  • Named by COOR Wellness patients in Grand Junction, Colorado the Best Hamstring Stretch Ever (otherwise known as the BHSE) helps low back pain, both acute and chronic, people with acute hamstring strains and tightness. People with sciatica swear by it as well because it'll floss the nerve safely without a problem.
    This is a "classic" that we use in the office for people that are active, and people needing to improve their overall flexibility.
    It's a good stretch to do before you get out of bed in the morning, especially for people for with sciatica or numbness and tingling in their legs.

    That's awesome. This really works because you're neurologically controlling the length of the stretch, not mechanically moving it past the length it should be going. Consistency with it produces the best results.

    Hi, I'm 69 yrs old and ,while otherwise active,have had very tight hamstrings and low back pain for decades.
    Over the years I've tried many different h'string stretches and have found your
    method to be not only the most effective but also the quickest and easiest to do.
    Thank you

    This works indeed, had about 65° right leg and 70° left, did 7 seconds for 5 sets, right skyrocket at 85° and left 80°, can't wait to check my front squats tonight.

    You have no idea how thankful I am. For a year I stretched wrong (bent back), then for at least a year irregularly, in part because the progress was extremely slow. I just did 5 cycles for each leg and the difference is there! Not a gymnast yet ofc, but it's more than I've accomplished in months!

    thank you so much for this video - really helped my tight hamstring which Ive suffered with for ages - first time ive woke up without backpain in months - especially like the reps at different positions to target different fibres which for me makes it better than a standard "sit on the floor one leg extended reach down leg" type of stretch which felt right buy nowhere near as effective

    I’ve had low back pain for a long time but recently it’s become chronic. I’ve seen various people for help and have been following a rehab program at my gym, under instruction for two months, with little benefits to my back. I’ve followed your instruction today and for the first time in an age I am sitting comfortably with no pain. This is either a miracle or you’ve found something very special. All I can say is thank you and I will be continuing with this exercise.

      Mr. Hardwood - thank you for your kind words. It's great to hear you're feeling better. The providers at COOR Wellness have had good mentors. There is not one sources we can credit for teaching us everything. Dr. Josh Sandell influenced our methodology more than anyone else and he's probably where this was learned. Please share this with your friends. You'll never know who may need it too.

    Outstanding. I've been troubled (as a runner) with Pes anserinus bursitis that apparently is due to over-tight hamstrings pulling too tightly where a number of muscles and tendons attach to the tibia. Your stretches are showing some immediate relief of the symptoms. I'm curious about your comment re magnesium supplementation. Can you explain how this contributes.
    Many thanks for an genuinely useful video.

    @Vatos75 good question. I think the neural mobilization is an important piece to this, and Active Release Techniques, but to say which is more important is difficult to say. Are you familiar with other soft-tissue treatments like Graston? I like those, but the thing I like about ART is that the patient moves the joint and improves the strength/neurologically controls the antagonistic muscle.

    wow thank you for this video. I have Scheuermann's disease which has already run it's path. I wore a back brace during my growth spurt which helped with the curve but every muscle in my legs are extremely tight. I find it difficult to stretch but i tried this and it actually worked even tho it didn't feel painful like the other stretches I have tried. Do you suggest any other stretches for my condition?

  • @Vatos75
    @Vatos75 12 лет назад +1

    Thanks for the video. Was the increase in hip flexion with knee ext more due to neural mobilization rather than pure hammy stretching?

  • @CoorWellness
    @CoorWellness  11 лет назад

    Good question. Different fibers are stretched when the hip & knee are positioned at different angles. Try it out and you'll feel what I'm talking about.

    Could you please do a video on stretching/strengthening muscles to do situps? I had a surgery for herniated disc few years back and would like to gain some flexibility back. I can only lift my back a few inches off the floor for situps. Your hamstring stretch is money, I can touch my toes now after 10 reps on each legs, wow!

  • @CoorWellness
    @CoorWellness  12 лет назад

    @elhnad - passive resistance is what prevented additional hip flexion. This is not an example of ART, but I am a certified ART practitioner. ART would likely accomplish a greater stretch because it'd apply mechanical tension on the hamstring with simultaneous contraction of the quadriceps. This stretch is great to do between ART sessions.

    May I suggest stretches that hit the area formed by a triangle with the top at the back of the skull, and the two base points on the back in line with the armpit? I work at a computer all day and whatever is done with the people who set desks etc up, I still have repeated stiffness in that area. Probably a postural deficiency on my part, but I need a way to sleep and relive the discomfort. Thanks

  • @toddwilliamsen
    @toddwilliamsen 8 лет назад +2

    Actually, we tried this with my partial ACL tear, and my hamstrings were too tight where I could not lock my knee. The "best stretch" for me was they taught me the doorway technique. This is you put your foot up against the door frame and hold it there for 30 seconds or so. I would do this 3x scooting my butt closer to the door frame. To add more stretch, I would take jump rope or something else and put it on the bottom of me foot and slightly pull my foot towards me during the same stretch. Again, 30 second hold or more and each time try scooting your butt closer to the door frame. Your mileage may vary, but after several weeks of doing this I can now have my leg close to 90 degrees. Still progress as I would like to be able to touch my toes as my goal.

    Over the past year or so I have gradually fallen out of shape. I am a 25y/o male, 6'7". My hamstring and calf muscles are really starting to bother me and affect the way I move. I really want to start cycling again and eventually get back into the gym, schedule permitting. Any other beginner techniques you can suggest to reduce the atrophy and help me ease these muscles back into shape?
