    Good tips! I always plan ahead, projecting where I'll stop and when. Come to think of it, I kinda did that when I drove on gas many years ago -but back then we had to use paper maps, no apps, no navigation screens. Hahahaha! 😂 You've never used your portable charger? Huh. I sure have, at RV parks, from dryer outlets, from welder outlets, from A/C outlets, at campgrounds. I never charge to more than 80% (unless at a motel charger overnight). I've found from experience that my own "tank" needs emptying sooner than a full range! What I've found at motels is that few of them with chargers are also pet friendly -and we need both!

    Good advice guys! We are headed out tomorrow to Vegas (from Oceanside) for the Computer Science Teacher Association conference. We'll head from Vegas up to Bend for a family reunion before heading home through California wine country, stocking up for the long, cold San Diego winter.
    Exciting news, we won't be taking my wife's XC40 Recharge this year. Yesterday I finally broke down and bough my own EV.
    Lured out of my cave by the 0% financing being floated by VM for the ID.4 S I ended up at a Chevy/Cadillac dealer to look at those options again. It was my first time seeing and driving the Equinox and it was the Goldilocks car for me. So excited to be prepping a brand new car ahead of my summer road trip adventure.

    It is a lot like planning a flight as a pilot. You have a reserve which will allow you to get to your destination, and then to your alternate if needed.
    Thanks for mentioning the item about Plug-and-Charge. I was going to ask about that when you were talking about memberships.

    Great video. I use ABRP with live data through a BLE dongle. It works great as it has a better estimate of range than the car navigation.
    The first charge stop for most of my road trips is lunch. It usually takes longer than the needed charge so I have left with over 80% SOC.
    I keep the Ford mobile EVSE in the frunk along with a 25 foot cold-rated 120V extension cord. I only use the extension code to power the battery supply when doing updates so far. I have done Level 1 charging at hotels with 120V outlets meant for block heaters. It is only a 10 to 15 percent SOC gain overnight, but it has extended the range to allow usage of a better DCFC. It is also great to recover HV battery drain from local driving with a multiple day hotel stay. I have added several wall outlets at hotels on Plugshare.
    I have both the NACS adapter and TeslaTap destination charger adapter and used both. One time I stopped at a restaurant and was surprised by a destination charger. The car charged while I had a meal.
    I start to be uncomfortable with SOCs below 10%. The minimum the car has reached is 5%, but that is when I was either charging at home or work. How I have ABRP setup seems to plan recharging at 20 to 30%.
    Some dealerships only have the charger inside the service area. I noticed a lot of dealership entries on Plugshare are years old with old or no usage entries. I did stay at a motel with a Ford dealership next door. I was able to charge overnight with no problem because the EVSEs were in front of the dealership with no gates.
    I use heated seats during the winter most of the time instead of using the heater.

    As usual, another great video guys ❤. We’re probably gonna be heading back up to New York from Florida in about two months. We have done this trip several times with my now traded in Tesla MYP. Now we have a Chevy Equinox EV FWD. I’m just hoping the time we are ready for this trip that the Tesla supercharger network is open to Chevy. We have a tendency of just driving to the 5% to 15% when possible and then just charging to 80% reset the navigation and proceeded to the next charger.

    One time I need it to extend the range so I can make it home without charging on the way so I drove behind a semi truck for like an hour and that gave the extra range i was looking for.

    The cut cables this can be where untethered AC chargers are an advantage which is what Europe and other parts of the world does so you only need to carry a Type-2 cable. Since getting my new Kona EV(2024) having had the original 28kWh Ioniq can do real road trips now and am thinking of a Cross Australia trip across what is known as the Nullarbor to Western Australia in a year or two.

    Another good video. Have already driven to Las Vegas from LA without an issue. Just completed an 800 mile road trip from LA to Mammoth Mountain and back. We had our A2Z NACS adapter, which I tested in LA but found to be not working in Mammoth, even though the Ford app stated it worked. It was very frustrating. (We were able to plug into one of the Tesla L2 chargers overnight to get a full charge.) One thing you may want to mention is that CalTrans has free public chargers in various locations.

    These are all excellent tips that I’ve used for road tripping since 2017. ABRP is an invaluable tool to either minimize your stops or arrive as quickly as possible. Try to check ahead on the status of every charger so you know if a backup location is needed.
    When getting a 100% charge at a hotel or resort overnight, plan for it to reach 100% close to your departure time. You don’t want the battery overheating at 100% sitting for hours.

    We drive that route at least twice a year. Always an over night in Winslow at La Posada that had two Tesla destination chargers. Found EA in Kingman to be iffy. I25 to Denver has not enough chargers but found EA in Wagon Mound and Pueblo worked…did not have our NACS then which would have helped anxiety. Las Vegas was our worst stop as most were either out of service or had long lines. In Santa Fe, Walmart’s EA has been good and several NM state sites have Charge Point level 2 chargers. Have a great trip!

    Hello, omg we just came from our first road trip in our Mach E and we caught pure hell with the 2 different locations of chargers that didn't work. I did a video on our experiences and oh boy when I tell you we have learned some lessons because we were stuck and didn't have enough electricity to go to the next charging station but thank God a lady who lives in this small town knew of a charging location even though it was a slow charger. Question, since you have a Tesla charger which we are still waiting on. Do you find that having a Tesla adapter gives you more access to chargers when taking a road trip?

    Can I ask if you have found a way of setting the destination battery percent?
    I’m having issues with Ford nav. I have found Mach e gets me to the destination but at like 3% battery and no chargers close.
    So you can’t rely on the car nav system.

    How many people have had to use road-side assistance because they flat ran out of charge? What happens if you have to make the call to Ford (or whoever) and say I need a tow to the nearest charger?

    • @MachE_VLOG
      @MachE_VLOG  Месяц назад

      We have never run out of charge. It's just like with a gas vehicle. You have to be responsible for being aware of how much energy you have. If you run out, you can get towed on a flat bed and in some places there are emergency charging services. - Liv

    I have a tesla universal home charger (NACS + J1772), and am getting a mach-e, which is CCS. I believe I can charge using either the tesla NACS-to-J1772 adapter, *or* I could use a NACS-to-CCS adapter. Any charge-time benefit to the latter?

    • @MachE_VLOG
      @MachE_VLOG  Месяц назад

      @@shoobidyboop8634 NACS to J1772 are only for Level 2 AC charging. NACS to CCS adapters are for DCFC. They are for different uses and can't be used for the other type of charging.
