Don't put your JBL speakers in "Low Frequency" or "Bass Reduction" as some call it! It's a mode JBL uses to diagnose problems with the drivers of your speakers when you send them in for repair. Using this mode for general usage will almost always end up with permanent damage to the speaker.

Just thought i’d add my 2 cents. the mode you mentioned, is called low frequency mode, and makes the speaker hit the low low notes instead of the standard bass notes in songs. if you play in that mode for too long, and go back into the original mode, the speakers will over time sound distorted and “crackled” if you will. it’s happened to both my jbl xtremes :D good video man!

That does not lower the bass, that activated the low pass frequency mode where it puts more emphasis on the lower frequencies (That can severely damage a speaker driver) I have a solid black XTREME and have also realized that it will make the high end just sound muddy and gross... When I got my speaker, I thought it was a fake because it was set to low pass frequency mode. This meant that it had no bass, didn't get as loud overall, and had crappy, muddy highs (It sounded like a beats pill lol, don't get triggered) I got so mad until i researched and learned what happend, that is when I turned the low pass off and got a real taste of this beasts bass and volume, love it!
1:20 it really doesn't limit the bass it's a low frequency mode which goes to the lowest range like 1 hz. I tried it on my flip 4 and gets from 20000 hz to 0 hz, but middle range bass (about 100hz) sound lower so maybe that's why you'll need more volume and a low range song to really appreciate the change
No it’s just a power safeguard to prevent damage to the speaker. It doesn’t change the frequency range but the lower frequencies are more audible because any safeguards (it also safeguards distortion so it’s not just a rattle or buzz down the low end) and actually reduces bass quality because of its buzzy quality and you could literally blow the speaker.
PieniuATV I hear this argument very often. What it does it that it disables the DSP processing, which indeed gets rid of the low-cut, making it go lower (Not 5 Hz, that isn’t even close to hearable with the human ear, let alone that a 3” driver can produce it. It only moves at 5Hz, but doesn’t produce sound), but it reduces bass a lot, because the bass boost that the Xtreme is known for has been programmed into the DSP. Which is what gets disabled when turning on that mode. Clavinetjunkie made some frequency response measurements of this, and there is a great loss in the bass, just that it reaches slightly deeper. There we go, cleared that up for you.
@dhuhhh what happened is that he turned on low frequency mode or low bass mode as some call it and this is a feature JBL uses to check what is wrong to the speakers. drivers Don't turn it on or use over 60% volume. If you use this mode in general it will damage your speaker permanently.

When you do LFM (Low Frequency Mode is when you hold bluetooth and minus) the bass is quiet but when u turn it up! Ooo shit it gets out of control. Some times the speaker wven moves around.
I'm kinda a speaker nut. To be safe, I wouldn't use the "low frequency mode" to often, and DO NOT go above 60% volume. I have blown my fair share of speakers in my lifetime. I have never blown or cracked a speaker accidentally, without trying. From all my testing and fooling around, the bass actually cools the voice coil of certain drivers, but is extremely hard on the spider and cone. Depending on the design of the speaker (is it a full range, tweeter, mid range or woofer), some are designed for a very specific frequency range. For instance, if you input mid to high of a frequency through a subwoofer, you can damage the voice coil, as the subwoofer is not designed for those frequency's and heats up the voice coil very fast. This is why its essential to have what is known as a "crossover" or (high/low)pass filtration. Same goes for tweeters. Input to much low frequency through a tweeter, and its gone within seconds! Why? Because the tweeter can not physically react to low frequency, and so will over heat. Tweeters are designed to to produce high frequency that vibrate the driver millions of times a second, but only within a very specific range. Tweeters are cooled in a number of unique ways, but physically moving air is not one of them. Woofers move a lot of air, but its that movement that cools the voice coil. Now why is using "low frequency mode" dangerous? Simple fact, the unit was never designed to be used in this fashion. The drivers in the extreme 1/2/3 can handle way more amplification then what JBL offers, but its not the limitations of the drivers, its the amplifier/crossover. When you exceed the power limits of of any amplifier (distortion or clipping), the drivers will get double or triple the power (watts), as the input signal becomes unstable. This unstable signal will heat up the drivers voice coils via a soup of messy uncontrolled frequency, and will eventually either crack the driver (burnt voice coil) or completely blow it (toasted voice coil). It's always better to have to much amplified power (watts) than not enough! Distortion will kill speakers "faster" than having to much power. The cleaner the signal, the better. With that said, never exceed the amplified power rating (RMS) of any speaker.
I can't get any of these "tricks" to work on my extreme 2. Maybe some newer firmware stopped this stuff? Mine is only like 10 months old now from mid 2022.

-Worse sound quality (Bass is undefined, lower bass notes distort while mid bass is pretty muted; treble response is artifacty, and so on.)
-Extreme Battery Drain
-Possible damage to Tweeters when boosting treble in DSP off mode (one of the tweeters on my JBL Xtreme is broken, don't know whether it comes from using this method or not)
In conclusion, just don't use DSP off mode if you normally want to listen to music.
MY Personal Spin i have added something to my comment.
It is pretty important, so reading it is a good idea
is it possible to damage the bass areas while having them full powered?
Oh yes it is possible with any speaker. Depending on the music you can damage them.
@@mygiguser Thanks man! I discovered this yesterday and it's been playing on this setting since then, and i was wondering if there's any chance it could be affected
why it is al about BASS
You’re totally wrong. Pressing the Bluetooth and Volume Down buttons disables the DSP limiter which turns on Low Frequency Mode which makes it play more lower bass.
HuntieMC - Minecraft & more! Bullshit
Im sexy and i show it if you won't believe me then its fine but i'm telling the truth :)
HuntieMC - Minecraft & more! Okay yeah right. I use this mode if im in the garden in the evening so the neighbors won’t get too mad because of the bass the xtreme produces. So the bass will reduce
Im sexy and i show it yeah the mid bass will reduce and also the punch will reduce because it will start to play some low bass notes lol
HuntieMC - Minecraft & more! That sentence makes sense but when i let the equalizer play on a lower frequency the bass will get heavier and louder
Please help I puch the connect button and volume up and my JBL charge 3 is shutdown and it is not ON again.
Do you have any idea how to fix if jbl extreme shuts down everytime I turn the volume up more than half. Thank you.
Have you tried with the charger connected? Does it still do that? If not i would guess it's a weak battery.
mygiguser yes i tried it. Thank you. I need to replace the battery.

I've got a problem with my jbl xtreme speaker when its off turn on button is working but after that any of the buttons aren't working. Exept play/stop button which is working as turn off button giving kind of "boom" sound after pressing. Plz help i tried to discharge it completly and charge it again fully, even restet combination doesnt work...
Hi, thx for the useful vid!
I have a bettery fail on exactly the same item/model. After watching your video, I have restarted the battery. Now its working more stable/doesnt turn off constantly.
But the Leds have eventually stopped showing anything at all (lights are just off)
Any advice on this failure?
p.s. the failure has been since the moment I bought it, the leds weren’t working properly, but unfortunately I haven’t paid much attention to that by then.
Vadim Chuchkov maybe a loose wire?
mygiguser , thanks for the reply!
unfortunately not, that seems a software bug or smth...actually its now showing 4 out of 5 lights shining, but it keeps turning off constantly. Any chance to reboot the systme for instance?
Does this not work on the xtreme 2 or something? It’s not making a difference on mine
does one of the usbs have the ability to stream music while charging?
I really wish there was an aux / jack / line in of some sort...
edit: nvm I have found a guy who shows there is an aux in :D
is there any latency if I used this as my laptop speaker?
this speaker seems perfect other than the issues with latency I know occur with bluetooth and lack of a jack...
there is an aux in on the extreme, what are you on about?>
Hi I have just purchased a new JBL Xtreme -- After un-boxing it had an initial factory charge that lasted for about 3 hrs - I drained the battery completely till the red light was blinking and then switched off the unit and connected the charger - the first 4 lights got solid bright within the first 45 min of charge and the 5th light kept on blinking - is this normal -- its now about 2 hours and the 5th light is still blinking - should i leave it to charge for more time - Please advise...
Riel Fernandes yes, that’s normal. The fifth LED blinks only when the battery is 100% full.
this can be a problem with the battery this happens sometimes with the models that they dont fully charge the battery is broken then you can fix it at jbl or the store you bought it
Thanks for share a secrets of jbl extreme 2
Sometimes i dont have connect...Suddenly no music....Can somebody help me ?
Does the xtreme bass decrease at maximum volume like charge 4 does?
On mine the volume is louder one below max volume. If that's what you mean
@@matrihamiltonjr2230 hi.
Thankz for answer.
The volume is loud.volume is ok.
But the bass decrease when charge 4 is at volume maximum.
I have 2xcharge 4.
How is the bass with the xtreme at maximum volume?
@@carlosvarela5367 I got my extreme 2 around 3 days ago but so far it's about the same as my flip 4 inside at home, but I can tell outside or a bigger the extreme will carry the sound further than the flip
Why do we have crazy bass or zero bass, why no 2nd mode with 50% of bass?
That indeed is a good question!
Sorry to tell u but that doesn't limit the bass that makes it go into low frequency mode which is low bass notes at higher volumes
It's for lower hz songs where the bass is slightly hearable on regular mode
its not low bass mode
it just makes it so you can have lower frequencies
nice show
He's not even limiting the bass he's just turning on Low Frequency Model or LFM
My power button broken out...
Plz say if any alternative is there.
Yes
Is there any difference between the camo and the black?
no, just the looks
My jbl xtreme 2 speaker doesn't have startup sound☹️ help me to fix it.

Try to download jbl app and you can setup this there..
Can someone please tell me how to turn back on the power save mode on my jbl charge 3. I somehow inadvertently turned it off and idk how to get it back on.

did anybody know how to go back to the previews firmware? because after I updated the bass go crazy and if u reduce it it sounds not good...I can't get around this problem!
poly nominal there’s no way to downgrade. Everything is controlled by the JBL app.
I should update the xtreme to connect + ?
kiss csapat no, that doesn’t work.
JBL stated you can’t do that due to its hardware.
Good review.
Thanks ! I appreciate the effort you have shown owners of the JBL speaker.

@mygiguser when do you recommend recharge jbl xtreme ?! so my battery don't die after 5 months or something , should i drain the whole battery first , then charge it from 0 to 100% ?
Am1rExpert i looked it up, and it is 40% charge at 15°C or 59°F that means if you look at the power LEDs, 2 of 5 on should be the best bet on storing the Xtreme or Xtreme2
Hi
I pressed the vol.up and the jbl connect button for 10 sec and my xtreme doesnot working i pushing the buttons but not responding what can i do?
Csergõ Olivèr Bro you had to press the vol up and connect button for 3 sec to knew a filmware version, not for 10 sec...
Do you know how to remove the sounds of the flip 5 when power off/on and when connect?
Or at least how to lower them because i can"t turn it on or off without waking up all my house when i want to listen music at the lowest level possible.
I search how to do it on internet but there is nothing working.
I cant' find the jbl connect app on the play store, i don't know if it's because i'm in France.
This sound is really annoying.
One thing is sure, jbl engineers are not using their product in everyday life or they had seen quickly that this sound is more annoying than useful. :(
You can’t get rid of the startup sound. Just turn it on and shove it under your bed sheets that will mute most of it lol
@@luke4800 You can get rid of it.
unfortunately i didn't remember how i did it and didn't find where is the answer of Harman support which tell me how to do it.
As far as i remember it was pressing 2 button for 10 sec but i don't remember which one it was.
Or you have an other option which is to download JBL CONNECT on app store and update the Flip 5 with it, then you will have an option to remove the startup sound.
But at that moment my smartphone wasn't smart enough to use the app so i asked to the support and manage to turn off this sound.
I should have reply to my own question here to keep a track of how to do it. :/
One thing is sure is that it's not bluetooth + vol down (low bass mode) or the volume up + play/ pause (hard reset).
^^
Eine Frage....wie kann man auf die Xtreme neues Update laden??
Navy man mit der JBL app per Bluetooth verbinden
Is iT save to limited THE bass??
Could you make a video with jbl go secrets plz
Don't mind me, I'm just here for the comments.
Does the firmware check works on flip 4
PaXen yes and mine says 3.2.0
I have checked this too but i dont think that we will receive a update for our flip 4
Yes it works my speaker says 3.2.0
Mine says 3.2.0 too
Volume down/Bluetooth is low frequence mode or sompething
Why can't I get ANY of my Bluetooth devices to pair? I have deleted them, reset my phone, etc... And no matter what instructions I follow, the JBL Flip 3 is the most difficult to pair.
Theresa Myslinski one possible problem could be interference. Try to pair at a different location.
I think he just switched low frequency mode off so the bass was reduced
Am I right?
No
I think he turned it on and it got quieter because the low bass took over
