Cool suggestion. Add a juggernaut. A machine that can be randomly triggered to begin going around the map, carving a 2 wide trail and dropping 2 explosives at random intervals. Itd be a cool addition to have a random factor that adds more chaos to these spleef matches. Maybe if the machine is disabled, it could also have a large self destruct feature too.
Bring back the robot spleef cars, but add player controlled turrets to each one. So you can shoot parts across the map, but the robot controls where you go.
Since the bomb is invincible for a few moments, best to use that time to line up your vehicle before jumping up to shoot, it will be faster and less deadly (to self)!
Explosive spleef has me thinking it should be a bomb dropper instead of spuds cutting holes. Littering the field with bomb's is just I ticking bomb as suddenly they all go off as 1 gets shot.

Didn't know about the invincibility of the explosive barrels. You could make tank battles in challenge mode with them. Spawn a bomb then just at the end of the invincible phase, shoot the bomb with a few spudguns. Then one tick later have a single spud hit the bomb. The first shots should launch it, the second should put it into the delayed explode.
I forgot if I already made this suggestion: Would the game allow you to make vehicles that hook into walls and ceilings made like the floor by clawing into it, and creating holes where the wheels (or paws if you need to make it a walker instead of using wheels) with some spacing (so not a line per wheel, make only enough holes for the vehicles to be able to grab a hold and move)? If so, make a cube arena held by the corners, and play the game inside it using those spider-cars (dunno if you'll need some sort of ramp or curve for the transitions to walls and stuff, or if you can make the vehicles handle the 90 degrees just fine). The continuous line mechanic can remain unchanged for this idea; the important part is clawing holes for moving and climbing on walls and ceilings inside a cube..
Maybe a spleef arena that has spudguns that randomly cut lines through the arena. Would make parts of the map fall completely random very hard to be strategic with your lines

it would be sort of similar to this but I would like to see a sort of shotgun spleef where instead of a continuous line you instead shoot periodic say 5 block wide circular potholes for tires to get stuck into for this to work the wheels of the cars would likely need to be on suspension or at least some sort of angled bar so that the chassis doesnt prevent the wheel getting stuck in a pothole
You should make a 10 by 10 box made out of cardboard plus an object inside you need to protect. You can build a shield wall above it maybe 4 or 5 layers thick and you get to make a turrets maybe 4 to 6 guns to help protect your base . next you need a bomb spawner that drops bombs from the sky onto the base. . bomb spawner job is to eliminate base defender the fastest . base defender job is to see how long he can last you can change the rules on how to win would like to see 2 vs 2 one build the bomb spawner while the other builds the turrets great video

You automatically leave a trail of explosives and the front spud gun on the car is always on. If you are even facing the direction of an explosive, the entire chain of explosives goes off.
What about having some sensors under the cardboard (they could be marked or unmarked) and when they're uncovered they drop a bomb from the ceiling? You wouldn't know which bomb the sensor is hooked up to so you could bomb yourself, an opponent or an empty part of the map. Personal spudguns would need to be allowed incase a bomb drops but doesn't explode.
Can you engineer it somehow to speed up the vehicles as time passes? I'm pretty sure you can't do it natievely, but it would be interesting to see how people cope with it.
