I am always, surprised, these video’s don’t have thousands of views, got to love youtube algorithms. Very informative & just truly educational & a soothing voice…. still blows my mind, how your mind, can retain all this knowledge, I think your either born a Doctor or not.
I'm so appreciative for this video, and look forward to the next depression video next Monday! I've suffered from MDD since childhood and this topic always brings me a lot of interest. You're awesome Dr., thank you!
Mixed-Anxiety-Depressive Disorder diagnosed in 2019 after hospitalization for trying to end my life (see if youtube crosses that out again). The anxiety itself had been very bad for years: I read on the internet the other day that this chronic anxiety does something to the brain which eventually causes the severe depressive episode.
You mentioned there’s no imaging for depression, physicians should be taking MRI’s of the brain and see if it shows signs of PTSD, most people that suffer from depression is due to some or several types of trauma in their lives
I have major depressive disorder, along side agoraphobia, generalise anxiety disorder and insomnia. I haven’t been able to work for 6 years, I am basically housebound. I see a GP, psychiatrist and psychologist. I’ve tried over 20 medications and ECT. All did not work. I am treatment resistant. I don’t know what to do 😢 I want my life back! My psychiatrist wants to do ketamine, but he doesn’t know how to go about having it done. I am in Australia.
Maybe you tried, but ... how about MBCT? Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy. Sounds like some spiritual bullsh*t but growing number of research shows that about 8 weeks of it enhence responce to traditional treatment and improves life quality even when depression/anxiety remaines. Some studies show it boosts neuroplasticity in the brain over time and as a long-term treatment might help growth of gray matter (, hypocampus and the sorts) in the brain. But... most importantly it seems to help regaining functionality in life even when the depression or anxiety stays the same. So you could do stuff. Maybe even learn to cope enough to get a part-time job? If you didn't try maybe worth a shot. It is usually cheaper than normal therapy because the sessions are short (20-30 min per 1-2 weeks). Just an idea
Been on Prozac since 1997. Probably saved my life. After about 4-6 of starting the pill (20mg) woke up one morning and and started painting house .. No joke..
Dr. Do what are your thoughts on testing sites like Doctors Data that checks the levels of neurotransmitters in the urine to see what you may be dealing with?
I think the numbers are much higher than reported, especially for men. Men are not allowed to talk about it and if we do……both men and women tend to respond with negativity and disgust. I have struggled with severe depression that began in childhood. It’s a combination of genetic predisposition and trauma. Healthy connection is the best medicine. Unfortunately, when you are poor, it’s not easy to find. There is still a stigma associated with men saying, “I’m not okay”.
This is straight up BS. They may not know the precise details of every aspect of everything, but they certainly know the pathways and receptors involved in almost every mental process you could name.
Smooth talker. As someone with ADHD idk how he does it and I am impressed.

He takes some adhd meds
