Trying to drift a MR2

- I was fortunate enough to be invited to a private session at Driftland last week, and I've been wondering for a while how the MR2 would 'drift'. It was a challenge for sure, but just about got into a swing of things by the end of the session.

Great driving man, MR cars must be quite tricky to drift, you did well.
I've had my Mr2 on that track and it's not easy to drift it. You did really really well! That was impressive!

I’ve done corner exit oversteer but never done drifting. That looked tricky, a whole load of whirling the wheel going on. Can only imagine the short wheelbase/ rear engine combination makes it a much quicker transition and the variety of moisture levels on track looked especially challenging. You gave it a bloody good go ffs Danny, hats off to you mate. As Madge said “God loves a trier!” 😂 sending tyres to hell corner by corner...

Not an easy car to drift being a compact MR. Good effort though.

Quality seeing the mr2 drifting, usually you want it to stick. Bet it makes you miss the e36 dan, which I see in london the other day by the way.

The 'dead spot' in the airbag spiral connector is so disconcerting in the POV vid! Thought the wheel was gonna come off in your hands for a second there!

Short wheel base car are always a pain in the ass to drift, the point of no return is so small that they wip around so fast, good effort, close up boy.
MR-S don't have a "short" wheel base > 7,5cm shorter than a 2002 Subaru STi. =)

Good job!!! congrats! In the past i had a Mr2 and it's absolutely not good drift, is good for 360 spin. A simple bmw 320d with open diff is much more predictable and driftable
do you think more steering angle with those weird welded knuckles

How come you've removed most of the AutoBarn videos?
What alignment were you running on the day? setting that up helps loads on the mr2

i reckon the mr2 could do with a slightly longer final drive. i.e. a 5.1 instead of a 5.8 or a 4.7 instead of a 5.1

Doesnt he need more grip on the rear? Dont shoot me down - i dont claim to know but im calling more rear grip and and angle kit would help. Please correct me or let me know. Interested.
Danny's MR-S is track car. He just tryed his MR-S "drift-hability". So angle kit is un-necessar.
Less grip on the rear make the car oversteer easily. Axles and transmission are less stressed.
Good effort, looks like the transitions were tricky!

How much does the mr2 weight?
Well it's the lightest car on track,I'm guessing 890+ kgs + Dan's weight,so ploberly in the 900kg+
I think that Danny's MR-S weight over 1000kg.
Engine + trans : 1zz-fe (145kg) _ 2zz-ge (157kg) _ K20A (185kg).
That's why his DC2 Integra K20A has slightly better acceleration.
My 2001 MR-S 1zz-fe weight 985kg (hardtop + PPE header + sport cat + lightly stripped interior).
