    I know you commented on Marco sounding very different on this song than what he does now.
    Of course he's younger, but he also had, badly done, surgery on his vocal cords sometime in the nineties that for a while left him unable to sing and when he taught himself to sing again he couldn't sing the same way due to some tissue damage from the surgery.

    • @annukkas
      @annukkas 4 года назад +9

      Well that sucks. But considering, he really sounds amazing nowadays, too. In fact, I kind of like his sound more now. It fits perfectly with Nightwish and has more personality. But, before or after that surgery, he is a very good singer.

      @phillee2814 4 года назад +11

      There can't be many people who have made it to world-class vocals not just once, but twice.
      In fact, I can't think of anyone else who has been able to come back with a different voice after such a misfortune and reached the top level again. Although I like the cleaner tone in his first incarnation as a vocalist more, he has found a niche for his unique second incarnation vocal method which is awesome.
      Yes, I know a lot have come back from throat surgery, but always with the same voice, to the best of my knowledge.
      He had to learn a completely different way of singing - so unique that I doubt if any vocal coach could help.

    Tides as mentioned would be super cool. Also from native English speaker would like to hear some analysis on lyrics of Warhead, wich to me are just pure genius. Song is also super cool. And tons of others as well.

    Glad to see you picked up on this, freaking love this exists in tandem with the re-recording... and the fact that for once, a band didn't absolutely murder (in a bad way) the track they were re-doing. Both are gold, and a great slice of Marko's evolution.

    Love the Stryper vibes from the clothing. When you asked for Tarja era Nightwish, I was concerned about suggesting older stuff because the video quality is generally going to be crap due to the era. But if you're down to do this, the music vid for Nemo is going to look great.
    Oh this opens up so much great old stuff!
    Blind Guardian - Bright Eyes (the one on their official channel has CRAP audio, this one is the original video over HQ audio) - ruclips.net/video/Aoi5RIiwAWc/видео.html
    Helloween - I Want Out (mv from 1988 but with good sound) - ruclips.net/video/FjV8SHjHvHk/видео.html

    Maybe you should watch some Hanoi Rocks next. That band was the early ancestor of Finnish metal bands and great inspiration for Guns'n'roses. They actually copied their style almost directly from Hanoi Rocks, and even some lyrics.
    ------------------
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanoi_Rocks quote (very good wiki article):
    Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett says "The Hollywood scene changed in just one night after people saw the pictures of Hanoi Rocks. After that everyone was wearing the same kind of hair, clothes and make up as Monroe". Michael Monroe and Hanoi Rocks have often been mentioned as the starters of the Hollywood's glam-rock scene, which was then adopted and developed by many 1980s glam, punk, and hard rock bands like Mötley Crüe, Jetboy, LA Guns and Poison.
    Even though Hanoi Rocks influenced many 1980s glam bands, some feel that these bands ripped off Hanoi Rocks. In 2008 Joe Elliott, frontman of English hard rock band Def Leppard, described his dislike of 1980s glam metal bands like Mötley Crüe and Poison, and said this about Hanoi Rocks:
    "The only band - and I'm not saying it because we're here (Sweden Rock Festival) - the only band that did pull it off was Hanoi Rocks. I thought Hanoi Rocks were a good band, and they looked… Michael Monroe (Hanoi frontman) was one of the best… I would have shagged him. [Laughs] I like Michael, I think he's sexy, and I'm not gay. And I think Andy McCoy (Hanoi guitarist) does the best kind of Keith Richards... so much better than Mötley Crüe or Poison or any of those bands. They (Hanoi Rocks) were real - the rest of the guys, it was all a bit fake for me."
    -----------------
    Michael Monroe deserves his own reaction, but I suggest that you start with Hanoi Rocks and a song called "Tragedy", which indeed came to be a prophecy for them. Mötley Crue's Vince Neal was driving intoxicated, and his passenger, Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle got killed. This concert was just month later:

      Then right after Hanoi Rocks came Tarot and Stone. I think Stone has influenced even more heavily for amount of metal bands in Finland (world's #1 per capita). Stone is next level from early Metallica and Megadeth. Bit more heavy, and very cool guitar stuff. Then we have "Sentenced", which was one of the great ancestors together with "Amorphis".
      It's a bit sad, that this Metal era is soon about to "end". We don't have free training bunkers for bands like we used to have. No deserted houses, and they are also demolishing all old schools etc. Everything has became so expensive, that it will lower amount of bands itself.

    Wow! I love Marco but never took the time to listen to Tarot, so thanks for that :) It's fun to see him so young. Still got the same facial expressions though!
    Would love to see reactions of his new solo album, Pyre of the Black Heart. I ended up buying both the english and finnish version of the album as I couldn't decide which version I liked most :p I don't think I've seen it suggested but Runner of the Railways is really fun. Definitely recommend it :)

    When Metallica's "and justice for all" came out, I bought it and did not like it. I traded it to my friend for the Tarot's first album and I still think I made a great trade. I have spend countless hours writing demo software listening to this album. This song always brings a memory of how Amiga's machine code monitor looked like...
