Hello, i just did this battery replacement and it works! I will give some more info. I replaced the Lipo for the LG INR18650-HG2L 3000mAh - 20A which costing around 50% less than the brown ones in the demo. And another very important issue i was dealing with, my battery pack was slightly to big for its chamber caused by wiring. Therefor the lower lid could not seal properly and AIR was leaking when playing music loud. So resonance distortion was the result. I almost gave up, thinking my speaker was blown. So keep in mind the casing must be sealed completely!!! I used EPDM kit at the base of the inlet cable assy battery pack. Succes everyone, succes Léon

Thanks to you. I understand how to use the bms on this device. Every one needs to not throw away their battery powered items but to repair them their self. "Gear show" shows how we all can make a difference.
I did the same with my xtreme except that I used Samsung Lithium batteries. I like the Panasonic ones though. This was a fun project for me at the time. Great work on yours too.

Dude, just replaced my old tired, empty batteries, Can't thank enough. Jus hope my batteries purchase was a good one. Anyways, if/when change is needed again, I'll be ready!
Great job. One thing I would like to ask why we should use 2 yellow cables to join the pcb (BM) to the battery. Could we simply join the two BM points on PCB and use a single cable to connect it to the battery?
Try answering some of these people's legitimate questions and concerns! Not just thanking people for stroking your ego. Or don't even make these videos if you can't explain yourself.
You haven't put back the rubber gasket. Not only this use for waterproof but also help to airtight the internal to produce more vaccum to help create more bass in low frequency. Thats a very useful one. The JBL portable series are marvelous engineering of speakers.
Great job, but be careful when screwing the driver, you wouldn't be the first who let the screwdriver slip and puncture the foam of the speaker (don't ask me how I know...) 😅
Thank you very much for such a great detailed instruction. I can disassemble the device but I cannot solder. I never had to deal with soldering. Is there a direct replacement of Li-Polymer battery?
Yes, here's a battery available on Amazon www.amazon.com/dp/B082V93V1J 5000mAh Battery Works with JBL Xtreme Extreme Portable Bluetooth Speaker 5000mAh Li-Polymer
For us that we do not own any equipment, how can we join the four 18650 cells at home? I mean, I can get a soldering iron, but that machine you use to connect the terminals I am guessing it is pretty expensive.
Love the video... I'm not sure the average Joe can do this repair. And even though the battery exchange is really the most technical part of this, I'm not sure a local electronics shop would b worth the money they would charge to do it. Obviously it's gonna be less expensive to change the battery vs buying a new speaker, I would just need some help doing the battery switch itself.
Although it's awesome that he replaces the cells themselves, new (pre-wired) battery packs are also freely available online! This means you only have to do the screws and clips, the new battery will look exactly the same as the old one upon removal and simply snaps into the socket.
@@Jwk2211 the point is: the factory battery is Lithium Polymer this pack he's building is Lithium Ion. Lithium Ion is a safer battery, and does better with charge discharge cycles than LiPo. I personally don't have the ability to build a Li Ion pack, so I bought another LiPo from Amazon. Would be nice if someone pre-made ion packs and sold online 😉
I'm a bit suprised, i did many conversions like this, but the 18650 cell pairs did not fit inside right away, without some dremeling. Also, if you planning on using the speaker for years to come, you should definetly put in a 2s balancer. The lack of it, in the original bms is what causes the lipo cells to die so soon.
@@gartheligon140 @Garth Eligon It is a little circuit, that is either a separate circuitboard that you can buy and connect parallel to the existing bms board, or it is a function sometimes built into the bit more expensive bms circuits. Its function is exactly what its name is suggesting: it equalizing the cell voltages in a battery pack when the pack being charged. The "2s" simply means how many cells it is design for, in this case 2s means 2cell. Without a balancer, lithium cells tend to drift from each other in voltage, and over time, when charging the pack, one cell gets overcharged(and the bms shuts the pack down to prevent an explosion, while the other cell is far from being fully charged). And when discharging the less charged cell will depleat quickly, and the bms will again shut the pack down suddenly, to try to prevent the depleated cell from damage.
Nice upgrade. I hate that startup/shutdown sound. It's silly and annoying. You can turn it off by using the JBL app. I've done on mine - now it's quiet.
Good job! But I need some clarification. I've seen different schemes on the same issue, there minuses were connected to BM and B- respectively... Pluses were connected to B+ and another BM. Also only two minuses were connected in parallel (for each battery). In your example you have connected all minuses in parallel and then to BM (one BM left alone). Why so different? I bought another BSM, since I'm not sure that stock is still alive. But that new BSM has 4 contacts: B+, B-, BM1 and BM2. So I wonder how to connect it to batteries. Thanks
You can increase the capacity to 10000 using 21700 batteries (higher price) instead of 18650. Maybe a modification is needed but from the looks of the compartment, I think it can fit in nicely.
Awesome. But the soldering is still not good. In some places I see poor contact, the wire barely touches the plate and the solder does not spread. Try using a flux.
Did this 2 years ago... But never ever it will fit like you shown or the shown xtreme isn't sealed anymore. The passiv speakers loose a lot of power if this case isn't correct sealed. I had to remove a bit of cover both sites to get the seal close enough together with no little air gap. Other option would be to seal the hole and let the encloser with this gap.
Bro, I'm having a fake JBL charge 2+. I used it in my school dance practice for like 3 years. And suddenly one day it stopped working. When I pressed the power button, it was dead. But when I keep for charging, the speaker will not work but the light comes on. What should I do?
Hi, I'm thinking of doing the same. Is the battery indicator working fine? I have less knowledge about how the battery indicator works. Does it measure the new battery installed capacity, or still consider the old one which it was programmed for?
