Anyone who chooses to be offended over how one man builds HIS hot rod isn’t a hotrodder. I get the purist thing but I view hotrodding different from a restoration. We all don’t have the same budget when building. Nothing better than a dad and his son spending time wrenching
Love the Why I Drive series! Wish my dad was still here to share. He passed away to a brain tumor back in 1989. It was his love of cars that was passed down to me Including the 1966 F100 he bought new October 1965 and I learned to drive in it that fall. I now have 10 1966 Ford trucks. Building a exact clone to the one he bought new. The day he brought it home I told him some day I was going to buy a brand new 1966 F100! Little did I know only being 8 yrs old it meant a 1 yr only and it would take me 45+ yrs to learn the art of restoration so I could do just that! Build my own to look new vs being able to go out and buy one. Way back in the late 70's I did build a '34 3 window coupe and since then had a 1932 Roadster with a injected 427 SOHC, and also owned the Holley '32 3 window Coupe they built for the magazine series. "No Mercy"
I never understood people getting mad at an engine in a car that isn’t theirs. It’s his car, his engine, his money and his time so it belongs wherever he wants to put it. If you want it done differently then by all means go and build one yourself the way you want it.
This “why I drive” is about connection, feelings, emotion… When I am driving with my 10yr old son, that’s when we always have the best conversations!!! That is the real value of a car! It creates memories for life!
All who whining about the Chevy engine should educate themselves a bit more. Starting in the mid50's hotrodders put chevy engine in almost everything (and olds, mopar, etc. too), because it was cheap and make good power. People nowadays seems forget what is hotrodding. Congrats to Chris and his son for making this cool car!
How cool that your son embraced your passion for hot rods. You obviously have more than handyman skills. Chopping a top and getting it right requires some journeyman skills. I'm only part way through your very polished video. I'm a car guy but your relationship with your son and how you bonded over this car project is the real story, however, I still have questions about this build that were not revealed in your video. Congratulations on this amazing car. Happy for you and your son that you have such an amazing relationship. You are blessed.
One of the best videos I've seen on this channel, I grew up with model A,s they brought me home from the hospital in a 4 door sedan , mafca, swapmeets , antique nationals , we have a picture with 5 model A,s on the front lawn , dad was a true FORD guy .
3 nights a week and weekend evenings I hang out with dad at the shop and we tinker on whatever. He's 78 and really healthy but I gotta cherish every second, at this point in my life he's my best friend also. He learned to drive in a model A he told me.
As a man now 40 who lost my dad at 16, I have to thank you for this. What a beautiful relationship between dad and son. Would've loved to have had that connection to my dad, and hope any upcoming dad's take notice of this. This is a great way to bond together with your sons or daughters. HalleluYAH
Absolutely gorgeous car... this is just a prime example that our hobby is about more than the cars we drive , it's about the relationships it fosters along the way .
I just watched the ending after making my comment. What a Cool ending. Your son will carry this time with you for the rest of his life. Congratulations Dad! You are an amazing father. Your son is an amazing young man!
What a great show. A joy to watch.used to have my daughter come into the workshop to get her small hands into areas of my 48 chevy I could get .she's 31 now we still laugh now about some of the crazy stuff I had her help me with.will continue to watch more of these shows .
As a Ford purist, that is an absolutely beautiful car. And while it may be the wrong brand of motor, at least you stuck with a nostalgic 327 as opposed to a 350 crate or an LS… Agwin, that is a beautiful car.
Awesome story, My Brother and I connected with Cars like that, jumping in figuring things out, then after we had a passion for Cars Dad started to get involved , keep the Hobby alive and growing.
Great to see a father and son with a connection like that. My son Myles is nearly 2yrs old now and he’s already showing an interest in transport. I have an old Mercedes 190e that I know we will share many happy times in together. Love the colour of that coupe. Beautiful.
I personally thank the Shifters So. Cal. for bringing back the resurgence in nostalgic traditional Hot Rodding in the early 1990s. That original movement is why we're all here today
Love the story, keep that thing hauling. Sod the people that say Chevy in a Ford is bad! if it works for you use it. As a car photographer I love it and would use it in a shoot tomorrow ( shame I'm in the U.K)
@@Steffmanzz i am sure $$ is the sole reason why stuff like this does not happen. Living out in the country is probably easier for father and son to do things like this, but in the city limits where smartphones and internet have most tied up, this does not happen.
Beautiful hot rod and great story! Need more like this. Thank you for profiling someone from Texas. CA and NY get way too much attention when there are tons of great cars and owners all in between. Keep 'em coming Hagerty!
I went to a good guys event a number of years ago and they had an entire baseball field of just '32 fords. Probably 80% had small block chevys, 15% flat heads, 4% hemi's, and 1% odd ball nail heads, mercury, Cadillac and whatever else. The point is the SBC's belong in hot rods. If it's cool it's not wrong
Just a simple dependable engine, can pull in any parts store lot and prob get stuff to fix it, I put a chevy engine in a mustang as a cheap race car back in 2006, caused a stir at local track, now it's the normal thing
Personally, I'd like to see more flathead 6 and 8 cylinder hot rods and those from orphan marques. A whole lot cooler than the dime-a-dozen SBC in my mind!
That's what Chevy people think. I prefer Ford engine in a Ford and you saying the sbc belongs in every hot rod is a slap in the face to other hot rodders. And people especially Chevy people forget that the flathead Ford v8 started the hot rod craze
Dean's a lucky young man - my dad wasn't into cars. Oh, he owned & drove them for work & pleasure, but he didn't think that working on them would "put food on the table" like his job. You couldn't have been more wrong, old man.
Great story. Here is a life tip, a lot of "guys" will tell you what is wrong with your car, your life or your opinions. Most of those "guys" have never built or done anything worthwhile in their lives because they spend too much time telling others how to live theirs. Ignore them and push forward.

That's my neighbor. Really great people!
Now THATS a car. What a great father and son story and one of the sweetest Model 40 fords I’ve ever seen. Nice job guys !
I love this story and I am so happy that another kid learned how to drive a clutch. Car is dope too.

100%. The having to shout at each other probably helps loosen things up, too!
That is one cool kid. Hat's off to the father. The story behind the car is always what interests me.

Cool bond between father and son..
not just a stunningly cool car but an awesome father-son connection.
now, i wanna see the kid's project!
Does not matter what motor it has in it, it is a hot rod, great connection with father, and son.
That’s fricken AWSOME

Agreed - those people need to read the Duntov memo.
The timing couldn't have been better. Love that style of project cars.

my dad loved cars too.
when I was in high school, we would take long drives in my 280ZX and Celica.
miss the old man
Glad you have the memories, that’s what it’s all about!
Very cool story. My dad is the reason I'm into cars, it's great anytime I see a father and son enjoying our hobby together
That car is perfect! No excess baggage, just a great body, rake, chop, the tall tire/wheel set up, etc.
I can relate. When I had my boat, those were the best times to talk with my kids. Out on the lake, no phone, no tv, just us.
Mate, that is one perfect looking Hot Rod, that colour combination is perfect to me.
Father and son is awesome. Love it ! I want to build a 32 with a Ford 302 . Would love to build that with my dad !
Ah mann, I was smiling the entire video. You both are lucky to have each other
Yea man, my son 16 yrs old only cares about his video games and cell phone, while here i am with 6 cars, he wants nothing to do with them.
That kid is lucky to have a good dad.

There is something more valuable than the car in this video , the bond of a father and son….. p.s. the roddy is right up there tho.
I believe this is the best video I have ever seen on RUclips.
Awesome story, My Brother and I connected with Cars like that, jumping in figuring things out, then after we had a passion for Cars Dad started to get involved , keep the Hobby alive and growing.
There's nothing more gratifying than a father and son working on a car together! Freakin Awesome!👍

Love your car and the fact that you put a manual transmission in it.
Nothing like that grille comin at you on the road! What a killer video and car. Greta job!!
Need more content like this on RUclips
Awesome video gave me goosebumps!
Great color. Cool build.

I agree 100%, great folks.
Chris and Dean are the real deal! Two of the nicest, coolest guys you will ever meet. Glad to see you guys on here.
Love the car. Love the story behind it even more. Way to go Dad! You're doing it right.
So beautiful!

Wonderful. The human side to cars.
Lovely story and fantastic HOT ROD!
You can’t beat the look of an arm out the window of a chopped 33 coupe.
Too cool. Father & Son with the same passion for old Hot Rods. 😎👍🇨🇦
Great story, thanks. If that was actually his first time letting the clutch up, it was stunningly smooth.
Wonderful build
Life is good
Thanks for sharing
Peace, and continued blessings
Keep up the good work Haggerty.
Great video, great story. Love it!
Love this car and story well done guys regards from New Zealand :)
Awesome stuff. Keep the dream (and the cars) alive. Pass it on!
The hot rod is awesome , but the father son story is even cooler!!! congratulations on connecting with your son!!!
So cool the love beetween a father and his son and in the middle a rod ...
That’s what it’s all about! 🤘😎👍
Rock on gentleman
OUTSTANDING
beautiful vehicle
Super cool. Correct motor!
This cars looks, and sounds absolutely perfect.
He’s not the only one who’s into his hot rods at a young age and I definitely think more young people should get involved in the hobby
Well social media has those kids tied up.
I agree but I'd say it's definitely not easy for young people to do so due to money and limited or no garage space.
@@Steffmanzz ye ye, and also it’s what you’ve been brought up around as well

Gentlemen that car is sweet! Glad to see that young man digging the old hot rods .Pass it on !
Excellent street. Rod. I would have gone with a 331 Ford !!
Beautiful car & video
That is super clean
Exceptionally cool story!! (and car)
Great project, that seems like so much fun awesome.
WOW amazing, thanks for sharing.
Perfect build, love the color!
This car is beautiful! A 30s body with a small block chevy is my dream hot rod.
