so interesting to watch. just learned he was the original host. this was the year I was born. thanks for uploading.
And before Chuck, Edd Byrnes hosted.
Edd Byrnes only hosted the pilot.
If memory serves, this copy was taped by Janet, who later played on #S-3 in 1983, and was provided as a thank you gift to the trader who provided her with the other episode.
A few weeks later, the Philadelphia Phillies won their first of 2 World Series Champions (the other was 2008)
💚✨ Wow! I missed Ole Chuck... Great memories of a great host.
P.S... I'm also loving these old commercials.
Stay tuned for Password Plus next on NBC
I wonder if she still has the 1500 dollar vases.
This is very rare episode of wheel, from the woolery era(70's-80's).
They do get hard to find. But I’m happy I built my ManCave to see these game shows and my wife is still trying to figure that out.
Footnote: this was before 2 + 2, the commercial line he used on Love Connection, The Dating Game, Lingo, etc.!!!
Now that Pat Sajak is retiring from the show, my dream is the producers bring back Woolery and Stafford for perhaps a week of shows, complete with the original music and game show rules.
Never!!! Woolery has let his politics be known. He is a trump right winger. That would disgrace the show.
I agree. Chuck is a disgrace.
@@ericasklar4584to be fair Pat Sajak has been also somewhat open in his conservative politics
I think that instead of bringing in Seacrest to replace Pat Sajak, they should have brought back Bob Goen, from the daytime version OR, given Vanna, Pat's job and hired Maggie Sajak to fill Vanna's spot.
@@ericasklar4584 The real disgrace are intolerant Leftists who think the Entertainment industry is their own private little sandbox and woe unto those who hold viewpoints that represent the sentiments of half the nation.
That's crazy I never new until a little bit ago he was the original host my whole life it's been pat and to find out it was chuck is crazy.. it's definitely different seeing him instead of pat..
Chuck was such a great host. Pat Sajak was like watching paint dry (at least to me). I think Geoff Edwards would have been a good replacement host on here but they chose Pat. Just my two cents worth. Thanks so much for sharing these rare episodes ❤
I agree with you. I NEVER got used to Pat Sajak.
Watching these episodes with Chuck Woolery reminds me of how much I used to love this show before Chuck left... I think I was always secretly wishing he'd come back. Lol 😅
They both were great... I think Steve Harvey would do better then the 2 of them..
That first puzzle, “THINGAMAJIG”, reminded me of the classic category MEGAWORD. 😂😂😳😳
Ruth did excellent. 😀👍
Now, this is a GREAT look for Susan! Guapa!
I enjoyed Janet cheering on her opponents.
Atrangely I dotn remember Chuck hosting Wheel. Ive always just thought it was Pat and Vanna. Im old enough to remember too lol. I still remember Vanna on The Price is Right and running down that aisle bouncing all the way. She was gorgeous. Probably still is as I haven't seen her in ages.
I never said, "Out of sight" in the 70s or 80s.😂
Also great on Lingo & Scrabble!!!
If this were an early 90s episode, the category for round one could have been "SLANG."
or, if mid-90s, MEGAWORD
That PINK CHAIR thing. They knewwwwww!
this was the day i was born :o) pretty neat
Here's a fun fact. Around 1980 Woolery was making about $65,000 per year ($270,000 today) and wanted $500k per year ($1.9 mill today) because Bob Barker and Richard Dawson were making that much. They offered him $400k ($1.4 mill today). Stuff happened and Wollery's contract was not renewed. Fast forward 43 years and Pat Sajak is making $14 mill per year.
I feel sorry for Stafford... Vanna only touch the screen for her to show the letter to the puzzle... Stafford she has to turn the letter of the puzzle..see how technology works it saves Vanna from hurting her hands
I wasn't alive when Chuck Woolery hosted Wheel of Fortune. Pat Sajak took over hosting 6 months before I was born and Vanna White took over for Susan Stafford 6 months after I was born. I like Chuck on his other shows, but I like Pat Sajak better, maybe it's because he's from my hometown, Chicago, Illinois and I'm just used to him hosting this show. But Susan, she just seemed fidgety and uncomfortable(like pointing to the words in the puzzle while the round is going on, like are you TRYING to give away the answer. On that note, I like Vanna(actually love) she is the first celebrity I had a crush on. One more thing, I think it's weird that there's no bonus round
The prices are so primitive.😂
26:38 Barbara Sharma.
Those vases, at best, are worth about $100 to $150 today. How did they come up with the values and prices for these “prizes” back then?
Chuck really had an Elvis Presley look. He was the best.
He was pretty easy on the eyes back then.
No...he was not.
He did look a little like Elvis
he director should have made a better effort to keeping the camera off Susan. At marker,:{05:56}, You can tell she is getting bored and wants the guy to hurry up and decide on a letter. If you watch othr episodes There is prababely more times where she is baord, with the whole thing. LOL. F.Y.I his is also, if you watch it often enough, you can tell when someone will win and they will the bankrupt. game budget determines who will win and who won't. Most times Military and other service or college students will either win or go home with big money.
It's definitely interesting to see WOF before Vanna and Pat. This was a definite game show, but when watching, there seemed to be a lot of awkwardness to just, everything. Woolery was the only one that seemed relaxed and normal to me. Susie and her whole deal just came off as odd, I dunno, I'm just used to Vanna and Pat cause that's who I always remember seeing on the show.
Even with inflation in 2024, I wouldn't pay for those shit prizes. 🤣
But…but…the stool was from Hong Kong! 😂
I wonder if he still has the color TV?
0:00 was that Danny Devito with hair?
Jack Clark was definitely the better announcer in the 80's
Are the contestants hammered?
Jack Clark was the better announcer too. Though Chuck Woolery was even better on Love Connection
Is this the same Woolery who would anchor local NYC news?
You're thinking of Chuck Scarborough.
@@epaddon Nope. I have the best long term memory of anyone alive. And I do remember a Woolery who anchored NYC local news in the '80s or thereabouts. I would never have confused him with Chuck Scarborough.
@@Zickcermacity Perhaps not, but the fact is that Chuck has nothing to do with newscasting in any market and having lived in the NY market since the 70s, I sure don't recall any "Woolery" among news anchors in the 80s (there was Scarborough, Cafferty, Smith, Jensen, Dunn, Jorgensen, Bosh, Beutel, Grimsby, Anastos, Roland and McCreary among the men Monday through Friday in that era)
@@epaddon You forgot John and Doug Johnsons.

Sorry, but what ugly prizes in that Oriental shopping package!
Woolery has become such a tool for conservatives and that media, it has taken away enjoyment from watching these episodes.
Speak for yourself. If I can stomach watching an old sportscast with Keith Olbermann, you can handle watching Chuck (unless you're just intolerant)
@epaddon I'm not speaking for anyone other than myself. Why would you watch old episodes of someone you have to try and "stomach?"
@@johnp4008 If you can't stomach watching him, consistency would have dictated not showing up in this thread to watch an episode with him! (Consider me someone who is sick and tired of seeing someone's reputation slimed just because they happen to be conservative).
@epaddon So, you've appointed yourself Consistency Cop for RUclips? What a feather in your cap. But, this being America I did go ahead and comment after the game show page I follow on here posted the vid. My love of all things game show, particularly 80s, overrides my distaste for Chuck Woolery. Although he is a MAGA conservative douchebag.
Which is pretty much an oxymoron at this point.
I can stomach the decent conservatives though, few and far as they have become.
@epaddon So you've appointed yourself Consistency Cop on RUclips? What a feather in your cap. As a game show fan I consistently get clip recommends and this one came up. That's how I "showed up" here, then I exercised my right to make a comment. Sorry it upset you. I'm not "sliming" him b/c he's conservative but b/c he's a conservative douchebag. Those descriptors aren't 100% linked, at least not yet.
I don't know the reason that crap Jack was picked over Woolery to host the show but chuck would have been much better cuz Pat Sajak is a terrible human being and he won't croak
I mean, Chuck just didn't want to keep hosting after some alleged disputes. Who knows, maybe Chuck would've been a better human being now if he stayed? And Sajak isn't THAT bad, he just has a bit of spice. Old Spice.
Pat was very funny and open during his early years, but unfortunately like Bob Barker as we get older, we lack patience. He's still entertaining but not like in the 80s and 90s, I'll always believe his disaster of a late night talk show still affects him.
If memory serves me correctly while money was one reason he left, the other reason I read was he wanted to get back in to music. When he didn't make it there was when Chuck got back in to game shows with Scrabble and Love Connection.
