Partnering with the St. Bernard's Project to Rebuild New Orleans

What does Toyota know about rebuilding homes in New Orleans? Just ask the St. Bernard Project (SBP), which has helped to rebuild more than 380 homes in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, while also creating jobs for returning war veterans. Even though SBP is the leading disaster-recovery model in New Orleans, it saw an opportunity to work with Toyota to help re-build homes even more efficiently. Each of those homes means one more family is no longer living in a trailer or other temporary housing.
Our Toyota Production System Support Center (TSSC) team is working with the St. Bernard Project to apply the principles of the Toyota Production System (TPS) to their processes. By working with Toyota, SBP hopes to improve its efficiency and productivity enough to accelerate rebuilding efforts by 20 percent -- while employing more veterans. And SBP also expects TSSC's input to help with efforts to expand its rebuilding model into other areas of the country hard-hit by natural disasters. Since 1992, TSSC has been sharing the techniques of TPS to help companies and organizations across the country increase efficiencies, streamline processes, and better serve their customers. TSSC recently launched a national program to support up to 20 community and non-profit organizations across the U.S. over the next year, using TPS to help improve their operations, extend their reach and increase their impact.
