First, it's so encouraging to see young people getting into Rush. You obviously haven't been sucked into the black hole which is today's music. As a drummer i'll say this. Neil is it and learning his drumming can only improve yours. It sounds like you "hear" him. If you're not already, get into a band that plays at least some originals. That way you can incorporate what you've learned into your own style. Rock on dude!
Used to love packing up the drumkit in the van, heading out and finding a cool place to set up. Waysides along highways,....rest areas on turnpikes,...in the desert on an unexplained slab of concrete in the middle of nowhere ("What the heck is this slab doing all the way out here? Oh well, SET UP!" :o),...even in the middle of a woods (asked the farmer first,..he came to watch with his family), and then park the van, with side doors open in back of kit and speakers BLASTING! Now, at 63, i'm just getting back into it again, after a LONG hiatus of 30 years. Car wrecks,...surgeries,...more car wrecks,...more surgeries. Not done with all the surgeries yet, but i think i'm finally well enough -- with a little help from my first foray into electronic drums, to make up for my physical limitations -- to finally try to make a comeback. Yes, at 63. It's never too late. Life's a bummer if you're not a drummer :o)
