    Abalone porridge (jeonbokjuk) is known as the “king of porridges” in Korea. Not only is it creamy, savory, delicious, hearty and satisfying, but because they live on the rocks on the bottom of the ocean, abalones are incredibly lean and have almost no fat. They are full of good minerals like iron and calcium and have a ton of vitamins, too. It’s hard to beat abalone porridge for taste, nutrition, and making you feel warm and satisfied.

    I'm making a triple size batch for my 86 year old mom who is recovering from Covid and my niece who is about to give birth and, of course, for me! We have two sources of abalone in California: wild abalone in the northern waters that you dive for and cultivated abalone that comes from neighboring Baja.

      i love ur recipes , i really want to try making kimichi jjigae and ddukbokkie so i bought red pepper paste but it turn out that the paste contain rice wine :( i am Muslim ,i cant consume alcohol so can plz tell me how can i replace or skip this pepper paste???? and if i skip it will the stew in ddukbokkie become thicker ????

    Think I'll have to make some of this and share with my grandpa. He LOVES abalone as it's found all over New Zealand. In fact almost everyone in my family enjoys eating it!

    live abalone is hard to find here and canned abalone is expensive, so i adapted this recipe to use dried oysters (traditional chinese ingredient). it makes a very savory porridge and is now popular in my household for when people are sick :-) thank you maangchi!

    These types of things always look so good but I'm (very very) allergic to shellfish & crustaceans...so I have to use my imagination & just appreciate the visuals. So thank you for making such a beautiful abalone video, Maangchi! I can't eat it but I can still enjoy. 😀
