This is my life in Vietnam and love it! Breakfast and cleaning daily. New sheets every other day and no maintenance issues. 🎊 Great video!!
Thanks! We just left Hanoi!
Same for me in both Myanmar and Thailand. In Myanmar. But for 200usd a month
I wonder what's the prices comes to?! I understand the perks but still you need to pay p/ night and other fees 😢
How much ?
But how much does it cost you in dollars ,not credits but green backs ,hard cash per week .
My uncle does this when going to Florida for 3 - 4 months a year. He rather stay in a hotel / motel because he doesn’t have to clean etc. He has elite status with a chain.
4:22 Chains to choose - Hyatt: US, Mexico, Canada. IHG: SE Asia. Marriott: Oddball (Norway, Cambodia, Indonesia). Great video thank you!
Thanks
Love this quick summary. Thank you ❤
How about Europe?
There are 5,000 point Marriott hotels in some parts of Europe, I myself stayed in these in Spain and Czech Republic
Thanks
I'm a travel and tourism promoter specializing in getting people traveling who haven't yet seen the world and am thrilled you are doing this! Thank you!🎉
How do I sign up? Where do I start?
Me too, where can a senior single lady find a reasonable hotel stay for a say, a month....Vietnam is far.....anything closer that is reasonable..
♥️🇨🇦
Hi I’m interested in get a long term 1 year 2 year. Maybe for forever stay. In the Bahamas. Or something like that. But my income is only $1,200. A month. Is that something u could. With the laundry and food. Cheap place but nice. Near beach. Please. DM
trying to see your handle, but can’t see the whole thing
I read years ago about a couple who retired to hotel life using their senior discount. Anytime they want a change they just move to another hotel in another town. This gives them the ability to live anywhere they want for a while. I love the idea.
Senior discount is 10-15%. Not going to do you much good.
@9416 10-15% is a HUGE saving on housing. $1000 becomes $850-900, the rest then covers food.
What do you use as a permanent address for dmv etc.
@@Irishgrl59
Good question.
You could have an established P.O. BOX in your base city. For physical addresses you could probably use one of your old physical addresses because even for P.O. BOX the USPS would like for you to list some physical address as well. BUT, make sure you have any mail forwarded to your established P.O. BOX number. PHOENIX PRODUCTIONS. @@Irishgrl59
I said this when the terrible nursing home was going to charge me ( after medicare) 291.00 a day!!!! My mother passed but we laughed about her staying at the grand hotel here! Cheaper and yup! Lots of perks!!!
Our mother has dementia though, so we’re stuck with the assisted living bill.
Most people are in a nursing home because they need the kind of assistance you won’t get at a hotel, cognitive or physical. So it sounds like you guys were kidding. But yea it’s a rip off.
Hello to you both, I'm your new subscriber, the idea is very tempting, I wanted to know if DMV address was changed to a po box or somewhere. What's your say on this? Thank you and more power and good health to you both...(it's a silly question I think), thank you
No medical care in a hotel.
I love how you’re being really specific, and really transparent and really encouraging in your videos over the past couple of months. We all out here really appreciate it!!!
Thank you so much!!
Yes indeedy!!
One thing they didn't tell you is, the 250,000 point buy was an invitation, it's not open to everyone. And you can't buy anymore points for a calendar year than either the 150,000 or 250,000. So at the end of his year, he cannot start over and buy 250,000 in December and 150,000 in January again, because he's exhausted his buy for that year. But, through spending they might have accumulated more points, but it seems as though they don't use the Hyatt card for spending.
Also, you'll need to seek out new hotels to get these point buys, as once they are open and booked, the point value goes up considerably. None of the point values in this video are available any more. And Hyatt increased their Category 1 to 5,000 points, no more 3,500 point levels.
As they said, Hilton is not the best, but they aren't worthless. They give every 5th night free and if you use the Business Hilton Card, the points add up quite quickly, although Hyatt Business card is a better spend for certain categories.
Been watching for approximately 4-5 months. I also watch about half a dozen other channels for ideas & information. We’re out of here(Colorado)in about 6-9 months, once I hit 30 years of service @ UPS & get my full pension. This may sound completely
off-topic, but my absolute favorite thing about you two is that you don’t interrupt or talk-over each other! I pay close attention to very minor, seemingly unimportant issues…just ask my lovely wife!😊
Congratulations on your upcoming retirement from "Big Brown". I've been retired from UPS about five years myself.
That is a great detail, that they each talk and not over or interrupt each other.
@@richardsnyder842 can't hardly wait! Been great. Been hard, paid well, great benefits & raised a family, but worn out & the wife is tired of being a,
"UPS widow"!
What about medical care and prescriptions?
What channels please?
People are going outside of what has been deemed to be the norm for so long...and I'm here for it! I'm looking forward to beginning my digital nomad life soon.❤
Wonderful!
YES the ideas and concepts around retirement have evolved and changed over the last couple decades!! Seeing retirement funds not lasting as long along with even the ability to have this savings the price of ownership.. the ability to even stay in a home once retired without a part time job or even needing to work full time. AND the need to leave less to the kids or the living facility!!!
EXACTLY! People are now starting to 'THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX'. Just think about the Gig Economy= UBER, LYFT, DOORDASH, EV, etc. Society sometimes makes people think in alternative ways and this is just one of them. - James D. Watkins, artistic director of PHOENIX PRODUCTIONS.
Me too, one way or another.....
My dad’s friend goes to KL every winter for 3-4 months (to escape the cold) and rents a suite at the Marriott. For the rest of the year he lives on the east coast of the States. He’s been doing this for decades. He’s been such a regular and good customer that the Marriott there gives him a special monthly rate. He gets free all you can eat breakfast buffet, and maid service. Cheaper and nicer than any Air bnb or renting an apartment. I’m gonna do something like that when I retire.
Where is KL?
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
We buy IHG points when they have a 100% free or 50% off. My wife and I will both buy the full amount allowed whenever it is offered. IHG is almost everywhere, and if you stay at Holiday Inn Express (nothing fancy), you get free breakfast and they have laundry machines for your use. Also get the IHG credit card for the sign on points and the free hotel room gift every renewal. Plus they are very generous with giving you points on your spend. For example, x5 points per dollar spent at gas stations. Plus by getting this card you will be IHG Platinum.
We have been retired for 16 years (age 47) and traveling around all the time in the States and recently one month in Asia. IHG is the way to go.
That's the way to do it!
Are there other advantages to being platinum? Perks/upgrades?
Did you apply for 2 separate cards, one for you and one for wife? Also 2 IHG accounts?
@@Chloe-dn2hn Yes! Both of you should apply now as the welcome offer is the highest ever!
What is IHG please?
I wish I was younger, this is a great thing to do! Congratulations on figuring everything out and sharing the info! A lot of people would keep all of this to themselves even though it doesn’t cost them anything to share! 😊❤️
Thanks so much!
We had sold our home in 2005 and had purchased a new build townhome. Our builder was having financial problems and we did not close on our new townhome for 11 months. We lived in a two Bed two Bath plus small kitchenette at a Marriott Extended Stay along with our dog for eleven months. We worked out a monthly charge which included, meals, internet, house cleaning, insurance, phone, refuse disposal, gas, electric, office, workout room, indoor outdoor pool, parking, transportation to air port, etc. We had the time of our lives. It was so inexpensive in the long run, because you have one charge that covers EVERYTHING. Plus you can’t believe the points we accumulated for future travel.
Wow, thanks for sharing
Inexpensive is relative. How much did it cost you?
And that cost was? My guess is a minimum of $4.5k/month...
❤❤❤
I think it’s a great idea and the way the rent on senior apartments these days and having to pay utilities it’s definitely a thought
I'm retired and now widowed, your explanations of how to live in hotels was very helpful. Particularly, since life in the US now sounds unsettling. Thank you.
"Retirement isn’t an end goal, but a journey best secured by careful and consistent investments."
Well said! Retirement is the reward of disciplined investing over the long term, not just a destination.
Well said! My adviser guided me through retirement planning, ensuring my investments were strategically positioned for long-term rewards.
That's a great point! Finding a reliable financial adviser would be essential for me to ensure my retirement plans are well-structured.
My CFA NICOLE ANASTASIA PLUMLEE a renowned figure in her line of work. I recommend researching her credentials further.
I searched for her full name online, found her page, and sent an email to schedule a meeting. Hopefully, she responds soon. Thank you
I looked into the same thing and found a 90 day stay in a hotel with breakfast included, free wifi, free bottled water, swimming pool and lots more benefits for less than £1500 for the 3 months.
WHAT? HOW??
Share it with us all please!
Can you send me the details please?
Where did you find this?
Are you in Thailand?
I've replayed the first 3 minutes of this video several times!
Totally sold on "Retiring to a Hotel" when you run down all the savings and perks. Priceless!
Me too, count me in!
WHY NOT? HAD BEEN THINKING THAT BRINGING BACK BOARDING HOUSES WOULD BE GOOD IDEA , THEY USE TO BE GREAT AND PEOPLE NEEDED THEM AND WE NEED THEM NOW ASAP IF BOOMER ESP OR GEN X , 65 LOOMS DEADLY !!
So glad y’all are living your best life in full time travel… y’all deserve it. You have helped so many people and are such a sweet couple. ❤
Thank you so much!!
Housekeeping I don’t have to take care of anymore ‼️
So fabulous.
Brilliant idea! I would think that another big advantage of your Hotel Stay strategy is... laundromat in hotel, concierge help, and a doorman to screen visitors. Great planning, have a great trip!
Yes, they have been doing our laundry!
Not all hotels have doormen
Twenty four hour security
This is the first video of yours I have seen. I believe me, I shall be educating myself with more of your episodes and enjoying it at that. Thank you. Be safe and healthy.
WE MAY HAVE SOME HOPE !! I HAVE WANTED TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS SINCE RETIRED AND WIDOWED AND LIFE GOT SO BAD FEW YEARS AGO , JUST WHEN I COULD RETIRE , BUT THIS MAKES ME HOPE !!
You are both so lovely. You exude gratefulness for the life you have chosen. I am fifty- nine, my husband is sixty-two and we are in the stage of decision making. I will say your videos remind me of the super couponers! I get so overwhelmed thinking we will get this all wrong and spend needlessly or miss opportunities. I will keep watching, it may dawn on me over time.
Thank you so much! It gets easy to understand as you start. You can do it!
Love it! I got the IHG card, per your recommendation. I bought points per your recommendation. I already booked our Christmas trip in Mexico with points.
As I map out retirement for my husband and I (in 2027), I'm planning for how we achieve 40, 60, 80+ nights as we travel across the country. Then in 2028 we will go global and maximize using the milestone rewards. Thank you for continuing to teach us! 🙂
Wonderful! The points are a real money saver!
This is the same deal for me. I have lived in this Washington DC area for 20 years and have a nice house here: until a couple years ago. The water pipes on all floors burst while I was on a trip. I came home to garbage and mice everywhere so needed a room quickly while still working. Had to let the house go on sale.
One of the coworkers mentioned I should call the local Holiday Inn Express for a room. Stayed in the room for a couple months that became years after retiring, Still there now. I could have bought another house but would have sold the original had I seen this before. The monthly rate is covered by my pension payments and includes lots of benefits plus wireless connection.
The staff have been absolutely great and this gives total freedom in making plans and following actions.
Regards
Thanks for sharing!
I would happily do this if pension would cover this.
@@Maddie2u ..I could have bought another house but would have sold the original had I seen this before. The monthly rate is covered by my pension payments and includes lots of benefits plus wireless connection… The only cost is the hotel bill and local taxes.
It may depend on your area rates. If you are retired check the rates in other areas you can visit for short stays. Make contact with hotels you like: they may give you special rates If they know it will be recurring. If not retired, visit hotels in your preferred area and ask what deals they might give you for a longtime stay. In my case I should have sold the house earlier and ‘retired’ then.
Regards
@@almartin4 good to know Al. Given the number of retirees now and the costs of seniors residences, I'm surprised that hotels don't promote a version of this....design packages to appeal to different seniors i.e. winter in one place for six months and summer elsewhere for six months, that sort of thing.
I will never go to a seniors residence so tthat's out.
I feel odd going in an inquiring lol.
Even with my townhouse paid for, I'm paying minimum 1k right out the gate.
I guess the only thing I would wonder about is what to do if you have bike?
Other than that keeping things to a bare minimum is freeing.
♥️🇨🇦
Guys, what points you are talking about? What rewards ? You not explaining the basics.
We are thrilled at the chance this may give us to stay for long stays abroad, we are retired, but not getting rid of our home. We already downsized, from our 6 bedroom home in suburbia, to our cabin in the woods. We are now reducing our unnecessary items and planning to travel 3-4 months of the year, Michigan winter. We love summers here, gardening, boating, biking, etc. But we still have lots of the world to explore. Our last trip through Europe had us staying at a few less than optimal airbnbs, so your video has us rethinking our approach to staying in airbnbs and doing all of the cooking and cleaning.
I started watching your channel for the Amtrack videos. My husband is in a wheelchair and the in depth info is so helpful. I never expected this awesome new content! So useful! Traveling on a budget is in my future plans, and these indepth tips are quit literally helping to make that a reality ❤❤thank you from the bottom of my heart
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for all the wonderful information. I've been watching your videos on cruising for the last few days and this one on hotel retirement is GOLD. May you continue to enjoy all your travels together in the best of health. Blessings🌺
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the tip about 11/11. I've put a note in my diary to check out the hotel chains around that time and look for great deals.
It's a great one!
I did as well , will be looking for this discount
WOW! Just stumbled across this video today. Newly subscribed! I’m going to be binge-watching your content today! You’re doing EXACTLY what I want to do in my retirement!
Awesome! Thank you!
You guys produce the most useful content by far. Praying I can start implementing some of these tips this year.
A joy listening to you both break down the numbers! It makes perfect sense. Numbers don't lie!
Thank you!
As an airline pilot I spend a lot of time in hotels. Believe me, after a month or two you will go out of your mind.
I believe you
I bust out laughing so hard at the sheer honesty of this comment. I love the comment section 😂😅🤣🤣🤣😁
That’s an interesting point however if this wasn’t so complicated I would explore the area.
yeah - travelled for work for 10 years... It would have to be a really special hotel for me to want to stay there long term and not have my own space.
Rubbish. I’ve spent years in hotels and I loved it. Maybe you are referring to the loneliness you feel, not the fact everything I’d hassle free and done for you.
😂 Gasp! I'm already planning to sell all my stuff and travel full time thx to your vids. I sold the house in January & I bought the 500k IHG points and spent a month in a Holiday Inn Express and now yall done threw in a new idea that I need to consider!!! I ❤ you guys! ❤😂🎉 Sounds like I need to add Hyatt w/ IHG. 😊 Thx. God bless you for sharing these! 🏆
went to your channel to say congrats but could not. so congrats
All the best to you!
Go for it. Enjoy.
When y'all do get started ... please post a video on your RUclips. If you need any help doing that... let me know. Vicki
So your spending 83.00 a night
I know of another RUclipsr (Canadian) who did the same thing. He and his wife sold their house & lives in an airbnb in Palm Springs for the winter then when April/May come around they travel. Then when it starts getting cold again around October/November they go back to Palm Springs. He says he's a nomad, Lol!! At 67 yrs old. 😅😅
This is a great video, very informative. My decision to stay in Airbnbs is based on SPACE available in an apartment as opposed to a hotel room/suite and in particular access to OUTDOOR space.I always book an Airbnb with a terrace or balcony where we can sit out.Hotels offer fantastic amenities but don’t you miss being able to sit in your own private space outdoors.?I realize this is an entirely personal preference
You two are goals! I've planned my dates to apply for the credit cards prior to my official retirement when I'll be making some big purchase (paid off right away of course). Never considered hotel stays for my eventual long term slow travel plans. Thanks again.
Thanks, we didn't either, until we started trying a few and realized in was pretty good!
I also found that some full serve hotels have unadvertised discount pricing (up to 30% off) for an extended stay. Usually 12+ nights. But that's only helpful if you're paying cash. I usually go to the hotel website and put in a random 21-day stay and see what price comes up. Sometimes, it's a lower cost per day compared to shorter stays. We did that for a 13 night stay in Seattle at a full serve Hyatt and got 30% off. Our suite was cheaper than a standard room at another full serve Hyatt just a few blocks away.
Great tips! Thanks!
How do you book online and pay in cash
@@alexandriadileonardo3081 You'll need a credit card to make the reservation. But pay in cash upon arrival or checkout. But why would you do that? If you use a debit card to make the reservation, they'll put a hold of approximately $250 on your checking account, which will reduce your checking account balance. Rental car agencies do the same thing. So if you want to travel, you really need a credit card.
I traveled for 20 years as the executive director and co-founder of a large technology consortium. I used to spend about 100 nights a year in Marriott, Hilton, and intercontinental flagship hotels. Please bring an ultraviolet light detector with you and check out your next hotel room. Semen and urine everywhere. Even the top end hotels do not provide toiletries that would suffice for my use. I don't use expensive brands, but I use healthy and non-scented brands, none of which hotels provide. Hotel cleaning is rudimentary. Never once have I stayed in a hotel room without completely wiping down the entire suite with my own pack of disposable wipes soaked in alcohol. The same goes with the gyms, the elevator buttons, and everything at the buffet. I'm not saying hotel living is not possible, I'm just stressing to you the importance of sanitizing your suite. Bring your own pillow, nothing you can do will get the bacteria out of pillows used by thousands of people before you.
Watch out for bed bugs too. You can bring them home without knowing it. They will get into everything except metal and cost a fortune to get rid and replace everything. Happened to my daughter when went on school trip and unknown had them on his back pack. A very expensive trip.😢
Not half paranoid, are we!!
My friend takes all these reviews like this so seriously she never leaves her home. Thanks for preventing her from traveling to even a high end hotel.
@@judybw706 Your friend enjoys playing the victim. She and I are aware of the same facts, however I take action to guard myself against what I know is there, and still enjoy myself while I travel the world. Your friends self-imposed paralysis has nothing to do with my observations of how I've successfully managed the challenges of international travel since the '80s. 🙄
Bacteria? Do you even know what they are? They can't live indefinitely in a pillow, and if you put a pillow in a hot dryer for 20 minutes, everything in it is dead. Mostly if it just sits in a modestly dry room, everything will die within a few hours or a day at most.
You can tell by the fact that if just a couple of people get sick from the bedding in a hotel, it's generally national news. If what you said was remotely true, thousands or millions of people would be sick all the time, and it would be a global panic.
Get a grip, man, you're losing it.
You guys are wonderfully delightful and generous with your practical travel information. Thank you for the "single" tip. I won't forget because our grandson was born on 11/11!! We will take advantage of that. My husband retired this year, and I will retire in 2 years. Purchasing points is now in our budget thanks to you. We have been watching your train travel videos and love them. He desires to visit Niagra via train from DC or NYC. Look forward to more videos. Safe and traveling grace to you both.
Thank you! We appreciate it!
This is fascinating!! I’m so interested to see how it goes on your stays in the US, as I’m curious to see how this works here. The rates you are getting are just crazy and how fantastic for people who want to spend a chunk of time overseas without the expense of an Airbnb situation which would definitely cost more!!Thank you for sharing this
Great ideas and love how you breakdown how to maximize the hotel perks. I am retired and love SE Asia! You’ve given me lots of food for thought. Keep up the great work and I am a new subscriber !
Awesome! Thank you!
this was great. ive added the IHG to go along with my Chase Sapphire Reserve and will be adding the Hyatt soon. Thanks for sharing the great info.
Thanks, those Hyatt and IHG ones are great for the free night they bring. Really helps going to NYC for a few nights after cruises!
Alot of what you're doing is really time sharing in some places with your points!! Points are exactly how you purchase time or pay for your time spent there. Some of the biggest names in motel industry are big in time shares.. Marriott Hilton etc. and these resorts are awesome!! This concept was startled in Tahoe
I was totally startled to find out Tahoe was the birthplace of time shares!!
I’ve asked the same questions from lots of RUclipsrs that live a vagabond type life. What do you do about healthcare? Recovery and physical therapy after surgery or illness can require lots of time. How do you handle having a permanent address necessary for driver’s licenses, Medicare communications, etc.?
Most purchase travel insurance, which covers quite a lot. Also keep in mind, many countries have drastically cheaper healthcare costs. Permanent address = use a friend or family member, register your license in that state. Or (as I'm doing) set up residence in South Dakota, which only requires one day in the state and offers mail services for the residency.
The problem with travel insurance is there's a limites you can have back-to-back. So you have to constantly keep switching companies and every time you do the rates go up. And some companies will not let you use travel insurance inside the US. This is a totally bad idea.
@@ad6417 - if you have a better solution, please share it. Healthcare for Americans will always be a tricky subject. There is no perfect answer but there are options such. as travel insurance and cheaper healthcare in other countries.
I was thinking this very thing then saw your comment
Most healthcare is a lie. Check the real data on a place like pubmed on anything you think you need. It will shock you. To cover medical care we *don't* consent to (think if we were unconscious after an accident, etc), we have Safetywing. $90/month for our entire family with travel protection and full global outside the US.
I am impressed. Great job finding the deals. Amazing attention to detail. Thanks for your efforts.
Thanks for watching!
That actually used to be the norm for relatively well-to-do singles or couples in Europe last century. Actually, the term pension meant both a government retirement payment usually for military personnel and bed and breakfast places.
This video was very informative and an eye-opener. This is my first time visiting the channel but it will not be the last. 😊
Very, very impressive logic. Well done. You both are making me reconsider how I'm going to do some things. I never stopped to think about collecting the elite points like you were talking about combined with the incredible savings overseas. And with the food and drinks included?? That's an amazing whole new angle you've just put me on to. I want my retirement to look something like what you're doing.
One important thing to add is that you can also use a cashback portal to book the hotels, so you're getting a further discount.
Great video. I've been working on my elite/diamond status with IHG, Hyatt, Wyndham and Marriott for the last 3 years. This will be the first year I'll have 3 free months of stays. Must use before expiration though.
Awesome, that's amazing!
Would love this for an extended stay in Ireland, England, France, Switzerland, Hawaii, Tahiti, etc.
much harder to do where people are paid a reasonable wage. these places are cheap for a reason.
Very interesting concept. As we near retirement - I am very interested in 'non-conventional' housing options...Thanks for the video.
Thanks
It would be amazing for you to put a video out, about how to get a Chase (or any other bank, for that matter) BUSINESS credit card, if you’re retired. We tried to do this and Chase demanded additional tax returns showing our business. (We generate rental income from rental homes that we own - so no brick & mortar business). Thanks Rob & Ally, for all that you do to make our lives / worlds better!!

I'm going to be 50 on March 26, 2024 and currently planning my "retirement". This year is my last year working a job. Moving forward, I am doing everything online in terms of starting a business.
I've started aggressively downsizing everything. I'm only keeping enough clothing to fit into 2 backpacks.
Awesome!
Really valuable video for retirement planning! Knowing which states to avoid in 2024 is crucial.
I just subscribed to your channel today. I am fascinated by the information you provide. Will watch this video again.....and again. Looking forward to watching other of your videos.
Thanks and welcome
Y’all are just to cute and sweet I just love this idea .I’m coming up on retirement I’m not tied to a home or anything .My Children are grown and doing well I’m so loving this idea
Sounds great!
Absolutely looved your video. I am retired, and on my way out of the US. I plan to have a homebase that will hopefully allow me time to travel more and investigate options, such as the one you've shown.
Today is the 1st time I've come across your channel. The subject was about your hospital costs in Malaysia. That was very interesting and informative...thank you. After I have subscribed to your channel this hotel subject popped up...and I loved it as well. These hotel memberships makes so much sense...thanks for the tips...👍👍. Look forward to watching all your vids. Safe travels.
This vid is the first one of your I've seen. Very concise explanation of points, levels, etc. Do you do all of that with a spreadsheet? Would love to see it!
Also, do the points, upgrades/free nights, etc. expire? For planning purposes, it would be good to know to time cc card, trips so nothing falls through the cracks.
Yes, we are going to do a video on it very soon
Always saw that, no one else found out this secret, now y have. No administrative paperwork, simple living as it was meant to be. No admin costs also.
See, the US don’t want to provide these services anymore, exactly.
All you have to do is pay up, yr only other costs, phone, food, transport. That’s enough things to take care of. And no minding of pets, which most people are addicted to. It’s fine, but you’re stuck just like if one needs a babysitter. Don’t know why we were the only one who saw this. Finally my brother saw that. He said, when this dog dies, no more. You can’t go anywhere, exactly. A family member always said, ‘kids and dogs’. Not to be mean, but true, it’s a life choice.
Glad to have found this channel. Always liked this way to live, travel. Have your house, if you do, in a certain country, and take off, go. Even cruises. Tauck cruises are small and very historically thorough, small group and personal. Never went on one, but just found out about them. They’re are probably many though.
Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful living options that we would otherwise not know about. Very interesting
Glad you enjoyed it

It costs approx £7 k a year to rent a room (no ensuite) in a Hmo eg shared house in the UK
I would not want to live in a Travelodge although a couple did for a long time. You can find a wide range of prices for renting a house/flat but if you are retired and flexible you can massively beat £1500 for an entire house.
Choose a hotel with a kitchenette.
I need to learn how to use points in general. Great video!
It’s pretty easy. When you book and they ask for your payment, there should be an option to pay with points. Generally speaking, You earn points after each stay. So, you have to pay for some nights first to have points to use on room nights. The easiest way to get a bunch of points at once is by getting an enrollment bonus through a new credit card. Most of the Hotel chains have partnerships with certain credit card companies to offer their points as bonuses when you get that card.
Me too. I'm going to watch this video again. I'm not sure I'm understanding. It sounds too good to be true.
Very nice to see the added benefits of choosing hotel over Airbnb
I'm doing something simular through our travel club. Life and the perks are great. Yes the USA use excuses for everything!!
I love creative thinking! This is a very smart way to live.
Oh wait. Soon as you mentioned Park Hyatt. Yes ... hello. Beautiful in Chicago and NYC.
This idea is fantastic! Thanks a bunch for going over things in such detail and with easy to follow steps to get it going!
Glad it was helpful!
I think it is wonderful how you are able to make this work for you. Whether it is a short or long term residence. It is a great way to travel and see the world. Congrats. It is not for everyone but it is working for you. Thank You for the video.
I was a road warrior for 25+ years. The biggest tradeoff for a long-term stay at a full serve hotel property is no self-serve laundry. The extended stay hotels will have that, but they don't have the club lounges. Sometimes, I would stay at a full serve property for 10 nights, then check into a Marriott Courtyard or Hyatt Place for 1 night to do a couple loads of laundry.
That's going to be interesting to see how it works for us. We have some Hyatt Places coming up. The IHG platinum card status is giving us some free laundry here done by the hotel, the rest we are just paying for because it's very inexpensive. In the US I imagine that laundry bill would be higher. The Hyatt Regency rate in Yogya in the screenshot included 2 pieces of laundry per day for the $58 a night.
@@GroundedLifeRetirementTravel FYI - The last time we used a public laundromat, two of my shirts got bleached from whoever used the machine before me. While staying at a Hyatt Regency, I thought about calling a nearby Hyatt Place and asking the manager if he'd be willing to allow a Globalist to use their self serve laundry for a couple of hours while dining at their cafe/bar. I haven't done it yet, but I'm guessing they would allow it. btw - how the heck do you do these videos in one take? Impressive!
I love going to the laundry mat. They are plentiful and affordable. And quick. No need to go to another hotel.
Pls tell me what is IHG , HOW TO GET THOSE CARDS ?
You’re such a sweet terrific couple. How are you managing your weight and health food wise? Whenever I eat out or am on vacation I gain weight and can’t wait to get home to my healthy homemade food.
You can retire in a ship too, then good heating entertainment, cleaning, all the towels bedding and so on
Entertainment is free too
Hi. Thanks for sharing this great information. Just wondering if you’ve looked into best chains and perks in Europe, by chance. We love Portugal, Spain, Italy and all of that area. Would love it if we could apply this to visit 😢that side of the world.
Be careful with France, if you're considering France in the Western European stays. I was pondering retiring to France (and I always will love that country, and it's the first place where I ever vacationed abroad), but then I began viewing multiple channels about living in France and how the tax implications can get crazy. ... But never mind me -- I'm sure that you'll do the necessary research about Portugal, Spain, Italy and surrounds as well as keep watching Grounded Life Finances' Allie and Rob! Happy planning!
I don't understand the whole thing about points.
I lived in a hotel when I was 18/19. I am now 71. I can only say that living there, and having a long stay somewhere, are very different. It’s a different experience. I would Not want to do it again unless it were all I could afford.
Interesting. Would you like to say more about what you didn't like about it and what you better about having a long stay somewhere?
Thank you so much for sharing all this valuable information. I now have hope for a wonderful retirement lifestyle!
Best of luck!
Kindly explain points to those of us who are clueless.
Seriously. I’ve stayed in IHG a few times and only got a few points. What? How do you accumulate thousands?
Sounds like their buying them on a half price sale
So how? Apply for credit card and go on the hotel website u want and book it. I didn't understand how to do this
I didn't get that part of the video either.
Such a great and helpful video!! Thank you for posting this!!
Glad it was helpful!
I also prefer hotels. Airbnb is not providing any services anymore. However, not all hotels offer serviced apartments part of the hotels. I do travel full time with my whole family which automatically puts me in the situation where I have to cook sometimes. It has been a month since we had a kitchen in our unit and we are now looking forward to our Airbnb stay in Punta Cana. Because of the kitchen and washer (and dryer)…
Y’all are awesome. So happy I found your channel.
Thanks so much!!
How cool! I may do this in the future. I'm not at retirement yet, but I am just a few years away from my kids being adults; I work remotely and want to travel, so this is fab advice.
How do you learn to do all this? I'm an educated person, who has always had trouble understanding miles, etc.
*Make reading fine print your mission*
Watching vídeos like this is a great start. Many people who travel full-time sell everything and maybe rent a POD or storage unit to hang onto their photos or whatever may be important to them. You will learn as you go. Maybe start off within your country then go worldwide, if you so desire. Pick one or 2 places so you can build up your points and status. We used Extended Stay of America, Marriott and IHG in past. You should check ahead to make sure it's in good location, maybe brand new or just remodeled to have an extra nice stay. One usually gets better rates if one stays weekly and better yet monthly. Plan ahead because sometimes thes places get booked on weekends then one can't stay full 7 days for discount. Usually not a problem, but can be. Have fun! No utilities either🌴😎🌞✌️
Holy cow. This is AMAZING. First I've heard of it & I cant believe how comparatively inexpensive it is. I'm doing further research...
Glad it was helpful!
I'm so envious of your travel retirement. I still need a few years to line things up. Looking forward to trying your approach when the time comes.😊
Best of luck!
Retired? I think they work their butts off on their YT channels and other ventures, however, I appreciate they've carved out their niche and way of generating income, but I wouldn't say they're retired!
What a great idea! Just starting the video. I'm excited about this. I'm all ears.
PS China has a ton of IHG hotels which is really nice as I live here & it can make me feel like home when I want to have a “staycation.”
Kudos to you for figuring this all out. I have accumulated over 3.6 million points on my capital one card which I plan to start using. The biggest problem I have with hotel living is the noise. Some of these hotels the walls and doors are so cheap you hear everything and I am a light sleeper so not sure if I could tolerate this style of living too long. I do love the thought of trying short term
I’m loving your videos less stressful to watch .real possibilities
Thanks!
You two seem made for each other, very cool to see!!
Years ago, it wasn’t unusual for wealthy people to live in hotels. Often these hotels had garage space and servants’ quarters. Sort of like Eloise living at the Plaza. Many hotels had special long term suites that were basically apartments.
AND ALWAYS A DREAM OF MINE !! I SO WANT TO DO THIS, JUST PUT MY STUFF IN STORAGE AND ONLY SOME CLOTHES AND GO , AS SURELY THIS CAN BE DONE IN USA ! GOING TO BE DOING SOME FAST RESEARCH, AS I LIVE IN ASHEVILLE NORTH CAROLINA AND YIKES AND GET ME OUT AND MY ANCESTORS COFFINS FLOATING BY AND IT IS NORTH CAROLINA AND IT IS WORST THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE , SO TIME TO LEAVE DODGE CITY !!
There's a simple reason for the cleaning, etc. In the US hotel workers get $10-20/hr plus ? health insurance, etc. In the SE countries they are getting $10 DAY, work 6 days a week - often 12 hours/day. Lots of differences in cost of food, etc so the lounge offerings are also way lower cost!
Make a list of all your outgoings daily if you’re living at home.

I am only at 1:44, so you will probably address my question: What about tipping the housekeepers, etc.?
Tipping culture is only an American thing. Although I do, most people I know don't tip the house keeping staff.
Amazing content, being an older gent (67) any info on medical insurance because as you know we have our senior MediCare that only works in the USA?
You can get travel insurance. Check AAA. It used to be cheap, like $25.
New subscriber to your channel. What excellent information, I’m going to start binge watching. I’m in need of travel tips and retirement advice. You are a lovely couple too! 🙏🏽
Awesome! Thank you!
So basically from what I can hear from you guys is you have to have money basically to be able to travel and do this at all.
I'm retired and this is completely new to me. Thank you. Burt I'm still a little confused about how to start. I love to travel and this sounds so perfe t for me.
