  • Chris Ryan shows you how to play the longer chip and run shot when around the greens. This is a very low risk shot to choose compared to some of the other options that you may have, and with a few set up adjustments and good concepts you can ensure you get up and down more often.

    I use this shot all the time. Gotten so good at it sometimes it goes in the hole. I play shaft up like he said and I simply imagine the putter is in my hand. I use a 7i most of the time but will also use a hybrid in occasion if I'm further out. Great video.

    Just watched this video. I see my friends doing the Bump and Run shots all the time and have never used it. I have always used a lob wedge to the green no matter what the distance and had good luck. Decided to see how this is done and with what club so I could get some run on my ball. Very nice informative video. I will take this advice to the course this afternoon and see how it works for me.

    Chris: Thank you for this excellent instruction. Today I took this technique to JAX Beach Golf Course. I followed your instructions precisely except that I used it from the tee box on a par 3, 135 yards, Hole #4. On the "run" part of the B&R, the ball struck the flag pole near the bottom and came to rest 8" from the hole! Almost a hole in one! Thanks again! Ken
    Ps. I'm a "minimalist golfer", walking with only 4 clubs. I executed this shot with a 4 iron!

    Great tip. I’m a big fan of bump and run. Safe, high percentage shot. I have bladed too many balls with high lofted wedge from this distance and watch in horror as my ball goes screaming 30 feet past the hole.

      Safe?? I would, from this distance, have a 10% chance of getting the pill on the green, 95% either fat or thin, occasional air shot. Very frustrating.

    Great lesson, i think it's fair to say that the modern teaching method for chipping and pitching is very much based on a more shallower bottom of the swing condition for more consistent contact.

    Excellent been practicing this for a couple of weeks, tried on the course, very useful, very straight and generally leaving a single putt

    This is my go to chip shot most of the time. I started using a 6 hybrid when I'm on the fringe as well, the same basic stroke. You can also use this same stroke with the higher lofted clubs and a touch of wrist action and get a nice little floaty chip that lands soft and has a short roll.

    Was much in my attention better that you could give it a higher loft wedge as well just to see the differences. Thanks 👍

    For beginners, this may be more dangerous for them to achieve. Would another option be chipping? The bump and run may get them into trouble.

    why is it when i see you do it you say keep it in the middle of your stance, But when i watch a few pros give the same tip they said keep the ball lined up with the back of your feet. I just saw a video with jordan spieth and he was saying line it up with your back foot. So Im just curious whats the difference and why are there is two different ways.

    Why not use a hybrid instead of the 8 iron as another option

    I’d disagree that the bump and run is for low confidence. Flighting it to the hole with spin is high risk. The bump and run is the best option if you have green to work with in almost every case. In switched to it awhile back and dropped at least 4 shots off my round. (I’m a 4 handicap)

  • @rjh2590
    @rjh2590 7 лет назад

    It seems that you did not chip the ball to drop at the flat area of the green. In your distance case should you choose a more loft club to carry more distance to be drop on the green?

    • @johnnypenso9574
      @johnnypenso9574 7 лет назад +3

      That's a chip shot, this is a bump and run.

    I use this shot a lot.You had edge of green about 50% of distance to pin ,you pitched short of green and still ran past pin.I would have used my 47 degree PW to pitch just on the green.
    I decide which club with the following method.
    Distance to 1yd on green say 5yds total to flag say 35yds reduce to 1 to whatever ratio in this case 7 and subtract the second figure from 12 in this case 7 so use a 7 iron.
    I find this works quite well making your target 1yd onto the green to get a consistent bounce.
    So 10 yds and 30yds would be 12 - 3 = 9iron.What does anyone think.Works for me if you want to try it.😊
