I think I'll wait until Ryobi wakes up and does this for their 40V platform (and comes without batteries, since I already own their 21" 40V mower with PLENTY of extra batteries). AND gets more realistic on pricing.
Good plan. I purchased the 18v model and immediately regretted not getting the corded model since 18v batteries drain in no time. It's asinine that they went through 18v route here.
They really need to offer a tool-only version for all of us who have tons of Ryobi batteries already. They sold this in the UK for like a year before it was available in the US and on UK Amazon you can buy it as tool only for like $220 (but to get it in the US you'd have to pay $100 shipping)
Thank you for the opportunity, Jimmy. This would be perfect; Because I help a couple of my neighbors with their lawns out here in tooele and lugging around extension cords is the worst. Great review. Good luck to everyone that enters.
I think one of the best parts is that you do not have a power cord following you around the yard. Would love to have this another tool in my lawn equipment lineup!
As a 76 yea old disabled Vet living in a very rural area that does not provide lawn services, this would make me very happy and definitely improve the condition of my neglected lawn.
I'm a new homeowner and DIYer. I've been slowly building up my Ryobi arsenal, and was excited to see that they included a dethatcher to its list of products AND it's cordless. It'd really help me step up my lawn game!
Hi Jimmy, 16 year vet here; I've been following Allen and your channel for awhile now, and my lawn has really been looking great the past 2 years. However, this spring I had a really bad outbreak of Red Thread, initially thought it was just a small area that hadn't come out of winter dormancy. Anyway, went back through Allen's vidz and that's how I figured it out. But it had spread to 75% of my turf; I used Allen's suggestion (diseasex/propaconazol/nitrogen/mow & bag), saved most of it, it looks good but I suffered lots of damage. Would love this to pull up the dead stuff and overseed this fall. Thanks for the content and help you provide to us DIYers. And I do have the pics before, during and after infection
I like seeing a well established company bring out more tools for battery ecosystems I already own. Can't wait to see what else Ryobi brings to market!
I have been waiting for this to come to the US for a while. I was a bit disappointed by the price point, considering its more than twice the price of higher rated (so far) corded competitors. Thanks for showing it on a real lawn. Keep up the good work.
Great review & video! Bottom line is I have never dethatched my yard & I think this machine could take it to the next level. My wife doubts this can make any difference, help me prove her wrong! Also, I have to keep up with the retired folks in my neighborhood, domination time! Thanks for all of the informational videos.
I would LOVE this. We just remodeled our new home, and I have started on the landscaping. There is years of neglected dethatching and this is a much needed tool so I don’t have to manually dethatch it with my dethatching rake! Let’s gooooooo!
I've been waiting for that to come out but $429. I can't see paying that much even though I have alot of Ryobi tools and yard stuff thanks for the sharing and post
This ryobi dethatcher seems to be amazing!!!!! You don’t have to drag 100’ of cord around anymore. And looks like does a amazing job. While still being well made and versatile with all the other tools in their line up. I would love to have a chance to get my hands on this. I have been trying to overhaul my yard, dads, and father in-lawns. All at the same time I went to school for nursery/landscape maintenance and currently am working a Vanderbilt legends golf course as head horticulturist. Getting this would allow me to dethatch the clubhouse while still being quite to allow water, oxygen, nutrients down to the roots. Also be able to get seed down to the soil!!!!! Ha maybe this will be the game changer to have the leg up on my neighbor 3 doors down that I compete with!!!!😃
Just watched this video. I currently have a SunJoe dethatcher/scarifier. Your video using the SunJoe was one of the reasons I chose to buy it. My yard, however, is about 3800 square feet of grass. Towing a cord along with my SunJoe is a bit cumbersome, so getting one of these Ryobi systems would be great. I love the SunJoe, so I definitely trust your review. Love the videos. Keep up the good work.
I’m a first time homeowner and this will be my first full season with my Bermuda lawn. Love your content. I’ve already gone battery powered with an ego mower, blower, and multi tool. Cordless de-thatching and scarifying looks awesome but the price point definitely seems HIGH.
Tool seems awesome on the initial impression. I am on year one of trying to rehab and renovate our lawn. The Ryobi dethatcher tool would come in super handy this fall when I do my over seed project.
Having cordless dethatcher is so much more convenient than using extension cords. I agree it is a bit expensive. It looks like batteries run about $79 or higher for the high performance ones. I appreciate your channel Jimmy and your gentle demeanor. Blessings to you.
Great to see your channel continue to grow... watching for years now and couldn't wait for spring to start and the increase in you content... This is definitely on my wish list for this year. It's year 3 after my complete renovation and time to take it to the next step. Thanks again!!!
Omg my husband is a Ryobi freak and he would love this! We are first time home buyers of 2 years now and our lawn is in desperate need of dethatching. Thank you for doing this giveaway!
My yard needs a lot of love after buying my house last year and guessing it wasn't taken care of in the last 8 to 10 years. It needs a good cleaning and without a cord this dethatcher would be a great tool.
Thanks for the review. Glad to see more companies are making these machines. I love them so much. What's up with the pink flamingo? All you lawn RUclipsrs have them, but what do they represent? Some sort of secret combination?
I have a sunjoe dethatcher and as much as I love the sunjoe, I’m heavily into Ryobi line and this would be a great addition! I hope they come up with a 40v version too
My oh my I would love to win this. Thank you for providing a thorough review. I’m new to the channel and just subscribed after seeing this. Even if I don’t win, I’ll probably look into picking one up at some point.
I’ve been waiting for this one! As I’ve been super stoked ever since the reveal at the sneak peek in Alyn’s video. My only negative is that they didn’t make it for the 40V lineup yet.
Awesome review! I’m a ryobi guy and have been anxiously anticipating this coming out. Definitely heftier price tag than I hoped, but would love to have the flexibility of the batteries to use on my lawn!
Great review! I’ve been detaching with a manual detacher & it’s hard work. I considered buying a cordless one, but the price point is a bit high for me . This will definitely be on my Mother’s Day wish list. 🤪
Jimmy! Nice video. Good call on the verbiage. I had the pleasure of visiting the TTI facility in Anderson, SC for my job this past week and got to test this thing out and gave them the same feedback on using “aerator” as I do not find this to be the primary function of this machine.
Really disappointed that this isn’t part of the 40v line. Also, like you said a lot of people probably already have some Ryobi tools, so this only coming in a combo box and not tool only is frustrating.
I've been looking for a dethactcher and doing some research. I was originally looking into Greenworks and SunJoe. Added both to my amazon cart at one point and couldn't pull the trigger on either. I then watched your video on the comparison and decided SunJoe was the way to go BUT I didn't want to mess with cords so was looking for information on battery life with the SunJoe dethatcher. That's when I came across this video and was instantly SOLD! Like many others out there I am already invested in the Ryobi 18V system and already have multiple tools and batteries for this. Ryobi is the clear cut answer for me on this. A chance to win one in your giveaway would be amazing, especially given the cost difference between the Ryobi and the competitors mentioned above.
After using the SunJoe for the first time a few weeks ago, I realize how much a battery powered one is necessary. Would love to try this one and already have a pretty good amount of Ryobi tools as well. Great review!
Appreciate what you do! I have a lot of work ahead of me to restore my lawn. I already have multiple Ryobi one + tools and I'll definitely be in the market for one. Good luck to all!
Thanks for the video. I've experienced the pain that comes from lugging a cord around with lawn tools and would love to be able to dethatch and scarify without worrying about running over the cord!
I would love that tool…my wife and me are beginners lawn geeks!! My new perennial ryegrass is dying from grass clippings. If I’m not mistaken last year the same tool was introduced in Europe for less than $200. $400 is very steep. Maybe the right price should be $259 to $299.
Tried a dethatcher machine from a family member for the first time last year and was impressed with the results, I definitely need to add to my arsenal! Great video!
I’m needing Toro engineers to work double time to expand their 60v line to include a dethatcher & aerator before I invest in another system for those. It would be cool to see Toro include a rotary scissor attachment with their power head and a 60v reel mower!
After moving into our house 5+ years ago, I got the greenworks dethatcher. And it's helped a lot. However I've switched the backyard to Bermuda and really wish I had one of the 2n1 machines that can 'verticut'.
I'd love this for the cordless feature. I have tons of Ryobi tools both hand tool line and the trimmer/edger and blower so this would be a great addition
I had no idea about dethatching until your videos. My lawn has never been dethatched and needs work. Lots of dead grass entangled in it. Love the vids and hopefully I get lucky!
I was searching battery operated dethatchers before the video was even over lol I'd love the chance to own this. I agree with a lot of comments that the proce tag is just too hefty but jts a great tool that I'd love to try before I reseed my lawn.
My lawn is jealous of your lawn. I have lived with this lawn for 4 years, always looking for ways to improve it. Browsing today I saw a corded Sun Joe at Amazon. while researching that I saw your comparison of the Sun Joe vs Greenworks (?) and enjoyed it very much. Not too wordy, straight to the point and good visuals. I agreed that I would like a cordless. THEN - WHAT!!? You had a video of one, and a Ryobi at that. I have accumulated Ryobi tools sense they were Blue & Yellow (hurt because I am a MSU fan). Any-who, they fixed that. AND THEN A GIVE-AWAY??!! So here I am entering. Looking forward to more vids - Thanks.
Awesome review, just started following you recently for yard advice. I would love this for my front yard. Back yard is too big for this size. i use a JD rider with pull behind on back yard.
Thanks for the awesome videos. This looks like a great dethatcher. Better than the pull behind one I had to use. Hopefully I'll get lucky. Trying to make the yard look like yours.
Great review Jimmy! It looks like it's better built than the sunjoe cordless. The sunjoe is much easier to change the cartridge though. One thumb screw and the plastic retaining piece swings out of the way. The battery life is about the same between the two. Sunjoe batteries get really hot though, especially in temps over 70.
I’ve used the Ryobi corded dethatcher before and it’s worked great. Obviously, a battery powered one would be even better as to not have the hassle of the cord management. Great video!
Great review sir! Going cordless would be great dragging the cord around with my current greenworks is a pain. I will be doing a KBG Mazama reno this fall and this would be great to use for that prep.
I have been looking at this unit for a while. I love Ryobi equipment. This would be a big replacement for having to rent a unit or pay a landscaper to do the spring and fall cleanup only.
Great review video. I’m curious if they will make this in 40v as well? I have some Ryobi OPE already in my arsenal, although most of my spare batteries are 40v and I only have a single 18 volt battery. I would love to add this tool to my arsenal because I’ve never dethatched or scarified my lawn before. I’ve considered buying the Sun Joe, but with a cordless option on the market, it’s hard to pull the trigger.
Awesome review I'm really considering getting one now that I watched your video. I really like what your favorite part is about it... it is battery powered cordless is a big deal to me. I can't stand dragging the cord with me through the lawn. Great video I like that you appreciate and take care of your lawn super nicely I watch your videos and take notes I want my lawn to look nice as well. Take care 👍
Picked up one of these after seeing this. Have done two passes….5 stuffed 50 gallon trash bags of stuff removed from my yard. Wish it had a tool only option but still worth it.
Wow, that looks solid. I'm stoked it uses the same batteries... it'd be easy to go from dethatching the lawn to sanding down a wood project. 😉 I didn't realize RYOBI was in the game. That's awesome. I would love to use this on my neighbors yard. Gotta share the love with the neighbors. 💕
I hardly ever comment on videos, but I enjoyed your software engineer comment. Gotta love starting at 0 and ending at N-1. Also, great content; keep it up!
I have been a Ryobi tool fan for a while now and now started to switch my lawn tools from gas to electric. This would be a great addition to my collection. I have recently gotten into and really enjoyed lawn care. I have lived in my home (new build) since June 1st 2018 and have never dethatched but something I’m looking forward to. Great content and awesome giveaway.
Wow I’ve been on the look out for a dethatcher and that one nice, compact and battery operated. As a first time home owner and new to maintaining the lawn I would really benefit from having one and getting all the thatch out and improving the lawn.
I’ve been needing to get a dethatching machine, but just didn’t want to go with a corded tool. This looks like you get a lot of great features in just one tool. Love that you can mix and match batteries! 🙌🏼
Been in the same house all my life - 50+ years - (bought house from parents!) and I have never dethatched! I think it is time. I have invested in other Ryobi items (pole saw, drill, driver drill, sander, etc) and would love to be given an opportunity to add this to my Ryobi collection. Thanks.
Giveaway is closed! Thanks to all who have entered. I will have a video out asap announcing the winner!
I think I'll wait until Ryobi wakes up and does this for their 40V platform (and comes without batteries, since I already own their 21" 40V mower with PLENTY of extra batteries). AND gets more realistic on pricing.

I agree!!! As I have a dozen or so of the 4ah and 6ah high performance batteries…
Thank you for the opportunity, Jimmy. This would be perfect; Because I help a couple of my neighbors with their lawns out here in tooele and lugging around extension cords is the worst. Great review. Good luck to everyone that enters.
Ryobi has done it again, way to understand your customer’s needs. Losing the cord is huge, wireless dethatching for the win!
I was very excited to get one too. Until the price went up to $429. Crazy
I'm a new homeowner and DIYer. I've been slowly building up my Ryobi arsenal, and was excited to see that they included a dethatcher to its list of products AND it's cordless. It'd really help me step up my lawn game!
Dragging the chord around has been on of the main things keeping me from "pulling the plug" on one of these. Awesome!
Hi Jimmy, 16 year vet here; I've been following Allen and your channel for awhile now, and my lawn has really been looking great the past 2 years. I'd love to have one mostly because the giveaway closes on my birthday. That would be an awesome present. Great review Jimmy. 👍🏼
This ryobi dethatcher seems to be amazing!!!!! You don’t have to drag 100’ of cord around anymore. And looks like does a amazing job. While still being well made and versatile with all the other tools in their line up.

This would make a great father's day present. Your videos are helping me fix my ugly lawn. Thank you.
Great to see a cordless option, I wonder if they'll offer a tool only option for Ryobi fanatics. or maybe switching to the 40v option for extended use
Just watched this video. I currently have a SunJoe dethatcher/scarifier. Your video using the SunJoe was one of the reasons I chose to buy it. My yard, however, is about 3800 square feet of grass. Cordless de-thatching and scarifying looks awesome but the price point definitely seems HIGH.
Would love to get this model. Thanks for taking time to review for us Jimmy
Never had a dethatcher to use on my front lawn but this would be ideal for my bermuda grass lawn.
Tool seems awesome on the initial impression. I am on year one of trying to rehab and renovate our lawn. The Ryobi dethatcher tool would come in super handy this fall when I do my over seed project.

Great review, steep price point! Learned a ton from your videos and have always wanted to try dethatching. Thank Jimmy, maybe I'll get lucky!
Supreme giveaway Jimmy! Looks like a good little unit, and I'm set for the One Plus batteries. Thanks for the content!!
Great to see your channel continue to grow... watching for years now and couldn't wait for spring to start and the increase in you content... This is definitely on my wish list for this year. It's year 3 after my complete renovation and time to take it to the next step. Thanks again!!!
My parents need one for cutting their grass tall. I used the corded one, but they can benefit from doing it consistently from winter kill.
The flamingos have hidden powers. I have them in my yard too 🤣
The freedom of no cord would be awesome. Looks like it works great .
I am planning a complete renovation of my front lawn this fall, so I think this dethatcher could really help things out.
I have a sunjoe dethatcher and as much as I love the sunjoe, I’m heavily into Ryobi line and this would be a great addition! I hope they come up with a 40v version too
The 2 18v batteries are effectively 40v, in fact if you put a voltmeter on them in series you'll get about 39v

Great review! I’ve been detaching with a manual detacher & it’s hard work. I considered buying a cordless one, but the price point is a bit high for me . This will definitely be on my Mother’s Day wish list. 🤪
Thank you for your honest opinion! This item looks super awesome to help improve my lawn.
Cordless is the only way to go. I would love to win this, My lawn desperately needs dethatching, Thanks for the giveaway, Tom
Ryobi has been improving on expanding into a broader market. Good stuff here
Thanks for the review, Jimmy. This will fit in awesome in my existing Ryobi tool set!
Jimmy! Nice video. Good call on the verbiage. I had the pleasure of visiting the TTI facility in Anderson, SC for my job this past week and got to test this thing out and gave them the same feedback on using “aerator” as I do not find this to be the primary function of this machine.
This looks like a cool piece of equipment and I have other Ryobi tools so this would fit in nicely in my lawn care program.
Really disappointed that this isn’t part of the 40v line. Also, like you said a lot of people probably already have some Ryobi tools, so this only coming in a combo box and not tool only is frustrating.
Nice video! Great review- looks to be a solid unit! This would tank through my yard, which is needed!
Looks great, I’ve been looking at these and this looks like the best option for me, thanks for the chance!
I've been looking for a dethactcher and doing some research. I was originally looking into Greenworks and SunJoe. Added both to my amazon cart at one point and couldn't pull the trigger on either. Looks like a great unit. Was a bit shocked when I saw what retail was compared to the other brands in the market.
Great review! Would love to have this to help me get my yard whipped into shape
The Timemaster is definitely the go to for cleaning up the thatch! I wonder if Ryobi will do a bare tool product for this for $250??
Great review. Would love for my lawn as its a 1 1/2 year old lawn that hasnt been dethatched yet! This would be perfect for my ~1600 sq ft lawn
Awesome review! Ryobi is changing the game!
This would be a great addition! Been waiting for a cordless version
Thanks for the review. Would love a cordless dethatcher for my small yard!
Just bought a new house and it needs a lot of work to get the lawn into good shape... this will help big time!
After moving into our house 5+ years ago, I got the greenworks dethatcher. And it's helped a lot. However I've switched the backyard to Bermuda and really wish I had one of the 2n1 machines that can 'verticut'.
I would love to use this dethatcher in my lawn. I’ve never had my lawn dethatched, but I do a lot of other lawn care in my yard each year.
I'd love this for the cordless feature. I have tons of Ryobi tools both hand tool line and the trimmer/edger and blower so this would be a great addition

I’ve been looking forward to this tool for almost 2 years. Even at the $400 price point it is still cheaper than renting one every other year.
Awesome review, just started following you recently for yard advice. I would love this for my front yard. Back yard is too big for this size. i use a JD rider with pull behind on back yard.
I’m on a journey to have the perfect lawn, and this tool will help me get there
Thanks for the awesome videos. This looks like a great dethatcher. Better than the pull behind one I had to use. Hopefully I'll get lucky. Trying to make the yard look like yours.
Hey Jimmy Great Videos Ive learned alot from them this past year and this Machine would work Great for my Lawn.
Wonder how long before they have a tool only option? Awesome review! 🍻
I have a Greenworks dethatcher and dealing with the cord has to be the hardest part of the job. Love that battery options are becoming available now.
What a machine would like this De-thatcher for my lawn business could help out with some of those lawns that really need it. Ready for the Win!!
I have been looking at this unit for a while. I love Ryobi equipment. This would be a big replacement for having to rent a unit or pay a landscaper to do the spring and fall cleanup only.
Nice. I never used a dethatcher but based on your video review, Ryobi makes it look simple and easy.
Another great video Jimmy! Price is a little steep😬 but no cord getting in the way would be awesome😁
Ryobi Detatcher and scarifier looks solid. Thanks for the opportunity to win one.
I love your content, this is a great option for my project and i will like to have it.
Will like to see the comparison between ryobi vs the sunjoe.
ryobi has come a long way i agree with your comments on the tool price is way too hi but no cord is nice great job jimmy
I have used a similar product, but corded. The cordless option the Ryobi product affords would be a game changer
I hardly ever comment on videos, but I enjoyed your software engineer comment. Gotta love starting at 0 and ending at N-1. Also, great content; keep it up!
Love it. Thanks!
Just getting into lawn care and this is one of the tools I'm looking to add on all batteries no gas
Awesome giveaway! Would love to get this dethatcher! Using a manual dethatcher right now and it is a pain lol
Been in the same house all my life - 50+ years - (bought house from parents!) and I have never dethatched! I think it is time. I have invested in other Ryobi items (pole saw, drill, driver drill, sander, etc) and would love to be given an opportunity to add this to my Ryobi collection. Thanks.
