    in comparison to your i have a garmin 943x with radar, sonar, nmea etc. It's nice but maps are up to $250 (plus tax) It pull at least 50w when running. It's on a swing arm instead of hard mounting because I know it will fail eventually and then I'll have to fill the mounting hole(s).

    I also added a Pi 4 with Victron 150/45 and ordered the wires like you suggested but my PI is at the front of my RV while the Victron is in the rear basement with all my solar stuff. I am going to try and figure out if I can do a wireless usb hub/dongle or ? not sure what will work for a wireless connection. 8:33 Couple of tips for you : - On your terminal, you can use the up arrow key to summon previously entered commands. - If you don't even want to bother with the arrow key, you can use the watch command followed by the actual command you want to monitor and it will automatically cast it every couple seconds for you. For exemple : watch vcgencmd measure_temp

  • @furrane
    @furrane 2 месяца назад

    I like the concept of BBN and I know the more options out there the better, but I prefer openPlotter for a few reasons : - Firstly OpenPlotter is just software, meaning it will run on differents OS and I'm not tied to a, although quite active, ultimately kind of niche OS with a small dev team that might just stop being updated at any points. Instead, I run openPlotter on Debian, which is never ever going to die. - Secondly, and this is more of a personal choice, I very much want to keep my nav systems the most stable and secure. That mean I want it to run only my sensors and instruments, segregated from every other electronics. So no music, no mail, and definetly no internet. - Finally, I work in IT, and so I can tell you that the openPlotter team spent a huge amount of time documenting their software, which is both extremely rare and extremely valuable.

    I have 2 12 volt Lifepro4 100Ah batteries for my 24V trolling motor. I need to be able to check how much charge the batteries have left while I'm out on the water. I currently have 2 standard 12v gauges mounted in the front of my boat that I had for my lead acid batteries. I have read that using the voltage only does not accurantly indicate how much power the battery has left. I would like some guidance as I am new to the Lithium batteries world.

    • @davethemmp
      @davethemmp 4 месяца назад

      The absolute best way to tell Lipo 4 state of charge is off the batteries BMS all lipo 4 batteries have them built in, they don’t all have Bluetooth if your unsure if your batteries have them open the Bluetooth on your phone and try to scan for them close by the batteries sometimes they come up with weird names due to most BMS are made in China as well as all the Lipo 4 cells we get in North America, if they don’t you could change the BMS inside the batteries but this is sometimes a big job getting them open then you compromise the waterproof case, I bought the battery monitor to tell my solar charger not to charge below freezing Lipo batteries die if you charge them below 32 F, it does show me the voltage but no state of charge, I programmed them for Lipo 4. There are a number of battery monitors you’ll need one for Lipo you probably need 2 one for each battery, weird things happen when you put two Lipo batteries in series like yours, the weakest battery will drain faster and drop your voltage, Victron has a balancer you can put between the two batteries to keep them close together in voltage, Do you use a Lipo dedicated charger? You should use a 12V charger and charge the batteries singly not in series

    • @jamesgibbons6292
      @jamesgibbons6292 4 месяца назад

      @davethemmp The batteries came with their own chargers. They are onIy 5 amp but seemed to work. I now wish I had bought the batteries that had the Bluetooth software that you are referring to. They were more expensive but would have been worth it. Unfortunately, I know very little about the Lithium batteries so it's hard to pick the right stuff. Videos like yours and others are sometimes the only way we learn so thanks for posting. I think I'm going to be ok with the amount of power. I don't use the trolling motor a lot overall and rarely use it on full power. I think I found a way to figure out how much time I can get from the batteries using the amps that the trolling motor draws at full power. Looks like I would be able to run it full power for 2 hours straight with what I have. Obviously I would not run it full power for two hours. Spread that out to actual use and I think I will be fine. Thanks for replying. Your time doing the research and making the videos are very useful to people like me.
