    The letting the car get some heat before going to high throttle is common to all cars, but as you said, rarely followed. The "cool down" from spirited driving is a turbo thing. It really should be stated on ALL modern cars as just about everything has a turbo these days, but yes, you want to let the oil cycle after it's cooled somewhat to prevent coking of the oil in the lines. My only addition to your advice on that is, if you were to say drive to a track day, yes, let it idle in the pits if possible to cool off, but if you're say ripping it on a curvy road in "Mexico", and then drive home in a normal manner, the drive home should be sufficient to do the 5 minute cool down process, and then just give it a good minute to relax before powering down.

    I don't understand the warming up procedure because sometimes it can take over 10 minutes just for 1 bar to appear if I'm idling. And it's wasting so much fuel too.
    Tbh I just wait 1 minute and then i SLOOOWLY drive til i see that 1 bar which happens very quickly if you drive the car slowly instead of idling (especially in winter, seeing than 1 bar on idle takes forever). I only start driving faster once I see 3 bars or more
    Anyway great video, thank you so much :D

    • @alfamods2.0T
      @alfamods2.0T  Год назад +2

      I think the cold start waiting until the idle comes down to normal is probably the most important thing. If you read the Giulia forums a lot of people experience CELs if they drive before the cold start stops. What your saying is perfectly fine driving slowly to let it warm up is fine. I basically let it cold start and once the idle is good I drive slowly untill 3 bars

    An engine wears the most when oil is cold. The slowest way to warm an engine is let it idle. Start engine, wait about 10 sec, drive. Drive easy, don't rev, definitly don't lug.
    Also, lots more blowby past piston rings while idling to warming up. Oil contamination. You definitely don't want to warm engine by idling.
    Once all coolant gauge bars up to temp, oil still not up to temp. So if you want to treat engine right, gotta wait a good 10-15 after coolant up to temp. Oil temps always lag coolant temp warm up.
    As for shut down, best thing to do is just make sure the last 5 min of driving are done sedately. That'll give it time to cool turbo.
    Incidentally, that is what you're doing during cool down, cooling turbo. It'll get so hot, it'll coke the oil, burn it. Early turbo bearing demise. Early engine demise too from ineffective oil circulating in the days after coking.

      I had a SAAB 9000 turbo with more than 340,000km with the original engine and turbo. All the HPs still there and people thought it was tuned but it wasn’t. As you say, always drive gently the last 5 minutes to let the turbo slowly cool down.

    Great info as always! I recently bought a 2018 Q4 Ti Sport with 55k miles on the clock. It has full history which was important to me. From a recent video I watched I think you are at around similar mileage to me, do you feel good about the long term life of the motor and drivetrain? Is the motor as strong as it was when it had fewer miles? Curious how long you plan to keep the car and I was also wondering the maintenance schedule of the transmission and differential. My Alfa dealer told me there’s no set fluid change schedule on those components as they are ‘lifetime’ ‘sealed’. I’m not so sure, as I see on the forums some people have already changed their fluids.

      @@megasuperlexa2 the car runs rich on cold start driving around like that is not great for the engine. The manual on page 130 of the 2020 Giulia says “AFTER STARTING - WARMING UP THE
      ENGINE
      Proceed as follows:
       Travel slowly, letting the engine run at a reduced RPM, without accelerating suddenly.
       It is recommended to wait until the digital engine coolant temperature indicator starts to rise for maximum performance.”
      I’m just trying to help. You really shouldn’t just start the car and instantly drive quick. I can see with my OBD2 tool the Air fuel ratio runs rich during cold start.

    • @alfamods2.0T
      @alfamods2.0T  Год назад

      Honestly I wouldn’t rip on it untill it warms up some. If your getting a CEL after cold start and driving may be your multiair unit eventually. The multiair unit is very sensitive to debris in the oil as well so it’s good to change it often and use the correct spec. Have you done spark plugs lately? Those are due at 36k

    My 2021 Giulia Veloce's manual says the same for heavy usage (dusty roads, short trips, etc), but does not mention to change the oil at 4000miles. Only says that the oil have to be checked, and that the cockpit will show the oil change requirement if the quality of the oil is not good enough. The dealer said that 10000miles change is fine and the cockpit would show to change if necessary earlier. Plus I also watched a video about MultiAir engines, they recommended to change at every 6250miles (10000km), but the model was not mentioned in the video, maybe it was related to Giulietta, I'm not sure.
