Peter and Gordon. British Invasion greats with extraordinary harmonies. Peter's sister, Jane, was dating Paul McCartney, who wrote😅 the songs WOMAN, A WORLD WITHOUT LOVE for P&G. The duo also sang TRUE LOVE WAYS, I GO TO PIECES, and LADY GODIVA.

As a 12/13 year old, I was so blessed to have lived in Scotland when all the great British bands were coming to be. I heard the start of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dave Clark Five, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Chad and Jeremy, Peter and Gordon...so many more. We moved back to the US in late 1963 so, I was able to introduce all my friends to them all while, at the same time, they introduced me to Motown. It was an exciting time for music.
You have done a couple of the Dave Clark 5, how about trying, “Can’t you see that’s she’s mine”, “Catch us if you can” and “Bits and Pieces”. "Because" is one of my all time favorite songs! Also, try another British invasion duo Chad and Jeremy, “A summer song”, and “Yesterday’s gone, both excellent!!!! Easy listening Rock and Roll.
I love seeing how my generation's music transcends the ages. DC 5 were one of my favorite bands as a little girl of 8/9 yrs old. I was in love with Mike Smith ...lead vocals/ keyboard... Oh those days were so sweet. You younger people have no idea just how special the 60s were....more than any other decade since. My generation may have given our parents lots of heartaches with the onset of widespread drug use ... protests and such, but what we did give the world was THE best music .... unparalleled!!!
It's The Left Banke. I too love "Walk Away Renee" which is the song they probably should hear first, but I love "Pretty Ballerina" even more which I also highly recommend.
You should also listen the Mindbenders singing A Groovy King Of Love & Gerry and the Pacemakers singing Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying. Both British ground groups of the 60s. Great music.
@dianefurlong2911 Same here! Dave Clark 5, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Beau Brummels, American Breed, etc. And all heard on my 7 transistor radio. Wish I had it yet. Oh, I have others, just not my first one.
Interesting info: Most artists were not good business people. Dave Clark was a smart, astute businessman in an era that saw many artists taken advantage of by unscrupulous managers. He struck business deals that allowed him to produce the band's recordings and gave him ownership and control of the master recordings. He became very wealthy. They were the first band to have their own private airplane.
On the negative side, Dave kept so much of a closed fist, he didn't handle the redistribution of the DC5's records quite as well, making their songs somewhat tough to find or buy.
You should listen to "Can't You See That She's Mine" next. You will love it. Mike Smith was the lead singer and played the keys for the Dave Clark Five. He's the tallest one of the bunch. Dave Clark was the drummer... and the manager of the group. He was one of the very few people from the 60's who managed to keep the rights to their songs.
I think that instrument you're interested in is the Hammond B8 organ. It was the first commonly available keyboard instrument suitable for stage performance and you'll hear it a lot in early rock.
@gkiferonhs Other keyboards then were the Hammond B3 with a Leslie speaker, and the Farfisa. Some of the local bands in my area in the late 60s had one of those, or a Hammond. Not a B8 though.
❤❤this 71 yr old woman goes to butter hearing this. I love every Dave Clark 5 song. I have this on 45rpm also have their album of greatest hits. Also have the original Beatle albums. I was and still am a music lover. What memories i have that i cherish.
I'm a kid again, they take me back to elementary school 🏫, Thank's for taking me back to the "Leave it to Beaver" days, my pocket transistor radio and dancing on the Play Ground and School Bus. 😂 Peace✌️ your 70 year old forever Young Hippie Gary 😊 Great Reaction 😅
Awww! This is such a romantic song I grew up hearing the Dave Clark 5 at a young age in the mid 60s. My mom liked this song alot because it also has a nice easy dancing beat. Precious memories as always
I am 68 yrs old and this was the very first album I bought as a young girl ❤️🎵 and I took would sit on our porch and play it. Still makes me smile. I took it to school to share & forgot to take it home. It was left atop the counter and the school had a water leak that spilled onto the counter. It destroyed the album cover but the vinyl record survived. I still have it to this day. You guys have made me smile. Memories 😊
Another great reaction from you guys. Amber commented about how "smooth and together" the band sounded. The DC5 were all members of the same athletic club back in the late 50's or early 60's. The club needed new uniforms for their soccer (football) team so they decided to have a dance as a fund raiser. These five guys (Dave Clark, Mike Smith, Lenny Davidson, Denis Payton, and Rick Huxley) got together to play for the dance and the rest is history. Old enough to have seen them twice in concert. They were a great live band. Peace out.
Oohhh my word .. I remember this from wayyy back when I first started falling in love with music & tryna figure it all out. Eventually migrated to Rock n Roll. That took several years. I haven't heard this number in years, talk about blast from the past. Thanks Amber & J .. nice memories. Enjoy the evening 😊❣️✝️
I let my neighbor borrow this album and when he returned it, he wrote on the paper jacket that Because reminded him of me. Everytime I hear that song I think of him. I'm 71 now and we are facebook friends.
When The Dave Clark Five were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Tom Hanks gushed for 13 minutes about how much he loves the band. Then Joan Jett played their song Bits And Pieces.
I agree Amber, an exquisite sound.Actually different from all their others much more mellow. One of my favorite groups ever. Mike Smith was a great singer.Kudos to all involved making this song so great.
Mike Smith was a key member of the band, playing keyboards and doing most lead vocals, as well as cowriting (along with Clark) the songs. My favorite DC5 tunes after "Because" were "Catch Us If You Can" and "Can't You See That She's Mine." They had a sax player, I think he features on the latter of those two.
The sax player was Denis Payton. Guitar players were Rick Huxley and Lenny Davidson. Smith handled the vocals and keyboard. Dave Clark was the drummer. Only Dave and Lenny are still alive.
Great reaction. My sister had this 45 when I was little and I played it all the time. It’s a very simple but beautiful love song; so innocent and very representative of the era and very much like a Beatles ballad. Still makes me feel warm.

@josephleyva8090 it must have been quite an honor and a privilege to meet him. Mike Smith was definitely quite the gentleman with such an amazing talent as a singer, songwriter, and keyboardist. He was responsible for writing the majority of the songs for the DC5. Dave Clark insisted on a co-writing credit for all the songs as part of an agreement that he made with the band. In reality, he never wrote any songs. He took all the profits and gave the band a fixed salary. Bobby Graham played drums on most of the DC5 hits. Ron Ryan, whom I've had many conversations with, was responsible for writing or co-writing some of those hits, such as Because and Anyway You Want It. He's also quite a gentleman and has spoken highly of Mike Smith.
Early competition for The Beatles. Mike Smith (keyboards) was a great lead singer. He met a sad end after a fall that paralysed him and led to his early death. To me he looked a lot like Hugh Grant. If you looked under any rock in the UK in the 60's you could find a terrific group..
I'm a DC5 fan and of this particular song "Because". I stumbled upon your channel and really enjoy the very positive vibe that you two have. You cover a very broad spectrum of musical genres which is great. Much blessings to you guys and your family...and much success with your channel.
I love that song. I haven't heard it in ages. You forget how short most of those songs were at that time. Dave Clark Five, one of the best! I have another suggestion from the 70s it just came to my mind. John Miles, Music. It's long and also theatrical, I think you would enjoy it. Great channel, guys ❤❤❤❤
Always liked this song.. Btw…my mom was always a fan of the arts and nyc shows and had a piano and sang songs to my older brother and me.. One song she’d sing was Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma which I happened to notice u2 were wearing t-shirts of… Your reactions both verbally and spiritually are priceless
J and Amber - another British Invasion group is Gerry & The Pacemakers. Part of the Mersey beat. A beautiful by them is Don't Let the Sun Catch You Cryin'
The first rock concert I ever attended was the Dave Clark Five at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. Incredibly exciting, one of the greatest bands I have ever seen and a time I will never forget!
Omg...flashback to 91/92 and my memories of one of my few, genuinely sweet, funny and just amazing supervisors. He loved this group and when he sang this song, I rolled my eyes because I was young and didn't appreciate it. Fast forward 30 plus years, my eyes well up and my heart swells with emotion. Truly a beautiful song!
I fell in love with my wife of over 50 years now over this song. Jay, love you man but thank your lucky stars BECAUSE you have Amber. She is not only beautiful inside and out, but she really understands the music of the times.
I've always loved this song too. Beautiful melody and great heart-felt lyrics. Back in '75 my boyfriend and I went to a Salvation Army thrift store and I found and bought their greatest hits album on vinyl for a $1.00.
Dave Clark, from Day One, owned all of his songs and the distributors - who were in cohorts or owned by the labels (or actually, vice versa) - hated this because Dave could insist on accurate accounting of shipped, sold and unsold units. Distributors could lie ("make an honest mistake-!!") on counts, but Dave's method 'cheated' them from stealing and cheating HIM. As a result, the band had difficulty competing for shelf-space. Er, so said the distrbutors. Fans were constantly faced with 2-3 records on shelves instead of 40, 50 or a 100 for most other artists. "Sorry - sold out. Come back in 2 months..." was sometimes used, and the lack of immediate purchasing frustrated consumers. Then the distributors could claim, "See? There is no demand." Uh yeah... when they offered ZERO unit for sale, why is it a shock that ZERO units sold?!! grrrr Dave's sole ownership also has made film and TV production houses from seeking out his songs for continued soundtrack insertions. And, sure enough, by never offernig "seeds" for his music to grow, he ends up with no-growth - no new interest, no new 'demand'. Du-uh.
The Instrument is a Vox Continental Organ, a portable Transistor keyboard instrument that was popular with a number of touring bands. Other bands who used it were The Animals, Paul Revere & the Raiders, the Doors & Iron Butterfly. It was played by their lead singer Mike Smith.
Great song--one of my favorites. This group had the same kind of wild following that the Beatles had. They were VERY popular. Check out "Bits and Pieces" by them. It's great and special to me because my mom absolutely LOVED that song. (She liked to rock!)
Hi guys. Great reaction as usual, Dave Clark is definitely someone you should continue with. You should react to Sailor, no one else has reacted to them. The two songs to start of with are ‘Girls Girls Girls’ and ‘Glass of Champagne’. The songs are different to each other so if you don’t like one you might like the other.
It seems these types of songs were the last if the truly Romantic songs of Love. These songs were a carryover from the romantic songs of even as far back as the 30's, 40's and 50's when we had songs not just written but composed by the greatest composers. I would love to see y'all take a dive into those, I think you would be so amazed by such ones of the 1930's such as Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, and Irving Berlin, leading into the 1940's as Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and on. So in opposition to the so called 'music' of the last couple of decades that are, to say the least suggestive and songs of downright dirty lyrics and violence. "Give me one kiss and I'll be happy, JUST TO BE WITH YOU, Give me, give me a CHANCE TO BE NEAR YOU, because, because I love you." So glad we have these sweet songs. Thanks Rob Squad for these sweet songs.
Guys, another great Beatle song to check out is “Please Please Me.” That was the one that really got them started in England back in 1963. The mono cut has a much purer sound to it in my humble opinion. Their producer, George Martin, thought so too. The mono cut can be found on the “Red Cover album” which contained their supposed best from 1962-1966z Cheers.., Mark P
After watching your channel for several months, I decided to subscribe. I enjoy watching and listening to your reactions to songs I haven't heard in years ... they bring back so many memories! I'd like to suggest that you react to the following songs: "Suavecito" by Malo. The group includes Santana's brother, Jorge. "What Does it Take" and "Shotgun" by Junior Walker and the Allstars. Includes an iconic saxaphone. "Hello Stranger" by Barbara Lewis. "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green. "Happy Man" by Chicago. No horns, but a nice simple love song. Thank you for what you're doing!
Oh yes, my favorite song by The Dave Clark Five. Impossible not to sing along when this song is playing. Tom Hanks is a big DC5 fan and inducted them into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He gave an amazing speech. You can find it here on You Tube.
The DC5 had some romantic and beautiful songs for a teenager back then. They had a unique sound and soft and gentle harmonies. Thanks for the reaction, Amber and Jay!
Another British Invasion group you should listen to is The Searchers. They had several hits from 64-66 including "Sugar & Spice", "Needles & Pins", "When You Walk in the Room", "Love Potion #9", & "What Have They Done To the Rain".
So glad you hit this to compare the ballad side of the DC5! Great stuff. Now jump back to Bits and Pieces? The organ and baritone sax really gave this band a great sound for sure.
Another British Invasion group I really liked when I was a teenager around 13 or 14 years old when I first discovered The Beatles was the band The Searchers. Check out the songs "Sweets for My Sweet", "Needles and Pins", "Love Potion Number 9", or "Sugar and Spice" by The Searchers

I'm a DC5 fan and of this particular song "Because". I stumbled upon your channel and really enjoy the very positive vibe that you two have. You cover a very broad spectrum of musical genres which is great. Much blessings to you guys and your family...and much success with your channel.
Love the way Jay looks aver at Amber…..so sweet
My fav songs were "Glad All Over", "You Got What It Takes", "Bits And Pieces", "Catch Us If You Can", "Over And Over"....All chart Singles...
Because is one of my favs! Thanks.
Some more DC5 - "I Like it Like That", "Bits & Pieces", "Over & Over", "Catch Us If You Can", & "Anyway You Want It".
THE DAVE CLARK FIVE were very known they had a few chart toppers in their day
I grew up with the British invasion and these guys were one of my favorites. The Beatles being NO. 1 of course ❤
I am 65 and they are the first group I remember! Dancing on my front porch!
"Catch Us If You Can" is absolutely essential!
"Over and Over" was their only US #1 hit. It was a cover of Bobby Day, best known for his song, "Rockin' Robin."
Always liked this song..
Btw…my mom was always a fan of the arts and nyc shows and had a piano and sang songs to my older brother and me..
One song she’d sing was Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma which I happened to notice u2 were wearing t-shirts of…
Your reactions both verbally and spiritually are priceless
Such a beautiful song! One of my favs from back then
The Dave Clark Five were the first real rivals of The Beatles in 1964. You should listen to “Catch Me If You Can”.
J and Amber - another British Invasion group is Gerry & The Pacemakers. Part of the Mersey beat. A beautiful by them is Don't Let the Sun Catch You Cryin'
I absolutely love this song…it’s so sweet!
And, Ms Amber, your hair looks so pretty! 😊
We were SOoooo lucky to be teens then. Still shake my head at all the great groups and music. And most were SOOO Young !!!!
Great band, great song!
To get school dance gigs, every band should know this - AND have a dreamy-voicd singer.
There is no demand." Uh yeah... when they offered ZERO unit for sale, why is it a shock that ZERO units sold?!! grrrr
Dave's sole ownership also has made film and TV production houses from seeking out his songs for continued soundtrack insertions. And, sure enough, by never offernig "seeds" for his music to grow, he ends up with no-growth - no new interest, no new 'demand'. Du-uh.
Now I remember this song because they still played this on the radio during the 70's. The 60's music was simple and sweet.
I love the British bands too. And this particular one. Dave Clark Five was a great band
Love your hair Amber!
The Instrument is a Vox Continental Organ, a portable Transistor keyboard instrument that was popular with a number of touring bands. Other bands who used it were The Animals, Paul Revere & the Raiders, the Doors & Iron Butterfly. It was played by their lead singer Mike Smith.
spot on
Great song--one of my favorites. This group had the same kind of wild following that the Beatles had. They were VERY popular. Check out "Bits and Pieces" by them. It's great and special to me because my mom absolutely LOVED that song. (She liked to rock!)
Loved this song and this band was my favorite of the British invasion.
Love this song! Almost sounds like something from the 50s. Whatever era, it's lovely and still enjoyable to hear to this day.
The mono cut can be found on the “Red Cover album” which contained their supposed best from 1962-1966z
Cheers.., Mark P
Love Amber’s new haircut. As Rod Stewart said, “You wear it well.”
After watching your channel for several months, I decided to subscribe. I enjoy watching and listening to your reactions to songs I haven't heard in years ... they bring back so many memories!
I'd like to suggest that you react to the following songs:
"Suavecito" by Malo.
Amber , love your new ' do ! This is one of the prettiest songs of all time .
Love it. Been awhile. Thanks.
