5:00 for heat test, run a benchmark on the 4 cores, geekbench, extra tip you can lock down your pi os thru raspi-config, prevents logging wearing out the sd card.
terminal, sudo raspi-config, performance options, Overlay file system => Enable or disable a read-only filesystem.
Thanks for the great tip
I think you want your converter’s fin oriented vertically for best cooling efficiency
8:33 Couple of tips for you :
- On your terminal, you can use the up arrow key to summon previously entered commands.
- If you don't even want to bother with the arrow key, you can use the watch command followed by the actual command you want to monitor and it will automatically cast it every couple seconds for you.
For exemple : watch vcgencmd measure_temp
Thanks for the tips, I need more Linux practice
Seeing a list of the components and where to find them would be very useful! Thanks!

@@davethemmp Thanks!!! Great information!
Nice Video Dave!! I have similar heat results from My Pi 5, it seems to produce less heat than the 4 doing the same job. I bought a heat sink case (basically a big around the pi) with active cooler and it has never come on, I may have to hit it with a heat gun to make sure it is working!! With regard to the wire strippers and crimpers, my dad was an electrician and I inherited his ratchet crimpers and automatic strippers from the early 80's and once you have used them, you never go back!!
Thanks Jason, I think the Pi 5 maybe overkill for this job but I am happy to have extra power if I want to do other functions with it down the road, I am going to have similar issues you had with connections at the helm I like your terminal box idea, I will need to make custom cables for the HDMI and USB for the touchscreen, thanks for your videos I am learning every viewing 👍
Keep up the excellent work!
Thanks, will do!
Your dedication and hard work are paying off!
Can't wait to hear more about the testing!
Fantastic update on the Pi 5 navigation system!
This is so exciting to see!
Great job on the Pi 5 sailboat navigation system!
This is such an exciting development!
You have gone to a lot of trouble with the sealed enclosure there. Why do you consider this is necessary.? Corrosion on the Pi board or? I see many setups on boat without sealed enclosures for the Pi
They don’t last long in the salt air many good setups use sealed enclosures
@@davethemmp Ok, thanks for the heads up
Keep up the excellent work!
Thanks, will do!
