Great job! Thanks for sharing. I have a question: what do you do to compensate for lack of a microwave oven? We’re looking at cross country travel twice a year & some short 2-3 day local trips every couple of weeks. Also, is the fridge sufficient size for longer excursions? Thanks.
Thanks for watching! There are mods out there where folks wire for and add a microwave in their Solis. We make a lot of sandwiches, fried eggs, pasta, cooked breakfasts, rice, and we boil water for hot drinks etc. For our style of cooking we don’t miss a microwave. I do think the fridge is sufficient for long trips but we bought a 12v Fridge Freezer for various adventures that we occasionally bring in the van… stored under the Murphy bed or in the rear gear garage.

Excellent walk through! If you need to winterize where you live is that something you perform yourself? What do you do to maintain the house batteries in cold weather? Thanks in advance for addressing these questions.
It gets into single digit temps here. We winterize the water system with antifreeze. I know some folks live full time in the Solis through cold winters but the heater would need to run daily in freezing temps or pipes will break. We use the winterized Solis occasionally in the winter but we use a 7gal water jug and we have a folding portable toilet with disposable bags. Great question!
Anybody knows why it whistles on highway? This is an excellent walk through about the solid camper can. Appreciate your time and effort to do this. Better than the dealers can offer.
Thanks for watching! The whistling is usually the vent in the roof/poptop. Try opening it partially when you drive. Some crafty folks have 3-D printed a cap to place over the vent to reduce the whistle!
@@crsnmorton Yep it is disappointing. I don’t know if that is a matter of the chassis inventory available or what Winnebago is willing to buy. My Subaru has had adaptive cruise control from 2014!
Thank you for the detailed walk through from a different point of view. It helped me decide on which model van I'm considering purchasing. My major concerns were the murphy bed setup , very small dining table and how many features need the generator on. I like the floor plan , especially the extra 14" rear storage.
Thank you Stacy for commenting! We're driving home in the Solis from a fly fishing trip now and we still enjoy our adventures in the van, still no regrets for our needs. Rather than use the generator all the time, we bought a Bluetti power station for our 110v needs (which we can also use in our Subaru or Bean camper trailer. At 6'2" tall the murphy bed is a bit tight for me, Tessa and I sleep head to toe and it's fine. Good luck shopping!
Thank you Jann! I received questions about accessories we added to our rig so I’ll follow up with another video soon. Hopefully that will be informative too!
Nice video and I learn a lot. one question on eco-hot water heater issue: I have tried all modes (eco, hot and booster) and wait more than 10 mins, however, the warm temp was still light warm, not good at all for showering. I turned the position to pre-heat for a couple times, still the same. The propane is full and heating is working. Only the water heater is not working. Did I missing sth?thanks
Sorry to hear you're not getting heat working. Maybe you've worked it out in the last months I didn't respond. I have a sibling who never gets their Truma hot water to work after years of use. I don't 100% trust the Boost option under the sink. Nowadays, we turn on our hot water about 40min before a shower and we use the "HOT" setting. I'd love to hear if you've come up with any new solution...
What model of front seat covers do you have, and do you like them a lot? We find the stock seats to be too firm for us. Ditto the back bench seat. We'd like to make them cushier for when we're sitting around at night and reading.
We feel the same! These are generic seat cover sold at Costco... We primary are trying to protect the seat, I couldn't say they are more comfortable... I've love to hear what other owners have come up with.
Thanks for making this great video! When you go on trips do you just leave the hot water on the entire time so that it's ready to go when you need it or would that consume too much propane?
Extremely thorough, thx! Been considering looking at this unit but not being able to close the rear doors while on city water in a campground is kind of a deal breaker for us, from a security perspective. Really appreciate you pointing that out. 😊👍
Yep it is an odd design choice. Maybe someone out there has discovered a solution. We have always run on the tank so we haven’t been bothered by it, but maybe we don’t know what we’re missing ha. Good luck hunting!
If you're at the campground and you just fill it up, close the door and we need more water. Just filled up again. Only takes couple minutes. We bought one a month ago and Manda because watching this guy's video definitely the best refer back to him. This is awesome vehicle with this price. We bought a 23 new body style 23 new chassis. The bright orange one awesome awesome awesome
There are some YT videos that show how to run a short section of water hose down thru a hole in the floor that you drill right by the right rear door. Apparently, the Solis targets boondockers over folks who stay at RV parks.
@@Gius_13 Good question, I’m 6’2” and the poptop is plenty long for me. It may be good up to 6’4” or more. In the Murphy bed, I do have to sleep diagonally. We have not had roof leak problems but some people report leaky roofs from manufacturing defects. We do live in very dry Utah so heavy rain isn’t an issue most of the time here.
This video is outstanding. Would you be willing to share links for some of your products? I’d love to know what drying track that is you place in the sink. Also I’d like to know about that leveling block stack holder. Thanks again for the clear, thorough video. Best I’ve seen!

We picked up these seat covers at the local Costco. I do like them, especially for the price! We didn’t want to pay for custom covers, these lasted two heavy seasons.
I can see it being a precarious choice given the $$ involved. I like the Class Bs for their mobility and simplicity (and relative simplicity to repair). I usually camp on free BLM. Our extended family has all of the above and something is broken and annoying for every brand out there!! lol.
Glad you are a taller guy, which offers a good perspective walking around with a ballcap. I am 6' 3.5" and understand going into a standard van will not be able to walk around fully standing. Thoughts/questions that you may be able to address: 1. Having the top up, overall, does it make the coach feel roomy to you (aside from the utility of sleeping up there)? I figured it could at least be a place where I could stand to get dressed. 2. The murphy bed work at all for me as a solo diagonal sleeper? Context, it appears floorplans with the "north to south" sleeping (i.e. Travato) may be the better fit but I need to experience. Thank you, I appreciate the details you discuss.
Hi Scott, great questions, I also struggled to find info on space for taller folks. I've slept in the Thors also. The north-to-south is nice, my feet still hang off but at least it's into a hallway so my feet are in the open. The Solis murphy bed is very comfortable for me alone laying diagonally at 6'2". With my 5'3" wife, it's a bit cramped but doable. At 6'4" you'd want to use the murphy bed alone. I'd place my pillow in the corner near the sink so my feet had some space out the rear cargo area and it would be nice. The pop top bed would be good for you, especially alone. I prefer the pop top for sleeping now.
@@roadstoke Winnebago advertises the bed via floorplan at 77 inches, sounds like a stretch. I understand that feet hanging off the bed, not ideal, lol. Planning to rent a Travato in October to try this deal. Thank you for the feedback.
Thank you. Very good walk through. I like seeing how you are storing everything. Are you going to do follow-ups as you use it? I'm probably a year away from buying one. Currently have a 24 Class C I want to downsize. think I'd induction burners. I've never used the gas burners in my current rv.
Yes! I have some content in the making that I think van enthusiasts will find interesting. I rent our Solis when I can and so many people say they are downsizing from big RVs to a van and try out our Solis… they really like it. Stay tuned!…
Do you think it would be easy to swap out the table with another custom (more rectangular, slightly wider) one? The oval shaped table looks very small for a family to eat on together. Ideally, it would be longer for two people to work on. Also is there room for an awning with the pop top?
Good questions Brian. I think a bigger, square table is very doable and I do wish it was bigger. You could steal the mount from the existing table. Possible cons to a square: 1. The round shape allows room to swivel the table to the window and lower the ladder but there’s certainly room for a bigger round shape. 2. A new shape may not fit behind the seat but you could build to spec. 3. The shape should also accommodate room for the ladder to come down. The pop top does not leave space to mount and awning from the roof ‘top’ but I can see potential custom fabrication to mount (bolt) to the top corner edge side wall. We don’t miss having an awning ourselves but they are popular!
@@roadstoke Thanks so much for answering, super helpful. I think a longer table (maybe rectangular but with nice rounded edges) would be a big improvement. Good thought to make it still leave room for the ladder. I had another question - it sounds like you have two kids - how do you feel those two seats would hold up for a long (cross country) road trip for kids? I only ask because it's hard to get an idea of how comfortable they are and if two kids would have enough arm space since there's no divider or armrest between the seats.
@@brianfulda I’ve sat in the back for many hours between stops and somehow it’s comfortable despite how it looks. Kids haven’t complained. If you’re shopping I do recommend renting one to see what you think and if it’s a fit, it’s a big depreciating asset to purchase!
Thanks for the comment! The Solis models do not have microwaves built in. There are 110V outlets (on generator or shore power) that could handle it. The foam topper is Walmart memory foam.
Good points, a collapsible ladder could work very well there. We've gotten used to it. The rear bathroom layout is slick! For our use, we needed a lot of storage in the back for gear and the ability to slide surfboards and camping gear under the bed so this layout has exceeded expectations for us.
We've had a 23 new body style with 23 new chassis and had it for a month and we've showered in it. We use the bathroom in it and I mean we have no odor. We just put those little tablets in there in the cassette toilet and we're shocked but there's absolutely no odor. It's crazy this thing ever
Great question and thank you for the kind words! We haven't had issues with heat/steam (that we know of). The toilet can occasionally smell but it's probably exceeded our expectations. Tips: Along with using the blue treatment, you can lock in the toilet smell by closing the toilet valve and then do a quick flush to add a shallow layer of water on top. The water makes a airtight seal until you open the valve again...
Ya it's pretty darned good! I love hearing other owners experiences, thanks for the commenting! I actually like the simplicity of the cassette all around...
Great question, i added a new video with my favorite upgrades for the Solis and the topper is one of them! The murphy bed topper is a cheap Walmart memory foam in a full size...
Incredible presentation. Winnebago/RAM should be using this as a tutorial! Great job. I do have a question though. Have read the Dodge Promaster being a front-wheel vehicle is noisy while driving and the least comfortable of the big 3 van chassis. Any comments?
Great question. We did notice initially the cabin seemed a little noisy when driving, it hasn’t been a deal-breaker. We can chat without yelling. Both my wife and I each love driving it, I think it’s quite comfortable and enjoyable to drive as do all our renters. I’m 6’2” my wife 5’3”. I can’t compare to Ford or Mercedes, I haven’t driven those chassis recently. We were more annoyed by things rattling in the van all of which I’ve resolved over time. Hope that helps!
Hey - loved this video. Any interest in doing similar how to videos for other models for an RV rental company in Bozeman and Las Vegas (Blacksford RV) that rents brand new Winnebagos -- Solis P, Solis PX, Ekko pop top, Revel, and Views (J and D Models)?
I'm very flattered! I have to say, I'd love to see a painfully long review of the other models too. For now my plate is full with my own business and a backlog of adventures...
A lot of design needed to be learnt from Asian RV companies. Ex, they make twin beds and upper queen bed that can be adjusted by pull down or remote, on top of twin beds, so you can have 3 beds: 2 twins and a queen in the back of RV. In front, they even make the dinner table and can convert to a bed as well as a bunk bed above driver/passenger seats. They also have a dryer inside RV. Guess what class is their RV? You would be surprised.
What class are they?! These sound like great features. I have to say the various mainstream builders like Winnie, Thor doesn't seem to come up with mindblowing designs and leave a lot of room for improvement. We still crave adventuring in the Solis every chance we get.
Great question, I'm just using the straps included to lower the pop top. I used zip ties to secure the straps to the pop top handles. The i use the strap buckles wrap around the ladder rungs...
Good question, no Pop-Top leaks yet but sleeping in melting snow or rain you can water gathering in the side edges that we have to let dry. So far no real complaints sleeping up there!
I have not seen the couch bed option on the PX. I believe you may have to do a custom alteration on your own to build a couch bed. I’d be curious to hear what others have done in that regard. The murphy bed fits our needs nicely because we like the under bed storage through the back.
Thanks for watching Rick! We liked the color too! The dealer said it was the first run of the color for 2023. The color probably heats up the rig a bit but we don't regret it.
I know these comments were 5 months ago, but I am very excited that I'm getting the new spitfire Orange pop top coming here. It's it'll be mid February 2023 until the new body and the new chassis and everything. Very excited. Finally, something new
Is the Van too high or too long that is not able to fit in the garage because I am interested in the class b 😅 my garage is built after2000 and it's pretty standard size 😢 garage
It would be nice to park in the garage. The Solis 59px is 9’6” tall, it’s not even close to fitting in our standard two-car garage let alone under the open garage door. I don’t know how tall the Solis with out AC and poptop is but that won’t likely fit in most garages either.
You bet Lee, done. I've now added many links to our favorite items we would buy again including the seatbelt adapters... Thanks for the request and thanks for watching the video!
Well, you could use it inside of somebody's like messing with your doors. If you're camping and you hear somebody hit the panic button, it just sets off the alarm. Or if you're walking to your vehicle somebody's around it, look outside if it's parked outside your front door just to hit it just to set off the alarms to scare people away
Great question, having more experience with the keyfob now. The panic button makes the horn sound off, and keep honking till you press the panic button again. It's a panic every time it goes off in camp!
To be honest I don't know yet. The generator runs on regular gasoline from the van tank it appears, The generator gas costs there has stopped crossing my mind compared to our van miles. It's a Cummins Onan generator and they do have specs out there so I may try and figure it out sometime.

Thank you for the nice comment!
great walkthrough for folks interested in owning a B-class rv, very detailed and informative

Excellent video. 1.5x is the perfect speed to watch. :-)
Agreed, it is! Thank you for watching!
Can you tell me what trash receptacle you have hanging from your passenger headrest, link? TY
Yes! I have links to the trash receptacle and all gadgets we like best… thank you for checking out the video!
@@roadstoke Thank you, I found the link!
Great question, we only turn on the hot water when we're due for a shower! I'd be curious what other folks do...
Awesome detailed video, thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the kind comment... I'm releasing more videos now answering questions people have posted...
Need an option for a shelf under sink storage and the bathroom door looks cheap! This might become my retirement home before retirement!
Thank you for the comment! Agreed, we've tried a few under sink storage options, but nothing we like yet. The bathroom door could be better for sure.
Apparently, the Solis targets boondockers over folks who stay at RV parks.
fantastic walkthrough!
Thank you for watching! 👍
Whats the tallest height person to comfortably sleep the pop top? And are you concerned of potential rain leaks thru the seal overtime?
@@Gius_13 Good question, I’m 6’2” and the poptop is plenty long for me. It may be good up to 6’4” or more.
In the Murphy bed, I do have to sleep diagonally.
We have not had roof leak problems but some people report leaky roofs from manufacturing defects. We do live in very dry Utah so heavy rain isn’t an issue most of the time here.
Thank you for your time
Thank you for watching!
Your pop top is also very easy to operate from inside & can climb on & climb down is from inside only that is very cool.
Agreed! My favorite place to sleep.
Thanks for sharing the video it was very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
This video is outstanding. Would you be willing to share links for some of your products? I’d love to know what drying track that is you place in the sink. Also I’d like to know about that leveling block stack holder. Thanks again for the clear, thorough video. Best I’ve seen!
Great idea! My wife said I should add our product links in the description so I'll work on that when we're back from travels in the next week. Thanks for commenting!

Same questions here!
What are your seat covers? I’ve been looking for a good set.
We picked up these seat covers at the local Costco. I do like them, especially for the price! We didn’t want to pay for custom covers, these lasted two heavy seasons.
Nice!!! I keep waffling between one of these and a Class C!!! 🙁
I can see it being a precarious choice given the $$ involved. I like the Class Bs for their mobility and simplicity (and relative simplicity to repair). I usually camp on free BLM. Our extended family has all of the above and something is broken and annoying for every brand out there!! lol.
Is it feasible to lie lengthwise (north-south) on the rear bed? We dislike climbing over one another to use the bathroom. Great review.
Good question, it's not really. It's just a full size bed. We let the person w the most bathroom trips sleep near the bathroom :)
Glad you are a taller guy, which offers a good perspective walking around with a ballcap. I am 6' 3.5" and understand going into a standard van will not be able to walk around fully standing. Thoughts/questions that you may be able to address:
You've given me an idea to do a tall people in camper vans video! Just place me and my lady around the van to show the space...
@@roadstoke ...carve out a niche (van life for tall people) with that one!
Possible cons to a square:
Great video, thanks for sharing. Does this model have a microwave oven? Also, where did you purchase your mattress topper?
Thanks for the comment! The Solis models do not have microwaves built in. There are 110V outlets (on generator or shore power) that could handle it. The foam topper is Walmart memory foam.
I like the interior layout.
But I always like rear bathroom & toilet.
Insted of two part ladder collapsible ladder is mor convenient. I think so.
Good points, a collapsible ladder could work very well there. We've gotten used to it. The rear bathroom layout is slick! For our use, we needed a lot of storage in the back for gear and the ability to slide surfboards and camping gear under the bed so this layout has exceeded expectations for us.
And I guess this is because of the pop top but no fan or ventilation for shower heat/steam or toilet smells ? Thanks for an amazing detailed tour !
Thanks for the Best walkthrough ever.
Wow thank you for that feedback! I just bought a mic on folks’ recommendation so hopefully the next videos sound better…
great video! thank you.
Glad you liked it!
What apd topper are you using for the rear murphy bed? Thanks.
Great question, i added a new video with my favorite upgrades for the Solis and the topper is one of them! The murphy bed topper is a cheap Walmart memory foam in a full size...
Perfect!!!! Thank you.
You're welcome!
WE HAVE A 2021 SOLIS WITH 30,000 MILES. WE ALSO HAD A SPRINTER, 2012, AND COMPARING THE TWO, THE SOLIS IS THE QUIETER AND EASIER TO DRIVE.
Why would a front wheel drive van be noisier? The engine and transmission are in the front on both FWD and RWD and the tire noise would be the same ?
Great Review guys
Thank you, more to come! I've recording more videos soon to release...
Do you have a link to the seat covers, please? Or are these one of the features you ended up not liking?
I do like the seat covers at the Costco price! I'm not able to find a link for them unfortunately, maybe they're a local store offering?
Awesome detailed video and explanation!
Glad it was helpful!
Very detailed. Appreciate it.
Thank you for the comment, I'm glad it was informative!
Great video!!!
Thank you for checking out the video!
What brand of strap are you using to secure the ladder to the pop top?
Great question, I'm just using the straps included to lower the pop top. I used zip ties to secure the straps to the pop top handles. The i use the strap buckles wrap around the ladder rungs...
Nice job by your videographer too!
Thanks! My wife's first attempt, I'll tell her!
Any leaks from the pop top in the rain?
Good question, no Pop-Top leaks yet but sleeping in melting snow or rain you can water gathering in the side edges that we have to let dry. So far no real complaints sleeping up there!
I know the p you have the option for both couchbed or Murphy bed can you take out the Murphy bed into the couchbed?
I have not seen the couch bed option on the PX. I believe you may have to do a custom alteration on your own to build a couch bed. I’d be curious to hear what others have done in that regard. The murphy bed fits our needs nicely because we like the under bed storage through the back.
I thought the only colors for the 2023 Solis PX are white, red or silver. I like the dark gray!
Thank you great video
I appreciate you watching!
Great Video! How tall are you? that shower roof line looks awfully short for you. :)
Yep you’re right! I’m 6’2”. I shower sitting down in there.
Can you link to the two seatbelt attachments you show at 2:39?
You bet Lee, done. I've now added many links to our favorite items we would buy again including the seatbelt adapters... Thanks for the request and thanks for watching the video!
Very detailed walk through, thank you!
I appreciate that, thanks for watching. I got a new mic, more videos incoming!

What’s the panic button on the key fob?
Well, you could use it inside of somebody's like messing with your doors. If you're camping and you hear somebody hit the panic button, it just sets off the alarm. Or if you're walking to your vehicle somebody's around it, look outside if it's parked outside your front door just to hit it just to set off the alarms to scare people away
Great question, having more experience with the keyfob now. The panic button makes the horn sound off, and keep honking till you press the panic button again. It's a panic every time it goes off in camp!
I must have missed where the spare tire is.
Good observation actually, you didn't miss it, there isn't one! Thanks for watching!
How much gas does the generator use when running the a/c?
To be honest I don't know yet. The generator runs on regular gasoline from the van tank it appears, The generator gas costs there has stopped crossing my mind compared to our van miles. It's a Cummins Onan generator and they do have specs out there so I may try and figure it out sometime.
