Lenovo Ideapad 110S SSD Upgrade!

- In this video I do an upgrade to the 32GB eMMC included storage on this cheap Ideapad 110s laptop. This is one of the models that still offered the m.2 slot to add your own SSD. The model right after this removed the ability to upgrade by completely removing the slot all together.
This is a budget laptop and cost me about $150 3 years ago open box. It has a Celeron processor and only 2GB of ram. The eMMC storage is very slow and limited to the point that I could not even update the computer to the latest Windows 10 version.
Will this SSD improve the laptop? YES. More storage and MUCH faster read and write speeds offer a decent experience now. The laptop is still limited by its processor and RAM which cannot be changed.
If you have one of these laptops, definitely consider buying one of these. It takes an M.2 2280 SSD.
Here is an example of a drive to use from Amazon: amzn.to/2I1oJE5
Thanks for watching!

Excellent video! Not too long or wordy. I installed a Samsung SATA 250GB SSD in a Lenovo 110s today. Your video was very helpful.
Done this mod too and it's deffo worth it. Just be patient and slowly follow all the steps through.
There's 2 or 3 RUclips videos detailing this if you search.
When im in a hotel away from home I can do some work, browse the web, and play some (very very old) classic games no problem.
also when i was stuck abroad in lockdown it was great for keeping in touch with people back home facebook video , skype yada yada.
ok the basic spec of the laptop is dated now but it can still do the basics !!
Excellent video. Greetings from Jamaica. I'm doing to upgrade my wife's laptop now! 💯
when posting a video like this remember not everyone is tech savvy, the m.2 2280 is SATA
Very good straight to the point video. Thanks Buddy. I am gonna save my sister's laptop now
Man thank you it’s a very useful information
With 2GB of RAM and a Celeron, and with Windows 10 getting heavier and heavier, just do yourself a favor and get anything else with 4gb of Ram or more, unless you're on a VERY tight budget.
Nice video, i will try to get a m.2 ssd for my own ideapad 110s but in my country are very expensive
If you can find used.. it’s worth it
Love the content!
Would have thought they would disable that port, oh well, doesn't matter cause I just upgraded mine with a 250gb SSD :P.
Thanks for the video
I apparently have one that is not upgradeable. I wonder what their reason is for removing upgradeability. A 32GB storage capacity is useless. I've never used an outside memory. Guess I can toy with that option.
Excellent job on the video! My granddaughter has one of the Lenovo laptops that she says is running really slow, so I thought I'd upgrade it for her. Sadly, it may the the later model with the Celeron N4000. Did you use a SATA M.2 SSD?
Yes it was a 2280 if I recall correctly
@@IansTech I was asking if it was a SATA SSD or PCIe SSD. Based on the speed it was either SATA or PCIe x1 Gen 2.
I brought 1 a few years back now and windows took all the storage I can’t even do a factory reset
I should try this on my computer
Thank you 😊
How’d you find the correct SSD that is compatible with the Lenovo 110s?
I found it online. Cannot recall where
Good work! Best post...vid.i would like to ask my lenovo 120s 11iap is this compatible with the m2 drive? Ssd and second question is it necessary to change my hdd? Thank you.for helping
I did not see memory slots in your video (might have missed it), can memory be upgraded at all?
Never mind, did some research, apparently the memory is soldered onto the motherboard on these models, too bad. Maybe we can increase performance with virtual memory perhaps? Use the 32gb included storage as a pagefile? I don't know just brainfarting here.
Any noticeable effect on the battery life?
Update: I gave up and turned it into a Chromebook using Neverware. Works like a charm.
I use peppermint Linux on mine as I couldn't update windoze because of the lack of space on the hard drive
Hello. How much did the windows 10 update flash drive cost and how do you go about getting ahold of one ?
charlie beacroft you can make your own.. if you have a 8 or 16 GB flash drive you can download the media creation tool and it will do everything for you :)
Hi. Iam from India . I have same laptop. I didn’t upgrade it . I purchased it in USA in the year 2018.. Now I got the problem suddenly it stopped..
Hi, did the overall performance was improved after the upgrade? Did the lag when the RAM gets full improved? I'm still skeptical about upgrading my laptop.
for starters: change the OS to a custom one of linux based. the biggest issue its Windows 10 maxing out both CPU and RAM very often so by only changing the OS the PC improves greatly
Hello, the mvme m.2 128 GB will work for me Lenovo ideapad 110s, I await your response, thank you😊
Will the sample you posted work in this computer?
I have a problem: I don't see the new memory in the BIOS setup neither in "this PC" but I see it in the Decice Manager. What to do?
Hi. How do yo do?
HI!..Would you have any idea why I can't download win 10 to my flash drive? I choose create to Flash drive and then get a message that says there isn't enough room on C:Drive. It doesn't see my usb drive. I have tried 2 different kinds...Can you help?
Does the flash drive show up at all when you plug it in? Have you tried both ports?
@@IansTech thanks. I downloaded on another system. I was able to complete the upgrade. The video was great.
Can this upgrade to windows 11?
Is it okay if i didnt do the upgrade using the usb??
saludos amigo excelente titorial pero otro m.2 de mas capacidad le podria servir 250 o 500 m.2 ssd saludos
Can u upgrade the ram for this also n if yes wads the maximum capacity ? Thanks
Unfortunately not on this model
gi.is it same with 100s? and what is max ssd memory? is it support 500 gb ssd m2 2280 style?
i'm sorry to bother you but in my lenovo, as soon as I turn it on, the screen of my computer remains as in the 6:19 minute and does not go on... how can I solve it...?
i tried to use a samsung 970 Evo plus ssd but it wont show up in bios. it doesnt show up on windows either
bro tengo un alaptop de la misma y compre un M.2 de 256GB pero la bios no lo reconoce necesito ayuda que puedo hacer
How can i overclock this laptop..plzz make a video...and reply
any suggestions when its not showing but it is installed? thansk
what type of screw are you using?
Do I need to do the same thing you did in this video..
Drop link where I can get the ssd
Can you share the exact model of your m.2 ssd for that upgrade? I tried a 512gb ssd and it can't be detected by the laptop. I need it to work with expansion ssd since the built in 32gb is defective. It can be seen in the bios but is disappears during windows 10 clean installation.
Hmm could be something needs to be changed in bios. Does windows setup see it at all?
There are 2 different types: SATA and NVMe. Make sure you have compatible with your laptop. (older usually needs the slower SATA)
What to do if my laptop doesn't recognize the m.2 drive that I installed?
I have the same problem. HDD Patriot P300 128GB SSD disk M.2 (PCIe 3.0 4x NVMe), TLC (Triple-Level Cell) was not detected. Why?
hi there, amy i know where you download all drivers for this laptop? is it directly from lenovo website?
Thanks buddy,
1 year and it's still useful
The only bad thing about this, is the sh%&y machine that it is... =(
I’m glad it helped to make it somewhat less crappy - I’m sad they still use these slower storage mediums in these laptops.
Hi. What can I do if my SSD is not recognize? I try two different
Does it show up in your BIOS?
Does it support nvme?
It is only showing eMMC disk : Ramaxel 32GB. Can you please help me to fix this..
Does it show up in your bios?
Ians Tech no
When I open my computer it is showing eMMC disk... I can’t use it
What brand and model of m.2 you use?
It was a Sandisk X400
Please answer my question: do you need to install all the apps on the new ssd or the apps will stay even if you change it
It’s a new drive so you’ll need to either install a clean copy of Windows or you can clone the existing hard drive to the new one
Hallo.
Hast du einen Link von der Seite wo ich die SSD Karte bekomme ?
My laptop doesn’t have a M.2 peice so i can put that in... is there anyway around it!?
Nope unfortunately. It’s a piece soldered to the motherboard. So unless you want to solder one on it’s a no go :(
This was very helpful. I'm a Mac user and this little laptop is my first foray into the Windows world. Will I have to buy Windows 10 to re-install the OS on the new SSD? Or is there a way to install it from the original HD?
Nope you don’t have to buy it again. You can either clone the drive or reinstall Windows again
@@IansTech Thanks. I'll look into 'cloning'. The laptop came with the OS installed, so I have nothing (like a Windows OS thumdrive) in order to reinstall it...
@@peterboynton6402 if you get a blank thumb drive you can download windows 10 to it
256GB SSD m.2 doesnt seem to work , I think the 128GB SSD the maximum
Does it not show up in your bios?
@@IansTech is 128GB the max? I installed a 256GB and it does not recognize it
Where you can find what's the maximum I already saw the 256 and is a good price in amazon
I confirmed that I followed all of your steps in the video (multiple times), but I keep running into the same problem, which is that after I select my USB from the novo boot menu a error comes up that says "we ran into a problem and we'll try to fix it", and it opens C drive again! If I try to run the Windows Media file is only gives me the option to install it on C: I cannot pick another drive. How can I override this? Is it something to do with Secure Boot? I installed my new SSD card in 2018 and I'm still trying to use this stupid laptop.
Does the SSD show in your bios at all?
Ians Tech Yes everything shows up just like in your video. I think my problem is that I only have one PC (the Lenovo - I normally work on a mac). The Microsoft media tool that I downloaded onto my USB drive still needs to be extracted to use it and When I double-click the tool the only option is to download it onto C: so I get the message that there is not enough storage on Lenovo C: I think I must find a friend with a PC who can extract the media tool for me and then I’ll try it again 🙄. I do really appreciate your video.
Mine shows in the bios but when I select to boot from usb its boots back to the old drive and it's won't show the new drive on thus pc, so hiw can I install the new windows to it if it's not showing but it shows in bios, can anyone help
Does it show up when you attempt to install windows?
@@IansTech Thanks for getting back to me Ian, I turned out to be the flash drive I have had something else on along with Windows creation tool, so had to wipe it to only the windows and nothing else all sorted now, I had 3 of these to do all done now, thank you for taking the time to reply very much appreciated.
Which Type Is ram In the laptop
Ram is soldered :(
Have you went into the battery UI and then moved the slider all the way to the right?
It’ll improve performance of the whole system
I added the ultimate performance mode in power options. I do it to every computer, makes it super snappy
Ians Tech
No I don’t mean the power options. There’s a slider in the battery UI when you click on it. Move the slider to “Best performance”.
Ah. I’ll check it. I have not seen that before I don’t think.
Ians Tech
It’s only on laptops.
NVMeのM.2SSDは使えますか?
NO
which kind of ssd is used in this 110s ?
tell me because i have to buy that
M.2 SSD 2280 I believe
thanks man
what is the listing on ebay for the ssd? thank you
Just look for m.2 SSD. I think it’s 2280 type
@@IansTech thank you
@@IansTech deffo look for 2280
Does it work for lenevo 100s 14ibr?
I believe so, I looked it up.. but best bet is to take the bottom panel off and check for a port for this drive.
@@IansTech I looked it up it has Nvme port, actually my laptop and your laptop which is used in video is same inside, should I go for m.2 sata
I can get my new PNC 256 SSD to show in the BIOS menu, but At 6:18 on the video the boot menu shows 3 items with the USB drive containing Windows as #3. When I get to this screen, I only have 1 as my new SSD and 2 as Windows Boot Menu and nothing else. There is no #3 USB shown in the menu to boot from. Any thoughts?
Just to add an update... I had created a boot media using an SSD card, that was inside of a USB adapter. For whatever reason, when I tried to used this to install windows from the USB device to the new SSD drive, it would not recognize it on the boot menu. I found an old USB media thumb drive and reformatted it and made another Windows Boot USB from with that. Then the Ideapad would recognize it. I was able to install Windows 10 on the new SSD.
cloning man the ssd that is the solution an then have the same OS
Every time I’ve tried to clone different sized drives I’ve had problems
Can you also upgrade the RAM on this Laptop?
Unfortunately no. It’s soldered on.
@@IansTech
Okay thanks. 👍
I installed the exact drive you have there and on the Bios Setup it shows up but with a light bulb next to it. Then when I went to the Boot Menu it's not on the list. Any ideas what it can be?
@@fabioospinajr5535 if you boot from a Windows usb does windows setup see it?
@@IansTech
That's what I'm missing a windows USB. Do I need that?
