Wise words from Captain Harry Flashman, as he lectures his old school on Victorian virtue. From 'Royal Flash', a 1975 adaptation starring Malcolm McDowell.
He also said Ollie Read would have been a good fit. My Flashy would have been more Oliver Reed than McDowell, far too slapstick. Flashman was a coward but you would never have spotted it.
@@FlashmansStudy Yeah, Ollie would have been a good choice. McDowells great but doesn't really fit the image of flashy and seeing Ollie playing a coward would be priceless. Come to think of it if they kept up with it, he'd have been perfect for Harrys dad.
Harry Paget Flashman never existed of course. When Frazier allegedly found the "Flashman papers" in a saleroom in Leicester people believed he was a real person and he was entered into America's "Who's who" as a real historical person. He was entirely fictional.
So is Michael Hordern supposed to be Arnold (who called Flashman a "blasphemous wretch" when kicking him out of Rugby*? Or is this a new headmaster. Seems to have forgiven Flashman anyway * for getting drunk, forsooth! Not for the numerous episodes of bullying
"They had me back a few years back, to give a speech, (on courage, of all things!) and there was no talk of expulsion then.."
"take a cold bath every day"
That one really got me
Never mind, "I tried to do my duty and i think thats good enough for him"
Now we know where Patton got his inspiration about speeches in front of flags
Other way round, movie-wise.
Three cheers for Harry Lord Flashman! Hip hip hurray!
Taken out of context this is actually stirring stuff from old Flash... Taken in context though it is hillarious 😂
McDowell is a fine actor, but Fraser said the only actor who could capture Flashman's good looks, charm, and "seediness" was Errol Flynn.

@@FlashmansStudy A young Michael Caine might have done well provided he mastered the Upper rp toff accent.
Flashy, love it!
I love Flashman.
this was exceptionally sincere caddishness
I hate bullies. Bullies are
No different to any other evil person .

Arnold actually dies quite early on. It's likely that this is a different Headmaster.
iridium248 that's right I think.
Funny because Michael Hordern played a master at Rugby in the film adaptation where Robert Newton was Thomas Arnold.
Always thought harry Corbett would have been a good flashy
Too bad he never heeds his own advice.
Ol' Flashy certainly coulda learned thing or two from Hillary's campaign. Not enough to be elected, mind you, but certainly a thing or two
