When the transition is being made from silent films to `talkies', everyone has trouble adapting. Don and Lina have been cast repeatedly as a romantic couple, but when their latest film is remade into a musical, only Don has the voice for the new singing part. After a lot of practise with a diction coach, Lina still sounds terrible, and Kathy, a bright young aspiring actress, is hired to record over her voice.

It’s easy to forget how AMAZING some of these older movies were. The talent in them are crazy! Singing, dancing, acting….they were legends!
R.I.P to the late great actress Debbie Reynolds! She's Carrie Fisher's(Star Wars' Princess Leia) mother. She passed away the following day or a short time after Carrie in 2016. 💔
I've been looking forward to this one all week. This is such a good movie. 😊
And every time I hear the song "Singing in the Rain" I always think of Tom Holland's lip sync battle performance. LOL!
Have you seen "Wishful Drinking"? Carrie Fisher talks about her mom, dad, and Elizabeth Taylor among other things.
Tragically, it was indeed the following day Debbie Reynolds passed after her daughter Carrie died. It was definitely too much for her to bare at her age, I’ll bet.
@@twist58 It was such a shock too.
I read somewhere that Debbie's last words were "I want to be with my Carrie."🥺
@@rebecky5ever Can you blame her? I don't think any parent wants to outlive their kids. My great aunt has already had to bury 2 of her sons (she's 99, they were in their 60s/70s at the time).
This movie was actually BASED on the song "Singing in the Rain", which was written sometime in the 1920's and was used in various films before and after this. Now that you've seen a Gene Kelly movie, you need to watch a Fred Astaire movie -- I recommend Top Hat.
All of the songs were written by the MGM producer Arthur Freed when he was just a songwriter in the late 1920s (except for Make ‘Em Laugh, which he copied from Cole Porter). He told the screenwriters to create a script using his old songs, and they were the ones who thought of the transition to talkies. They were able to speak to old-time studio employees who were there in the 1920s and get anecdotes.
The year before Freed had produced Am American in Paris with Gene Kelly. That movie was built around all music written by George Gershwin. Freed thought he could do the same with all the music he wrote.
@@kathyastrom1315 actually Comden and Green wrote that and copied themselves from “Be a Clown” in “the Pirate” (Gene and Judy).
My favorite Fred Astaire movie is "The bandwagon"
@@theOlLineRebel No. Cole Porter wrote the music in The Pirate, including Be a Clown.
Watched this in film class. The origin of the “boom mic” is shown, directors got tired of trying to hide the microphone so they attached it to a broom handle and assigned someone to follow the actors with it.
Seeing Debbie Reynolds performance in Singing In The Rain always makes me smile. Really sad that she passed away a day after her daughter Carrie Fisher's death back in late December 2016. R.I.P. to those talented ladies.
Fun fact: Gene Kelly performed the iconic Singin' in the Rain number with a 104 degree fever.
In fact his temp was 38.6C (only Americans understand the Fahrenheit scale).
@@Vinterfrid 🤓
It’s due to that rain, I reckon. Must be so hard to pull of a scene like that with those conditions.
The scene starts with Debbie Reynolds kissing a very sick Gene Kelly on the mouth.
Think this story about his temp have been exaggerated. Temp of 104 probably would land you in the hospital back then.
This film is so accurate about what was going on at the time. Many stars were soon out of work at the dawn of sound, including Norma Talmadge, who the character of Lina Lamont was based on.
I had heard that a Russian actress was making silent movies in Hollywood.
I'm not sure she even spoke english. Talkies ended her career.
@@jsl151850b Alla Nazimova possibly?
@@002DrEvil Her IMDb says it was the Hayes code of 1933 that ended here career.
PS the woman Don is dancing with is Cyd Charisse - she’s amazing and you should watch some more of her films! Ironically in the context of this movie, her singing voice was always dubbed (but not her speaking voice; she spoke perfectly nicely, just wasn’t a singer).
I got to see Cyd's nightclub act with her husband Tony Martin at a dinner theater back in the early 70s. Our table was front and center, pushed up against the stage, and I literally had the best seat in the house. At the end Cyd and Tony stood at a microphone and sang down to me as I sat at their feet.
My dad fancied the hell out of Cyd and every Christmas when Singin in the Rain came on my mum wouldn't be too happy at my dad drooling at the TV.
And Cyd danced that number with Gene just weeks after having a baby, too.
I love Cyd but I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with the dream ballet convention in these movies.
@@katpiercemusic I've warmed up to it. And Cyd definitely looked hot in that green dress...
This earned a subscribe. I've been waiting for anyone to react to this. Donald O'Connor is the best! "Cosmo, call me a cab." "Okay. You're a cab."
🌧
The most iconic scene in the history of cinematography 🚏🕺🏻🌂
I strongly believe that the reason this film has endued over the years, apart from the baller music and matching choreography is how many genres it contain, musical, comedy, romance, biography and the cast interactions with each other are pure magic. PS, Jean Hagin EARNED her Oscar nomination for her turn as Lena Lamont.
One of the greatest musicals ever. And one of my favorite movies ever
Great choice !
For the record; Green screen is only used for digital cameras (after 2000). before that, they used a bleue screen ( and a sodium screen for Mary Poppins) or rear projection images.
YES! I couldn't believe the notification when I saw it! Thanks for watching it, it's a great movie!
And fun fact: Debbie Reynolds, the love interest, is Carrie Fischer's mother, Princess Leia : ).
Singin' in the Rain is a true classic. One of the best musicals ever. Hope you do more musicals, both classics and modern. Here are a few of my favorites. (my opinion. fell free to disagree)
An American In Paris (1951)
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954)
My Fair Lady (1964)
The Wizard of Oz (1939)
Modern musicals
Chicago (2002)
The Producers (2005)
Hairspray (2007)
I love “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” movie
An American In Paris is one of my favorites movies. I actually prefer it to Singin' in the Rain.
@Randy White Because there are people who, if you recommend a movie they hate, will attack you for it. I've seen it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but some are total jerks and don't respect those who love movies they hate. So I find it safer to say that.
I don’t consider Wizard of Oz a true musical. It’s more a fantasy story. Happens to have some music. As to great musicals…he should watch MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS. Great vignettes ofAmericana and hilarious, also!
let's not forget Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies as well, though they're mostly 30s.
22:46 This scene took an entire 15-hour day to shoot. By the time they were finished, Debbie Reynolds’ feet were bleeding, and she had to be carried to her dressing room. Gene Kelly chose the first take for the finished film.
You should totally react to more classic musicals! There are so many great ones.
This was one of those movies I first watched in school and instantly loved
I LOVE this movie! It's just so fun and silly and the music is fantastic. It makes me smile every time I watch it. I'm so glad you got a chance to see it. There was a lightness to many of these old films that is hard to find today where everything has to be 'realistic'. Another fantastic musical you may like is SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS.
Kathy didn’t go and watch all his pictures after they met (no video! there’s no way she could have), she was lying about not having seen them in the first place :)
In an irony, Debbie Reynolds was dubbed over in two of her numbers by Elizabeth “Betty” Noyes Hand in a film where she dubbed over the other actress.
Debbie Reynolds had NO dancing experience prior to this movie. Gene Kelly really did his job in making sure she could keep up with him. Also, The Jazz Singer is historically the first movie to use sound so yeah it was huge!
Gene Kelly is considered iconic. I do recommend the following classical musicals if you're interested in more- White Christmas, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Brigadoon (another Gene Kelly movie), and one of my fav musicals, Three Little Girls in Blue.
If you like Donald O’Connor’s energy, check out his tap dancing on roller skates routine or his ballon dance. You can find it on RUclips. He was just so fantastic.
Yeees I love Singin' in the Rain. It's a fabulous example of the 1950's musical movies that just hit with so much energy. I never notice the run time with how engaging the story is and how likable the actors are.
As a child born in the mid-60s, and growing up in the 70s, watching movies on TV meant watching older films. It was rare to watch a new film, and that only happened maybe once a week, at best. Also; no repeats, like you, have on Cable. So I grew up watching older films and loving them.
Gene Kelly was one of my favorites; along with Donald 0'Conner and Debbie Reynolds. This has always been a favorite of mine; because of the great songs, dancing, and comedy. And yes Carrie Fisher is the daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. If you didn't know; Debbie passed one day after Carrie passed away. It was a very sad time for Hollywood and their fans
Born in 1966, and same thing here!! I remember having babysitting jobs on New Years Eve and watching all-night marathons of Astaire-Rogers B&W musicals on the local PBS station. I grew up watching Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, and Ann Miller, amongst others. My first Classic Hollywood crush was Burt Lancaster in The Crimson Pirate-he was smokin’ hot, and so athletic! The fact that he could act too was just the cherry on top.
@@kathyastrom1315 Crimson Pirate! LOL my earliest impression of Burt Lancaster….my mother LOVED him and still does! Her mother (grandma) was staying with us one time and they saw that movie and she said to my mom, now I know why you loved him so much!
Glad you loved this classic film so much. If you want to see another great one in the same vein that's just as much fun, I highly recommend ON THE TOWN which also stars Gene Kelly along with Frank Sinatra, Vera Ellen, the incredible Ann Miller, and more. The story of three sailors on 24-hour leave in New York City, it's a perfect feelgood companion to SINGING IN THE RAIN.
This movie is so charming! Growing up I was a dancer and one year we did a tap number to Singing in the Rain for our recital, it was so fun!
You have no idea how exciting it is to have reactors that are watching classic films. Some are even doing silents, pre-codes, film noir, and musicals! Thank you for doing this iconic movie. For more musical fun, here is a "baker's dozen" to select from: 1. Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933) ~ Joan Blondell & Ginger Rogers, 2. Swing Time (1936) ~ Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers, 3. Cover Girl (1944) ~ Gene Kelly & Rita Hayworth, 4. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) ~ Marilyn Monroe & Jane Russell, 5. Oklahoma (1955) ~ Gordon McCrae & Shirley Jones, 6. West Side Story (1961) ~ Natalie Wood & Rita Moreno, 7. Gypsy (1962) ~ Rosalind Russell & Natalie Wood, 8. Hello Dolly (1969) ~ Barbra Streisand & Walter Matthau, 9. Fiddler on the Roof (1971) ~ Topol, 10. Cabaret (1972) ~ Liza Minelli & Joel Gray, 11. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) ~ Tim Curry, 12. Hair (1979) ~ Treat William & John Savage, 13. Chicago (2002) ~ Catherine Zeta-Jones & Renee Zellweger.
Some other greats:
The Band Wagon,
Xanadu,
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,
Brigadoon,
Summer Stock,
Tom Sawyer,
Slipper and the Rose,
The Happiest Millionaire,
Mary Poppins,
And Bedknobs and Broomsticks,
Fun Facts:
>The actress who plays Lina can actually sing in real life. She sung in a film prior to this.
>Ironically, this film is supposed to have Kathy lip singing for Lina. Yet, in some of these songs, Kathy's actress is lip synching and Betty Noyes ( a singer and actress) is the one doing the actual singing.
Try rapping your brain around all of that. lol
Even more fun fact: At the end of the movie when Kathy (Debbie Reynolds) is supposedly dubbing Lina (Jean Hagen) it's actually Jean Hagen dubbing Debbie Reynolds dubbing Jean Hagen. Got it?.
Donald O'Connor is the most underrated actor of this era. He is a good actor, singer, an amazing Dancer, and has perfect Comedic timing. I've seen pretty much ever movie he's been in that I could get my hands on. I really love him.
Funny detail. The actress who played Lina, was actually the one singing for Debbie Reynolds.
Easily my favorite musical! Debbie and Gene have such incredible chemistry.
Debbie Reynolds is infamous and so is her daughter "Princess Leia" aka Carrie Fisher of Star Wars.
Gene Kelly, Donald O'Conner are great. The score is amazing. Watch other films by these actors.
Don't you mean famous. Infamous means to known for some bad act
Or to be evil/ abominable
Singing in the Rain is probably the happiest musical I've seen so far and one I really enjoy. I saw it around 4-5 years ago, can't really remember when, but I distinctly remember being in a great mood for the rest of the day after watching it. I've always found older films and film history fascinating, so to have a plot based on the transition from silent film to talkies was great. Yeah, production of this movie is insane and I love the colors on the costumes and sets! All the actors are great! You had to be crazy talented in those days to be an all-around entertainer. Love it!
This was my Grandma’s favorite film. Always puts me in a good mood 🤗
If you are interested in classic musical films I would recommend Chicago, Fiddler on the Roof and West Side Story (1961).
I grew up with this musical. I'd be lying if I said that "Make 'Em Laugh", "Good Mornin'" and "Singin' In The Rain" weren't part of my childhood.
Tap dancing was huge back in the day
An art form that is so under appreciated these days
I love watching tap dancing
This is one of my favorite movies even though it's older than I am. I must have seen it dozens of times. If I'm ever feeling down or depressed, this is one of those movies that I can watch and it makes all of my troubles melt away. It's just a fun movie to watch and makes you wish you could've been there in those old Hollywood days.
Donald O'Conner, Gene Kelly's sidekick, is my favorite character in this movie and is underrated. He is just amazing and I don't know anyone today who could dance the way he does. Donald O'Conner was a big star w a good Hollywood career but, he should've been a super-super star.
I completely, completely agree Bryan! Every word of your comment, I could have written it myself. Well-said, sir.
O'Conner's problem was he wasn't the leading man type, but he made a great second banana to the male star.
This is often cited as the greatest musical of all time, and for good reason. I'm not a big musicals fan at all, but this is one of my absolute favorite movies of all time, of any genre, style or time period. To me, THIS is the very definition of a movie! The people get their money's worth when they buy a ticket for this one, right?! What more could anybody want? I suppose some will miss not having gore for an hour and a half, lol. But other than that? So happy you gave this movie a chance!!
This film is great I think I have seen it at least twenty times or more!
I watched this movie for the first time in a college film class 9-10 years ago. I was surprised to see how damn funny it was.
Fun fact: when they were filming this, the scene with Cosmo's "Make Them Laugh" was accidentally destroyed so they had to reshoot it. And Donald O'Connor, who played Cosmo, was a chain smoker yet he still did the whole scene twice.
Great choice. Recommend “West Side Story” 1961 version. It’s a huge hit and won 10 Oscars
I’ve always wanted to learn to tap. Cyd Charisse was a dancing LEGEND!!!
She was primarily a ballerina, but could do other styles. For really terrific female tap dancers watch Ann Miller and Eleanor Powell. It's really amazing how fast their feet move.
The actress playing Lena actually sings the song she's pretending to be dubbed for in this film. She was very talented herself, but got type casted after this film.
Excellent choice of movie, Tim. Do some more musical reactions this one's one of my faves :D
Singin’ in the Rain is an excellent film choice!
24:32 I’ve seen quite a few movies in my life, but this is still my favorite scene of all time
If you like old musicals like this, here are a few good ones: "An American in Paris" "Oklahoma", "Funny Face", and "High Society" are all fantastic.
If you're looking for more old musicals, I suggest The Court Jester, with Danny Kaye! Has music, but a decent amount of action and comedy as well!
Great choice. “The vessel with the pestle has the pellet with the poison but the flagon with the dragon has the brew that is true.”
@@coolhive2941
Actually...
The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle, the chalice with the palace has the brew that is true!
But they broke the chalice with the palace, and replaced it with a flagon with a dragon. Now,the flagon with the dragon has the pellet with the poison, the vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true!
Get it?
@@Sovreign071 lol. I knew I probably got it wrong but took a shot. Been a while since I saw it. Lol
@@coolhive2941 not your fault. Pretty sure there's a surgeon-general's warning against the number of times I've seen it!
"Get it?"
"Got it."
"Good."
Court Jester is the greatest comedy ever…but I don’t think much of it as a musical. It’s meant as a comedy and no one is a great singer, and most of them are short. But definitely the greatest comedy (ESP. Once they get in the castle), with SITR coming in close 2nd!
Musicals like this became very popular during this time period (30s-50s) because of the time period. You had the Great Depression and WWII era first and people need things to make them happy. In the 50s after the success of WWII, people were on a 'happy high' and there was so much positivity and production in the world at that time. Things did start to go downhill though in the 60s though, even though you did see the occasional musical from time to time.
I love Singing in the Rain! I have a tattoo that say "Make Em Laugh,'' and this movie inspires me go be a dancer!
If you're looking for other older movies to watch, the Thin Man series are great comedy-mystery movies from the 1930s - 1940s. Not super well known now, but very famous during their time.
Yes. At least watch the first of the series, The Thin Man.
Another fantastic movie from this era was "The Court Jester" (1955).
YESS j'avais trop envie que ce film soit choisi! I grew up on musicals and this one's always been my absolute favorite! Smiles all the way, right? Great choice, thanks so much!
You should see an American in Paris it has the same male lead, it’s also a musical and event a new love musical was made based on it
happy to finally have the chance to watch this. It is so great you react to this kind of beloved movies. Enjoyed it very much.
This is one of the few films that all 4 deserved to be nominated and win. Actress, actor, supporting actor and actress. Sadly only one was nominated.
Debbie Reynolds couldn't dance until she got this, her first film.
During the singing of “singing in the rain” the tweed outfit that Gene wore made him so sick because it stayed soaked. He had a 103 degree fever the whole time filming that scene.
Back then they were so incredibly talented and had to pretty much do everything. Gene Kelly is one of the greats at this but unfortunately he wasn’t a nice person in real life. However, Loving the reaction and I’m glad you’re showing movies like this.
He was a perfectionist
@@Lensmaster1 Oh yes!!! You can tell in his performances.
Thanks, Timothée! I absolutely *love* SINGIN' IN THE RAIN!!! ☔
Fun fact: Donald O'Connor (Cosmo) was a 4 pack a day smoker and had to be hospitalized for several days after filming the "make em laugh" bit.
I remember how completely blown away I was during the “Make ‘Em Laugh” sequence
YES!!!!! This is just one of my top 10 favorite movies Ever!!!! Im so happy you reacted to it!
Finally you go back to the old, good movies. Perfect.
You are my hero again, Tim.
This may be waaaaaaaaayy too retro for your channel but you could consider watching The Jazz Singer!

This is literally one of my favorite movies of all time. My favorite number is Good Morning. It's just always makes me smile. But, there are so many great, understated jokes, like Simpson's "I can't quite visualize it." after the 15 minute fully produced fantasy ballet sequence. Also, the comic timing throughout the movie is so spot-on. Thanks for the reaction!
It is a hysterical movie! Full of great memes, esp. with Lina!
Why can't it be taken seriously today, this is the most iconic dance number in musical movies.
Interesting to note. The rain itself in this 1952 flick couldn’t appear on camera clear enough, so the use of milk instead of water was more visible onscreen.
Greatest movie ever, in my book as it provides everything power-packed in short time. Definitely one of the funniest movies ever, too often ignored for that category!

this reminds me of Tom Holland dancing and lip syncing to Umbrella
Can't stop laughing the old classics movie it an enjoyable and fun odd kind away love it😆😆 keep it coming.
I literally promise you would absolutely love 1967's "Thoroughly Modern Millie" starring Julie Andrews, Mary Tyler Moore, Carol Channing, Beatrice Lillie, John Gavin, and James Fox, in a 1920's-era farce, that was originally rated "M" for "mature audiences", but is now shown on the "Disney" channel!!!👍👏😀😉😜
You will never hear singing in the rain the same after you watch a clockwork orange.
I envy all reactors being able to film their reactions to these movies. I wish I could remember my first time
Debbie Reynolds’ early work!
As a kid, I knew her mostly for family films like the Halloweentown movie series and 1973 Charlotte’s Web.
Jean Hagen played Lina Lamont. She sounds like a ditz in this movie, but she has a great voice. At the end, when Cathy is dubbing her voice, it's actually Jean Hagen using her regular voice to speak the lines.
this is the best reaction you ever done.
Thanks so much rachel
You need to watch, "American in Paris", and "On the Town".
You have to remember that this is a comic musical. And it’s a very unique one, even compared to most old movie musicals. Once you see more films made before the 60s you’ll see just how varied they were in style. I suggest checking out Sunset Blvd, Rebecca and Vertigo as starters.
Those are not musicals….just drama!
When Gene Kelly Filmed This Scene For "Singing In The Rain" Gene Kelly Was Incredibly Sick With 104 Fever With Walking Pneumonia And They Had To Carry Him Onto Set And Then Back Off Set After He Was Done And They Had To Film It Multiple Times!!!!! He Could Barely Stand Up Or Walk On His Own When He Did This But Somehow He Managed To Pull It Off!!!!! I Did A Big Project On Him In College (I Have Been A Tap Dancer Now For 34 Years) And This Is One Of My Absolute Very Favorite Tap Dance Movie Scenes Ever!!!!! I Love Love Love Love Love It And Gene Kelly As Well As Many Others Have Been My Tap Dance Idols & Heroes Since I Was A Little Girl And Now I Am 37 Years Old And Now I Can Definitely Relate To What He Was Dealing With And Going Through At This Time Because I Am A 21 YEAR, 4 MONTH & 16 DAY CHILDHOOD/TEEN/YOUNG ADULT CANCER SURVIVOR/THRIVER/CONQUEROR/WARRIOR!!!!!
This was my favourite film growing up, have seen more times than I can count and I love getting to watch others experience the magic and joy this film has continued to bring me over the years!!
Fun Fact: Cosmo's number "Make Em Laugh" was a last minute addition because Gene Kelley realized they needed a scene where Donald O'Connor could be allowed to cut loose. Also, bc he was a heavy smoker at the time, O'Connor was bedridden for a few days after the physically taxing shoot.
Another Fun Fact: Cyd Charisse, a life-long nonsmoker, had to learn how to smoke for her brief role as the mafia don's moll.
Yet another Fun Fact: Debbie Reynolds had to learn to dance specifically for this film, which is why she dances so little.
Sad Fact: Gene Kelley did not get along well with his co-stars due mainly to his perfectionist attitude. Although they all did eventually make peace, none of them worked with him ever again.
Finally, you missed the little moment during the "Fit As A Fiddle" number where Cosmo loses his violin bow and spends a minute playing it like a banjo whilst trying to retrieve the bow.
🤍 that you watched this. I myself watched it in full only recently, and as far as I'm concerned it's about as close as you can get to cinematic perfection.
One of the most quotable films ever! Also, I love that, in the original version of The Dueling Cavalier, it isn’t just Lina looking and sounding ridiculous, but Don gets his share of stupid lines and bad acting as well.
Yes! Forever yes! This may be my favorite musical movie
This was a joy to watch! Great idea - so glad you're looking into some classical musicals! There are some true greats you'd really enjoy. Calamity Jane, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Kiss Me Kate, The King and I, West Side Story, My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret and Paint Your Wagon are probably my most rewatched oldies. For more a touch more modern, also recommend Little Shop of Horrors, Grease (1 and 2), A Chorus Line, The Phantom of the Opera and Hairspray. All a lot of fun and really good movies in their own rights.
your channel is awesome and this vid is really amazing singing in the rain is a true inspiration of mine and thank you for posting this wonderful mgm movie keep posting more wonderful movies like this and I recommend you post next is back to the future trilogy two thumbs up awesome job Tim dude
Jean Hagen and Donald O'Connor absolutely steal the show here!
You should totally watch Oklahoma, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and On the Town! All of them are great older movies!
Absolutely love this film. And one of the all the time best reacts.
You should watch:
Casablanca
Vertigo (1958)
Spartacus (1960)
Anastasia (1956)
YES!!! My favorite musical! I've been waiting for a popular reactor to watch Singin' In The Rain! So thanks Timmy, that was awesome!! .It is such a fantastic film, i've seen it so many times and i love how people who haven't, often get surprised on how good it is when they see it for the first time. Also, Cosmo is my absoulte favorite! Donald O'Connor is so underrated! He can do everything and his dancing skills are AMAZING, i'm a big fan of his films. Cheers from Chile.
A true classic, Gene Kelly was indeed a powerhouse but I was always enjoyed Donald O'Connor's Cosmo in this film, he really steals the show - but we do have to credit that Kelly had a part in the choreography. Great music obviously as well
I told you Tim I’m always gonna comment your reactions😁😁😁
Yayyyyyyyyyyy I love singing in the rain i always sing that song every day
The reason the cop was browbeating him was the possible intoxication in public (Don, Kathy, and Cosmo probably imbibed a tad) and the dancing/singing being a public disturbance. But it is a great movie, it has aged very well.
