1966 Corvette passed down from father to daughter | Why I Drive #36

- This 1966 Chevrolet Corvette didn't find its way into Leslie Sisco's family on the best terms. “When Mom came home, she found herself the new owner of a Corvette,” says Leslie with a smile, “and Dad nearly found himself divorced.” All's well that ends well, though, as the this classic Chevy spent the next several decades as an integral part of the Sisco family. Leslie is now the owner of the car after her father passed away a few years ago. She drives it regularly and has formed a close bond with the local car community. It's during her drives that she feels her father's presence most closely. “My dad would be proud that I take it out and enjoy it because he definitely enjoyed it,” she says. “If I just kept it in a garage and never enjoyed it, that would be disappointing for him.”

This is exactly what cars were meant for, to drive. Take care of it and it will take care of you for many miles. She gets it. Awesome story and awesome connection with your father. Thank you for sharing it.
Exactly!!! Great post!
Not many women get it
I love that “I think he would be proud it’s out still living”
Yes he is. What car would your family wish they'd kept?
I think your Dad is extremely proud of you for continuing his love. Thank you for sharing the love and passion!
Best looking American car ever-will never be dethroned
What about the Ford gt40?
63' split window has a soft spot in my heart.
However. Most importantly it is oldschool. For me its the Shelby Cobra 👌
Agreed but The queen is the '63 Split window.
Amen
"I don't even turn on the radio." That's what I'm talking about.
Leslie, such incredible story.
This is not only a strong bound from your daddy, this is his bridge to immortality.
Congratulations.
Oh I like your way of describing her story. Do you have a legacy like this with a car?
@@WarriorsPhoto Hi Ricky, yes, we’re rebuilding from scratch a 1954 Chevrolet with my son and my dad. Three generations laying hands on it. I hope to be able to keep it going on to our next generations.
The image of a kid helping us in a ole farm shop, an old dog lying on the gate, it’s a perfect feeling and sightseeing. In spite of living in the city, we have a farm 50miles away.
I can only hope being contributing to build my 7-old son character with good examples, and create good memories.
@@festrella.barros Yes this experience will.
Beautiful! This is the era of Corvette my dad wanted, but it just didn’t happen. RIP, pops.
Very touching story. Good on ya for keeping, and driving Dad's car Leslie.
And keeping the original paint too
got my dads 59 vette when he passed away 2 years ago... love driving the car because everytime i look to the sky when driving i think of him... RIP dad
That's why I bought a Corvette from 1969 last year, getting it restored so it can last for years and I can create these memories.
This production was/is soo good. The only thing that made it not perfect was that someone in my house started chopping a whole bunch of onions.
Beautiful story :) Gotta love how she decided to be loyal & keep the car stock
This is glorious! I love that it's a maintained car and NOT restored! The patina tells a story. Restoring it would actually ruin the car for me.
Beautiful story. My brother and I now share my father's 65 big block. He owned it since 1986. I understand your feelings completely. Enjoy your gift.
A very nice story. The best part for me is that your Corvette is a true survivor. Nobody has modified the car and it appears original. To me, that is the true pinnacle of car ownership. That makes it a time machine.
Oh, your dad is definitely proud. It's obvious how you appreciate the car. "I respect the fact that it's older" - that's one of the best sentences I've ever heard someone talking about a car.
Such a heartwarming story! I love driving my 1964 Corvette Coupe… It’s my weekend cruiser.
We are all care takers. Ive had similar conversations with my father as well. Thanks for sharing the drive 🤙
I love the story, never let the car go if you can.
Wonderful story, thank you. I’m the motorhead daughter of a car guy, totally relate. I miss him so much 💔
Lovely, remember me my childhood when at 12yo my dad « teach » me how to drive with a 64 corvette in France 🥰
Top notch Leslie !! Your a credit to the Corvette hobby. Your father would be proud for sure !!
One of the best stories yet!
Great car, great story, great video production. The shot of the Corvette on the bridge at the end is stunning.
I'm very proud of this woman...
My son bought a 1966 Buick Skylark in honor of the year his mother and I were married. He in the process of restoring it and I can't wait to drive it.
Great story and beautiful Corvette. Always uplifting to see someone actually drive their cars vs putting them away in a garage never to be enjoyed. Definitely wise to listen to friends on not painting that work of art. Original is always best. Hopefully on down the line you will pass this car on down to your son or daughter.
Love this story. I can definitely resonate to this. The car is the instrument to our life journeys. My mentor passed in 2017 but I manage to acquire his 1971 Alfa 1750 GTV as a memory to all the in-car conversations and growing up advices he imparted to me.
What an awesome story and car.
I’m sure your dad is looking at you with a big smile on his face.
Great that you have all the documentation and pictures with the car too. Thank you for sharing.
Driving a vintage corvette make me smile.
What a great story! The connection with your dad, plus leaving the car original and unrestored, the way he knew it, are very special.
I always said driving was my meditation and nobody understood me, glad to hear there are others that feel the same...... Beautiful story!!
This is a great story. The car itself is wonderful, but the fact that Leslie is able to share the same experience of driving this car, just as her father had done before her, is what is most special. It's nice to see that she has left the car as original as possible. It surely must help to amplify the common/shared experience.
I had a 66 Corvette back in 1974, my senior year in high school. I will never forget that car and the fun I had with it and my friends. Orande paint with a 427 Turbo jet engine....miss it.
What a wonderful story ! I’m glad you get it , and not just store it away looking at it . Happy drives !
So good idea “Why I Drive” 👏🏻👏🏻
Funny, my dad had a 1980 corvette and we would do similar things like me in the back watching out of the back window. I also own that car since his passing almost 20 years ago.
Dad is smiling from ear to ear, well done Leslie. 👏
I actually shed a happy tear and said a quick prayer of thanks for this story.
DRIVE!
Much Love, Coop.
GOD BLESS YOUR DAD.. HE MUST HAVE BEEN A COOL GUY..ONE OF THD GREATEST CARS OF ALL TIME. ENJOY FROM CLEVELAND OHIO.....
Your father was a remarkable man and his heritage lives on in you. God Bless
I love this series!
Beautiful car. Beautiful story. I'm so thankful I found this channel, pls keep it up!
A great story. Keep on driving that wonderful car so others can see it and enjoy it as well!
Happiest of a Father’s Day to your dad. Thank you for caring and sharing this piece with all of us. ❤
Great story! Your dad would be proud.
I agree, don't paint it. You can keep the patina, and maybe get the paint buffed out and some protectant/wax treatment. The same goes for the inside. Get everything deep cleaned and apply some vinyl & leather protectant and polish the chrome. Worn areas are just "character".
Also you have great records and history, I'd scan and categorize it.
Leslie, that is an amazing tribute to your Dad.
This is a great story! Love the patina and the aspect of the care this '66 receives.
I love the rock chips and the imperfections. Perfect.
Good on you for being the caretaker of your pops Corvette. Not only does the car belong to you now but so do HIS memories of that he shared with you. Thank you for keeping the passion alive!
I'M A 68yr OLD GEARHEAD
.... I'VE GOT A 69 CHEVELLE SS ...... ALSO HAD ONE WHEN I WAS A SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL IN 1971 .... WHEN YOU TRULY LOVE A CAR .....
IT'S SOUNDS CRAZY....IT LOVES YOU BACK .... SOMETIMES I DESCRIBE IT AS BEING A
"CAR JUNKIE" ..... THE CAR IS ALWAYS A TOP PRIORITY ... MAYBE NOT
NUMBER ONE .... BUT IN THE TOP 5 AT LEAST !!!!!!
THE 327 IS NOT A MONSTER ENGINE BUT WILL GIVE YOU A GOOD RELIABLE FEEL OF THE ROAD AND THE SENSATION THAT YOU HAVE LEFT ALL THE CRAP BEHIND YOU AND YOU GET AWAY ....
NOW ... GET SOME VERY GOOD DUST FREE BRAKES NOW !!!! AND YOU WON'T NEED ANY MORE PARTS ... ALSO DRAIN THE BRAKE FLUID AND REPLACE IT WITH THE BEST DOT-4 .. FLUID YOU CAN FIND ... THAT SHOULD KEEP THE BRAKES IN GOOD CONDITION AND DON'T LET THEM WEAR DOWN TOO MUCH BEFORE YOU REPLACE THEM ... I'M NOT A CORVETTE SPECIALIST BUT YOU'LL PROBABLY NEED TO ADDRESS THE BUSHINGS IN THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM .... YOU COULD CHEAT THERE AND UPGRADE TO EUROTHAIN
BUSHINGS ... FINALLY PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE COOLING SYSTEM ... ONLY USE DISTILLED WATER AND A GOOD ANTIFREEZE THAT WILL INHIBIT RUST ... IF YOU WANT SOME EXTRA INSURANCE .... REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT WITH A RESISTOR PLATE THAT WILL KEEP IT RUNNING AROUND 190° .....
AND FINALLY ..........
DRIVE IT !!!!!!!!! IT'S A CAR ... NOT A STATUE !!!!!
I'LD TELL YOU TO GIVE IT LOVE ... BUT I THINK YOU GOT THAT ONE COVERED !!!!!! AND WHEN YOU DRINK .....
D R I V E ... PAY ATTENTION TO THE CAR AND THE ROAD !!!!!
Thank you for sharing.....he's smiling down from the heavens, proud to see you enjoying that awesome car!
Every time you drive that car you are honoring your DAD Awesome car and woman your Dad made the right choice
My '72 is my time capsule to remember my father. It doesn't hurt that it is cool for people to give me the thumbs up when tooling around in the Stingray convertible, but really, I look at the dash, and imagine my father sitting next to me when I cruise around.
This channel just became my favorite car channel on YT. The cars that are featured here are just 👍
I love this channel and all the series on it...
Man, I totally feel where this guy was coming from and no doubt alot of us reading feeling the same 💪✊
Awesome story and I’m sure her Dad is proud of her. What a great car!
Love these kinds of stories, and this is a great one. Dad is definitely proud of you as are we.
Moving video. 👍🏻🇺🇸👍🏻🇺🇸
Excellent. Great car, great memories I'm sure. All the better for the paint showing its age, in my opinion.
A MAZING. Thank you, Leslie, for sharing a piece of your life. And as an outsider - if I may be so bold - thank you for driving that Vette the way it yearns to be driven.
And oh jeez oh man, I hope your garage is not in a flood zone.
Because it's just a badass car. Says it all. So glad you enjoy it as it's supposed to be enjoyed!
This is awesome. Thanks for sharing this story.
I feel like it would appreciate a good detailing job!
yep, but not a repaint. A car is original only once.
Becoming one with your car...wonderful state of bliss.
This is a nice story.Keep passing on this car to family.
Just love your perspective Leslie.... You are surely the only person to take care of this beauty, and for sure your dad sees and knows it
Wow this is crazy almost brings me to tears. My grandpa passed 2 weeks after my 21st birthday, only think I have left from him is a hat a lot of memories… and a 96 corvette. Everything she described just hits home for me. One day “my” car will belong to my daughter also.
I am immensely proud of you continuing with the Vette. Great Ride!
Like so many others have written, what a great story and honor of your father. I have a similar story, not the same, but a tie of a Corvette to my dad, and my sons. It’s a bridge for all 3 generations.
Fantastic story. Thank you for sharing.
Best Story/Video on RUclips!
I bought my first Corvette last year and its beat up and wore out. I never really wanted one, but now I get it. C5 Z06
Meditation and driving. Indeed.
Worked in the mid-atlantic, live in the midwest and made the 500 mile drive for several years.
Definitely therapy.
Wishes for good health and happiness and continued enjoyment of fond memories
My dad also passed on his 99' Corvette on to me when his diabetes progressed. I drove it when he stopped driving. He passed away from cancer in October 2019. it's my car but I still treat it like his. It was a car that he always wanted.
That’s a great America story! So much love for your father and the Bette.😀
He's watching over you, and very proud of you. Sweet ride
Ma'am my name is Joey I'm from Texas and your voice and your story was simply beautiful, I drive a 2005 C6 Corvette and my mother often chastises me about it, it's just a toy you're wasting your money on it, when I have to send it to the shop for repairs and I try to explain to her that it's the way the car makes me feel ,as you said freedom, I wish you the best of luck and maintaining that beautiful Corvette ,believe it's a c2, my wife on the other hand enjoys it we can take the targa top off or as I like to call it the California top and go for a drive without the radio on and just enjoy the sound of the engine and the sound of the wind, take care sister,
Great, touching story- as most car people have if you take the time to listen. Thank you for sharing.
This is awesome
I love this story. Woman this sentimental for you.
I'm supposed to be going on lunch break at work but me being me I'm locked in the bathroom watching this.
Every once in a while you come across a good story on youtube..an this was a really awesome story.. every Dad that owns a corvette that wants one of his kids to hopefully own it someday an take care of it the way he intended.. awesome story..
When I was 5 our next-door neighbors had a white Corvette Coupe with red interior, and I thought it was the most beautiful car I'd ever seen, I still think the C2 coupe is the most beautiful car ever built.
What memories...
Beautiful. Great photo of you parents on their wedding day in the corvette. Enjoy the ride your dad is with you. Robert Sico.
Very inspiring story. This car has a life of its own and is taking you along for the journey. I'm certain that it every time you park it after a spin, it awaits its next blast on those incredible Tennessean roads. You greatly value it and it rewards you...don't ever sell this Corvette.
I know that feeling of feeling to be out of this world or that it's like being on an holyday each time you drive. I wish you to enjoy it for as long as you want. Keep on driving.
Wonderful story, thank you yet again Hagerty for bringing these to us.
She's a perfect *steward* for the car - and hopefully she's made provision for someone
to assume stewardship of the car upon her own exit as well.
It's important, people - it's *vitally* important that we find the right people to carry on
caring and preserving our special interest cars, for they are a big part of our history,
in addition to being the culmination of the previous owners' efforts.
Thank YOU Leslie - for caring enough to do this!
-Ed on the Ridge
I think your dad was already as proud of you. He wanted you to have and enjoy the Vette the way he did. Also possibly, to remind you of his love for you.
Way to go. Your dad is very proud of you. 🤙
Great car. Equally great story!
This is a great story. I envy Ms. Cisco a little. I hope she continues to drive and enjoy the 'Vette.👍
That's a great story Leslie I believe as well your dad would be proud it's a beautiful car and the fact that he handed it down to you and that it meant so much to him God bless you and your family and thanks for sharing
Had a interesting conversation with a guy with a '63 Fuelie split window at a caffiene and octane here in Atlanta a few months ago. He bought it new and was his daily driver for years. I asked if any of his children were interested, "my daughter, the others could care less". Making a easy choice for him to where the car would go.
Good for you, take good care of your Father's Corvette. I had a 1974 and 1984 vette, I miss my 74 till this day 47 years ago.
I absolutely loved this. Thank you to everyone involved in making this short film.
Great car, wonderful story and someone who not only loved her father but respected him. Lovely !
Smart man. His daughter driving it absolutely priceless. Keep it in the family
You drive it!! Who cares if it’s not perfect. It’s all about the drive anyway. So many people get so caught up in having a fully restored perfect car it results in down time. Sometimes it ends up being down forever and not back on the road. Take care of it, maintain it and drive it 👍🏻
Awesome car! I had a 65 convertible years ago. I still miss it!
