The big thing he sends crashing down was a sand beetle that had a Buddha head on the back of it. The eye or something you were supposed to collect and the rat you faced helps you defeat it. It’s crazy how you easily you can miss Some things in this game or how the story can change like that

Edit: you don’t have to collect the eye per se it doesn’t affect how easily you can beat him but it is something that happens in another area before you fight him, you just found him first before you fought the beetle with him
