He just won the Masked Singer Suomi (Finland) as Tohtori (doctor). It was very noticeable from the beginning who it was but hilarious to see Marko sing Backstreet Boys.

Marko's voice is like sugar-coated razor blades. You never see it coming. Like Nightwish, Tarot doesn't block videos. They love the relationship that the army has with the reactors. It's all free advertising to them. I wish all bands were that smart.

Marko was announced the winner of the Finnish version of The Masked Singer. He sang Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Gangsta's Paradise, Kiss (Prince) and Everybody (Backstreet Boys). He also covers Dio era Black Sabbath (in Finnish) with a band called Sapattivuosi. This guy is awesome!

If you want to get an idea of how Marko has progressed as a singer, I'd suggest watching watching the video they did for MTV: Headbangers Ball. It was done in 1986, I think. There's no denying these guys' talent. The fact that, in the '90s, he had an injury and was expected to never be able to sing professionally again is a testament to this.
Awesome reaction and probably my favorite Marko vocal performance is Nightwish covering high hopes by Pink Floyd live from their end of an era concert. Hopefully you'll get to it sooner or later.

Marko has been doing this kind of grittier or balls to the wall type of singing since the early 80s so I am pretty sure he can now sing in a way that doesn't hurt his voice in the long run even if goes all out every once in awhile 👍🏼

He actually lost his ability to sing for a while after getting vocal
Cord surgery. He got %70 of his singing ability back with the help of floor jansens coaching

That’s not true. He got his operation as early as 1996. He had to learn how to speak and sing again back then. He got his woice back by heavy training, only lost his upper falsetto for good.
Floor came to Nighwish at the end of 2012. Ofcourse she might have given him some tips since then.

P.S. Sad to say that Tarot is no more as their drummer died in 2016 & in one interview Marko said that they most likely will not continue. But hey, we still have Nightwish.

Yeeeah, you definitely need few more songs to hear all he does with them. Phantom of the opera, while your lips are still red, yours is an empy hope will surely let you hear him whole, and not just the calm old man telling a story sitting around a fire.

Please, take look at 'Everybody Dies' by Ayreon, at least 3 singers you know, Hansi, Tommy and Mike. I think Arjen long ago said it wouldn't be possible to perform his music on stage. Luckily he reconsidered that later, this one was performed in Tilburg, think in 2017. Enjoy 😎😉
Marco sings with Jarkko Ahola in Northern Kings - a super cover group of four metal singers transforming everything to metal. Marco and Jarkko even released a duet Roisin Dubh on one of the albums, lol.

You really need to listen to him sing Pink Floyd High Hopes with Nightwish. It is spectacular!
Tommi "Tuple" Salmela is also af formidable singer. He has been performing with Tarot alot. He has also solo production.

Tarot since 1982 together with his brother
According to Marco's autobiography, he lost his voice as a consequence of an unnecessary vocal cord surgery (polyp removal). The surgery took place in the 1990's and he had to learn to sing again. As a result, he lost his falsetto and still have some nerve damage causing difficulties to sync vocal folds. Floor has probably coached Marco at some point but probably not before 2013 and there's nothing about this coaching in the autobiography. Little correction. Marko lost his clean falsetto, not the whole falsetto.
The stories about Floor coaching Marko exist only in youtube comments and fantasies of fans.
It might not have been so much of a great deal, but I would not be surprised, if Floor had coached Marco at some point.
They are real good friends, she is so profound in her technique, seems to be a decent teacher and is a sweet person.
It might not have been "saving his voice", but still... Why not help, if you can?
I read somewhere, that she also coached Simone Simons, in the past. Don't know if that is true though.

Someone said -> "Marko had to have surgery 20 years ago when they found some lumps in his vocal folds. Because of that he had to re-learn singing and his voice changed." So maybe that has something to do with his singing?

Poet and the Pendulum bridge is really aggressive too and The Greatest Show on Earth bridge his voice gets really wacky.

@@NightwishArena Now I am curious. I was going by something I had read, too damned many years ago. That story included loss of a cord and having to relearn to sing. BUT, I can't find mention of it on the English resources. The only three Finnish words I 'know' are vulgar, so no hope there of searching Finnish resources for proper info... I will quietly shutup and slink away until I get better info. :)
@@williamklett6660 Lol, we don't have vulgar words in Finnish. They might be that outside of Finland, but here we use them in our daily basis since we learn to talk =P

I am guessing you haven’t reacted to too much Nightwish then, if you were blown away by this.
Marco sings like this a lot with Nightwish and I believe that up until COVID lockdowns were put in place Nightwish had a record of never cancelling a show (even when Annette was rushed to hospital, you will need to watch “learn the set list in 48 hours” for that story).
Marco has an Amazing vocal range and has an incredibly versatile voice too.
He did have botched surgery on his vocal chords back in the early 90’s and I believe he re learnt how to sing again to the incredible level he still performs at today.
