Anyone that puts the Beatles in overrated are just trying to be different or just literally know nothing about them. How can you listen to Revolver, Rubber Soul, Sgt Pepper, White Album, MMT and Abbey Road and then say "yep, overrated"
It's literally wrong to say they're overrated when you look at their influence and all their achievements. They were a recording band for around 7 years and achieved more in that short time than others have in 30+ years. Absolutely absurd and just shows you know nothing.
I get music is subjective but based on where you have put other bands on this tier list then it makes no sense to put Beatles in overrated.

Nirvana: voice of a generation (they belong beside Eagles?) Beatles: (not as good as Nirvana?) This is delusional. My favorite band is RUSH (all day long) The Beatles were way better than Rush... The Beatles actually ARE the greatest band ever. This is objective truth. Rush is still my favorite band though. (not that Rush are even good enough to make this list... or Pink Floyd either)

One of a kind is Opeth and AIC. Helloween is absolutely influential. Those three are legendary as well as Death, absolutely influential.
    Kreator is absolutely good.
I love Motley Crue but they're just good, and Korn is just ok.
Cannibal is good and the Beatles are legendary as well as the Doors.
Motorhead is absolutely legendary and Janis Joplin is just good.
There should be a category Great for The Who and some other bands.
Ne is Genesis and it should be good

If you read something like Tune In: The Beatles All These Years by author Mark Lewisohn which starts with each member before they met one another and follows them to their rise to fame you will see just how influential the Beatles were. Not just in music but also on pop culture.
The concept of the band itself was fairly unique at the time. You had solo acts like Elvis, Chuck Berry, etc. One lead singer and the band backing them up may or may not be consistent. Many time Chuck Berry would roll into town for a concert by himself and a local band performed behind him. The other option in pop music was a band or group with a lead singer who got top billing... Buddy Holly and the Crickets or (in England) Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. The Beatles as a name was hard for many to comprehend by some in the music business. So hard for one concert promoter early on for example that before he sent them off on a tour of northern England and Scotland he re-named them "Long John and the Silver Beatles" believing John Lennon was the lead singer and altering the band name to riff on the name of the pirate, "Long John Silver". So their name in itself was a departure from the norm and became an innovation.
Next was the make up of the band. They all sang and took turns singing lead which was not common. There is one story of The Beatles playing a theatre and when they go there the stage only had one microphone center stage. Which was typical of most pop bands. Also, the bands in the day did not own or set up their own sound systems... those were set up by the theatre using their own PA system. The concept was so new that their manager, Brian Epstein, had to create an entirely new type of contract for the boys. Most band contracts were written for that single lead singer and separate provisions were made for the other musicians.
A big innovation for the day was The Beatles love of Motown artists. They were the first non black pop band in England to ever perform a song by not just a black group from America but a female black group on BBC Radio.
Up until 1960 the Beatles stage clothes consisted of blue jeans, cowboy boots and black T-shirts with black leather jackets over top. Then they traveled to Hamburg Germany for a nearly two month run at a couple of clubs in the red light district. It was during this stay that the met a woman named Astrid Kirchherr who convinced them to cut their hair in what became their signature "mop top". Then, on a side trip to Paris they fell in love with the European clothing styles and adopted the skinny leg pants, pointy shoes (Baba Boots) and collarless jackets which also became a signature look for The Beatles. On the main continent the combination of hair and clothing, while looking sharp, were nothing especially new. When they returned home to England however it was explosive. No other pop band looked like that. And after performing 48 consecutive shows each lasting 8 hours or more they were the most rehearsed and polished band in Britain. Their harmonies were tighter than anyone else, their energy and stamina on stage was greater than anyone else and their look screamed set them apart from everyone else.
Did you know that on the Spotify and Pandora top 100 list of songs there has not been a pop song containing a key change for years? Changes in key and especially changes in time signature were also unheard of in the early 1960's but the Beatles did it all the time. There are some John Lennon songs that contain multiple key changes and the man couldn't read music at the time.
And those are just some of the innovations made up to their first year in existence. They wouldn't even find greater fame and acceptance for another 12+ months when they were finally signed to a major record label and started releasing their first his songs in 1961/'62.
They made music videos before any TV stations were playing them.
They recorded what is basically the first rock concept album (Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band).
In 1964 when the Beatles toured America they were not happy about a show they played where the audience was all white so from then on they insisted that their audiences would be integrated or they wouldn't play.
They were the first pop/rock group to play stadium concerts.
Created their own self contained record label (Apple).
On many occasions they had multiple songs simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100... April 1964 alone saw 12 Beatles songs on that list with five of those songs in the #1, #2, #3. #4 and #5 position.
Their use of unusual studio techniques was revolutionary... backwards masking, double tracking, back masking, tuned feedback, tape loops, and more.
If you've ever enjoyed reading the lyrics printed on an album jacket you can thank the Beatles for being the first to do so (Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band).
And when they declared they would never tour live again everyone thought they were done for. Yet their albums after that decision in 1966 became some of their biggest sellers making them the first successful studio only rock band.
Believe it or not that's the short list. They are the most influential band in history and continue to influence pop/rock artists today... even if the new generation hasn't figured out to do a key change these days.

I guess that means I have to accept that sometimes you're not going to please me either lol... The Beatles are biggest selling worldwide music artist or group (as of last year) with over 500 million album sales worldwide. Which suggests a lot of people don't think they're overrated. You also need to consider the very different albums they made.

  • @charlesscottdoty1283
    @charlesscottdoty1283 3 месяца назад +2

Foolish ranking.. but still love you two. How many Beatles songs have you listened to? 6, 7 maybe. You can recognize the historic greatness of the Beach Boys, okay... but you cannot recognize the total domination and evolution of rock and roll music that the Beatles were responsible for. Interview the members of KISS and ask them if they deserve to displace the Beatles in your ranking. As I suggested in another comment. Take 45 minutes of your life and listen to the entire Abbey Road Album but do it in vinyl or tape, not digitally so the songs are not truncated with silence in between. Do the same with Sgt, Peppers. All of those true artists you have identified as legendary will tell you that you are crazy to consider the Beatles as over-rated. Individually they are legendary. As an ensemble you need a tier above legendary for them and perhaps a few other super groups.

Ha Ha Tee really needs to broaden his musical horizons, never heard of David Bowie,😂 Does Being legendary in one particular field really make you legendary or is Legendary where EVERYONE has heard of them. Is Legendary based on two peoples personal opinion or is it on "the world's" opinion? basically your tiers are a bit dumb ( with all due respect ) because overrated isn't a level it's an opinion on a level that they aren't as good as other people think, but if every music expert and critic thinks they're legendary and ground breaking and you don't they are still probably good, can anyone not think the beatles are good? but overrated comes below okay on your tiers that way Oasis who are a Beatles homage band can be higher than they band that they are trying to emulate
