  • It's been a journey, but I've had so much fun creating my first digital sewing pattern! I'm so excited to get more people into my designs and see what special things you all create with this pattern. The CANARY top has been a best-seller in my made-to-measure collection for almost two years now, so I know you'll love the style and the fit.
There are so many fun variations that you can do with this pattern: the collar, sleeves, and peplum all can be mixed and matched! In this video, I will only show how to do "View A", which has a band collar, peplum waist, and long straight sleeves. However, the sewing pattern includes fully illustrated instructions for the other variations, like the traditional collar, crop hemline, and butterfly sleeves!
PLUS you can make the proportions perfect for your height using my Height Adjustment Calculator here: www.charliedar...
My pattern testers suggested that this pattern be labeled as experienced beginner or intermediate.

I’ve never heard of a self-healing cutting mat that you can also iron on. What a bonus!!! I have such a small sewing space and I could absolutely use something like this. Please tell the brand/type of cutting mat this is!!!😊I just purchased the part and really forward to making this.

Oh man I wish I could say this was a self-healing cutting mat, but unfortunately it's not! It does however work perfectly for my setup, so maybe this will still be a useful info for you.. It's actually a padded cloth table covering with a ruler grid printed on it (the table and covering are Sullivans Home Hobby Table from Joanns, link below!), and then I use an electric rotary cutter that has a bottom guard so the blade only cuts through my fabric, not my padded matting below it. (Also linked below). It was a little bit of an investment but I have found this combo to be amazing for keeping the whole project on the one table!!

I love the look of this. Great design. Do you have any idea how it works over a larger bust? Without darts I'm afraid the front hemline will gape or hang visibly higher than the back, and I don't quite feel confident enough to figure out adding darts to patterns myself.

This is a great question! To be completly honest I am also very curious of the answer to this. I definitely see your thoughts! As more people make it, I hope to get some feedback from others with a large bust who have tried out the pattern and gather some of their photos and suggestions. This may or may not be useful for your decision, but I wear my long-sleeve shirt open as a jacket at least 50% of the time, and I feel more confident that way of styling it would look good on a larger bust!

I have always seen where people love linen for its softness.
    -----------------
However, that doesn't seem to always be the case. I bought a little blouse from J Peterman YEARS ago. The tag says 100% Linen, Made in China (probably means fabricated there). Since linen can shrink so much, I always wash it by hand in tepid water. Yet all these years later, it still stays crunchy. Should I use hot water (it must have shrunken enough by now)? Should I wash it in the machine? Should I add fabric softener? Am I doing something wrong?
    -----------------
If all linens are like this blouse, they are significantly over-rated. >_<

I love Ms Widdicombe's entrepreneurial spirit. All the best luck to her!
