I did some research and read that these people were offered 3 to 4 times the market value of their homes. Not that what corporate America is doing is right. I use to drive up and down 83 many years ago. I moved and not part of my route and a few years ago I starting driving back around when I needed to and I was shocked about the amount of homes that were gone. This is sad that the whole area is now getting bought out just for warehouses.
Maybe they moved far away and it was cheaper to buy new stuff or they refused to move it in time and got escorted out. You can see that some of the houses were cleared. Possibly other explanations
I did grew up in a nice suburb near Gurnee,Illinois. The suburb is called Grandwood Park. I did lived in the nicest part of the suburb on Streamwood Drive. I only lived in 2 houses that were block away from each other. One was a ranch style home and the other was a quad level home. I would be upset something happened towards my childhood home that I was almost 5 years old to almost 23 years old. That was the quad level home. I had so many good memories of that house. We did adopted 2 stray cats in that house. When I was almost 12 years old that I had my own bedroom just before I started junior high school. My father converted a part of the basement as a game room/ den. We had a big pool table in the basement. My father had a corner desk for a computer to worked on or play games on. Even an old sleeper sofa as my 2 cats bed. It was a good house to grow up in. Even had good neighbors with children. We had one neighbors of a family that my family disliked from next door to us. The quad level was built in 1970.
That back yard is about a 1/8 of my back yard. Not to mention the front yard. Move to the south, you’d be surprised how well you can live versus the north. Plus your money goes ALOT farther when buying houses and land. Not to mention it’s absolutely beautiful here.
Now I remember several years back when they also made the people who lived in Bensonville move and sell their homes saying it was because Ohare was expanding its run ways. And ironically that project never came into fruition.
I know someone who was forced to sell their home because of that. They said they absolutely loved that house and were paid bottom dollar for it. A year or two later there was another family living in it.
With all the land available for development in the U.S. I do not understand why these data centers have to be placed on top of existing residential neighborhoods? Also, I know that some home owners were paid exorbitant amounts to leave but, people just abandoning their homes. Leaving personal things, family photos, clothes and toiletries behind is just beyond logic. It seems like, maybe they didn't leave on their own. * If you could find some of these people that up and left all of their personal belongings behind and interviewed them, that would be amazing. I grew up in Lombard, not far away from Wood Dale. I had a friend who lived on Wood Dale Rd. in a beautiful house in a wooded setting. Her dad was on the Village Board at one time. Hope it's still there. But maybe the area has been plowed under by now.
The guy at 35 Washington gave me work when I was between jobs and unemployed. This makes me so sickened and sad to see what has happened to him and all who lived in this neighborhood.

This really Hurts as a Native of the region who always was friends with all these Wood Dale and Bensenville kids. We all went to the Elk Grove VFW every weekend for live music shows of local and touring bands. Sadly as well (as you’ve covered) Elk Grove has Shrunk drastically in the recent years so Industrialization can expand. *There will be Nothing for the Children of Tomorrow Here in Illinois if We Do Not Dissolve these Corporations and Fix Our Constitution so they cannot claim themselves “People” and not a Protected group of Individuals with Names! THEY HAVE NOT EARNED TO TAKE OUR NATION FROM UNDER OUR FEET!*

I grew up in Lombard, not far away from Wood Dale. I had a friend who lived on Wood Dale Rd. in a beautiful house in a wooded setting. Her dad was on the Village Board at one time. Hope it's still there. But maybe the area has been plowed under by now.
The guy at 35 Washington gave me work when I was between jobs and unemployed. This makes me so sickened and sad to see what has happened to him and all who lived in this neighborhood.
This crapola should be completely illegal and ALL those committing this outrage should spend YEARS in prison! It's time to end this madness!
