First of all I would like to say thank you for putting in good hard work and fact-checking the decibel differences. Secondly I would have to say that in my opinion it would be smarter for those who have a JBL Xtreme to just hang on to it instead of upgrading. Although JBL provided a firmware update for the Xtreme 2, I agree with you that the sound should not have only been more hi-fi, but the volume level should have been more X-treme as well. But it is what it is. You don't have to apologize to anyone for any of these shortcomings. Hopefully JBL has learned their lesson. Ultimately it will reflect in their sales.
Honestly, the Xtreme 2, especially after the firmware update, is the first JBL speaker I actually consider. The Xtreme 1 is just loud - but not a good sounding speaker, the DSP tuning is actually quite bad and allows distortion to get louder. The Xtreme 2 on the other hand is more hifi-tuned already. Not boomy, clean deep bass, nice treble etc.

Jbl extreme is good circuit driver or bluetooth decoder, you can exchange the circuit board decoder from jbl extreme 1 going to extreme 2 and i think thats a better sound outpot because of little big driver and passive radiator.

Si note la diferencia, suena más fuerte mejora un poco.. Porque es decepcionante tener un speaker de gran tamaño y no tenga el sonido que esperamos de el. Te recomiendo instalar la actualización.

Like he said the Extreme is louder but you sacrifice clarity with that loudness you can’t get loud and cloudy at the same time so it seems that JBL tone down the loudness on the extreme 2 to get better clarity at 100% volume
It is part of their marketing. Think about this:. First releasing a product not with the optimum settings. Then after a while you release a firmware update that will improve soundquality. And kaboom...1 Cheap marketingboost availble for JBL. They can decide when to release it and it the product will have the "good product" tag (because quality indeed improved after the update and the product gets more attention with videos like this one, and there are a lot of videos like this).
If you understand sound engineering 2 DB is almost twice as loud.. 3Db is twice as loud. 2db is a huge improvement which you cannot hear through a device It would be a much bigger difference in person But I guarantee you the battery took a big hit for how long it would last at that volume.. Incorrect. At higher frequencies, 10dB will sound twice as loud. At lower subwoofer frequencies, 6dB will sound twice as loud. This firmware update is showing a 1.4dB difference, which isn't very much and might be hard to even hear under some conditions. The 1.4dB difference could also be attributed to some degree due to variance in the SPL meter as it was operating. Bottom line, not much of a difference with the firmware update.

There is now an update for jbl extreme 2. Firmware 2.0 but has not tried it yet. Jbl Says its minor bug fixes but doesn't tell in detail. Please try to look unto this
You have to keep in mind that in order to make it IPX7 it requires more protection and has a linear inside the speaker that will reduce the sound. I live in Florida where it rains all the time, our outdoor activities include the beach and the creeks, so it is important to have a speaker that complies with that. It’s something for something in my opinion, if you don’t take it around water get the xtreme, but if you are on a boat and just constantly around water then get the xtreme2!

I actually hear the X2 louder in my headphones for some reason. Could be due to the MID range that is better pronounced. Kudos JBL you made a great Speaker better!!
When I hit my extreme 2 powered button, it flashes blue 5 times and shuts itself off. Reset didn't work. If I plug it in, it won't start at all. It's fully charged. Any idea?
Been playing a variety of music test tracks on my extreme 2 and the sound quality is so amazing. Such a rich, clear and bold pleasing sound. I think this speaker is tops when it comes to blue tooth speaker sound.

I own a JBL Xtreme 2 and when I open the JBL Connect App (version 4.1.29) it recognizes the speaker normally but does not show me the badge saying there is a firmware update available. In the information session, it shows that my Xtreme 2 is still in version 1.2.0 of the firmware. How can I upgrade it to firmware 2.0? Is it because I'm in Brazil or is the update available around the world? I have not found anything at all about this problem on the internet ... Can anyone help me? I have already installed JBL Connect on iOS and Android on different networks and the problem remains the same. Thank you.

I got the Xtreme for around 179€ in camo and i use it with an eq (only when i use it at max) which lowers the highs at 8khz and 16khz and a little bass boost at around 60 hz for lower bass and i think it sounds good. I know the dockin is better but it hasnt such a nice battery and not a carrying strap. I think for 100€ more the xtreme 2 is not worth it. Or they should add an outdoor / indoor mode at the jbl app which change the freq. response to 75hz and make it louder than the xtreme 1.
Hey man. I have a very weird problem with my brand new JBL Xtreme 2. It just sounds when it's plugged in, like you said in your video, AC Mode. Unplugged the lights turn on and apparently it works normally, it can connects with other devices but without making any sound. You can see the song playing but no sound at all. I tried resetting but the problem continues. What do you recommend buddy? Thanks
The compression using the old firmware at high volume was really bad, now it sounds great actually and open. The Xtreme 1 sounds bad in comparison, boomy bass, distortions, recessed mids, lower treble boost etc...
@@p.aragon8398 it's unlikely that you will be able to pinpoint the difference, but it's frequency response is much lower than that of the extreme 1 which will give you much more low end clarity

@@p.aragon8398 yeah I mean you can only expect so much from a speaker of that wattage. I personally recommend getting the JBL partybox 310. I found one and it's 230 Watts as compared to 60 watts with the JBL Boombox and the base is absolutely insane
Its not the size but its the power. No matter how big a speaker is and you compare it to a smaller speaker with the same power, it will sound the same.

My charge 3 was stolen at work last week. I'm looking to get bigger and better so it's harder to walk off with. Is the xtreme 2 worth the 100.00 difference? I'm gonna use the strap brackets to cable it and lock it so that can't just grab it. Do you recommend a carry case for either? Thanks love the videos
I noticed it today when playing with them in Currys when choosing the xtreame 2 was alot quieter than the Sony xb43 but bass was better but French the xtreame e just come in a delivery while I was there only one on there data base so I booked in while in store they went n got it for me so have the loads as heck amazing xtreame 3! I love it but do miss my sony has to be said! So going to still pick up the Sony to! Although the xtreame 3 us amazing Sony won't ever beat it sound ways but it does need the strobe leds it's to bland for me!

I love stereo sound so I would probably go with the 2 Xtremes personally but I hate them because of the battery issues I've had with them, so I don't really recommend the Xtreme to people any more but I also know people whose Xtreme has no issues at all so....😕
DLX Willington i have just ordered two JBL extreme since they are about half the price now. And we have no confirmation on the longevity on the battery on the new extreme2 as its too new. Wonder IF battery issues are covered by warranty?
I believe if it's still in the first year of purchase it will be covered. But mine started having charging issues just after a one year mark 👿. But who knows, yours might be fine, there is a chance they looked into the issue and fixed the newly made xtremes🤞
I bought a JBL Extreme 2 this year but I found out that the speaker is more louder when I play on my Laptop compared to playing on the phone (Huawei P10 lite). Is it normal or is there a way of improving the sound on the phone?
The xtreme 2 and xtreme are the same loudness on average. He is measuring peak loudness, the peak is louder on the xtreme 1 probably because of the punchy bass. So they both sound around the same loudness but some notes the xtreme 1 are a bit louder

If you want bass, (hardcore, summer mixes etc) go for the xtreme1, perhaps 2 to make it stereo. If you want quality, whilst still having normall bass, go with the xtreme2
i have jbl xtreme 1 and i thin it sounds the best at about 90%...also mine dont distort at max volume and it doesnt scream that much(with techno,house music)
Is this update still recalled, like it was last week? Please could someone check whether the 1.6.0 update is available via Android as of today? I don't want to break the factory seal on the speaker box to try an update until I know it can be upgraded.
Not really sure how to help you. You will not find the update in the app store. Their speaker updates come through the JBL connect app. I'm also not aware that the update was recalled because my speaker is still running the same update, the only way to know if the update is still available (which I believe it is) is from some one who hasn't updated their speaker yet,

Make some content by connecting aux cable on extreme 2 to difference the sound
Can you please help me? What model is jbl xtreme 2 black color is it GG or PL?
I got the Xtreme for around 179€ in camo and i use it with an eq (only when i use it at max) which lowers the highs at 8khz and 16khz and a little bass boost at around 60 hz for lower bass and i think it sounds good. I know the dockin is better but it hasnt such a nice battery and not a carrying strap. I think for 100€ more the xtreme 2 is not worth it.
Or they should add an outdoor / indoor mode at the jbl app which change the freq. response to 75hz and make it louder than the xtreme 1.

Hey man. I have a very weird problem with my brand new JBL Xtreme 2. It just sounds when it's plugged in, like you said in your video, AC Mode. Unplugged the lights turn on and apparently it works normally, it can connects with other devices but without making any sound. You can see the song playing but no sound at all. I tried resetting but the problem continues. What do you recommend buddy?

The compression using the old firmware at high volume was really bad, now it sounds great actually and open.
The Xtreme 1 sounds bad in comparison, boomy bass, distortions, recessed mids, lower treble boost etc...

@@p.aragon8398 it's unlikely that you will be able to pinpoint the difference, but it's frequency response is much lower than that of the extreme 1 which will give you much more low end clarity
@@ArroyoAirsoft Your probably right. I wouldn’t know because I never heard the original extreme but I just got the extreme 2 and I am very disappointed in the bass.I thought maybe I was missing a different mode or a software version but it looks like I’m up to date.
@@p.aragon8398 yeah I mean you can only expect so much from a speaker of that wattage. I personally recommend getting the JBL partybox 310. I found one and it's 230 Watts as compared to 60 watts with the JBL Boombox and the base is absolutely insane

I picked up a Extreme 1 recently for a $100 used n it rocks. I am disappointed that it won't connect to my flip 4 n charge 4.
Isn't the reason the extreme is louder than the extreme 2 because the tweeters on the extreme are 35mm and on extreme 2 are 20mm??? Just a thought
Its not the size but its the power. No matter how big a speaker is and you compare it to a smaller speaker with the same power, it will sound the same.

I don't own the go +play so I can't say for sure. The only one I have is the studio 5, and the Xtreme 2 is louder than it. Not sure if that helps but it's all I got.

I was trying for low frequency mode and i mistakenly pressed (volume up and connect+) together and latter it turned off and its not turning on..any suggestions please drop down..
You locked your speaker. Connect it to the power supply and press the buttons again for 5-10 sec and should unlock...

My charge 3 was stolen at work last week. I'm looking to get bigger and better so it's harder to walk off with. Is the xtreme 2 worth the 100.00 difference? I'm gonna use the strap brackets to cable it and lock it so that can't just grab it. Do you recommend a carry case for either? Thanks love the videos

I noticed it today when playing with them in Currys when choosing the xtreame 2 was alot quieter than the Sony xb43 but bass was better but French the xtreame e just come in a delivery while I was there only one on there data base so I booked in while in store they went n got it for me so have the loads as heck amazing xtreame 3! I love it but do miss my sony has to be said! So going to still pick up the Sony to! Although the xtreame 3 us amazing Sony won't ever beat it sound ways but it does need the strobe leds it's to bland for me!

I love stereo sound so I would probably go with the 2 Xtremes personally but I hate them because of the battery issues I've had with them, so I don't really recommend the Xtreme to people any more but I also know people whose Xtreme has no issues at all so....😕
DLX Willington i have just ordered two JBL extreme since they are about half the price now. And we have no confirmation on the longevity on the battery on the new extreme2 as its too new. Wonder IF battery issues are covered by warranty?
I believe if it's still in the first year of purchase it will be covered. But mine started having charging issues just after a one year mark 👿. But who knows, yours might be fine, there is a chance they looked into the issue and fixed the newly made xtremes🤞

I bought a JBL Extreme 2 this year but I found out that the speaker is more louder when I play on my Laptop compared to playing on the phone (Huawei P10 lite). Is it normal or is there a way of improving the sound on the phone?

The xtreme 2 and xtreme are the same loudness on average. He is measuring peak loudness, the peak is louder on the xtreme 1 probably because of the punchy bass. So they both sound around the same loudness but some notes the xtreme 1 are a bit louder

If you want bass, (hardcore, summer mixes etc) go for the xtreme1, perhaps 2 to make it stereo.
If you want quality, whilst still having normall bass, go with the xtreme2

i have jbl xtreme 1 and i thin it sounds the best at about 90%...also mine dont distort at max volume and it doesnt scream that much(with techno,house music)
So according to JBL they've recalled the update and claim that there is no update available for the Xtreme 2
Is this update still recalled, like it was last week? Please could someone check whether the 1.6.0 update is available via Android as of today? I don't want to break the factory seal on the speaker box to try an update until I know it can be upgraded.
Not really sure how to help you. You will not find the update in the app store. Their speaker updates come through the JBL connect app. I'm also not aware that the update was recalled because my speaker is still running the same update, the only way to know if the update is still available (which I believe it is) is from some one who hasn't updated their speaker yet,
