Some Ch. 5 context : * The animation's confusing because it jumps between three eras in an abstract way. Before, during, and after the Journey to the West. None of it is a vision, all of it happened. Like Wukong, Bull Demon King is immortal, so despite getting beheaded, he doesn't literally die, just gets subdued. * Before the journey, they were best bros and basically "demons" on the non-righteous side, with a "we should just do what we please, nobody can stop us" attitude. As mentioned, Wukong gets assigned to the journey as punishment for wreaking havoc against the celestial court. In this version, it looks like Bull Demon King assisted him, and was punished by conceiving Red Boy. * During the journey (which he gets forced into to atone for his wrongs, but also willingly reforms through lessons learned), Wukong is now on the side of righteousness/responsibilities/gods, assigned to fight demons and protect Monk Tang. It's basically like if they were both freedom-thumping libertarians and now Wukong became a liberal or something. So there's tons of tension/feelings of betrayal, demons being subdued/killed who were Bull Demon King's friends/family (some of them really deserved it), and refusal to cooperate with Wukong, who needed his wife's Iron Fan to continue the journey. The conclusion of this dispute is Bull Demon King being subdued/beheaded, with the help of the celestial forces (who are also on the side of the journey). * After the journey, it looks like Bull Demon King took Wukong's advice literally, cooperates with the Celestial Court and is among the group that takes down Wukong (when he takes on the celestial court a second time because they won't let him live out the rest of his life in peace), and is awarded with the relic of Wukong's body (all the other chapter bosses are also part of that group). * As Wukong explains, each step of the way, Bull Demon King kept making foolish choices and paying for them. Eventually, he realized that even if they do everything right, the gods will always mistrust/fear them, simply because they're "demons", which is a major theme of the game (it's what the Ch. 2 animation with the fox was about). There's a neat Chinese idiom that goes something like: "As children, we're like Wukong, defiant, reckless, and thinking that we're invincible. Then as teenagers, we become Bajie, a slave to our lust, impulses and distractions. Then as we become adults and start a family, we become Bull Demon King, a defeated shell of a person living in fear/indecision, worrying and beating ourselves up over every decision and outcome."
this game storyline is the most impressive one. It is called Black Myth for a reason. Traditionally, Buddha and celestial court give people an impression that they represent justice. In this game, these Buddha are the one controlling everything and Wukong do not want to be their dirty hand. He choose to die and split into 6 relics, hoping one day the "destined one" could inherit his will and lives without Buddha control
I understand you do not want viewers telling you to do this or that, otherwise it might ruin your first experience. In the most indirect way possible, I would simply suggest you check out the Great Pagoda in chapter 3 again, during chapter 6 (not the end of it) once you think it's time. Trust me, it'll boost your experience by a hundred fold and you'll be very happy you made the choice to go there. Hope this isn't something that annoys the experience.

oh this is an amazing write up, thank you so much for taking the time! this has helped tremendously on understanding.

It's nice to see someone actually explore in the game. Some of the well known streamers, no offense to them, just clear stuff without exploring
thats why I just watch her instead
and that's with me having cut out a bit of the extra exploration haha, thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the exploration! :)
This game is not just a game but also a piece of art. Glad you like the game !
it truly is!
Well immortality isnt wrong. There's no gameover screen, you just pass out and get tele back to shrine. 🤣
LOL you're on to something!
what is the story of the red boy and why is the heaven wants to attacked the bull king family
thank you for explaining the animation's story! it was definitely a little confusing without knowing what happens prior. I appreciate it!
@@frzack_. 红孩儿的故事看影神图就知道了,至于为什么天庭不肯放过他们,原因很简单,他们是yaoguai
