I've used ion's tripwire defensively and offensively. Defensively, it can slow the enemy in a pinch, either luring players away from you (works well in close quarters) or do good damage to titans that are blindly chasing you. On the offensive side, you can just chuck it at a titan provided you do it right. You can throw it just after the sheild disappears for example.

I will say, really really skilled Scorch mains are absolutely terrifying because they will never put themselves in positions where they can’t corner an enemy. Many times early-career scorches get blasted because they run straight at an enemy over open ground….but the scariest Scorch mains are the one who have no issue taking their time to get into position to spring a trap with massive stacking damage. I have close to 250 hours on Scorch ALONE because the area control is just my kind of playstyle….and I will tell you now as long as I think ahead and plan my attack, I have no issue facing down 2-to-1 or 3-to-1 odds if I can get myself into an advantageous position. I’ve logged huge chunks of time with each titan….but when the cards are down and I need to win, I break out the big papa because I can control the flow of the engagement

my man sayin truths, tbh I got really excited when he put Scorch at A, bc some people think he is weak, but it really depends on the situation, in one he is a monster others just a chunk of metal, but if you are always at the best situation then you are always a monster.
I remember playing some only Titan battles (forgot the name) in a private server bc of the ddos, it was advanced base and I still ruled with scorch, 10-0 then I simply left, Papa is simply too good

Well that goes for all skilled titan mains... Scorch gets rolled by every single titan in a 1v1. The only exception being legion, who still destroys him, assuming both have some core charge already, since he shreds scorcjes shield and then health bar with smart core. Seriously, then only players thinking scorch is genuinly good is newbies getting thermal shielded or just unaware scorch onetricks.

Hard disagree about scorch losing most matchups. If we assume we aren’t playing on homestead and are on any other map, scorch can probably beat ronin, legion, and tone. I think ion and monarch are about even but probably slightly bad for scorch, and northstar just hard counters. I’ve played scorch so much and he genuinely has an insane skill curve with each part of his kit being crucial to master with a wide variety of viable scorch loadouts that can change matchups.

Northstar's cluster can be used reliably as a main form of defense for pilots, same for twin tethers, but with titans.
hover can be used to peak over buildings when at a distance and whittle down enemy titans health. You can also, with the piercing shot kit, SHOOT THROUGH TEAMMATES AND USE THEM AS A SHIELD. (example combat scenario: Northstar with piercing shot kit behind friendly legion with an enemy monarch in front in a non-flankable corridor. since northstar < legion in health, and northstar > legion in quick bursts of damage, northstar is a bigger priority. use the tankier titan as a shield and do damage to the monarch in a sort of defensive-offensive position.
Flight core is used best at mid-long range while alternating ADS for accuracy, and hip-fire for damage.
when a titan is close, you can either dash away a lot, or punch them. my fav strategy is to use the threat optics kit and electric smoke so YOU can see THEM and not vice-versa or both. also if you are being rodeoed and don't have e-smoke, shoot a cluster at the ground, back up into it, and look straight up. or at a wall, back up into it and look the opposite direction of where the wall is. or if you are below a ceiling you can shoot it at the ceiling and look down. all of these WILL kill the pilot unless they leave.
Against Ion: Keep distance and cover and try to critical hit as much as possible, mind the vortex shield. when she is using core, stay behind long cover to take minimal damage until the core ends.
Against Scorch: Keep distance as to not let him obliterate you with thermal shield (especially if he has inferno shield) or gas traps. hover when he is using core and if you can, use flight core to counter his failed core and keep away from his T-203 TL rounds which take a while to hit their target, take advantage of this.
Against Ronin: Make him use up his arc wave, dashes, and leadwall rounds so he has to reload, use cluster missile on the ground to make him use up phase dash and trap him in tethers so he can't escape, get a good full charge shot on the nose and dash away when hover ends. Juke him into chasing you around the map to get to your ally titans (if you are playing teams) and have your friend distract the ronin while you take cover and shoot him until he is doomed. don't bother with the termination or goose and just melee the pilot when he ejects and hits the ground.
Against Northstar: Keep in mind that she has everything you have, and cover and velocity is essential. keep distance and get as many traps off as you can. if you get her in the traps, don't let her have the time to charge and shoot you back, go to cover and crouch behind it and tease her by un-crouching and crouching so she doesn't know when you are going to un-crouch and shoot. keep away from the clusters and traps, mind your surroundings, and most importantly RUN THE FUCK AWAY FROM FLIGHT CORE (that shit be scary man)
Against Tone: Flank and shoot, surprise her by staying in the edge of a corridor with full charge, and keep in mind that particle wall is easy to destroy in 1 shot with full charge, and that it has a really fast cooldown.
Against Legion: Catch him off-guard and shoot his leg when gun shield is up, dash away when power shot is vibe-checking, and beware of long range mode and smart core.
Against Monarch: RUN THE FUCK AWAY AND HOPE THAT SHE DOESN'T FIND YOU
Basically, keep cover and distance with high-speed, mind your surroundings, and be creative with everything you do, as there is a lot of possibilities of what you can do and how you can use and/or combine it, where the enemy anticipates you, or where a strategy fails. but one point remains the same, act like you're playing super smash bros with combos of abilities pretty much.
this took WAY too long to type but i hope i helped someone out with northstar.

    • @skyla1884
      @skyla1884 2 года назад +3

If you want help with monarch I'd recommend trying to locate it first then keep the engagement at long range for as long as you can. Use tether traps to slow her advance and place cluster missiles between you and her. You want to wait around corners and large objects at a distance with a fully charged railgun shot for when she peeks. Unless you have a shot fully charged keep to cover to minimise any opportunities monarch has to shoot you. Avoid using hover unless you have viper thrusters and know what you are doing.
You can also play around your core if it's available. Instead of falling back you want to hold your corner as the monarch advances. Hide a tether trap by the corner to catch her when she gets close and keep your health as high as you can. Once she's close enough to peek your corner (and trigger the tether trap) you want to preemptively dash towards her and core. you want to position yourself just above and behind her ideally, but just being above is fine. Then rain death from above.
Know your monarch. It may be the same titan but each one is different. If you face an aggressive one who keeps pushing up towards you, stick to what I've mentioned and you can chip her down to doomed state. If she flees don't pursue too quickly. She may be baiting you into getting close which is a death sentence. If she doesn't peek around soon she may have already started flanking you. In this case, choose a new position to counter possible flanks and prepare a fully charged railgun round for when she appears. If she doesn't appear, she's lost and you're safe for a moment.
      Hope this helps.

Gotta disagree with a couple chief. In my opinion, ion is A because of her shear utility. Long range option laser, short range option tripwire. And some kits can majorly help with energy reserves. Monarch is only an A for me since she can become an S tier but until you get the first core, your the weakest titan on the field. The energy beam is decent but isn't the best defensive tool, and the missiles don't do much damage and like to swirl off and hit other things, making them less reliable as damage. If she gets to the 2nd and third core easy S but when she first drops she's a B. Averaging out to an A

I've played TTF2 for a while and while I agree with everything, I'd still put Ronin as S. He isn't hated for no reason, a good Ronin working in conjunction with another Titan can disintegrate a team of three Titans. I'd put his job as to handle solo Titans/northstars and to support the team by smoking enemies and taking fire to himself so the team can dish out damage (it sounds bad being the tank but trust me, it works). Occasionally you can get some stupendous kills but that mostly depends on your Sword core, not very consistent. Still, he's the only Titan who can evade a rodeo with no smoke and can block a nuke blast. He's a menace.

    Mine goes like this:
Legion as my main, because I love the shooty, and I've always loved going "F this one lane in particular" and then nuking it.
Monarch is my 2nd (shut up, it's totally a thing..) main. Legion was my first real main in TF2 PVP so it'll always hold a special place in my heart but I love Monarch's utility and build-up to power.
Ronin comes next as the 2nd Titan I explored and was very salty about before playing as. (I main Legion for christ's sake, of course I'm gonna be mad about Ronins) After playing her I realised Ronins really DO need to steal my kills, (except when they don't (I'm looking at you Ronin's who aren't running sword core)) so now I appreciate them helping.
Scorch comes in at third as the first titan loadout I actually enjoyed in the campaign (I do like the first few but they are a BIT boring, just saying.) and the first I played in PvP, without maining. Bare in mind I've only really explored Legion fully, as he's the only titan I've maxed out. (I might have also maxed Monarch but I'm not sure..)
Northstar + Ion, I appreciate both and know that they can hold their own, but I haven't had enough experience with either yet to truly "get" them. Eventually, I will become enlightened and preach to the masses that Ion is the true messiah of the titans, but until then it's Lemonin (Legion, Monarch, Ronin) all the way baby!
Tone, It's just too slow and 3 hits for rockets in multiplayer is not good enough, gameplay in TF2 is fast-paced and this titan just completely screws with that. I wanna be *f a s t* not slow...

I am not sure if I agree with everything.
Ronin: yeah, solid A tier. Basically anime-protagonist character. More you try - more successful you are no matter the enemy (k, maybe scorch puts you down to the ground)
Northstar: something similar but without the anime-protagonist syndrom. Still high skill - high reward, however more things to keep in mind. No titan benefits that much from friendly titans as Northstar. Ronin is being punished for bad positioning, Northstar is being punished even more. Technically, you can control those things, but still you are restrained. Her gun is not the worst at killing pilots but totally not the best. There are things Ronin can compensate with mechanical skill, Northstar can't do that. Because of that I believe NS is in A tier below Ronin.
Ion: I might be biased because I'm Ion main but this titan's versatility is its strongest side. There are no things Ion sucks at. Ion can't excel any titan (except tone) in their optimal range, however no titan can bully Ion. There is no natural counter for this bitch. Only thing Ion can't manage is being gangbanged by titans, for any other situation Ion has a tool to play around. The only way to win Ion is just being better.
However, that is not the case for a Tone. Easily manageable defensive ability is a straight counter to the whole Tone mechanic, imo. Also laser shot is my favourite tool to deal with pilots. Still, I don't like the laser core. I feel this is mostly fun rather than powerful ultimate.
Based on that I believe that Ion should be the lowest A. Not because you can kill everybody or make gamechanging play, but simply because you are not an easy prey to any titan.
Scorch: I believe Scorch is not higher than B tier. He excels at his optimal range, this is the most dangerous titan when he gets close. His pressure is overwhelming. However, you have to be at your optimal range. If the map is too open or enemies can properly zone you, you are just an annoyance. His threat range is very short. I love his fat ass very much and it's easy to tell if scorch is skilled or not. Still, good enemy can prevent you from being a good pick.
Legion: I dunno, solid B. He is also has a tool to be decent at any situation. However he is still isn't as versatile as Ion. Unlike laser cunt enemies can play around legion's distinct weaknesses: low speed and sustianed damage profile. Yeah, it's hard to kill him, however it's easy to decrease his usefulness. I can't think of anything to put him higher.
Tone: I believe this titan is very underpowered. It's only purpose is to bully noobs. It's hard to play unpredictable as Tone. The whole mechanic is easily readable. Any defensive ability significantly decreases damage output of the Tone.
On the good side, the gun is pretty good at killing pilots, arguably the best tool against them but that's it.
In my opinion Tone is bottom B or C tier.
Monarch: fucking boring. I hate Monarch. It's the most uninspiring titan. Just live it in S tier and forget about this Mary Sue of a titan.

But he needs to get close to deal damages, and he totally lacks any mean to close the distance with his foes. Just keep your distances to beat Scorch. Scorch can only count on his opponent's poor positioning or surprise to be able to close the distance.

My tier list would go as follows:
Ronin: A tier. Ronin is weird because his design screams fast dps, while what he actually is is a distraction. Ronin can't be left alone for too long since he rips through your Tone's shields, but the damage reduction on his sword block is INSANE. 75% base and 90% while cored iirc. Playing Ronin is a balancing act of getting the enemy's attention by pestering them with shotgun shells, then blocking and teleporting while your teammates move in to deal their damage. You can also chase down Northstars and Tones for fun. Like you said, he's got a really high skill ceiling.
Scorch: B tier. Scorch is either S tier or F tier depending entirely on what map he's on. In close quarters, no titan even comes close to Scorch's power. Overconfident Legions and Ronins get demolished by fire 24/7. Where Scorch falls short is when he's forced to move in on an opponent. Since he's slow on approach, he either A: shields the damage and gets kited endlessly, or B: takes the damage in order to trade with the opponent. Northstar and Ion are literally impossible to deal with as Scorch. Tone and Monarch can be really tough too (especially with arc rounds, holy shit). Very situational titan, but stands above all else when the stars align.
Legion: C tier. Imo, Legion is the worst titan in the game. He's even slower than Scorch, his shield is easily the weakest of all the titans (excluding Monarch), and the reload is painfully slow. Legion is like Ronin, his design betrays his playstyle. The way to play Legion is to be a long range Northstar until you're nearly full on Core. Switch to close range for that sweet bullet sneeze, then at low ammo flip that core on and spray gore across the field. Also, ALWAYS use hidden compartment, it's a pure dps increase from the extended ammo kit (forgot what it's called). If you want to experience the real Legion, fully rank him up in Frontier Defense. Dreadnought is probably the best capstone ability in the game, and so damn fun.
Ion: A tier. This titan is why difficulty stars mean nothing. The energy balancing act is extremely difficult to pull off properly, but Ion is one of the strongest titans in every situation. The laser shot is the best primary weapon in the game, a slightly weaker, instant, hitscan Northstar shot that you can fire twice in a row without recourse is batshit insane. Crits on that thing are disgusting, and it chews up pilots almost as fast as a smart core. The splitter rifle sucks unless you have the energy left to fully activate it, then its damage becomes passable. The laser tripwire's hitbox is ridiculous (zero point tripwire rocks btw), and the shield is just so-so. Requires some hard reads from you to use effectively. Basically, Ion is a pilot's worst nightmare, and also a fantastic titan that can fulfill any role a team needs.
Tone: A Tier. That particle shield...it's the only thing saving this titan from obscurity. Without a Ronin, the particle wall is legit unbreakable, never mind if they're using reinforced wall. When a Tone drops its wall, everything on the opposite side of it STOPS. There's no aggressing it, your frontline titans aren't fast enough and risk getting shredded before making it past, and retreating is usually the right option but still risks taking at least one lock on. It's a ludicrous ability on an otherwise decent titan. The core ability's pretty good too, straightforward and incredibly easy.
Monarch: B Tier. If your team protects you properly, this IS the strongest titan in the game, bar none. If they let you execute and farm grunts, then a core 3 monarch is unstoppable. Unfortunately, this isn't how the game works. You will likely enter core 3 with half your health at most, if you reach it at all. Luckily, a core 1 and 2 monarch are still pretty good. Arc rounds and quick rearm/reload or maelstrom are a fantastic combo. What Monarch is best at is rolling a team that was already losing though, and honestly that just isn't as useful for winning as it is for getting a big killstreak. Fun titan, don't get me wrong, but it's more oppressive than it is good.
In conclusion, the titans in TF2 are very well balanced. A few changes I'd like to see are 1: Give Scorch two shots in his primary so he can function as a backline artillerist when he can't get close. 2: Give Legion at least 140 ammo by default and make his shield a little stronger. This would lean Legion more into the power fantasy Legion players are looking for, being a bullet hose on the frontline, rather than only getting to experience that bliss when cored. 3: Lessen Ion's reliability on laser shot. Just make it do a bit less damage and make the splitter rifle a bit better. It's not even just that the rifle's weak, it's that it feels awful to use. It'd be fun to have a primary like Zarya's from Overwatch, a beam where the damage starts low, but ramps up with good tracking. 4: Make Monarch a true support titan. The shield transferring is laughably weak, probably because shield just isn't all that helpful in Titanfall 2. I'd say she should have the ability to grant overshield to herself and her teammates, making her teammates facepalm less when their greedy Monarch steals their kill. That's about it though. Sorry for the essay in the comments!

Don’t think you’ve met a good Legion main that has good aim. Back in the day I used to completely out snipe Northstars and use my range to completely seal off entire sight lines of a map so that the enemy could funnel into another. On Homestead, Kodak and colony all I had to do was kick back and not miss a shot lol. As long as you keep your distance and keep track of all your opponents they can’t touch you while you empty drums of ammunition from across the map. And the power shot just makes it far too easy. Also the Bulwark kit is broken asf lmfao it completely absorbs salvo cores. I used to abuse that and lure people into a straight and then pop that with my core and have all the ammunition in the world to end them. If you demonstrate to the enemy that you know how to spend your 140 rounds then they won’t even try to bum rush you, in angel city I used to use the long range fire option in CQB and laser the crithit. Legion is A tier imo and S tier if you have good aim.

I've had people send me hateful messages because of me holding down a lane, and I use Bulwark(?) for that extra close range burst to push them back and take another chunk of hp. The key Idea is as soon as you see an enemy, crouch, shield and burstburst. Your shield will protect the most of your titan while crouched as your gun spins up and then when you're out of power shots, your gun is already spun up and your shield is usually still there too, unless you're facing another walking fridge. While you have your shield, PUSH FORWARD. This is usually enough to get the other titan to back off from the extremely quick withering damage. If not, it's their funeral. Enjoy the scrap metal.

Vs Northstar: Sword block the railgun shot and you should be good to go. Use Phase Dash to get through any other titans blocking your way, otherwise save for tether traps.
Vs Ion: Arc Wave and melee, you gotta be good at punch fights not to get knocked away. Use shotgun when enemy low on energy.
Vs Tone: If they hit you, leave until the lockon falls off. Use Phase Dash to dodge Salvo Core. Arc Wave the shield to open the firing line to your allies.
Vs Legion: Arc Wave, unload shotgun and skedaddle. Uncle Legion will melt your ass even through sword block.
Vs Scorch: Arc Wave, phase dash through them, unload shotgun, run. If you don’t have all your dashes or phase dash? Forget it.
Vs Monarch: If energy siphon build, then engage with a friend and wittle her down asap. If rockets, you shouldn’t have issues dodging. If chaingun, then don’t let her spin up. If she has superior chasis, Better call Legion.

I think the most underrated titan, as far is powerfulness goes, will always be legion. Legion never stops dealing damage. The powers shots deal Northstar-like damage while only taking 1 bullet from your 100 (or 140) shot chain. Having ogre health and a shield while being able to deal that damage makes you the most reliably punishing opponent in the game, with the exception of surprise scorches. Annoying team of monarchs? Try legion!

Thing about scorch and Northstar is that they’re incredibly map-dependent. There are very few maps that favour scorch, and many many maps where he is outright unplayable, below F tier. Northstar on the other hand, due to being the polar opposite of scorch. Has many many maps where he is just an unstoppable killing machine, and very few maps where he doesn’t completely dominate.

    • @cn8229

Northstar can actually hold her own in close-quarters against a lot of the other titans, as long as she's not out in the open and uses her dashes well. Hell, I'm often able to win close-quarters fights against Ronins with Northstar, it usually comes down to who's better at the "block the railgun" mindgames. It's definitely not where she shines, but she still handles it better than Tone, base Monarch, and even some Ion builds.

    • @michaeljcaboose1152
      @michaeljcaboose1152 Год назад

@@cn8229 Well that’s because, contrary to popular belief, Northstar is a direct counter to ronin. You’d have to be exceptionally bad at Northstar to not beat a ronin. Considering you have roughly the same amount of mobility, and flight allows you to outright ignore arc wave, and tether traps when used correctly, basically end a ronin on their own. I think Northstar needs a lot of nerfs, I’d consider him to be the most overpowered titan, because there’s basically nothing you can’t do. It really fucks the game balance because there are multiple titans who outright cannot deal damage at long range, and Northstar being the most mobile, can ensure they always stay at those ranges. Not to mention that damage per shot is incredibly important. Burst damage always outperforms sustained damage.

@@michaeljcaboose1152 Northstar is a soft counter to Ronin if engaging at range. But Ronin is faster due to phase dash boosting speed, can tank by far the most damage out of any titan, and has a lot more burst damage than Northstar at close range. The matchup is map-dependant, but all things said and done it's fairly even.
If anything, Northstar's only a hard counter to Scorch. Ion and Monarch tend to match up pretty well against Northstar, and even Tone can be a problem in teamfights, which most engagements tend to be in any of the Titan gamemodes.
As for versatility, Ion and Monarch definitely have much more versatile kits than Northstar, though they are a bit slower if not running an extra dash.
Really, the titans are reasonably well balanced outside of Scorch being the worst by a good margin. If anything is "broken" it's probably Monarch, although even then she's really not that overpowered unless you give her time to build up cores.

I have a tactic based off of how bad i am at fighting, i just run in as ronin to take down enemy titan health and i use the magnetic grenade launcher to also take chunks off titan health, and then i just turn into an auto turret by jumping onto a friendly titan and fighting what they fight.

The thing about the titans is that they are meant to counter each other like legion will most likely loose to a ion because legion mainly uses his gun and ion can reflect the bullets and a scortch might win against a ronin because getting close to scortch is a bad idea and ronin normally needs to get close to do maximum dmg and so on

You see, I used to HATE and think scorch is ass. Well, he is compared to other titans but I just had a thought “what if I main scorch and become the flame lord too!” And I realized that I could use thermal shield as a damage source, spammed it, learned how to trap enemies, and wowza! Now I evolved to a G7.2 scorch main in just 6 months!

In my opinion, all titans are equally as good. It's all dependent on the user. As you've mentioned for basically every titan, in the right hands, every titan is a complete menace. (Except monarch. Monarch is OP and shouldn't exist)

Monarch is based off of the Expedition kit in the campaign, excluding the vortex shield and switching it to an arc shield. Unfortunately you can't fully make the entire upgrade since the two stage three upgrades are XO-16 burst and lock-on missiles.

In my eyes Scorch is S tier, he's shield is amazingly powerful, his gas tanks are crazy useful, his wall is also very good, and his core can obliterate anybody, Scorch, if some correctly can absolutely decimate anyone, I'm a Scorch main(obviously) and he's abilities are good on close-mid combat, however his his termite launcher is great on any distance, I have a video named "Kobe" On my channel killing a pilot like 200/300m away, I can do that with Titans as well, his wall is great to activate his gas tanks and if placed correctly in certain spots it can deal free damage to Titans without a way to escape it (like placing it in a tight space) he's gas tanks combined with the perk that gives you resistance to your own termite, can counter even Ronin or Northstar, when Ronin faze-shifts you can simply place gas traps here you stand to keep the Ronin away and possibly get some chip damage, his shield is great to counteract flying Northstar
So in conclusion, Scorch is the best Titan in my opinion

    • @EmmetTheSeal
      @EmmetTheSeal  2 года назад

I think he is simultaneously underpowered and overpowered, in close combat he wins most engagements, hands down his shield allows him to dish out mass damage while taking none, but anything further than close range he is the definition of a fish out of water

Just one point where I disagree: with Scorch: Even on Big Maps you are easily toe to toe against Tone. Just wait until the enemy got his 3 Locks and turn on your fire shield. They do minimal damage with their primary weapon and if they don’t retreat they are essentially doomed.

I guess pilot skills matter because I can easely best 4v1 in a Tone or decimate a Nortstar at long rannge. Would do similar with Monarch but not as good as Tone. Close range Scorch or a good Ronin are a challenge for sure tho.
