Okay... these drugs are bad and dangerous, but what's an alternative for a successful ADHD treatment? Yeah these meds aren't safe but do doctors realise how bad ADHD/ADD can be? Especially when you diagnosed in your late 20s or 30s looking back and seeing that your life failed, that all your friends and classmates moved on but you still at the square one, running out of excuses why your life suck. That you haven't achieved anything, non of your plans, dreams and passions - came to life, because you cannot concentrate on anything long enough. Do they actually realise what this kind of life feels like?? Some say: oh just do CBT, planning & discipline. That not always works because people with severe ADHD can't even complete the CBT training. Even when something is very important and your future is depending on it, you can't get your brain together to focus and there's nothing you can do. You go to an exam, understanding of an upcoming failure because you can't access the information that you've learned.
Should I mention a severity of depression that occurs to the adult age with such life style? Where all the parts of your life falls apart because your brain can't focus, you're forgetful, you can't concentrate, you make tones of stupid mistakes in your work, even when you have checklists and tripple-checked everything.
You live in a chaos of a million of facing thoughts, trapped with no escape.
Ritalin and Adderall are literally life saviors for a lot of us. We accept the side effects, just to feel normal for once. To achieve our dreams and make something meaningful out of our lives.

Totally. The whole lot and more, including my entire 30s gone to fighting ignorant psychiatrists that wanted to deny the fact I had had several thorough diagnoses back in my teenage years. And a health system that's anti- the diagnosis. Lisdexamfetamine many years ago would have led to a lot less hard work wasted, much less deep despair, whether or not I'd have still suffered endogenous depression anyway, I don't know but the frustration, loss of time, years, and much much else (career, friends, horses, childbearing years) does not improve the experience of depression. Still listening to this as I'm writing this and I want to scream at this cynical bastard, DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD MY LIFE IS WITHOUT DEXAMPHETAMINE!!!! Promotion of prejudice like this lead to my decision not to take meds til my 30s, and then to have to spend the rest of my thirties fighting arsehole psychiatrists that think I'm just drug seeking. FFS, amphetamines help me SLEEP! HOW can my brain possibly be 'normal' if they do that to me?! Hope your life is going well with the meds and keep speaking out about how much difference these meds make to true adhd, there are too many wasted lives for all this prejudicial shite.

It took years of observation and clinical psychological/psychiatric assessment as well as years of observational documents from school, parental observations etc to get a clear diagnosis and I am still skeptical of my own diagnosis. It definitely is different for the genuine cases and is largely impacted by the big five (personality traits etc) and other factors in terms of life outcome, symptom display and so on, but the evidence does seem quite clear. The diagnosis really seems to be a lose area now, and I try to avoid mentioning it, as even I am skeptical of it's validate despite a clear cut case. There's a great range of non-drug solutions for managing it, but when you have it, it's well worth getting professional help and if available family support. Thanks for the video/information!

Thanks a bunch dr./ I don't have ADD or ADHD, I was prescribed Adderall for getting out of a bipolar depressive episode. It made me feel the most exhausted, sleepy, lazy and depressed that prior to that time I hadn't experienced at all. The psychiatrist believed I got paradoxical effects and they would go away, but they didn't. No hypnotic med or sedative can make me extremely exhausted, sleepy and depressed the way that Adderall did.

@@AlexiHolford Oh, jeez. I didn't know it. I assume many others watchin' his videos don't know it either. Thanks for letting me know about his death. It's rather saddening. He was indeed a man of science. The side effects which I mentioned didn't go away or even get a little less intense. Ergo, my psychiatrist eventually changed it to Modafinil. He said its class of medication is different and it's a lot milder and works better for bipolar depression with a mood-stabilizer. For a while, I was on Modafinil and it gave me physical side effects as well. In all fairness, it had and still have unique mood-lifting effects(these days if I take it some days a week) and it didn't have any crash or comedown at least on me. It still doesn't. It either works or doesn't. But, still the physical side effects happen and at times it makes me even a lot more exhausted. Sometimes, it makes me feel a lot better and I feel more optimistic. That's why I need to take it only some days a week. Anyhow, I couldn't find any medication which was a lifesaver, life-changer or Godsend in my case. Just some positive or negative effects and at many times both. I really wonder when I come across a review on a medication and it totally changed a person's life. It's just unbelievable.

I have had a really strange reaction to dextroamphetamine. I was prescribed it to help me with narcolepsy. I have been diagnosed with central and obstructive sleep apnea. I take opiate pain killers daily and have done so for 5 years.
I have tried to use the cpap machines for years and not only did it not help but made the sleep apnea events worse. Always more than 30, sometimes over 45.
When I used dextro and used the cpap machine the sleep apnea events went to 1 per hour, never more than 3. I ran out of dextro and the events returned to 30-40. Immediately after taking 2 dextro at 6pm and going to sleep at 12, the morning after my events returned to between 1-2 events.
My sleep specialist hasn't seen this happen before. We are currently trying to understand it.
Would be very interested if anyone else has had this happen to them.

    • @Krankykracka
      @Krankykracka 2 года назад

Holy shit, same exact thing. Cpap made my chest and lungs hurt, caused hyperinflation, and I stopped all cpap use. I have been diagnosed with narcolepsy without cataplexy, but the doctor says he isn't 100% on that diagnosis, as there are some differing issues than the typical presentation. But he said regardless, we have to treat the daytime sleepiness.
I am also on opiates for a chronic back injury. Doctor was thinking the episodes were from the medication waking me up randomly, thinking maybe my body was not absorbing the medication completely due to my gastroparesis somehow. They are clueless. Everyone is just guessing. They even took me off the Adderall for 2 weeks, but still no answers

With Vyvanse you pretty much never "come down". That's why it lasts so long because your body's metabolising it for up to 24 hours I'm pretty sure. I've been taking dexedrine for less than a year and deal with comedowns quite a bit. Usually after 5 hours or so. Good to take breaks. Just took an 8 day rest from it. I do agree it can benefit someone’s life when taken appropriately. However, we have to consider the fact that this is a drug and drugs alter the chemistry of your brain. At some point when you get older you may feel like you want to live life free of any mind-altering substances, and it can be much more difficult to resume life normally when you have take a drug to function your entire life. It is trading a short term benefit for a long term negative, which is the case with most drugs. Just something to consider…

Amphetamine isn’t really recreational in my view, especially in the form of adderall with its left handed formulation added. It doesn’t really cause much euphoria and in abuse it really causes dysphoria. Methamphetamine is, on the other hand, very recreational because of the massive euphoria it can create by its speedy routes of administration.

I love drugs but I have never found adderall particularly addictive. Cocaine is a hell of a drug though 😂. Adderall definitely helps me focus and concentrate. I do not experience much anxiety normally, so much so that I am too accepting of fairly unacceptable conditions. This sounds like a good problem to have in theory, but in reality it makes me not do what I need to do. I’m almost always in a good mood so I just feel like I can do whatever and it will be okay. But sometimes it isn’t!
One thing I’ve noticed about adderall is that it is sort of an anxiety inducing drug. Obviously as it wears off you feel more anxiety but even when I first start feeling it’s effects I feel this weird new sensation that I need to be doing something.
Although about 1/5 times I take it I get sleepy. Very odd.

Idk nor do I understand why just because a doctor gives you idk let’s say 10mg 3x a day for moderate-severe add/adhd, doesn’t mean that you have to take 3 a day try breaking the tablet in half and wait at least 4 hours before reedosing if you’d even have to! I get prescribed 30 mg dextroamp-amphetamine once a day and I just started 2 days ago and I took half of a half the 1st day then today only a half and I’ve been fine since 1033am was when I took the half it’s proof that you might not need to use or take 3 tablets a day expecially if your prescribed instant release because it works almost instantly! For some could take up to 15 minutes to peak or feel the fullest effects! For me it seems to work in no more than 1 minute, and I’m just now feeling The what I think is a bout of fatigue and ready to crash but had to post a comment while watching this!
