. Please see here for local help with filing - www.citizenshipworks.org/findlegalhelp Since USCIS has said that you do qualify, it will be helpful to include all their correspondence with your application. The N-600 is quite expensive, so you may be able to just apply directly for a US passport using your father's Certificate of Naturalization. That would be much cheaper and faster. The N-600 is technically optional, but we highly recommend getting it to have as a backup source of documentation. We can help you with free lawyers if you live in the Washington DC area.
Because of Coronavirus, my mom’s flight is cancelled and she is out of US as of now. Her green card is expiring in two months. What options do we have now and no international flights are taking bookings right now.
Hi Neeharika. Please have her contact the closest US embassy or consulate as soon as possible. They may be able to give her an extension stamp in her passport or paperwork to give to the US port of entry and the airlines if she can't get back before it expires - www.usembassy.gov/ Also - "If you are outside the United States and your Green Card will expire within six months (but you will return within one year of your departure from the United States and before the card expires), you should file Form I-90 as soon as you return to the United States." Please see here to check in with a free or low cost local immigration representative - www.justice.gov/eoir/list-pro-bono-legal-service-providers And here - www.citizenshipworks.org/findlegalhelp An immigration attorney may have more connections/advice. Please keep us posted!! ♥️
Thank you so much. I have a question. I lost my green card and will expire in 10 months. I going to apply citizenship but i have no picture both side of green card. So i going to replace my green card I90 soon do u think i have to renew my green card. ? Replace is cost 550$
Hi Pavinee. Unfortunately, if you lost your Permanent Resident Card, you generally must still file Form I-90 even if you plan to apply for citizenship. You don't need to wait for your new green card to apply for citizenship though. Send in a copy of the I-90 receipt with your N-400 application to let them know you filed for a replacement.
Hi thank you for the info. Question. I am worried about a recent DWI. I had a pretrial diversion and the case was dropped. Is it safe for me to reapply ?
Hi Prickly Pickle! I like your name. It would be best to speak to an immigration attorney because of the DUI. It is more difficult these days with the new administration. Here is a list to help you find someone local. Please speak with an accredited attorney. www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/find-help-your-community
hello Essa i love your video, very informative. my question for you is, my 10 year green card expired in 2015 and its still not renewed i haven't left the country or plan on leaving yet. I wanna know, will it be wise to apply for citizenship or renew my green card before applying.. i know you made mention of it but i just need your professional thoughts on my situation.
Hi there. The official answer from USCIS is that you must renew before applying now. You can renew using form I-90 and then apply for citizenship using a photocopy of the receipt showing that you have filed Form I-90 . This allows you to apply for citizenship while you are renewing so you don't have to wait for the new card before applying. In the past, many people applied with an expired card without an issue, but they seem to be more strict now. Please get another opinion though because it is so expensive to do both. I am not a lawyer. Please see here for help in your community - www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/find-help-your-community
Hi Adam! If you are still living outside the United States, then you most likely have abandoned your legal permanent resident status because you broke the continuous residence and physical presence requirements. If you are currently living in the United States now, then it will depend how many days you have been outside the country during the last five years.

Hi thank you for your helpful videos I have a green card that was expired when I was out of the United States expired on 1212 2018 and I'm still out of the United State so is it easy to renew my green card
Unfortunately, it is not easy to renew outside of the US with an expired green card, especially if you are outside the US for longer than 6 months. Outside the country for longer than one year is often taken as abandoning your permanent resident status. If you are outside of the United States when the card expires and you have not applied for the renewal card prior to your departure, you should contact the nearest U.S. Consulate, USCIS office, or U.S. port of entry before attempting to file Form I-90 for a renewal Green Card - www.usembassy.gov/
Can I get a I551 stamp on my passport when I just received the initial I 797C form or is there anything else that needs to be done before scheduling an infopass appointment
Hi Ricardo. Sometimes they will give you a stamp in your passport or a sticker on your green card if you ask at your biometrics appointment. They will usually do that if you applied 6 months before the expiration of your green card. However, sometimes they will still do it because the backlog is so long. If you don't get it at your biometrics appointment, then you can make the Infopass appointment. After you get a stamp or sticker for extending your PR status, you can use it to travel. However, still bring a copy of your I-797 receipt form.
Hi, thank you for the great information! What if my card expires in September of this year but I plan to travel outside of the US in May for a month, can I still renew once I come back in June from my vacation? Or is it best to renew before my vacation in May?
Hi Leanne. It is recommended to renew your green card with at least six months left, so it would be best to renew now, before traveling in May. You will probably not receive your new green card before May, but you will be eligible to receive an extension stamp or letter for future travel while you wait. If you are eligible to apply for citizenship, now would be the time to do that instead of renewing. The cost of the citizenship application will increase significantly soon. 👍
Essa Group thank you for replying back! I’m just worried that if I apply now, I am applying too early that my application will be denied. If I wait for the 6 months before it expire, I would then apply in March, however I’m worried that my biometric appt will be scheduled in May when I plan to leave ?
If you have been a LPR for 4 years and 9 months (or 2 years and 9 months if married to a US citizen), then you should be able to apply for citizenship. You can apply 90 days early. The biometrics usually happens about two weeks after applying. That part is very fast. Here is the early filing calculator. Put your anniversary (5 year or 3 year) date in and it will tell you when you can apply.
Hello I failed form I 751 over 5 month I was send it to taxes service center but they transferred to Vermont service center .....and when I talk to USCIS they tell me couldn't help me to get any information ....and I still I didn't get any response from or biometric appointment ...and I want to renew my driver license and my green card is expired ...so what I have to do even to renew my driver license .... Thanks
Hi Maysa Kat. So sorry for your troubles. You will need to talk to an immigration attorney. I am not sure what is going on. Helllo my card expires on the 22nd of this month. I am waiting to get my next pay check . It won' been until the end of theomonth sadly. Will I still be able to extend it at that time?
Hi LetMedrive Mayne. You can renew your green card at any time, even after it expires. You continue to be a legal permanent resident even if your green card expires. It is a good idea to always have a unexpired, valid card though. Please use Form I-90 to renew. www.uscis.gov/i-90 After you apply to renew your green card, your "Receipt Letter" (Form I-797C) will serve as an extension until you get your new card. You can also use your Form I-90 Receipt Letter to apply for citizenship using Form N-400 (if eligible). 👍♥️
Hello, My green card expired a few weeks ago, but I’m interested in filling for my citizenship. Can i still go ahead and fill the N-400 and send the payment with an expired green card, since i am still a lawful permanent resident of the US. ?? Thank you for your answer.
Hi Anyelis. This has gotten a bit more complicated with the Trump administration. The OFFICIAL answer from USCIS is that you must submit Form I-90 (for renewal or replacement) first and then apply for citizenship with the N400. You don’t need to wait for your new card in order to file the N400. You can use the receipt from the I-90 to show you filed that first. You would then put a copy of the receipt in with the N400 application. That said, many people have successfully filed the N400 with an expired green card. Prior administrations have not really been as strict as the Trump administration with this situation. So, in the end, it is really up to the discretion of your particular field office at this point. Some offices are accepting the N400 with the expired green card, but some field offices are requiring that you file the I-90 first. Ours is accepting the N400, but then still requiring payment for the I-90 as well. Citizenship Works will help you fill out your application and answer all legal questions. Hello, I have had to temporary move back to the UK whilst waiting for my SSDI to be processed. I had run out of money and could no longer stay where I was. I have traumatic amnesia following a seizure in 2017. My SSDI has come through and I would like to return, however, my permanent residency card expired January 7th 2019. What can I do to renew it? Thank you
So sorry for your troubles, Emma. That sounds terrible! You will need to go to your closest US Embassy or Consulate. Please see here - uk.usembassy.gov/ What happens may depend on how long you have been out of the United States.
If your green card expires in a month and the coronavirus is still going do u know if we are going to have available a extension since the goverment things are closed
Hi Arturo. You are technically supposed to renew at least six months before your expiration date. You can renew now, or apply directly for citizenship if you are eligible. If your card expires, you can use your I-90 renewal receipt or your N-400 naturalization application receipt to show that you have applied and are currently waiting. When the offices open back up, you can ask to see if they will give you an extension letter, an extension stamp in your passport, or an extension sticker for your green card while you wait. You will need to make an InfoPass appointment through the 800 number to do that. Call after you apply to set up an appointment for this summer - once things return to normal. You can also ask at your biometrics appointment for the extension. They may give it to you at the biometrics appt, but usually only if you applied with the 6 months left on you GC. Times are a changin though, so they may start making exceptions. You can also ask a direct question through your online account once you set that up. Secure questions can be asked through the "Send a Message" link under the "Resources" tab on the right side. This is often easier than trying to call the 800 number. 👍 Good luck and keep us posted. Stay safe! ♥️
I appreciate the information you have provided in the video. My question to you is in regards to employment and in process of applying for citizenship. I have an expired permanent resident green card and had to send in the card and the n400 paperwork for citizenship to the Government agency. Is there any was to ask for, or provide, proof to prospective employers that my residency is in transition to citizenship?
Hi there. You can usually show your N400 application receipt notice (or your I-90 receipt notice) to show that you have applied for citizenship and are waiting for USCIS to process, but it depends on your employer if they will accept it. You can also get an appointment from USCIS on InfoPass - my.uscis.gov/appointment - and see if you can get an extension stamp (I-551) in your passport. They will also do this sometimes at your biometrics appointment if your card is not yet expired when you go. You should actually still have your card. Just send in a copy with the N-400 or I-90. See here for more resources - www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/find-help-your-community
Hi Enrique. You should not have any problems as long as you have your receipt letter and the extension stamp in your passport or the extension sticker on your green card. Please check here to see if there is anything else you might need - www.citizenshipworks.org/findlegalhelp
Hi Mariela. You cannot travel on an expired green card. You will most likely need to renew your green card first. You can renew online with the I-90 form. www.uscis.gov/i-90 You can request an extension stamp in your passport by calling the USCIS customer service line and asking for an InfoPass appointment to go into your field office. However, each field office is a little different. You might not be eligible for a stamp if you did not renew (or apply directly for citizenship using form N-400) with at least 6 months left on your green card. You will need to ask your specific field office. You might be able to travel with just your I-90 receipt (Form I-797C), but you would need to double check with USCIS first. Please know that Essa Group is not a law firm, so cannot give legal advice. Please stay safe! I forgot to mention I’m planning to travel with a expired green card but with my I-797C form . My conditional resident status is extended for 18 months.
Ah. If you already have a valid, legal extension for a conditional green card then you should be fine as long as you don't stay away too long and don't miss any interviews (if needed). Please be sure you have already done your biometrics as well. If your I-751 gets denied while you are outside the country, you might have trouble re-entering. If your extension letter is in danger of expiring, you can usually get an I-551 extension stamp in your passport by calling the USCIS customer service line and asking for an InfoPass appointment. Note: If you have had your conditional green card for 2 years and 9 months AND you have been married to a US citizen for at least 3 years, you might be able to apply directly for citizenship (Form N-400) while your I-751 is pending. 👍 Please remember EssaGroup is not a law firm. Please see links in previous reply for free, legal help - especially to double check information BEFORE leaving the country. Please stay safe! ♥️
Hello, can I still apply for a U.S citizenship with an expired green card, or did they change that. Also do I need to mail in my expired green card if I have to renew it, if I’m mailing my application. Thank you
Hi Maher Ali. Right now, the official word from USCIS is that you should have a valid, unexpired green card in order to apply for citizenship. You can renew your green card right online with Form I-90, or you can send in a I-90 paper form. If you use a paper form, you do not need to send in your expired green card. The receipt letter they send you in the mail will extend your green card for 12 months. You can file for citizenship using your expired green card and your receipt letter showing that you sent for a renewal.

Hi thanks for this informative video, i am not sure if you can assist me but i will still ask. I recently enlisted in the US Army and i should be going to basic training in February. I am worried because my (2 year green card expires three days before my ship date). I already started the process of renewing but i haven’t gotten any mail as yet. My recruiter does not seem to understand the serious nature of my situation and so I’m trying to get answers everywhere i can. I asked if i could get my date pushed for later as i am worried if i show up with an expired card i will be turned back. Can you please give me your advice? Thank you .
Hi Mick Ella. Thank you for serving. Sounds like you need an extension stamp in your passport while you wait for the conditions to be removed from your green card. You'll need an InfoPass appointment for this. USCIS has a toll-free military help line, 877-CIS-4MIL and e-mail address at militaryinfo@uscis.dhs.gov This is separate from the regular USCIS helpline, so the representatives that answer should be able to let you know what else might be needed for your situation, esp regarding moving with the military. Please ask them to set up an InfoPass appointment for you so you can go in and speak directly to an officer. The officer can give you an extension stamp in your passport or a sticker for your green card. www.uscis.gov/military/military-help-line You can also always send a direct message through your online account. The send message link is under the Resources tab on the right side after you log in. Good luck and please keep us posted!
Essa Group i received my 18months extension in the mail yesterday. USCIS called this morning to set up the appointment but when i told them about the letter the person was happy i received it. I am relieved to be honest. I ship in less than two weeks so now i can enjoy the rest of my time home with my family without being stressed. Thank you also for the information you provided to me.
🙌Excellent news, Mick Ella!! SO glad that got sorted out and you don't need to worry about it! Have a wonderful time with your family - and get lots of rest before basic! 💪
is the greencard still valid for u to work if u have the 1 year extension sticker on the expired card? I'm waiting for them to approve of renewal and send a new one but I'm not sure if I can legally work or not..
Yes, the extension sticker on your green card or extension stamp in your passport should allow you to continue to work in the U.S. However, new employers may need to re-verify your status with the I-90 form. If you are working for the same employer when your card expires, your current employer should not need to re-verify your status. I was issued an immigration F43 visa and a permanent resident card in 2000. That expired in 2010. I am going back to the US to study. I am filing for a student F1 visa. Will that be a problem? And can the green card be renewed?

Hi Essa Group, My green card is going to expire in December of this year (10 years green card) and I have already applied for citizenship in March, the estimated finish time of the case in June 2019, leaving me a 6 months windows of an expired green card. Should I even consider to apply for I90?
Hi Jeff. You should not need to renew. Since you applied early enough, they should be able to give you an extension stamp. (I-551). Please contact your field office (InfoPass) to see about getting a stamp, or you can try calling the 800 number to ask, or send an email through your online account or through here - my.uscis.gov/account/v1/needhelp :)

I didn’t realize that my green card expired in 2017 so I applied for citizenship back then. I’ve been waiting over a year and when I login to view my case it says that it will be completed in Jan 2019. I have recently been informed that my company is laying off a number of us. I now have to find a job.. I know e-verify works for me but if they want to see my green card I’m screwed. I went to the USCIS to ask them to stamp my British passport with something that is written saying that I’m ok but the guy refused and offered me to apply to renew my green card. I did so and paid them the last of my savings and now realized that I might not get that or my citizenship in time either. I think the only thing I can do is plead my case to the potential employer and hope they go with the e-verify only and see my open cases with the USCIS.
Hi Duncan. Since you applied to renew your green card, they should now give you the temporary extension stamp in your passport. It will be good for a year. They couldn't give the stamp since your green card was expired. You had to apply first and then bring the receipt notice to them to get the stamp. You can use the stamp in your passport to travel. Also - your new employer may not ask specifically to see your green card. That is illegal. You can present other documents. Know your rights. www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/employee-rights-discrimination/employee-rights If your employer insists on proof of your green card, rather than accepting other documents such as your social security card and driver’s license, then it may be violating anti-discrimination laws. Here is the list of acceptable documents - www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/acceptable-documents/list-documents/form-i-9-acceptable-documents
Duncan Cunningham uscis is bullshit, after you file the application to renew your green card you can make an info pass appointment and have them stamp your passport. I got citizenship denied twice in Los Angeles then moved to a free state and got it in flying colors. Try not to live in a communist state.
@@rfinna8029 Hi RFinna. Existing employers should not require a new green card or need to re-verify a green card. Even if your green card expired while working for the employer, the original submission on I-9 should still stand as proof of status. Your status as a legal permanent resident does not change if your green card expires. You are still a legal permanent resident with the same work authorization. However, it is very hard to get a new job with an expired card because the new employer will be required to verify your identity and your work authorization. Please see here if you need legal help - www.citizenshipworks.org/findlegalhelp
I renew my green card 6 months before expiration, and been done my biometrics. No changes on my case status since my biometrics. Its been 8 months now. Do i wait for more?
Hi Josette. The processing time for a green card renewal right now is 11.5 - 13 months. egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/ If your green card is now expired, please send them a message through your online account. They may be able to send you an extension letter to put with your green card. Sometimes they allow the receipt number from the I-797C, Notice of Action receipt letter to be used as an extension as well.
Essa Group I have a follow up question for you. You mentioned that the processing time for renewal of.green card takes 11.5 to 13 months. Can I renew my green card before 6 months of expiration to avoid inconvenience?
Yes. You can renew earlier. However, if you have at least 6 months left on your green card, you may be eligible to file directly for citizenship instead though. That would save a lot of money!
Essa Group I see, so for me to be able to file for citizenship. I have to wait 6 months before my green card expires? I appreciate answering my inquiries.
Hi Lory. You can apply for citizenship as soon as you are eligible. Usually that means 5 years as a permanent resident or 3 years as a permanent resident married to a U.S. citizen. Apply as soon as you are eligible. Fees will be going up! Excellent video. I would like to comment my situation just in case ypu could help me, it would be of much help. My green card expired and im currently outside of the US. Is it possible to enter the country with an expired green card and renew it? 1 year after it expires?
Hi Carlos. That's a tricky one. You'll need to visit your US Embassy or Consulate in your area - travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/list-of-posts.html You may be able to get a boarding foil for the airline in order to travel. Once in the US, Customs and Border Patrol may make you file an I-90 and pay the $540 fee at the airport.
Hey so I’m currently in the military and I just realized that my green card expired. My question how many months do I have to renew my green card before they start penalizing me?
Hey Max. Thank you for your service. 🇺🇸 You should not be penalized for an expired green card. You are still a legal permanent resident, even if your green card is expired. You might be eligible to file directly for citizenship instead of renewing your green card. There is an established a toll-free military help line, 877-CIS-4MIL (877-247-4645, TTY 800-877-8339) and e-mail address at militaryinfo@uscis.dhs.gov exclusively for current members of the military and their families, as well as veterans. Representatives are available to answer calls Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central, excluding federal holidays. 👍
Please remember you cannot travel with an expired green card. There are different rules for the military though, especially if you are stationed abroad. We encourage you to file for citizenship if you are eligible (and then request an extension on your green card). Active military have special rules and usually the process is faster. We are not familiar with all the military requirements, so it is best to give that military line a call. The official word from USCIS is that according to the law, you must always have a current green card, so they will probably tell you to renew or apply for citizenship. Even though that is the law, you don't lose your permanent residence with an expired card, but it could turn into a headache and cause a lot paperwork problems. Our best, and again, thank you fro serving.
Hello Essa Group ! Thank you so much for all the informations you provided. I’m currently living in Seoul, Korea with my husband because we have military ordered, we will be living here until May 2019 and my 10 years green card is expired. What should I do, please help me.
Hi Thien. There is an established a toll-free military help line, 877-CIS-4MIL (877-247-4645) specifically for citizenship and green card questions, and e-mail address at militaryinfo@uscis.dhs.gov exclusively for current members of the military and their families as well as veterans. Members of the U.S. armed forces and their families stationed in the U.S. or overseas may access the help line using the toll-free number through their base telephone operator or using the Defense Switched Network (DSN). This is exclusively for military and their family members. They should be able to help you with applying for citizenship or renewing your green card overseas.
@@emmanueljoseph842 It may be considered that you abandoned your status, so it's a little bit tricky. I have a 10 yrs PR. Is there anyway you can give me a hotline so I can talk to a personnel. Cause I renewed my permanent card but I haven’t got it. It’s been almost 2 yrs now. I went to the nearest post office here where I live when I got the letter from the immigration, but when I ask them about my card that was sent to them by the IMMIGRATION they told me it never sent to them. All I want is someone I can talk to preferably a person not a machine. So I can process or make an appointment. I’m in desperate to have my card so I can apply for a different job.

Hi Essa, I applied for citizenship in May 2020 and they have acknowledged receipt of it. My green card expires January 31, 2021. Do I need to renew my green card before they invite me for Biometrics and citizenship interview? Please, help. I am nervous.
Hi Augustina. No worries. You do not need to renew your green card. Please bring your passport to your biometrics appointment with your green card, state ID, and appointment notice. You can ask for an extension stamp in your passport. The extension stamp will extend your green card for another 18 months. They may be able to do this at your biometrics appointment, or they may tell you to make an appointment with your field office closer to the expiration date on your green card. 👍

My parents live in Pakistan and there Green Cards expired in March 2018 and they still in Pakistan. Did they renew there green card here in Pakistan because they want to go back to USA. Did they travel with expired green card??? Please must reply with detail.
That's a bit tricky. It may depend how long they have been outside the country. If they have been outside the country for too long (over a year) and did not retain ties to the US, it could be difficult to renew. That means that they have broken continuous residence and may have abandoned their permanent residence status. However, if they were outside the US for less than one year and if they can prove that they did not obtain employment while abroad, that their immediate family remained in the US, and they retained full access to their US home, then that would be very helpful for their case. Please contact the US Embassy in Pakistan - www.usembassy.gov/pakistan/ or an immigration lawyer - www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/find-help-your-community
Good evening, my friends green card expired while on vacation. He was unable to travel due to healtj complication before it expired. Now he is stuck abroad, he did the I90 what else can he do?
It really depends on the location. Please contact your nearest embassy - www.usembassy.gov/ Depending where he is located, they may be able to file form I-131A or request a "boarding foil" for him if he has been out of the country for less than one year and has a ten year green card.
Hello. My mother's greencard expired 11 years ago and she's outside of the country. Can she still renew or do I need to petition her again to come to the US? I'm a US citizen.
Hi John. I don't think she can renew while outside the country. I have to mail in an i-90 form for my mom but I don't see an address on the form do you know the adress Google gives me an Arizona adress I'm in California please help
If you submit a paper I-90 application, send it to: For U.S. Postal Service (USPS): USCIS P.O. Box 21262 Phoenix, AZ 85036 For FedEx, UPS, and DHL deliveries: USCIS Attention: I-90 1820 E. Skyharbor, Circle S, Floor 1 Suite 100 Phoenix, AZ 85034 Please see here under "Where to File" in the center of the page. www.uscis.gov/i-90 You can also file directly online if you are not requesting a fee waiver.
Traveling without a green card is much too risky. You will not be allowed back into the US without proof of permanent residence status. You will need to renew your green card first. While waiting for your new green card, you can request a temporary I-551 stamp in your passport. This should allow you to travel outside the country without your actual green card (although having the green card is always best). To request a temporary stamp, you will need to bring your I-90 receipt to your local field office. You can make an InfoPass appointment here - my.uscis.gov/en/appointment/v2
Please see here under "What Documents Do I Need to Present to Reenter the US" - www.uscis.gov/green-card/after-green-card-granted/international-travel-permanent-resident

However, the official response from USCIS is that you need an unexpired green card to apply. They do give special privileges to military members and families though. Please call the military line to ask.
Can you do an extention to stay if your conditional green card is expired and you are still in the process of renewing for the permanant recidence in order to continue working with your current employer?
Hi Itzayana. If you are a conditional green card holder and you've filed Form I-751 www.uscis.gov/i-751 90 days before expiration on your card, then the receipt notice for the I-751 should serve as your extension (usually for 12 months). During your biometrics, the officer may stamp your passport with an I-551 stamp that shows extension of status. If your employer needs further proof, then you may need to schedule an InfoPass appointment with your field office - my.uscis.gov/appointment
Hi Chrissy. You should be able to travel with the extension letter, but I don't think you can travel with an expired passport. You will most likely need to renew your passport. The extension letter with the expired green card can sometimes be tricky, especially if the airlines are not familiar with the document. People sometimes experience delays because the airline people may need to confirm the letter. Please check in with an immigration lawyer before traveling - www.citizenshipworks.org/findlegalhelp
Hi there I am renewing my expired green card I have permanent resident also and I have to travel back to my country of origin can you get a temporary green card while it is processing so I could travel
Hi Michael. You need to get a temporary I-551 stamp in your passport. Contact InfoPass and schedule an appointment - my.uscis.gov/en/appointment/v2 Bring your I-90 receipt to the appointment. You can also ask for one at your biometrics appointment.
@@michaelmadsen6145 Excellent! Let them know you need to travel and hopefully they will give you one at the appointment. If your green card is already expired, they may tell you to make an InfoPass appointment. Try to get it at biometrics though, since it is sometimes difficult to get an InfoPass appt. Biometrics will sometimes make exceptions if you need to travel because of a family emergency.
@@EssaGroup one of the issues I have is that I lost my green card as we have moved 4 times I'm sure it's somewhere in a box but it also expired and I could only choose one of the two so I chose to renew.perhaps I should contact somebody and let them know that my card is also lost as they did request for my biometric appointment to bring my old green card..... What a mess! And it's all on me....
@@michaelmadsen6145 You have already filed the I-90 to renew, which is the same form for a lost green card - so now just hope to get the temporary stamp in your passport. For InfoPass, bring your valid, unexpired passport, I-90 receipt notice, proof of residence, biometrics receipt, and any other USCIS documents or receipts. Fingers crossed! Keep us posted. :)

Under the federal Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), you may be eligible to become a lawful permanent resident (get a Green Card) if you are the victim of battery or extreme cruelty. I was laid off in April from my job. I have an expired resident card when applying for a new job. I already e-file the I-90 on the website in April 30 I finally got my receipt notice of action stating that they will send me a letter for biometrics but I was wondering how can I apply for a job now or do I need to wait for my green card. My passport is also expired.
HI Andres. You are still a lawful permanent resident, however, yes, it is very difficult to apply for a new job with an expired green card. New employers are required by law to check identity and employment authorization. The best bet is to see if USCIS will issue you an extension letter or extension sticker for your green card. This will extend your green card by 18 months while you wait for your new card. Usually they will only give those if you apply with 6 months left on your card, however because of Covid19, they are making many exceptions. An employer may be able to accept the receipt of your I-90 application as proof of identity and work eligibility. Typically your receipt is valid for 90 days. That will give you 90 days to wait to see if you can get that extension letter. www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/acceptable-documents/receipts Please send a message directly through your online account or by calling the customer service line - www.uscis.gov/contactcenter Good luck and keep us posted!! 👍
Essa Group I’m sorry if I am being goofy but what receipt you mention the one I got that states I will be getting a appointment for biometrics the receipt of notice?
Essa Group do you mean Form 1-797C, Notice of Action receipt that I received for I-90 application? I emailed USCIS thru my online account for an extension letter
Hi Andres. Yes, Form I-797C, Notice of Action with your 10 digit receipt number on it. You can use your receipt number to check your case status online here - egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do
Hi Jannele Avila. Here are the docs you need to bring in - www.dps.texas.gov/internetforms/Forms/DL-32.pdf On this form, it does not say anything about an expired green card. However, if you look at the website here it says, "(Documents may be expired unless otherwise noted.)" www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/LawfulStatusDLID.htm So, bottom line - not sure - since they are not clear with their wording. Assuming you can try to see if they'll put your A-number through the SAVE system. You are still an LPR, even if your green card is expired. That said - you should renew as soon as possible, as it is technically illegal to not have a valid green card. The Real ID law for new driver's licenses states that you must have a valid, unexpired green card. We are in Maryland and cannot apply with an expired card. You can renew your green card online and then use the receipt letter to go in to your USCIS filed office and receive an I-551 extension stamp in your unexpired foreign passport. Or, sometimes they will give you a sticker for your green card or an extension letter. Your green card will then be extended and valid for a driver's license. Call the USICS 800 number and ask for an InfoPass appointment to get the extension. Good luck and keep us posted. 👍

Older Green Cards or Those Without Expiration Dates
Green cards issued between 1979 and August 1989 do not have expiration dates and do not need to be renewed unless you wish to use Global Entry kiosks at international airports in the U.S. you will have to get a replacement card.
See USCIS for more information. help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/75/kw/i-551%20without%20expiration%20date

Hi i just noticed that form i-90 online version expires on 7/31/2019
but there's no newer version
so how can send that form if it's expired on the USCIS website?
thanks!

temporary I-551 passport stamp or sticker on your green card is usually better.

Essa Group thanks so much for your help :)
If CBP grants you admission to the US when you arrive, then you will become a legal permanent resident. travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/interview/after-the-interview.html

Some examples include, you must pay your taxes every year and you should not travel outside the country for an extended amount of time (6 months or longer at one time.).
I was charged with 2c:35-10a1 and obstruction they both got amended to 171-11a. I would like to know if I should be worried or not and why? I don’t know what 171-11a means also. I would like to renew my PR card when the time comes.

In order to become a U.S. citizen, you will typically need five full years of what USCIS calls "Good Moral Character." This generally means that you should not have any crimes/arrests/legal problems on your record for the last five years before you apply to become a citizen. There are many rules regarding which crimes are considered serious, or which crimes are considered less serious. If would be best to check in with an immigration lawyer about your case to be safe. Some crimes are deportable, so you want to ask a lawyer before filing any applications with USCIS.

My green card has expired one year and am outside the u.s three years... how can I renter the United States?
Hi Shawn. You may have abandoned your permanent resident status. Please contact your closest embassy or consulate - www.usembassy.gov/
Hello, and thankyou for all.the great info
My permanent resident expired about a month ago I already paid and had the biometrics appointment but need the a passport and a I 551 stamp to apply for a job. I the process of receiving an appoint and getting the stamp long?
Hi ARCE. It just depends on your field office. You will need to call the 800 number and schedule an InfoPass appointment to go in for the extension stamp. 👍
Hello I passed the interview it was way easier than I expected thank you
@@freddyamaya327 Excellent news, Alfredo!! Congratulations! I hope you have your oath ceremony before you move now!
Thank you. Yes am hoping it might be on the 23rd of May.
Hello! I have a bit of a dilemma and wondering if you could help? Was scheduled to travel within the US next week and just now noticing my green card (which was issued 2008) expired on 2020 AND my regular California ID (not the real ID yet) expires during my stay in the other state, would be returning back to Cali a couple days after the expiration date on the card- can I still travel? THank you so much!
Hi Luz. Do you have another form of photo ID that is not expired, such as a passport? You usually need a valid (non-expired) form of photo ID to get through security at the airport. However, On the TSA website, it says that expired licenses will be accepted up to one year after expiration. Please see here under "Expired ID" for more information - www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification
I would bring the passport as backup, just in case though. 👍❤️
@@EssaGroup I totally dropped the ball and my passport is also expired:/ Would renewing my regular ID help to at least show I'm waiting for the new one?
Hi Luz. You can try renewing your driver's license and get the Real ID, however....you might need a valid, unexpired green card in order to get the new driver's license. It depends on your state requirements for which documents will be accepted. You might need to first renew your green card before you can get the Real ID. Please see here for your state's Real ID required documents - www.dhs.gov/real-id
@@EssaGroup For time being I've renewed my basic (non real-ID) online and will take the receipt with me when traveling along with my current ID which is about to expire in a week, will definitely make it a point to renew my green card and passport once I get back then later the real ID once I have the updated documentation; thank goodness I'm just traveling domestically. Thank you for your help:)

Can someone help me my dad is in NY i want to Come to but my green card expired in 2011 i went to Embassy in my country but covid close Everywhere. Can i Just fly will they let me in
It is difficult to say for how long or if CBP will allow you to enter. Please know that Essa Group is not a law firm, so cannot give legal advice. Please see below for any legal questions and/or concerns. Maybe you can contact a lawyer or immigration representative near your dad in NY. :

It may depend how long you have been outside the country. Less than 6 months is best. How long have you been outside the country?
If you got stuck outside the country because of COVID, they may just ask you to renew your green card at the border. Basically file the I-90 to renew and pay the fee. You cannot do this outside the country.
Many different scenarios here based on your situation.
It also depends on the mood of the CBP officer you get tbh - much is left up to the discretion of the officer.
To get the 551 stamp what do I need I have my passport and my recipe and they going to use my old biometric.
Hi Salinas Pooks. It depends when you filed your N-400. If you filed your N-400 with at least 6 months left on your green card, they may be able to give you the 551 extension stamp at your biometrics appointment. If they re-use your biometrics because of COVID, then you may need to request an InfoPass appointment in order to ask for the extension. You will need to call the contact center in order to schedule an appointment. USCIS Contact Center. Dial 1-800-375-5283
Yes - you will need your passport, green card, state id, and receipt letter - plus anything else they might tell you to bring. 👍
my green card expired 2016 so on may 2017 I renew my green card..i did my fingerprint they extended my green card expiration till Feb 2018 but until now my new green card is not done yet.i called them & ask bout my status they just told me that right now they still in process for nov.2016...i ask them I can have a letter from uscis prove that my paper still on process so that I can get a job.she said they cannot do that...so what shall I do...
They should be able to extend your green card. Sometimes they will only do it one time if you file for renewal after the first one is expired. Try to schedule an appointment with your field office here to go in to ask in person - my.uscis.gov/appointment
I think she needs it as a proof that she is qualified to work while not yet a citizen. Employers are careful about this when hiring.

I'm a bit nervous because I never changed my address ever ,ever with homeland!

Hmmm....not sure about this one. 🙏🤞🤞♥️ Keep us posted!
Good morning and thank you for the information. What if you are already working with insurance licenses for a company and the card expires while already employed? Can the expiration cause a red flag to pop up are cause any holds on the licenses?
Or cause any holds... sorry
The official response from USCIS is that you need to renew your green card before applying for citizenship.
Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is updating the USCIS Policy Manual to allow USCIS to automatically extend the validity of Permanent Resident Cards (commonly called Green Cards) for lawful permanent residents who have applied for naturalization." More information here: www.uscis.gov/newsroom/alerts/uscis-updates-policy-to-automatically-extend-green-cards-for-naturalization-applicants
Check the language used on your N-400 receipt.
Hi Sammy. If you were a legal permanent resident, under the age of 18, and living with your father in the US when he became a US citizen, then you might already be a citizen. 👍

Please look here for legal help - www.citizenshipworks.org/findlegalhelp and here - www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/find-help-your-community
Let us know if you are in the Washington DC metro area.
My green card was issued to me 38 years ago without time limit?therefore it does not have an expiration date, should I go get it renewed? If so, how much is the charge? Thanks.
Hi Vent Des Iles. Yes. If you have a previous version of the Alien Registration Card (for example, USCIS Form AR-3, Form AR-103 or Form I-151, which are no longer valid to prove your immigration status) you should replace it with a current Green Card. www.uscis.gov/forms/explore-my-options/renew-or-replace-my-green-card
The current fee to renew is $455, Plus $85 for biometrics if needed. - www.uscis.gov/feecalculator
Before you renew your green card, you might like to consider applying for U.S. citizenship instead. You can check here for your citizenship eligibility - www.uscis.gov/citizenship-resource-center/learn-about-citizenship/naturalization-eligibility
Hi Vent. You might also want to consider applying for citizenship instead of renewing your green card. Here is some information about applying for citizenship:
You can file USCIS forms yourself, including Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, which can be submitted online. However, some people choose to seek assistance from a lawyer or Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR)-accredited representative.

Thank u SO much for all u do. Your videos are VERY helpful. I have a few questions so far and would really appreciate your answers:
1) in one place I saw that one CAN file & pay for n400 ONLINE but in this video u said one can't.
Essa Group thank u so much!
Select your state from the dropdown menu - www.nass.org/can-I-vote/voter-registration-status
Just be sure you don't actually register.

Hello, If I filled out the I90 form for my wife. Is that consider I am an interpreter? Do I have to fill out any other form besides that I90?
Hi Ngoc. If you translated the entire form for your wife and read every question to her in her native language, then you are the interpreter. Remember she must still understand the entire form. If your wife speaks English and understands the form, but you just helped her fill out the form, then you are her preparer. You can also be both.

HI Lola! Please call the customer service line at 1-800-375-5283. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm Eastern. Say, "InfoPass Appointment" when the system asks why you are calling. Ask the representative to please schedule an InfoPass Appointment for your parents to go into the field office in order to get extension stamps in their passports. 👍❤️
Thanks!
Renew your card very important you can not get citizenship without a valid green card. If you need more info let me know
Hi I got a Question, so I’m in the military and I’m out of the country and my green card might expire before we get back to the us is there a way I can renew it outside the country ?
Hi Noe! Thank you for your service. USCIS has established a toll-free military help line, 877-CIS-4MIL (877-247-4645, TTY 800-877-8339) and e-mail address at militaryinfo@uscis.dhs.gov exclusively for current members of the military and their families, as well as veterans. www.uscis.gov/military/military-help-line
If you are a service member or an eligible family member stationed in the U.S. or overseas, you may also access the help line using the toll-free number through their base telephone operator or using the Defense Switched Network (DSN).
I am renewing my expired 10 yr green card this week online...It says I will also be getting an appointment to do the fingerprint and photo again. My question is I am in Northport Florida. Where will they send me to do this ?Will it be Tampa ...Miami ...Fort Myers ?

Hello Maam,
I wanted to know if a person has a valid permanent resident green card achieved through family immigration and if that person travels out of US & doesn't visit US for more then 11-months or overstays in his home country for more then 11-months or 1-year does their green card automatically gets cancelled.
See here for more information on maintaining permanent residence - www.uscis.gov/green-card/after-green-card-granted/maintaining-permanent-residence#abandoning
The best thing to do would be to contact an immigration attorney before proceeding - www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/find-help-your-community
She will need to contact the US embassy in Guam - fm.usembassy.gov/
She may be able to request a returning resident visa - fm.usembassy.gov/visas/returning-resident-visa/
If she has been outside the US for less than 6 months, she might be able to fly back (if the airline will allow an expired green card) and renew her green card at customs when she arrives in the US.

If you were under 18 years of age on February 27, 2001, it may be possible to file application N-600 to obtain a Certificate of Citizenship if you meet all of the requirements. www.uscis.gov/n-600
The law is a little tricky, so check in with an immigration attorney.
They may be able to give her an extension stamp in her passport or paperwork to give to the US port of entry and the airlines if she can't get back before it expires - www.usembassy.gov/
Also - "If you are outside the United States and your Green Card will expire within six months (but you will return within one year of your departure from the United States and before the card expires), you should file Form I-90 as soon as you return to the United States."

Is it safe for me to reapply ?

hello Essa i love your video, very informative. my question for you is, my 10 year green card expired in 2015 and its still not renewed i haven't left the country or plan on leaving yet.
My green card expired 2004 while I was living outside of USA, is it possible to renew it ? If yes, how? I'm waiting for your answer thanks

You going to need a good lawyer, you abandoned your status, that was a terrible mistake
Thank you so much
Can I get a I551 stamp on my passport when I just received the initial I 797C form or is there anything else that needs to be done before scheduling an infopass appointment
However, still bring a copy of your I-797 receipt form.
hi my residence card has been expierd for 8 years
what do i need to do to renew it
@@manuelgonzalez9714 Please renew online here - www.uscis.gov/i-90 You will need to upload a copy of your expired card.

Hello,
My green card expired a few weeks ago, but I’m interested in filling for my citizenship.

My green card does not have an expiration date. Can I apply for U.S. Citizenship?
@@rosalindbauer3455 Yes. You can apply with your current green card. USCIS may ask you to file for renewal if it is an invalid version though.
People need reliable info like this
Thanks, Karl!
Good luck and keep us posted. Stay safe!

My grenn card expired and i renew it already and got a 1 year extension, can i go to mexico and come back with no problems
Hi Enrique. You should not have any problems as long as you have your receipt letter and the extension stamp in your passport or the extension sticker on your green card. Please check here to see if there is anything else you might need - www.citizenshipworks.org/findlegalhelp
Hello how can we get the extension stamp in our passport ? Planning to travel with my expired green card
Hi Mariela. You cannot travel on an expired green card. You will most likely need to renew your green card first. You can renew online with the I-90 form. www.uscis.gov/i-90
You can request an extension stamp in your passport by calling the USCIS customer service line and asking for an InfoPass appointment to go into your field office.

Also - we have seen people apply for citizenship with an expired green card without a problem, but we'd advise you to check in with an immigration representative first. USCIS Form N-400 is the Application for Naturalization - www.uscis.gov/n-400

It is a good idea to have an immigration lawyer or an accredited BIA representative check your application BEFORE applying. When applying for any immigration benefit, non-citizens identify themselves to the government and invite scrutiny. USCIS will review your entire immigrant file - not just your N-400 application. *Please know that Essa Group is not a law firm, so cannot give legal advice.* ♥️
If you file directly online, be sure to PRINT your "draft case snapshot" pdf BEFORE submitting payment. Be sure the draft case snapshot does not have any errors. The applicant must have resided in the state for at least three months prior to filing. The online system does not flag for this error.* Video for online filing is here - ruclips.net/video/YNtWN8jRWNg/видео.html

Really depends on the full situation. However, in general, you would typically need to wait a full five years past the conviction in order to pass the "Good Moral Character" requirement. Please have an immigration lawyer take a look at your specific case before applying.

USCIS has a toll-free military help line, 877-CIS-4MIL and e-mail address at militaryinfo@uscis.dhs.gov
This is separate from the regular USCIS helpline, so the representatives that answer should be able to let you know what else might be needed for your situation, esp regarding moving with the military.
Please ask them to set up an InfoPass appointment for you so you can go in and speak directly to an officer. The officer can give you an extension stamp in your passport or a sticker for your green card.

You can also always send a direct message through your online account. The send message link is under the Resources tab on the right side after you log in. Good luck and please keep us posted!
Essa Group thank you so much for replying and i will keep you posted.
Essa Group thank you!
is the greencard still valid for u to work if u have the 1 year extension sticker on the expired card? I'm waiting for them to approve of renewal and send a new one but I'm not sure if I can legally work or not..
Yes, the extension sticker on your green card or extension stamp in your passport should allow you to continue to work in the U.S. However, new employers may need to re-verify your status with the I-90 form. If you are working for the same employer when your card expires, your current employer should not need to re-verify your status.

@@EssaGroup what about existing employer can they denied you work unless you renew your green card eventhough it expire in a less than a month period

Essa Group thank you so much. I feel relieved now.

Hi Augustina. No worries. You do not need to renew your green card. Please bring your passport to your biometrics appointment with your green card, state ID, and appointment notice. You can ask for an extension stamp in your passport. The extension stamp will extend your green card for another 18 months.

Can you do an extention to stay if your conditional green card is expired and you are still in the process of renewing for the permanant recidence in order to continue working with your current employer?
Or if there is a way to continue working after you green card is expired and you are in process for renewing your green card?
Hi Itzayana. If you are a conditional green card holder and you've filed Form I-751 www.uscis.gov/i-751 90 days before expiration on your card, then the receipt notice for the I-751 should serve as your extension (usually for 12 months). If your employer needs further proof, then you may need to schedule an InfoPass appointment with your field office - my.uscis.gov/appointment

Hi Janno and Ishan. Yes, the time has become increasingly much longer. It is very frustrating. You can submit a Case Inquiry for Case Outside Normal Processing Time here - egov.uscis.gov/e-Request/Intro.do However, check the processing timetable for your field office first here, otherwise they will just tell you that you are within the processing timetable - egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplayInit.do
Can you travel outside the country after a biometric appointment to renew your green card?
Hi Mariela. You cannot renew your green card outside the United States. Please don't travel with an expired green card.

We are so sorry to hear of your situation. Is your wife a U.S. citizen? Do you have a ten year green card or a conditional green card based on marriage? If you have a conditional green card, have you filed to have the conditions removed yet? There may be some legal options based on your immigration status and that of your wife.

Hi Cristina. It sounds like you are in a terrible situation. If you have already had the conditions removed from your green card, that is good. Do you now have a 10 year green card?
If you still need the conditions removed from your green card, then please contact a free or low cost immigration lawyer that specializes in victims of abuse.
Please see here for a list - www.womenslaw.org/find-help/fl/finding-lawyer/legal-assistance/all
Ask if you can speak to someone to get advice.
You might be able to file a waiver of the joint filing requirement because you have been abused, but I am not familiar with this process. You will need to ask a lawyer.

Under the federal Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), you may be eligible to become a lawful permanent resident (get a Green Card) if you are the victim of battery or extreme cruelty. Please ask them if they can help you file under this act. www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-vawa-self-petitioner
🙏🙏🙏♥️
That will give you 90 days to wait to see if you can get that extension letter. www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/acceptable-documents/receipts
Please send a message directly through your online account or by calling the customer service line - www.uscis.gov/contactcenter
Good luck and keep us posted!!
Essa Group what if my card was expired in 2011 can I still get an extension letter or use the receipt of action I-797C
Hi Andres. Yes, Form I-797C, Notice of Action with your 10 digit receipt number on it. You can use your receipt number to check your case status online here - egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do
Can I renew my license with an expired green card in the state of Texas? Thank you for all your info!
Hi Jannele Avila. Here are the docs you need to bring in - www.dps.texas.gov/internetforms/Forms/DL-32.pdf
On this form, it does not say anything about an expired green card.
However, if you look at the website here it says, "(Documents may be expired unless otherwise noted.)" www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/LawfulStatusDLID.htm
So, bottom line - not sure - since they are not clear with their wording.

Hello Essa Group.I want to renew my Green Card but im not in U.S because my dad died in my country when i was in U.S so i came my country back and my green card expired here for 2 years. How can i renew my green card.Thank you for your responses.
Hello Dogukan. Unfortunately, this might be considered abandonment of permanent residence. You should contact the nearest U.S. Consulate, USCIS office, or U.S. port of entry before attempting to file Form I-90 for a renewal green card. - www.usembassy.gov/
