  • Explore with me Vatnajokull Glacier in Iceland in Vatnajökull National Park. Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Europe by volume. It is one of the top attractions in Southeast Iceland.
If you want to hike on the glacier, you will have to book a tour because the hike is only allowed with a professional tour guide, however, if you just want to walk to see the glacier from the distance, no tour guide is required. It will take you up to an hour (roundtrip) to hike to the glacier if you choose to explore the area on your own. The trailhead starts from Skaftafell Visitor Center. There are public restrooms and a restaurant at the Skaftafell Visitor Center. The parking lot is just a short walk from the visitor center. There is a parking fee and you can pay the fee at the automated machine located in the parking lot.
In November 2011, the glacier was used as a shooting location for the second season of the HBO fantasy TV series Game of Thrones.

Lots of water in connection with the glacier. I was in austria in the last class in school before the gymnasium. In austria we went down to a glacier with a train, problably 70 to 80 degrees down in elevator cables

Even now, you won't see a lot of travelers if you visit off-the-beaten-path places in Iceland. For example, the WestFjords region. I filmed a lot of videos there and the whole area was almost to myself 😊

Puffins… where is the best place to see them in East Iceland?

They are not a lot of puffins in East Iceland. The best place to see them is in the WestFjords region. I shared that place here: ruclips.net/video/UEjt20ib1zc/видео.html
