    I have 2017 Giulia, 65K miles. Never a problem to fix mechanically, had the start/stop issue a year ago but new battery fixed all that. Pretty much anything with strange new dash lights or warnings, replace the battery first. These cars have a lot of tech that uses the battery and when the battery gets a little older, non-critical features start shutting themselves off to save the battery for its most important job: starting the engine. That's it; like a Camry to me so far.

    • @alfamods2.0T
      @alfamods2.0T  Год назад +5

      Yeah I agree battery is the only thing I have replaced that was necessary. I’m almost at 50k now. I replaced the relays only because they are known to fail so I wanted to raise awareness on this it’s not just on the giulia those relays just suck in general for longevity. I’m tuned so my start stop doesn’t even show up anymore, but the no crank is the main issue that happens with the relays and that’s not a battery related issue. You can use software like MES to show the exact percentage of battery charge status when it hits below 70 defrosters things like that will cut off like you mentioned.

      I have 2017 with 52000 miles I have had all these issues. They are all simple fixes, but very frustrating if you don't know what is going on. Thanks so much for this really informative video. Alfa should send you a check! If you have an original battery just replace it. Came with Lead Acid, should have AGM which is widely available (got mine at NAPA).

      Basically all CANBUS cars can go haywire if the voltages aren't perfect. The signals on the shared digital communication bus require everything to be at a proper voltage level, if not you can get very strange faults between seemingly unrelated components. It was never an issue on older cars where components were wired directly to each other (as necessary) and 'communicated' with analog signals (e.g., on an older car, the brake pedal switch closed a circuit that turned on the brake lights, whereas on a modern car it sends a signal that brakes have been pressed and a control module decides to turn on the brake lights).

    • @andrewweltlich9065
      @andrewweltlich9065 Год назад +1

      @@thomasbaytarian3342 The ASD relay is underneath the right headlight. There are 3 rectangular shaped pods that make up the aux PDC. Each pod has 2 relays inside. The ASD relay is in the outer-most pod and is the relay closer to the engine. I work at a dealership so I replace it with the OEM relay, but any relay will work. FYI the starter relay is in the inner-most pod and is the inner-most relay. Those are also a common failure and will cause a no crank situation. Nothing will happen when you press the start button.

    2018 Stelvio - 85k miles. Got a few issues but I love the car. I had the battery tested and it showed it was good but something was putting a slight drain on it when th ecar was shut off. After a long period of time it takes a few seconds to actually start when pressing the button. If you are only out of the car for a few minutes it starts immediately. At low speeds it seems to shift at improper RPM's. Slowing down it sometimes downshifts into a low gear at too high RPM. Accelerating from a "quick" stop at a stop sign it will be at too high of a gear and take a second to bump down to a lower gear to properly accelerate. I always here the computer "learns" as you drive but mine isn't learning 🙂. Last thing is I periodically get a windshield wiper alert - FOW front wiper limited functionality. The wipers seem to be fine. these don't really seem to affect overall performance of the car although the shifting is a bit annoying. Anything you know of that may cause these things or should I trade it ASAP???

    Had no choice to take my 19 Stelvio to a mechanic nearby me since the Alfa dealers don’t do diagnosis prob on weekends. Had a yellow check engine, red oil indicator, the stop/ start indicator all on.
    Found out from the mechanic, there was Turbo contamination (oil mixture in the turbo) needs replacing and they can only purchase the OEM part. (Red oil light indicator reads the regular oil as well as the Turbo according to the Mechanic)
    My power train Warrantee just expired this past March. Had my oil change done at the dealer back in March and you would think that they woulda told me or warned me about this prob before it happened. Turbo contamination just doesn’t happen overnight or even a in couple of months you would think.

    • @alfamods2.0T
      @alfamods2.0T  Год назад +1

      This is a really unfortunate situation and I’m sorry that this happened to you. Oil contamination can cause the turbo to fail yes. Dirty oil or oil starvation can kill a turbo charger fast as they need oil to spin at the speeds they do they share the same supply as the rest of the car as you mention. I will leave you 2 links so you can maybe better understand your problem. Your turbo needs oil to operate. Now that the turbo needs replacement I would 100% let the dealership do it because if you let an independent do it and it has a specific code that cannot be cleared even after a new turbo has been installed dealers were sent info on this from Alfa saying after code P0244. See my links I will send 2. When you do get it fixed always always let your car cool down before turning off 2-3 min as this gives the turbo time to get lubricated with oil and cooled its in the owners manual not doing this can kill a turbo over time. Not saying that was your issue but just saying for future longevity of the new one.

      Also after getting a fresh turbo, I would go and install a oil catch can and change the filter when you change the oil.
      It'll catch any contamination and prevent it from reaching the turbo, extending the life of it.

    Thanks for this sharing this info. I'm going to try the battery disconnect etc. I'm now running into a similar issue. After a few minutes putting the giulia into Dynamic mode, I got the Stop Start issue AND the Service Engine light come up. And now it's stuck in Natural mode. I'm fine with that, the car drives fine otherwise, just want to make sure it's nothing serious.

    • @alfamods2.0T
      @alfamods2.0T  Год назад

      If your stuck in N mode then your in a limp mode and it’s for a reason. You need to find out why you are getting the check engine light by reading the codes that will tell you what’s wrong. Defiantly don’t keep driving on it not knowing what is wrong even autozone can read the codes for you.

Rear defroster not working: I ordered a new relay to see it that is the issue based on this video. Lights flickering: only happened a couple of times so far, but this is what I’m most worried about. The last issue is minor but annoying. When I’m listening to music on my phone via the usb, the sound starts crackling like I have a bad speaker. Sound is fine when not using USB. Thanks for this video, really good to know those relays are a trouble item.

      1.Rear defroster normally goes out when the battery IBS sensor detects it’s dying so it cuts non essential functions one being the rear defroster. 2. Lights flickering if talking about headlights normally the switch has to be replaced if your talking about in general interior then again check battery. Lastly the USB port sucks and mine is the same way I just left it, but I’m sure to fix it will need to be replaced.

Hasn’t come up. 74k miles on mine and it hasn’t failed me once! A couple times I’ve had to clear codes with a scan tool and it works great again. Once it was warning of low pressure on the HP oil circuit, and that was fixed with an oil change (is this gran turismo?! lol). I had always changed it within the 10k interval but as the car gets older it may need more frequent changes.

    I have a 2018 Giulia, 26000 miles. I have had an issue where the car won't start but every conceivable dummy light, headlamps/tail lamps, Iight up like a Christmas tree and there's nothing I can do to turn them off. An engineer friend even removed the positive wire from the battery but no luck... It must have a direct feed from the battery. The first time, the service garage replaced the alternator. Then it happened again last week with the new alternator. Please tell me what to do? I wanted to keep my Alfa for a long time, but as a widow traveling alone, I can't deal with this!

    • @alfamods2.0T

      I really hope you can keep this car as well. Seems like the first solution is to replace the factory battery with a H8 AGM 95ah 900ca battery if your in the US I recommend interstate as the brand, but any will work if it’s that spec. Do you have any accessories you have added like dash camera or anything that would drain the battery after you leave the car? If you are trying to do a rest disconnect the negative it has a quick disconnect, while this is useful for other issues if your battery is almost dead a new one is really the only option. I just bought my battery for 175. The OEM one is not a great battery varata EFB is what it has stock. Email me Alfamods512@gmail.com I can send you pictures of the battery options and quick negative disconnect.

    • @ScottiAngelWing
      @ScottiAngelWing 8 месяцев назад

      @@alfamods2.0T Actually, the battery registers at full capacity. It can't be the alternator because they told me they had to replace it (per onboard computer). My engineer friend concluded there was some other feed from the battery powering all the dummy lights, etc. In both cases, somehow a jumpstart was able to over-ride the starter. He also said he didn't hear a "click" when we tried to start the engine.
      I will say that all of this began when a young guy ran a red turn arrow and t-boned me slightly right at the lower right hinge of the driver's door. He swerved away, but not enough to miss impact. It is going to the dealer for body work next week, if I'm not too scared to get it there. (It's 2 + hours to the dealer.)

    • @alfamods2.0T
      @alfamods2.0T  8 месяцев назад

      @@ScottiAngelWing sounds like you have a harness or wiring issue with the lights on the dash coming on. I could help a lot more if I was able to see what codes your car is throwing via Multiecuscan. if your getting a no start no crank then the starter relay is also important to replace because those go bad in general and most of the time have no crank no start symptoms. If you do the drive don’t stop the car if it’s already having problems starting just drive straight there. Honestly owning this car without an extended warranty mopar maxcare only or factory warranty for anyone who doesn’t know how to work on the car or doesn’t want to download and use multiecuscan for self diagnosing I advise against it. This car is expensive out of warranty especially if the dealership is needed to fix small things. Your issue sounds larger so I hope they can fix it. Fuel pump can also be an issue if no start with a good battery. Always jump start with the posts in the front of the car or you risk damaging the IBS sensors in the trunk. Also just because the battery is checking out as good. Doesn’t mean it is unless you have access to the IBS system to see what the true capacity is you can’t rule that out because that is shown in a percentage anything below 76% IBS can cause problems. I just replaced my battery even though it’s testing at full capacity at an auto store, but was below 70% in the internal IBS register.
