Robbed & Crazy Bus Ride Across Dominican Republic (Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 23 авг 2024
- November 2022 I was in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and about to take a bus across the country but first to the capital of Santo Domingo where my friend had to go to the police station and report that he had been robbed. After spending the night in Santo Domingo we would take another bus again to the north side and Puerto Plata. In my coming videos I will be visiting Sosua, Cabarete, Samana, Las Terrenas, and more. In the previos videos I was in several hotels at the hotel zone of Punta Cana and hade also stayed in an all inclusive resort. In cabarete I will also go to an all inclusive resort.
Santo Domingo is the capital of the Dominican Republic and one of the Caribbean's oldest cities. Its walled, cobblestoned historic core, the Zona Colonial, has buildings that date to the 1500s, including the cathedral, which was the first built in the New World.

There were many comments saying that the brown water was just river water. If you want to learn about why sewage water is released into rivers and oceans around in all parts of the world you can read this article "For this reason, the system is designed to overflow occasionally and discharge excess wastewater into the sea and rivers."

Willima Amigo! I've lived in San Diego since '74 and our neighbor, Tijuana, MX has always had a serious river over flow basically, shit, but other toxic chemicals, you name it, very, very often closing Imperial Beaches' water. It's been going on for decades!
The US government along with Mexico to some degree has poured $$$ into this problem yet it still happens every single year. I love Mexico and so do you, my GF is a lovely Mexicana that brings me ice cream, chocolate chip my favorite!
They took your tripod a long time ago, you won't say it, yet it was a simple theft. You know it, I know it, but yes, while in country, best not to speak of such things.
I am originally from DR, and you are right, from the Capital where you were filming ( Malecon) is NOT from river, only on some parts of east capital, Ozama river, which has become extremely polluted, both governmental, industrial and people dumping waste. I lived in front of Malecon back in the early 90s and I can assure you the sea varied from navy blue ( deeper waters) to light blue shallow ones.. Shame that the Gov does nothing about this, unless it is a tourist sea side. Great work mate!
@@Rescatando_valores I spent 2 weeks in DR and was thinking about retiring there. Where areas should I consider.
Very good William… there is sometimes a reluctance to call it what it is when speaking about 2nd or 3rd world countries. For instance, most of the world’s ocean plastic comes from 2 countries… but the common knee jerk reaction is to blame ourselves instead of the perpetrators which would be far more effective. I dare not name the 2 countries but it’s not Europe or N America…

William this whole video made me on edge. Poor frenchman. Good you stayed around for him. That was very kind of you and I am sure he appreciated it. I could not take chances on water. Holy cow you almost didnt find any for the night.
Interesante video, me gusta ver cómo nuestros visitantes ven nuestro país y así ver las oportunidades de seguir mejorando, gracias 🇩🇴
Dominican here. The best thing to do to avoid those pesky vendors is to repeat no comprende, no comprende and just walk away. When I see this videos I wish I could be there to help guys like you. Good luck in your travels.
I wanted to go with him because it would be good for the video. Otherwise I would not. Lol
Ola Dennis! What about saying no gracias? Just curious. I’ve run into some vendors at an all inclusive on the beach and just told them no gracias, no mas denerio and they seemed to understand. I even gave them a gift of some baseball cards because I wanted to give back to the community. Thank you
@@ScoTTyScoTTyScoTT No dinero is not good because you a tourist, they know you have 🤑
Nice video!! Thank you for coming to my city Puerto Plata, and you can not imagine how stressful was watching you walking around and lost, I was like “Dude, what are you doing walking in that way??? you ain’t going to find no water or a restaurant in that direction, use google maps 😂”
Nice vid William, not sure why, but I was kind off on edge watching it, maybe it was because your friend got robbed, but stay safe my Swedish friend. 👍
Yup me too!
As Dominican, i really liked the video you have made. You have captured the daily life in a natural way for some spots, without the need to just show only the most "commercial and beautiful" parts that are seen in the photos with oversaturated colors in tourism magazines. In general, I can tell you that Dominican people are very generous with travelers since it is a natural instinct of the Dominican and also because tourism is one of the income sources in some areas. Of course, it is always recommended to be aware in some areas to protect yourself from evildoers. Thanks for the video and you are very welcome again. Next time if you want to explore some exotic and paradisiac places, you have a local friend here who also like to surf and watersports :)
I just got home from your beautiful country lots of historical places. I was in the deep neighborhoods of Santo Domingo and I wasn’t allowed to be out in the streets for fear of being Robbed so I had to stay inside my friends home. I wanted to go out and chat to meet some locals but my friend didn’t want me to find trouble. It’s too bad because I really enjoy meeting people with different cultures. I will return.
@@bberg4745 thanks Bob for visiting our beautiful country. We are glad that you enjoyed your visit. You are always welcome. Unfortunately, Santo Domingo streets on December are not 100% safe, because there is too much money on the streets from company giving annual bonus check to employees. However, most turistic places can be very safe, since these areas are supervised by the specialized tourist police.
@@richardsuero1684 I spent a week at boca chica then a week in punta Cana then came back to Santo Domingo for 2 days. I can say I had no problems. Was at grocery store and nobody even noticed I was white. Haha. That’s what I’m looking for. I need to polish up on my Spanish or I won’t survive. I was thinking of just owning a scooter but I believe I’ll be run over. Holy I’m not used to how they drive there. All I keep hearing is horns honking. 😆
@@bberg4745 hahahah good choice to not driving here. People drive like kamikaze, so you basically don't drive, you try to defend yourself from these people. 😆
Hello mr Willian !glad to see you enjoying your vacation, when you were in the capital you noticed that the ocean was Murky,; as you know it’s rainy season and a mayor river ( Ozama) goes Wright to the center of the capital bringing lots of country side rain water! Sewage it’s always treated never dump to the sea!!
Good work Willy Willy, please be careful walking those dark streets at night. See you next time !!!
Hotel Dinasty had some interesting art above the bed there dude haha. Keep up the good work brotha, can’t wait for the next one!
The color of the water is usually Turquoise but when it rains the river carries the sediment and the coast looks that color for a couple of days (or more if it keeps raining). it also drags a lot of garbage since the river is highly polluted
It is sewage water that goes from pipes into the river. Then the river goes to the sea. That's how it is in the whole world not just here.
@@williamtaudien Andre is correct. While there is some sewage going into that area, it is not the main reason for the water color. Our sewage system doesn't cover most of the city. We have to deal with alternate methods.
If you were correct, the color wouldn't change back to blue when the rain stops for a couple of days.
PS: I worked (with an ocean view) every day for over 10 years just couple of blocks from where you were filming.
Hello William, please try to visit El Salvador, you will love it! They have volcanoes you can climb, nice beaches, people are very friendly. I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work and sharing the world with us.
@@williamtaudien yeah, that happens but the color of water is because of what said. All rivers get brown when it rains. RUclips is full of video of the malecón, check some of them out and see the regular turquoise color of the water.
Here an example:
ruclips.net/video/pY-K8oOF9N8/видео.html
Oh noo the beaches there are very clean dirty water have their own sistem
The water in that part of Santo Domingo is usually blue, but heavy rain had recently poured and large parts of the city were flooded, 8 people died and there was a lot of damage. It was a rare event outside of hurricane season. But still the Ozama river is very polluted by service water and garbage.
Hello, William, it's good that you think it's beautiful DR, I'm from the Dominican Republic and I recommend that you avoid walking around at night alone and with a camera. Unfortunately, robberies and kidnappings are increasing in the country. Be very careful and avoid walking alone.
The guy with the black suit and white runners set off alarms right away been there done that good to get away quick 👍
Hi Williams, the water that you see there it's the end of the river Ozama that comes down to the sea, obviously was raining because normally it's blue and turquoise color right there where you was standing called the Malecon. Nice video!
Thanks for the beautiful content William you always bring sunshine into my day with your courage to travel and spread your inspirational way that is so unique.
Thank you :)
Nice my country Dominican ❤️❤️🇩🇴🇩🇴 mi pais
Hi William. In the more developed countries the waste water is treated before letting out to what ever body of water. It’s treated good enough that you really don’t notice anything. I’m a civil engineer from Canada and I will be retiring soon and hope to do like you are doing now. Love your videos. Thanks 👍
Up until 2021, Victoria BC was still pumping their sewage into the ocean and had been doing it that way forever. Tofino BC still pumps their sewage in the ocean so just because we are a developed country, doesn't mean that the governments care. The only reason Victoria quit is because of backlash from their own people and other Canadians.
William Taudien. Santo Domingo recently had a natural disaster. A flood occurred that in 100 years there was no record of something like this. What surprises me is that I saw it on the news two weeks ago and in your video the city looks very recovered, however the coast is still affected by the flood waters. The waters of the coasts change color when there are hurricanes and big storms, but they return to normal in a few days, so if you go back you can probably see a beautiful turquoise color on the Santo Domingo Coast
That dude was quite the salesman 😃
I appreacite you William for sharing this piece of history and such a precious treasyre to have you visit us. Come back again!
So sorry the French guy had such a bad experience :( . You gotta be careful going to some of these places at night; best of luck !
I am so glad that many people corrected your lock of knowledge about the brown water is the result of sliding mud into the big river after heavy rains. That was very harmful for our tourism!! Please amend 😢
So glad to see your videos are back.. Boy alot of hustlers there you are so kind it looks a bit scary to me and you should always have your phone with you silly goose. I was waiting for come with me and i will ease your pain !!!!! Take care william.
Hello friend! So happy to see
your video from Puerto Plata.
Thanks for sharing and for
speaking so highly of the D.R.
Your the man! Stay safe and
have fun.
Love your vlogs.. especially today i had a laugh looking at the picture on the wall as you were jumping on the bed 😂
I love the art work over the bed in the dinasty hotel😀
Great video, William. Be careful! Sometimes I feel you are fearless and that freaks me out about you.
Hello William! I was born in the Dominican Republic, a little town called Moca, raised in New York, and I am impressed by the poverty of my country. Please, focus on the beautiful natural side.
Lol, like New York, we Dominicans are a melting pot of races and peoples: I could probably be called a white man in USA, but like most Dominicans, my ancestry could include indigenous Taínos and Africans.
There are some very beautiful places in DR, but if you focus on the poor hoods, tourists may change their minds. Just pay a visit to South Bronx or East New York in Brooklyn, and you will get my point.
I am a typical Dominican person, pianist, organist and artist.
Affectionately,
Eddie Beato
I have showed nice places as well and nice beaches in my other video. I think people should get an accurate representation of what they can expect when they go to the country.
Yes, I understand, but I think every country has a share of poor thoroughfares, squalid hoods and slums, and that may catch the interest of some people like Jack London visiting East London, UK (early twentieth century) but i think most foreigners know that DR, in spite of its impressive economic developments for the last 20 years, is still a third-world country.
Having said that, I truly admire your channel for its educational content and excellent presentation.
All My Best William!
Lmao that bounce test was A+. Thanks for this video.
I always get nervous when you start walking around at night in places that are not familiar to you. So enjoy them!!
I know its all about travelling around Dominican but I am really intrigued by the painting over your bed in the last hotel. :D I know I am weird.
I love it when you walk through sketchy neighborhoods and talk to locals. You are much braver than me 😮
Can’t believe William has posted this just before midnight here in the UK, I was about to go to bed, well bed is cancelled….
Thanks for that :) appreciate you watching it
Nice video as usual! Would have been interesting to hear your friend' s story about how he was robbed....

@@pattyguerra4939 María está bien. Doble sentido.
Does that translate properly? Maria is fine. Double entendre.
The sea looks brown in that area of Santo Domingo because you are very close to one of the largest rivers on the island, the Ozama River, which pours its waters into the Caribbean Sea. And because it is the rainy season, the river carries soil from the mountains that are on its way to the sea. But in the dry season the sea is as blue as it is in the rest of the island. Thank you for visiting us. You are very welcome.
hermoso país ❤️
hermoso??? a mi todo el video me dio miedo.. como gente lo mete a tiendas con engaños para que compre o esas calles oscuras y solas.. y la gente en las calles.
I'm never going to travel to Dominican Republic after watching this video.
Interesting clip.I think a trip to Cuba would be good. That would be very interesting .
I think so too!
I agree, Cuba is one of the most unusual ( but beautiful) places I've ever been. Go and see it before it all changes...
Great video! Been to downtown Puerto Plata as well!! Can’t wait for the next video! Safe travels
Please be careful My Friend, lots of crime in the DR. Best to keep close to a resort or nice hotel. A void dark streets and be aware of what part of town you are in.
Like California, and all the other state also we don’t have mass shooting here

That’s not true. I’ve been there about 12 times and never been to a resort. I stay in Airbnbs or with women I’ve met. Never had a problem. I live close to Newark NJ and it’s more dangerous here than any place I’ve been to in the DR. I’ve been all around the dr and was just in Santo Domingo 2 weeks ago
In Puerto Plata You have to go to the Teleférico (cable car up to a Mountain Just like the Christ in Rio), and the 27 Charcos (mini waterfalls that you have to jump/slide from to get to the next) Both Great Experiences.. if u can skip Sosua better (it’s just a low class sex town) oh and if you are going back to Santo Domingo skip Caribe Tours bus and go With Metro Bus (which is the more recognized brand/better service), I hope you go to Samana later (don’t waste 2 weeks in Cabarete, Samana has much more to offer: look up Los Haitises National Park or Cayo Levantado . Again Glad you are visiting keep safe as Always
In puerto plata is better to stay in the cruise terminal and don't come out, otherwise the Ubers overcharges you and steal your money. My last 2 trips to puerto plata, this has happened.

Take care walking at night around certain places.
May be is not sewer waters, near there you have a big river:Ozama which goes down to the Caribbean sea;if it had been raining higher up, the water in the sea will get that brownish.

In my travels, I have stayed in some shady hotels and up to now only one where I said NO WAY.
The water often looks like that here in Hamilton Ontario, Canada. The harbour or the bay can look like that and sometimes the Lake Ontario near shore as the bottom can be disturbed by wave action. I have also seen a stream of brown water leaving the harbour out into Ontario like a brown river into the deep blue. I think you are taking some risk walking out at night time on your search for food and water.

Restaurant are pretty much hidden in Puerto Plata, don't ask why haha, but you can easily find them on Google Maps and walk to each one, you were pretty close to a few great and cheap ones like El Repaso Venezolano, Kaffe, El callejón de Frida Kahlo,

But the first place in Santo Domingo, if i am not mistaken, is where he first arrived at least in this island.
But.... I must also say: it is very customary to not see many people meandering about at night in most areas.
I was in the same place 2 weeks ago during the day and it was very clean and beautiful. I was surprised to see it that way in this video. I posted a lot of pictures of the same area on Facebook. If you visit it during the day you definitely would not be disappointed. Lots of people were out. Singing and dancing in front of the church area see. In the video and a lot of restaurants and shops. Plus if you like history there’s several museums and exhibits that are very inexpensive
@@wetguavassYes. The first place where Columbus got off the ship. First city of America.
The reason the front windows are tinted is because of the sun and the heat. You will see that a lot in the southern United States and out west in California/Arizona/Nevada etc. Dark tint is also illegal in many states like where I live in NY but that’s because it’s only allowed in extremely hot environments because peoples car seats end up getting so hot you can’t even sit on them especially if they are leather and/or black…if your car sits in the sun for too long it makes a big difference to have nice dark tint to keep it cool.
