Awesome video! One technicality for you, the proper name for a duct detector key switch is remote test station. The system sensor remote test station begins with the letters RTS in the model number which stand for Remote Test Station.

The smoke detector in the duct detector is made by a English company called Apollo

There's also a feature on it where you can put a pin into the tiny hole on the bottom, around the red circle to test it.
If you are referring to the feature where you can spray canned smoke into the tiny hole, yes that's a feature.
@@SERSafety No. Below the smoke detector head marked "TEST PORT". You can demonstrate it in test 9 if you were to. Also, I would like to see these Mircom/Amseco/Potter alarms go off by themselves in test 9 too, and I've never seen you reset the panel with the keyswitch for the duct detector still in alarm before because I never knew you could do it.
the duct detector key switch and the alarm sound combined together makes a neat sound

What brand is the actual smoke detector inside the unit? I’m a fire alarm engineer in the UK and we use those smoke detectors everywhere - they are very popular here. (Manufactured and designed in the UK)
I’m guessing it’s an Apollo Series 65? Just wondering if they rebrand it when it goes to the USA.

For a basic starter alarm system I recommend these devices:
Panel: Fire-Lite MS-2
Pull Station: Fire-Lite BG-12L
Alarm: Gentex Commander 3
Smoke detector: System Sensor i3

Nice! Also just as an idea, you should make it so those duct pipes come out the top that way you could mount another panel if you ever wanted too.
As of now, I have zero plans to mount another panel to this side of my board. I am very happy with the set up I have currently. Thank you for the suggestion though.

Usually (in my experience) duct detectors do not operate a fire alarm- they just shut down units/close dampers.
Duct Detectors do cut off the air supply, of course. They actually do operate the fire alarm since what could have presented as light smoke could actually be a byproduct of a active working fire. Just like the alarm activated fire doors.. Duct Detectors work in the same capacity: to prevent the spread of smoke/fire by cutting off the oxygen supply needed for fire to grow.
@@michaelomalley592 i've never seen them hooked onto a fire alarm in my area, just shut the unit off here. guess it depends on local regs too lol

Will a duck detector work on a security system
Hard to tell on the vid, does the strobe on the duct detector key switch flash in sync with the other strobes? I wonder if there's any analogue in Simplex's line that has SmartSync compatibility...

My recommendation would be to replace your entire smoke alarm unit. Based on your context it sounds like your smoke alarm is already very much unreliable.
