There should be several velocity curves to choose from in the DrumKat, read the manual to see how to select them. You can't really adjust trigger parameters in the module since the DrumKat uses MIDI out. If the velocity curve doesn't help, you may need a new FSR for your DrumKat. Alternate Mode will still fix any DrumKat sent to them for a charge, but it's very reasonable. You can also just order the FSR directly from them and install it yourself.

Leave the midi connection as is between your drum module and the iPad, but remove the aux cable and use the iPads earphone jack as your output. Turn down the volume on the drum module - tho that shouldn't matter. With this config, your drum module sends midi to Grarageband, which in turn determines the sounds used for each drum pad, and that's what you should hear from the iPads earphone jack. Don't connect any output on your drum module, other than USB/midi to the iPad. (Note that volume on the drum module, has nothing to do with midi data sent to the iPad. I would like to use the garage band sound library on my IPad Air 3. Gen. with my Roland SPD-SX sampler.
To connect both devices via MIDI i got the iRig Midi 2 interface and it does deliver signals to my IPad, but Garage Band won’t react to anything that comes from my Ronald sampler, which should basically do the same like any other electronic drum kit/module right?
Hope anyone can help me out with this.
C.
If the SPD-SX has a 'vendor' or 'generic' option for the driver in the settings, set it to generic.
You might also want to try an app like MIDI Wrench to see what’s really happening MIDI wise. Is the SX sending on channel 10?
I’ve set everything up as you said in video but my pads don’t work. I can hear the sounds from Garage Band when I play the pads on the screen but not when I play my pads? I’ve got an Alesis Nitro module but nothing is working. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
Try a different usb cable
Justin I have a Drumkat 3.5 up grade to 3.8. My module is Roland td6. How can I ajust my Drumkat to have ghost sound when I play .Thank you. Like to some day meet you I live in ny also.
BTW, do you use Spotify? If you do, I would like to ask you to follow my band Demonic Sweaters there. We're very close to 200 followers and I would really appreciate it!
Thank you so much, I hope you're having a great day!
Justin
I have a Yamaha dtx 520k with a dtx 500 module! I cannot find anywhere in the manual how to set this up! I got everything setup the way you did! Can record! Can use songs on the iPad! But don’t know how to turn of the local control! Need help
Just turn your volume off on your dtx500? If you route audio from your iPad to the module’s aux in, and have your phones in the module, it should work.
@@KGingeri I will try that thank you
@@calebcasselman8631 it may not work if both are tied to the volume control. It does depend on how your kit works.
@@KGingeri I got it to work! But I still hear both kits at the same time! Garage band cuts in and out! Not sure where to start to turn of the dtx sounds! If I turn the volume down iPad and module are silent thank you for you help
@@calebcasselman8631 Ok great. So then try this instead.
All volume is now controlled on the iPad)
Thanks for this video - I hooked up my Alexis nitro mesh to GarageBand and am now trying to figure out how to play a song I’ve added on as a track and play my Alexis via a drum kit in garageband to record a cover while playing the cover song in garagband? I thought it would be simple - having the garageband drum kit and the song on the same track, but the drumkit isn’t working (no sound) while the music is playing? What am I missing? Help?
You will need two tracks, one for the music, and one for the drums. First import the music and then add another track with your drum kit on it. Have the drums track selected when you record.
@@demonicsweaters thanks.
I figured out that I couldn’t hear the live drums in GarageBand if not in record mode. I had the music and it’s played but no drum sounds we’re getting through until record. Is that the norm?
sorry so late but does it work if I lower the pitch of my second floor Tom? Thanks
Garageband only supports a standard 5 piece kit
Does this work on 1st or 2nd gen??
Is it possible to do this with a 5th generation iPad? Thank you
You should. As long as you can still get garageband on it.
Yup, and the right USB adapter/cable (camera adapters should work)
I tried recording my titan 50 internal sounds to GarageBand, on the iPad 9th gen and the audio was really quiet. I connected the drum module directly to the iPad over a USB cable into the apple camera adapter kit. Am I missing something, do I need a preamp? The midi works fine, but I am trying to record the direct sounds from the module, and that is what's coming out too quiet.
The usb audio output of the titan is a bit low in my opinion, but you can use this great little $8 device to record from the mono 1/4" output of the Titan into your ipad amzn.to/3QfvkK3.
hi there!great videos!
i tried doing this on my ipad pro 12.9 (the one that still has the lighting and 3.5mm audio). i followed every step you did for the 9th gen ipad, but i couldnt get mine to detect my kit as a midi controller. i can hear the GB sounds on my module if i tap it from my ipad. but once i hit the kit, nothing. is there any setting i might've missed or something?appreciate your reply!thanks!
Probably an IOS version firewall version. USB is considered network so there just to be a setting to allow the module as a USB device to talk to the iPad
Thiught id ask anyone...i was researching some deals for the simmons 1250 last friday and came across a kit midiplus ed9
Anybody ever seen this , anybody ever play one?
I have a few pieces of MIDI plus gear, actually I just got a new MIDI controller by them that I like. However, they're very hit or miss. I've got some hits with an equal amount of misses. I've never tried their drums.
@@demonicsweaters its not that much cheaper than the 1250, same size kit. The brain looks dated...thanks for feedback
Hi Justin, do you know if 6th generation iPads work? Lemme know : )
I’m not sure, but it should.
I was wondering if it matters what gig iPad 9th gen I purchase?
Well the more the better if you plan on recording lots of audio. Mine is 128 and it has worked pretty good for me.
I plan to use the Simmons app plus garage band to start I think. Also, what app is the right one for sd1250?
@@justinsnow3979 I think it's called the Simmons Advanced app or something like that. It tells you the models they work for in the app descriptions. I know it's not Simmons Drums 2, that one is for Titans.
👀👀HOW do I turn drum volume up and youtube video down? I'm trying to play a long
How are you even playing garageband and youtube at the same time?
@@demonicsweaters just turned on both apps and double tap the main iPad button, but now I have a audio interface and can now control both of the audio levels.
I have an alesis turbo kit, and the hi hat doesn't close, please help
You might be out of luck.
Hallo could you please make a video off how you connect Simon Phillips Groove agent to you
e drum kit Love from Mik Roy from Denmark
I hadn't heard of that one before. Looks like it's more for non-drummers to create drum tracks from midi clips?
Holy shit I can't believe this worked.
can u see if you can use Real Drum app by Kolb as a module too? for Android
I’ll look into it
@@demonicsweaters thanks really appreciate it
What happens if I have the iPad that has input C and does not have an auxiliary?
Dongle time :)
Can I use something like my Iphone 11?
Yes! You’ll just need an audio adapter that allows you to use the lightning port too, unless you have Bluetooth MIDI
Does garage band have a paid version that is better?
Apple Logic Pro is essentially the better version of GarageBand. There’s also Cubasis by Steinberg for iOS that has a lot of pro features. I need to make a video on that.
@AlternativeDrummer Sounds like a good way to go. I've had the Alesis DM8 forever now lol, so far its held up to what I do. I had a sweet pearl export pro series 7 piece set with Roto Tom's and a ton of cymbals. Unfortunately I lost that complete set to a pawn shop over my own stupidity. So I've gotten out that whole and things have been great for oh 12 years. Anyway, f8nding something thats similar I dynamics especially is hard. Obviously the Dm8 isn't close to a td30 or 50. That's really my biggest complaint, dynamics and cymbal sounds. Home is the dynamics on the Simmons you have?
Thanks for the tips man, much appreciated

LOL…I know damn well you didn’t say cassette tapes 😂😂😂😂
Tapes are pretty popular with several genres and scenes of musicians. They are stylish, cheap and have a cool sound. They have been popular as retro format for over a decade. Some musicians never stopped using them. I was releasing 7 inch records in the 90s. It’s a big old world.
